I’m no car enthusiast, I just like cars from a distance, but this channel really makes me want to give this a shot with a buddy of mine who knows what he’s doing. Wish I could’ve been here during such a project - so interesting! Really excited to see what’s next
So rad Willem! I’ve been watching your film photography channel for years, I’ve learned so much from you! I run an Automotive Import Performance shop in Oregon so it’s cool to see you dabbling in both worlds. Keep it up man, this is great!
Loving these videos man! I have the same car, a 2005 v70 although I’m having issues with my brakes and sometimes when I brake the car turns off. These vids make me want to do something Similar. This has been the only car I’ve gotten good comments on, owners of it or Volvo enthusiasts always tell me this is a great car and can last a long long time. But yeah super sick to see the process of replacing an engine, really seems like a fun thing to do/learn. Can’t wait to see results
Going to be swapping my dads motor out tomorrow wish me luck it’s a N/A 2.4L just like this one in the video except it’s a sedan. Excited to see the progress and to be doing my first REAL engine swap 😅
Bolts strip! Irwin makes a great set of extractors that I’ve used to pull stripped bolts (both by others and by myself) on my 1985 Mercedes. Works like a charm and definitely faster than an angle grinder.
At the machine shop I used to work at we had a way to resurface dual mass flywheels, but it came with a waiver of as is since they're really meant to be replaced.
Hey man, first great video. Second kitty litter, saw dust, or oil dry is a great thing to keep around while working on motors. I’ve done a few motor swaps myself and it makes cleaning up those unexpected spills a bit easier. Hope that helps the clean up process go a little smoother.
This is so Damn Dope! Glad you started this Channel because I like to believe Cameras and Cars go together for sure lol. Love the Volvos btw ! If I didn’t get a Saab a s60r or 2.5T would’ve been on the list
Love the new series! that t50 is a headache-- I just stripped one on my 06 Focus. Rust + red loctite is no fun-- hard to beat that combo. I also trusted the previous owner saying they replaced the timing belt on my e30 engine but good to be conservative on that interval. Looking forward to the next Verbwerks!
Did u heat the bolt up prior to trying to loosening it? Red loctite is the strongest stuff and supposed to be loosened by heating it up. There still would be quite some resistance, I guess ;-)
I thought you would have removed the bottom pan of the engine. Great job so far. That is one tight engine bay for a car that size. I thought you were working on a Honda.
Hey there, smart move on replacing the pcv system and oil cooler prior to install. The are a major pain later. That motor looks like 98 or prior. The thermostat housing has changed since then. There is a hidden torx under the housing that is not a great design. Volvo has used recycled materials. Their torx bolts are nowhere near stress 10. Personally I would never use a power tool to remove or install recycled bolts in an aluminum engine. Just a thought. I hope you can salvage parts off your old engine.
Hi Willem! Great to see you try something new that you're also passionate about. Your style lends itself really well to these types of videos and I hope there is a little crossover with your film photohraphy (e.g. a few bts b&w photos)! One little piece of feedback: In my case the background music on your videos was a little too loud during some of your talking bits. Might just be my hardware (TV) that is messing up the audio.
why do you know were each and every part goes? I would be so confused. I mean disassembling is easy but actually putting it back together... i would be so lost.. did you just watched a ton of tutorials or how did you deal with the matter? great video!! I am looking forward to some s60r content soon:))
Looks like it has the green injectors, which, if I'm not mistaken, have the highest flow rate. I have a 2000 V70R and it came on my year and I think one or two of the later years as well. The 2000 MY also has the 19T turbo, which I believe is the biggest Volvo put on a car, but I could be wrong.
I bought an 06 XC70 as my first car a few years ago. Love the 5 cylinder engine sound, the looks, the safety and comfort of this car. Had the PCV, timing belts and cam gears replaced as well. Btw just curious on where you buy your parts. I can only get them from volvo dealerships in Canada.
How many trips to Autozone did you do per day? Lol! This is awesome man. I’ve been slowly dipping my toes in car work with my dad, doing oil changes, differentials, brakes, etc. But this was a bold step!
HI. I have a 1998 V70 XC. A close friend gave it to me with 250k miles and I'm working on it to make it reliable again. Can you say where you sourced your replacement engine? Thanks.
Hey will, how bad has the maintenance / reliability been on your S60R? I've actually been looking into getting a V70R/S60R but just not sure about reliability as it will be my daily driver. Love this new channel cant wait for more uploads!
It hasn’t left me stranded, but they leak oil, have weird electrical issues and I would say the maintenance just requires a lot of attention if you want to drive it a lot
@@wheelemverb hm okay, maybe I'll end up getting an ep3 type r or some kind of Subaru instead (can't say that will be any more reliable though haha). Thanks for the response! I've been a big fan of your photography for a long time and you actually got me into film photography so it's cool to talk to you and find out you're into Volvo's as well : )
По конструкции этот двигатель не очень хороший: ремень газораспределительного механизма приводит еще и помпу системы охлаждения, и если подшипник помпы развалится, то ремень оборвется и клапаны столкнутся с поршнями.
Who taught you all the mechanics stuff? Are you a mechanic since living in Belgium and your dad taught you? I can´t believe its all RUclips Tutorials lol
It’s such a great thing having the satisfying chill vibes of film vids combined with car related stuff! I just love it
Love it thank you ✨

That’s awesome. Thanks for checking it out!
Willem really out here showing us that it's possible to keep two quite expensive hobbies at the same time, film photography and cars :D
If you thought film was expensive… try Volvos 😂
Loving the new channel boss! Always loved your photography trip videos but the car enthusiast in me makes this the cherry on top.
New favourite TY car channel along side with M539 Rest. - great to see this Scandi classic being restored. Lovely edit as usual. Peace 🙂
this series is so good dude. wow
Thank you dude 🥹
damnnn you weren't kidding when you said you had videos all ready to go!!
Just wait till you see the 4th video 🫡

That’s awesome! That’s for checking it out 🤝
I love your color profile for all of your videos, everything looks so filmic and peaceful. Please don't stop doing things on this channel 🙏
man i just want to keep watching you work on this thing!
It's nice to see no corners are being cut
Excited to see this progression. Glad to see someone else love film and Volvos.
Bro the binge episodic nature of these videos is amazing! So fun to watch! Keep it up!
Love that you get an idea and just do things. Great way to live, enjoy this build man!
I know you have experience doing youtube before but man the pacing makes it so easy to watch
It's an art in itself.
I know nothing about cars and am here based on your photography channel but you make this so accesible and engaging. So sick.
A photographers car channel means the shots are lined up real nice 😆 And clean too. I've loved cars all my life so this channel is great mix 👍
Plus the tunes, the tunes are so good ☺
This is the greatest combo of youtube genres to ever exist.
These videos are great, hope to see more! Unexpected but very welcome coming from your film stuff.
Yay! Very impressive work. So excited to see if it runs in the next one! 👍👍👍
Thanks Bob!
I’m glad that oil drain plug came out. The tightness of that would sketch me out thinkin I’d snap it off

After you replaced those seals, and the PCV oil trap, you can get over 100000 more on this engine!

These videos are sick!! Props for wrenching on a Volvo. Makes me feel lucky to only have to work on an old Toyota
I always loved this car. Ended up buying a 05 xc90 but wanted this one. Good choice man
I just love your videos better then netflix allready
So chill and inspiring !!
Very excited to see it start!
Next video 🤝

This man living my dream rn.
Good job. Like your videos, keep it up 👍👍
I would have changed the timing belt while you had such good access to it.
Great vid! I’m going to cruise through this channel😅
love love love this series already willem so relaxing and fun to watch
also don't to add subconsciously the garrett turbo, intercooler and if cash is at hand a BSR exhaust
ooooo, are you going to tear down the old engine too? That would make a great episode.
really helping me out i have the same car whit the same problem
🤝🤝🤝
Nice video, the timing belt if has more than 5 years, you may have to replace that for you safety.
I'm so jealous of American garages.
Nice Union sticker on your truck...

@1:49 Dude, that is quite reasonable.
I just wish that you spent this much time and effort on me willem
I want a stick V70 now!!!
Next step: air ride performance suspension, plus some Rotiform wheels hahahahah
Channel is great so far! Would love to see a a total cost of the build as it progresses at the end of each episode, if you have that information ✌🏼✌🏼
enjoying these vids so much 👍

niceeeeeee stuff
Good idea replacing the PCV. Worse in turbo cars but holy shit #1 Volvo annoyance is the PCV
And the location just makes it that much better
@@wheelemverb walked away from buying a couple C30s just bc I didn’t wanna deal with that 😂 happy to see the preventative maintenance being done!
Where did you buy that motor
Where did you get the engine from?
Most reliable engine t5 or t6??
Is Hector running a spoon engine?
Or you could do a t5 and have a fun wagon😂

German repair shops really have the best worst names
Probably a gear and wrench as the logo ⚙️🔧
Another USED engine
If you want to convert this to have a sunroof for a cool project you can ask me I'm parting my Volvo out so I can make some money off of it.
