    I admit that sometimes my wording is a bit odd. GT2000 could have just been a placeholder name and might not have actually have been planned to be called GT2000. When GT2000 was first shown at the Tokyo Game Show in 1999 it very clearly re-used the assets, physics and sounds from GT2, but not the game engine as GT2's engine wouldn't have been able to handle things that were planned for the full game back in 1999, such as running at 60fps, having more cars on track, smarter AI and convertibles with their roofs down. If there was to be a full GT2000 that looked like the demo then it would have been a lot different to what Gran Turismo 3 is now. Sony probably told Polyphony Digital not to use Gran Turismo 2 assets and that is why there are 180 cars and not around 700. That 700 is based off the 600 that were in GT2 plus the 12 cars per region that Kazunori Yamauchi planned.

    Tbh i prefer the fact that GT4 has more "Common Cars" than SuperCars
    i dont felt that Forza 7 had more cars than GT4 exactly beacuse GT4 had a BIG variety in the style of cars, specially from Kei Cars
    That is one of the biggest problems i see with Forza nowdays, they seems to focus more in Faster Super/Hyper Cars and the most of slower cars are random meme cars or cars that are there mostly for jokes and giggles
    I hope they fix that for Reboot but if GT7 have a good variety of cars like GT4, maybe i can finally go back to be in GT again (I droped Sport beacuse of the lack of tracks, specially the Original Tracks like Deep Florest and High Speed Ring)

    • @MontegoReviews
      @MontegoReviews  3 года назад +3

      Regarding GT7. I think it will have a really good variety of cars. GT Sport has a good variety of cars and every car that is in GT Sport should be in GT7 as GT Sport was released just so there was a Gran Turismo game on the PlayStation 4 and the developers now make the cars so they can be used in the future games. Polyphony Digital probably started getting the licenses to the cars to be in GT7 when the PlayStation 4 was very new and then asked those manufacture if they could use the cars in a cutdown GT game, so I think most of the cars from GT Sport will be in GT7. I think there might actually be over 1200 cars in the game as the only game to have less cars than it's processor was GT3 and the fans (including myself) weren't happy about it. That would also explain why it's taken 7-8 years to make GT7.

    GT4 would have been soo much better if Polyphony focused on it more instead of Tourist Trophy. Just imagine a finished online mode, apparently drag racing was planned to be properly implemented as well. I definitely think you made some great points on this review most notably the stupid idea of having 16 licences as opposed to the sensible number of 8 on GT3. With that being said it’s still my favourite game in the GT series

    No one wants to see ricers cars in gt ever,so screw the body kits and decals this is not Need for speed

    • @MontegoReviews
      @MontegoReviews  3 года назад +5

      I agree that no one wants to see ricers in Gran Turismo, but Gran Turismo has a different player base to games like Need For Speed. The people who have Need For Speed as their only racing game get most of their insight into car culture from things like Fast And Furious which is full of ricers, whilst people who play Gran Turismo like Motorsport and so they would recreate race cars. Forza Motorsport used to also be like that, but more and more non-car people have started playing that, to a point where I hate racing online as nobody knows how to create a good livery. Body kits and decals made their way into the series in the end with a few body kits being added into GT5 and a livery editor being introduced into GT Sport.

  • @WilliamMcCarthyIII
    @WilliamMcCarthyIII 3 года назад +2

    Nice video, but a few things to note:
    1. GT 2000 is simply Gran Turismo 3. It was rebranded because Polyphony couldn't reach the "2000" deadline, and the name of the game would've been outdated within a couple weeks of the release of the Playstation 2 (which was as late as November 30, 2000 for several regions, this is why sports games name their games a year early). Sony never told them to stop making GT 2000, because GT 2000 is just GT3. Also I'm not sure where the idea of more = better comes in for that game, because GT3 was so well received by having so little wrong with it. The limited number of cars meant a VERY memorable selection of cars. Few duplicates, if any, exist in that game. It's such a neatly packaged and finished product all around. The game sold so well via worth of mouth and the insane popularity that the first two games experienced.
    2. I feel like the license tests have been massively misunderstood. I used to HATE license tests in these games because they were "boring" when I was younger, but I feel that they hold a very important part of the experience. I realize now the amount of information they felt the need to include is very substantial to teaching the science of driving. The descriptions of each license test explains exactly what I mean. You're taught how to navigate chicanes, overtake faster cars, and the importance of cornering. They didn't make each license have 16 tests to "pad out" the game time. The game is already longer than almost any other game out there. They did it because there's just that much more that they felt was essential information for beginner drivers (most people playing this game for the first time) to learn before going out in the game and flying off a corner and giving up because they don't understand breaking and apexes yet. I do think that gold tests are way too difficult though.
    3. In my opinion, if you need NOS and stage 5 turbos to beat a race, you're doing it wrong. The game is really lame when your car is so ridiculously overpowered that you're almost guaranteed a win simply because you have the pockets to do so. GT Sport's ideology behind handling this is way different and in my opinion, way more interesting. Just a thought.
    4. Tourist Trophy is definitely just a spinoff. I don't necessarily think the game was ever planned to be released with GT4, and I REALLY don't think they were developing it all at the same time as GT4, as Tourist Trophy came out in 2006, where GT4 came out in 2004, and Tourist Trophy relies almost entirely on reused assets.
    5. Porsche wasn't included in the game because their video game rights were purchased by EA by contract to be included exclusively in EA titles, such as Need For Speed. I don't know why Lamborghini and Ferrari weren't in the game, but the Lamborghini Diablo was in GT3 in Japan, but Lamborghini was no longer interested in being involved with the game, so the car was removed from the US and PAL versions of the game.
    This is a great video regardless! I don't agree with a couple other points, but I wanted to clear the air here for people who could potentially be accidentally mislead by some of the statements in this video. I'm not really a GT expert by any means, these are just a couple things I picked up on. Keep up the great work!

    • @MontegoReviews

      Thanks.
      I said in my Gran Turismo 3 review "Some people say that it’s a good thing that they didn’t call Gran Turismo 3 Gran Turismo 2000 as that would have made the game out-dated in less than a year, but I disagree, because they are thinking of it like a sports game made by EA were they release one every year. Another thing is that people don’t typically think things are out of date if that product has a year in its name. Knowing that there are games after it makes people think that it is out of date, so I really don’t agree with that argument at all.", and I still stand by that statement.
      When Gran Turismo 3 was released it was the highest rated game in the series and that was based of it's physics and graphics which are amazing, especially for 2001, but looking back at it now and comparing it to the other games in the series, a lot of people have told me that the small car list is the one thing that let's the game down, and to an extent I agree, and I think the game should have been delayed just a little bit so they could add a few more cars which is what they did in Gran Turismo 4 whilst sorting out the optimization issues as GT4 only had 500 cars planned for it when 4 Prologue was released.
      I don't hate the license tests, but I think there are too many of them. Someone can learn how to play the game with the a lot less of them, and that is something that the developers took into consideration with the Gran Turismo 5.
      In a way I agree with you that installing NOS and a stage 5 turbo isn't the way to go about racing, but that is the only reason that I can think of as of why they added them into the game.
      The Tourist Trophy part of the video was just a theory and I did kind of start that it was a theory with "I think" and the beginning. looking back at it and thinking about the later games in the series, Tourist Trophy could have been used to test future mechanics of the Gran Turismo games such as the driver or rider in Tourist Trophy's case and the clothing aspect in GT5 and 6.
      I did mention Porsche and EA. I think when it came to Lamborghini in Gran Turismo, I think it was under the JGTC license and that is why it's only the the Japanese release of the game. That Lamborghini was also planned to be in Gran Turismo 2 along with the a few Ferrari JGTC cars. I recommend watching MattJ155's video called "Gran Turismo 2 - The Cut Cars We Never Saw" for more information.

      @@MontegoReviews I'm sorry! I just saw this comment. This is true about GT 2000, it did seem to be shown off initially as a "GT2 remastered" sort of game. That's just one race, and there are three of them like that in the game. You also have to take into consideration that Gran Turismo 4 is the most demanding game on the PlayStation 2's hardware, which I why I said " I don’t think that Gran Turismo 4 should have been released on the PlayStation 2 at all and instead should have been a launch title for the PlayStation 3 which I think Polyphony Digital were planning to do. That is something that I know people are going to really disagree with, but only because the PlayStation 3 was like £500 when it was released back in 2006 to 2007. The PlayStation 2 was at its limit with Gran Turismo 4 and Polyphony Digital had a lot of issues whilst developing the game because of that."

    I'm sure you know this already, but I just wanted to give a heads-up: Your video footage is stretched. GT4 defaults to a 4:3 (What most old CRT TVs and 2000's LCD monitors used) aspect ratio, but has a 16:9 Widescreen option in the game settings. I guess you didn't know about this, so the HUD, cars and rest of the assets are stretched from Standard to Widescreen for the whole video, and probably were for your whole playthrough.
    EDIT: Just saw your comments below, if you want to best video quality out of the PS2 without an expensive upscaler, you want these:
    www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H3F94ZN/
    www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JCDR32J/
    I use these myself when recording off of original hardware. Works fine with my Elgato 4K60 Mk.2 as well, but I'm not sure if it'll work with a PAL PS2.
