In the far future I want to do a more proper review of this game. My original mindset when making this particular video was to pretty much exclusively focus on the positives and cut out all of the negatives, therefore differentiating it from a "real" review, so it would probably be a good idea to make that "real" review soon. Unfortunately, GT4 is apparently a 300 hour game if you try to do absolutely everything, and I actually want to finish it before I review it. So it's at the bottom of my game backlog because I'm ordering my backlog by how long it takes to beat each game. I simply wanted to talk about why Gran Turismo 4 is one of the best games I've ever played, and Horizon 3 is in there because that's literally how things played out IRL - I went from actively playing Horizon 3 to actively playing Gran Turismo 4. And other than that, Horizon 3 is one of the many racing games that represents the unrestricted sandbox gameplay that I'm criticizing, which is why I allude to it in the first place. That does NOT mean one game is better than the other. In fact, you could substitute Forza Motorsport 7, Project CARS 2, or NFS Most Wanted 2012 in place of Horizon 3. Many people like a power fantasy, and as I've explained in the video, that was fun for me for something like 5 years. That's fine. I had planned to make this a long-running series where I very simply talk about why (insert game here) is one of my favorite games ever, and it would be necessary to make comparisons to other games to get my point across. Though I personally love FH3's "dump cash on the player" approach (I pretty much just make up my own progression) I agree wholeheartedly with pretty much everything else. GT4's career mode is unmatched, and I'll be disappointed if GT7's career mode doesn't borrow from it (because it certainly didn't feel like GT5 and GT6 did.) Hey, great video man :)
This game completely changed my life back when it came out in 2004. So many good memories of this as a kid. Leaving the PS running all night and getting home from school to finish 24h. Getting gold on the Mercedes at Nürburgring was a nightmare for me. Will remain one of the best racing games ever forever probably.
I absolutely love this game. One of my favourites. What I love about it is it doesn't give you too much. You have to start out with a normal car that you might actually see on the roads and you look forward to getting better cars, the game doesn't spoil you. Then when you finally get your GT-R V-Spec or your TOM'S Supra, you feel like you've earned it and can fully appreciate every single car in the game and how you worked to get them. The difficulty is excellent too. I find it just as difficult now as when I was a kid. You often have to settle for a lower place because of the limitations set on you, you're not expected to get gold every time, even at the beginning of your game unlike most games which expect you to breeze through the beginner levels then get more difficult toward the end. I adore the aesthetic of the game. The game feels like a piece of art. The little details like the oil changes and the tuning shop with parts you can buy to make different changes to your car instead of just a 'press here to make car fast' button really immerse you into the game. This isn't just an arcade game, these are your cars that you're racing and you want to work to make them the best they can be and it covers the side of racing that other games just don't. With GT4 you actually feel like a real racing driver starting out at the bottom and having to work your way up and then when you win a race, it's not routine, it's a proper achievement.

Hey man. This video just randomly came up on my homescreen and I wanted to say that the information and opinions are excellent and I subscribed. Keep up the great work!
gt4 is the only game I bought full price on launch. It was the coolest thing, so ahead of its time. like you, I recently started to play it on the pc and boy it's still amazing. despite the old graphics, its still a much better game than gt7.
GT4 was the 1st game I've played when I was 6 I didn't even had a phone at the time, So I didn't knew what the Internet was (Thank goodness I didn't). And after 10 years later I'm still enjoying every single second of it.
I remember myself, at 10 yo, driving the last test of S license in GT4, and the others licenses already with gold. That nurburgring test with the Mercedes was a hard challenge though, I don't remember if I even finished. I do remember winning the 24hr nurburgring endurance race with the Toyota one, that was amazing.
What I loved most about Gran Turismo 4 are the tracks, especially the city parcours. The original ones had variation to them as well. Or the events with specific cars, had some Toca 2 flair to it as well. Forza Horizon 1 somewhat touched that flair too, most other racers feel bland though. Sadly.
dude this video is really good, you're super underrated. Also yes, GT4 is amazing, for me what puts the cherry on top of the cake is the music. WHAT EVEN IS THAT MUSIC, SO GOOD UGH
Eh, when It comes to getting tons of cash, get a fast enough car, enter the easy Capri Rally. Win both races, get, then sell the prize car. Rinse and repeat. You can do the races over again, and earn the prize car over again. That's the best way to earn cash in GT4.
Forza Horizon 2 and 3 problem especially Forza Horizon 4 is the most apparent of the issue is that there's no beginning, middle, and end. It's just endless driving with a bunch of cool cars to drive. While great on paper and first impressions wise. What is there for the player in the long run? GT4 achieves the purposeful progression on the track or outside of it. Forza Horizon 5 (including Motorsport 8 or the reboot) better fix that staleness and purposeless problem or I'm just not buying a forza gane again.
I haven't played Horizon 3 and 4, only the first 2 games but from what I've heard and seen it seems clear. The progression system in those games seems to have fallen off after the 1st game. I loved the progression in the 1st Horizon on 360, you were always being taunted by the festival champion and the wristband gatekeepers. When you earned enough points through races, they would challenge you in their envy 1 to 1 for pink slips, it was great and really well done. Once it was gone in H2, I knew it would only get worst.
I actually like it when games with hundreds of cars throw a lot of money at you. It's a big reason why Gran Turismo 2 is my favorite racing game of all-time. It has nearly 600 cars, and because you get so much money and so many prize cars, you actually have a realistic shot at trying and upgrading every single one of them.
Ikr. It's difficult and when you win, you appreciate it, it's not just routine but at the same time you always feel like you're making progress even when you don't win. A race never feels like a waste of time.
Absolutely great video, GT4 was my childhood and I loved it. Don't put your hopes up too high of any mention of GT7 this E3 or the near future though considering Sport came out not even a year ago, but hey who knows
Great video, nicely said, i just because of the games progress, bought ps2, gran turismo 4 and logitech driving force pro, such a great masterpiece, hopefully it will help me with my take for granted with money
I'm playing it again after 10 years and I'm thrilled, it feels exactly the same as it did then and now in 1080p (wahts new to me) the graphics almost seem even better to me, its feels like an actual new game wit hthese graphics wooow. this is just the best game ever❤
weight reduction upgrades help me alot in races it increases the acceleration.you can put parts to increase the top speed but your not going nowhere when you are heavy as shit plus it expands tire life .
Forza Horizon 2 was the last game to encapsulate the "Music Festival" feel. Not to mention with New-gen why there isn't a main performance stage by now is BEYOND ME. Imagine a ULTRA Festival happening in that center area in FH5.
Agree on that about GT4 knowing it is a game and just letting you play, no cutscenes, no annoying npcs, no cringe dialog, forzarizons 5 could have learned a thing
This is the smartest racing game video I have seen in a while. It made me think that racing games today have their priorities wrong. This game rewards skill above anything else. If you are smart enough to know you can win expensive cars in license test you save valuable credits. This intrinsic motivation is lacking from a lot of racing games today and should be the number one reason we play racing games. Because we love driving and not because there is a bugatti to unlock at the end.
The game is almost 20 years old and its still amazing hahaha. I still play this game, there is nothing else like it and its exactly for the reasons you stated, it has everything all the new games don't know how to do because they have to cater to a broader audience. Being light on money makes your decisions be meaningful and you have to stick to your cars for a while so you actually get to learn your cars and their nuances. New games just don't do that. I think Project Cars 3 did something similar but they messed up and named it Project Cars so their fanebase review bombed it. They should of called it Touring Cars or Shift 3 since it was basically Shift 3. I played GT5 and 6 and they are nothing like GT4. The fact that GT4 is just an open menu and you can do what you want is what makes it amazing, so you learn your cars limits by actually racing and what needs to be upgraded. You can even build up older cars from classified menu. And they need an oil change right away. In newer games you can get hypercars in under an hour and the lower tier cars feel useless. Upgrading them feels useless too unless you just like doing builds, (i do and then hotlapping them) but if you are just trying to beat the game having access to hypercars too soon makes the other cars useless even if there are 500+ cars. Until there is something like GT4 that comes out I will continue to play this 20 year old game for years to come. Upscaled to 4k it still looks amazing as well. Great overview btw! ( oh and also turns out GT7 single player is always online so thats a huge no for me, no PS5 or GT7 all because of that :/)
I had gt4 when I was a kid and had an amazing time. It was just so realistic. Driving two different cars just made a huge difference because of the attention to detail. Im a automobile fan gt4 is probobly my top5 favorite games ever.
Gran Tourismo 7 is finally out and it is amazing! For me it brings back the feeling of Gran Tourismo 4 with the addition of amazing Graphics. A really great Video ! Thanks for pointing out what made Gran Tourismo so special!
The gameplay is amazing, but the game is shit. I don't want to support a company who implements micro transactions in a SINGLE PLAYER game. The one good thing about GT7 is that it made me interested in the series again so I'm emulating GT4 in 4k.
7:48 and then in GT6 the 24 hours of Le Mans was cut down to 24 minutes irl lol But I do see what you mean with this. Growing up, Gran Turismo was my Forza. I especially loved GT3 because it was much more forgiving with less restrictions and easier A.I. It was only as hard as you wanted to be. If you're good you can start the game with a rally car. Or if you really felt like it, even with an Esperante GTR1 and jump into an endurance event as your event. Make money and experiment. But GT4 is a great game. Glad that you enjoyed it.
there is one really easy way to get forza level money, go to the special conditions race, the very first race in the list, takes like 5 min, you get a 250k prize car every time you do the race, you can do the race for 30 min, thats $1,500,000 with that method i got 3m an hour.
Found this out of curiousity if GT4 was as good as 8-Year old me thought while growing up with it (i.e. watching my father play it cuz i was too stupid to play it). Turns out me from 10 years ago had a good taste. Great Video ^L^
GT4 and GT2 are personally the best iterations of the saga, improving over its predecessors. GT5 and GT6 got kinda stuck and focused on the graphics and online experience. As a Gran Turismo fan i'd like to see some elements from Horizon or Asseto Corsa in newer GT entries, not that PD makes GT a new Forza but that they keep GT fresh.
Excellent game. A classic with another ridiculously good soundtrack. Tot the contrary of one of your points, one could receive a race version rally car and sell it for 250K. Money was extremely easy to come by in this game.
I've been playing gt4 on my ps2 slim for a week or more to grind to unlock all cars and tracks (and to get gold medal in every races and tournaments ofc)
They seem alright now, it's just that they've moved their focus to multiplayer and from what I understand they've done a good job of it. Even the singleplayer portion of GT Sport isn't that horrible
Gran turismo has SOULS, i started playing racing games on mobile then console and pc, from asphalt to nfs but when i played gt4, boy i became a petrolhead and jazz/lounge music fan, the menu ui, soundtrack, the career progression is just amazing, i wanna play forza horizon on pc too but the pc port is shit, i crash 10 times opening 10 times, i am hype for gt7 because the ui looks like they are paying tribute to gt4
Gta4 will always be my favourite out of all the gta games I just got gta7 and I don't want to play it because I don't want to be disappointed like I was in gta5 and gta6 🥺😢
this is a VERY bold thing to say, but i've put so much thought into it i am very confident in doing so no other racing game has ever come even close to make me experience the same thing that gt4 did the day i bought one of the endgame cars! watching the game's demo replays with that incredibly fast mazda, checking it out in the dealership, deciding to put myself through endless license tests, figuring out a good way to make money and, above all, watching all of that come together to pile up an imense amout of money only to dump it all into one, singular 787b was a big task to do. But you bet it was fucking worth it. Cause blasting that rotary engine to pieces at 370km/h down the mulsanne at le mans, bouncing around that crappy highway as the rev limiter screeches, the wind sounds go crazy, the tires rip and tear and the goddamn windshield wiper wouldn't stop shaking was freaking amazing.
you don't win that mutch money but you win cars. lot of them and you can win the cars as many time as you want and sell them. but I agree on one thing : FREEDOM play the game as you want. later gen games are more play when we tell you to play and do what we tell you to do. I hated every GT after the 4 just for the daily connexion needed to win some money (they call it a bonus) GT sport made me sell my PS4 just 2-3 months after buying it. Since GT5 you have to play every day or it's just too long to buy new cars, upgrade them and finish the entire game. we can't swith Aspec Bspec during the race. you can't speed up Bspec last month I bought back a PS2 with GT4, put my old memory card in it and I was the happiest person in the world.
Gran Turismo 7 reminds me of 4 which is not a bad thing but now what I would like to see is Gran Turismo in VR mode that would be the ultimate game have a VR a steering wheel gear shift that would be the ultimate Gran Turismo ever as long as it kept the graphics the way they are it would be awesome
A lot of this is the difference between old and new games. Especially with content and rewards. You had to unlock everything in Gran Turismo, Forza in comparison after about 10 races you can get a Ferrari. Old games are like: there's a fuck tonne of content but you have to play the game to unlock it.

gt4 is the only game I bought full price on launch.
I finally beat GT4 100% for the first time last month. GT4 was my childhood. I’m currently 100%-ing the game again. Not getting old yet.
Don't know why, still coming back to this video from time to time. Good take on the Real Racedriver Simulator!
What I loved most about Gran Turismo 4 are the tracks, especially the city parcours. The original ones had variation to them as well. Or the events with specific cars, had some Toca 2 flair to it as well. Forza Horizon 1 somewhat touched that flair too, most other racers feel bland though. Sadly.
Finally a video that isn't biased to one game
I just played a bit of GT4 recently and after all these years its still a beast
dude this video is really good, you're super underrated. Also yes, GT4 is amazing, for me what puts the cherry on top of the cake is the music. WHAT EVEN IS THAT MUSIC, SO GOOD UGH
Oh wow, thank you :)
GT4 was absolutely the best racing game. No one can come close to it until today.
I actually like it when games with hundreds of cars throw a lot of money at you. It's a big reason why Gran Turismo 2 is my favorite racing game of all-time. It has nearly 600 cars, and because you get so much money and so many prize cars, you actually have a realistic shot at trying and upgrading every single one of them.
nice to see a video appreciating this game's amazing career mode
this difficulty is why i loved it
Ikr. It's difficult and when you win, you appreciate it, it's not just routine but at the same time you always feel like you're making progress even when you don't win. A race never feels like a waste of time.
Its satisfying when you finished those endurance race
I got really sucked up into this video despite never playing a GT game.
So great video.
I spent an unhealthy amount of hours on this game as a kid and i don't regret it 😂
You have to check out GT2. GT4 was an evolution, a refinement. GT2 was a revelation...
Absolutely great video, GT4 was my childhood and I loved it. Don't put your hopes up too high of any mention of GT7 this E3 or the near future though considering Sport came out not even a year ago, but hey who knows
Damn for some reason I thought it was released in 2016 or 2015, guess in theory they could at least announce GT7 Prologue though
@@Rodentbird gran turismo sport is prologue of gt 7
Great video, nicely said, i just because of the games progress, bought ps2, gran turismo 4 and logitech driving force pro, such a great masterpiece, hopefully it will help me with my take for granted with money
B Spec mode for endurance.
the driving missions always remind me when i broke m controller in half
I'm playing it again after 10 years and I'm thrilled, it feels exactly the same as it did then and now in 1080p (wahts new to me) the graphics almost seem even better to me, its feels like an actual new game wit hthese graphics wooow. this is just the best game ever❤
Activate Windows. Go to Settings to activate Windows.
You just put into words everything I love about this game
Loved this review
thanks!
Nice video man!
Thank you!
weight reduction upgrades help me alot in races it increases the acceleration.you can put parts to increase the top speed but your not going nowhere when you are heavy as shit plus it expands tire life .
Why are you have so little subs?
you have potentials, keep up the amazing work.
Forza Horizon 2 was the last game to encapsulate the "Music Festival" feel.
Not to mention with New-gen why there isn't a main performance stage by now is BEYOND ME. Imagine a ULTRA Festival happening in that center area in FH5.
Very nice video essay, please do more.
I plan on it, and I already have a couple up on the channel already.
Agree on that about GT4 knowing it is a game and just letting you play, no cutscenes, no annoying npcs, no cringe dialog, forzarizons 5 could have learned a thing
Even tho others don't, I like gt6 and I think it's still a masterpiece
That's my second favorite.
A very good game :)
( oh and also turns out GT7 single player is always online so thats a huge no for me, no PS5 or GT7 all because of that :/)
Everything you said was spot on👌🏼
I had gt4 when I was a kid and had an amazing time. It was just so realistic. Driving two different cars just made a huge difference because of the attention to detail. Im a automobile fan gt4 is probobly my top5 favorite games ever.
Doing the 24 hour endurance races in GT4 is absurd If you completed those, then I commend you..
The fact that you are comparing a 2004/5 game to a 2016 game proves it’s the best around
*playing it till this day.*
I love the atmosphere of GT4 far more than Forza but I wish the physics and engine sounds had aged a bit better
GT4 is a real driving simulator
Gran Tourismo 7 is finally out and it is amazing! For me it brings back the feeling of Gran Tourismo 4 with the addition of amazing Graphics.
A really great Video ! Thanks for pointing out what made Gran Tourismo so special!
That's only when you're able to play it, though.
@@thefunkdroid2777 True i also don't like the always online trend. In the Singleplayer campain??? Whats the point of that ...
The gameplay is amazing, but the game is shit. I don't want to support a company who implements micro transactions in a SINGLE PLAYER game. The one good thing about GT7 is that it made me interested in the series again so I'm emulating GT4 in 4k.
We did the four 24h races with my brother and a friend during one summer. I stil have the memory card.
7:48 and then in GT6 the 24 hours of Le Mans was cut down to 24 minutes irl lol
But I do see what you mean with this.
@2:10 that, sir, is by far the MOST cursed pronunciation of "elementary" I have EVER heard.
It would be great if you could make a video like this for the original test drive unlimited!
i tried play this on my i5 4460 gtx 1050ti but had some graphical gluitches/issues ;(, looks like it runs well on your 1070, what your cpu ?
Found this out of curiousity if GT4 was as good as 8-Year old me thought while growing up with it (i.e. watching my father play it cuz i was too stupid to play it). Turns out me from 10 years ago had a good taste.
Great Video ^L^
hah I remember waking up early some days just to sit on the tv and play career mode when i was about that age. Good times.. still super fun on PCSX2
The only thing I dislike about GT4 is the lack of car description, I spent so much as a child reading cars and manufacturer description in GT2 and 3
There is indeed car description in gt4, they are even fully voiced. Unfortunately it’s exclusive to the original Japanese release.
Gran truismo isn’t a forza competitor, its the other way around. Gran turismo is THE driving experience of a life time
Excellent game.
When Polyphony digital was good
They seem alright now, it's just that they've moved their focus to multiplayer and from what I understand they've done a good job of it. Even the singleplayer portion of GT Sport isn't that horrible
Nice video.
thanks!
I haven't played my ps2 for a long time cuz a lot of my discs are scratched
Very Gran Turismo that you mentioned GT7 rumours back in 2018 and its out in 2022 lol
gaming
4:39 six hundred dAWHlars to ur name
lmaoo
You right,sure! I still playing GT4 on my ps2!
Gta4 will always be my favourite out of all the gta games I just got gta7 and I don't want to play it because I don't want to be disappointed like I was in gta5 and gta6 🥺😢
this is a VERY bold thing to say, but i've put so much thought into it i am very confident in doing so
no other racing game has ever come even close to make me experience the same thing that gt4 did the day i bought one of the endgame cars!
watching the game's demo replays with that incredibly fast mazda, checking it out in the dealership, deciding to put myself through endless license tests, figuring out a good way to make money and, above all, watching all of that come together to pile up an imense amout of money only to dump it all into one, singular 787b was a big task to do.
But you bet it was fucking worth it.
Cause blasting that rotary engine to pieces at 370km/h down the mulsanne at le mans, bouncing around that crappy highway as the rev limiter screeches, the wind sounds go crazy, the tires rip and tear and the goddamn windshield wiper wouldn't stop shaking was freaking amazing.
someone didnt do amalfi rally
For the Pal version is too sensitive to response as i felt like floating feeling in the car, maybe i will get the other version
Here after Gran Turismo 7 was announced!
you don't win that mutch money but you win cars. lot of them and you can win the cars as many time as you want and sell them.
but I agree on one thing : FREEDOM play the game as you want.
later gen games are more play when we tell you to play and do what we tell you to do.
I hated every GT after the 4 just for the daily connexion needed to win some money (they call it a bonus)
GT sport made me sell my PS4 just 2-3 months after buying it.
Since GT5 you have to play every day or it's just too long to buy new cars, upgrade them and finish the entire game.
we can't swith Aspec Bspec during the race.
you can't speed up Bspec
last month I bought back a PS2 with GT4, put my old memory card in it and I was the happiest person in the world.
Masterpiece.
The thing that I hate in gt4 is ia-15 and mission 34
Damn I need this game.
Fr best racing sim game and one of the best game for me.
GT4 Is the best !!!
Amén
24 hours driving in a video game?! what the fk?????
Gran Turismo 7 reminds me of 4 which is not a bad thing but now what I would like to see is Gran Turismo in VR mode that would be the ultimate game have a VR a steering wheel gear shift that would be the ultimate Gran Turismo ever as long as it kept the graphics the way they are it would be awesome
There's a good reason why I've had this game for 16 years and only have 40% completion.
It bothers me that people think my point is that Gran Turismo 4 is better than Forza Horizon 3. -Rodentbird
It is Better. -Me
A lot of this is the difference between old and new games. Especially with content and rewards. You had to unlock everything in Gran Turismo, Forza in comparison after about 10 races you can get a Ferrari.
Old games are like: there's a fuck tonne of content but you have to play the game to unlock it.
Wait wat happened 2 da vampyr review ):
