    A little hint to help plants survive transplanting: Soak the plants in a basin, kids wading pool or something and let them all get a good, long drink. Dig a little wider and deeper than the root ball, throw some mulch and fertilizer into the hole and then water deeply. Then put the plants in and gently but firmly press the soil around them. Water the topsoil and then mulch.

    • @michelepaccione8806
      @michelepaccione8806 Год назад +9

      It also helps to form the surrounding soil into a little "wall" around the roots of the plant, so when you water the water won't just run away from the plant.

      Yeah ditto, let's us viewers support the good DIWife couple to get some hands on training with a guest horticulturalist. They definitely need to learn more about how to plant. Those plants aren't rocks. Think of the savings in plants, and they'll love gardening eventually. All gardeners can vouch for it getting under your skin and overtaking down time coz it's enjoyable, relaxing and REWARDING. cheers to all

      How you placed them before you planted them is the way to do it. Remember to tease the roots when you take the plant out of the pot. Make sure you water the new plants until they are established. Get the kids involved. Good luck!

    I’m an avid Gardner. Just a couple of tips for future planting. It makes the plants establish roots growth to use Espoma starter fertilizer. When the ground is that dry you should put water in the hole before you put dirt in then be sure to tamp the dirt in to not have pockets of air. All in all I love the selection of plants. Makes that space look amazing. Good job!

    Love the landscape design and your plant selection. Please saturate your new plants and flower beds with water because some of your root balls appeared to be dry. Then your drip irrigation will have a great start. Add some starter fertilizer so plants have established root system before we have a freeze. Dean you will need to dig up the crepe myrtle roots. Just trust me on this one. You can plant the roots out back and next year you will a free beautiful crepe myrtle. Fun video. Thanks see you next week.

    Can I just say how much I love playful Dean? These videos are always so lighthearted. I'm still a young adult but already I feel the pressure to be quiet and fit into the norm, to not catch any attention especially as a girl / woman. So next time I'll have a little shopping cart race or dance to the music in the supermarket I won't feel ashamed anymore😊in these times, everyone needs to have these small moments of joy or we'll all go insane. So I hope everyone had a great day. And if not, there will always be a new day to start over or just reset. Also you're not alone!🥰

      Advice from a NOT so YOUNG ADULT, If you want to sing or dance, enjoy yourself, dont let the presence of strangers strangle your fun (dont let anybody spoil you fun). I bounce around on space hoppers., sing, dance, etc
      I dont know these people. I'm not hurting anyone, and it brightens their day too.

    OK hon I can see by the comments you have a lot of people giving you tips and advice… But I have been an exterior decorator and designer for 20 years and I’m leaving you this message after having major surgery and being in major pain, so please know it’s only because I am watching your video and I want to see you succeed with the area in front of your house and give you the best advice I can to have them thrive. So for starters the best thing you could do is get some landscaping spray paint which would be a canvas raise at the top not at the side it’s usually orange sometimes red yellow either way it goes away. Read the tags on each one of your plants and you can do this now even though you planted them. Do you want to read the tag and you want to draw out a circle in your planting area of how big they’re going to get so how wide they’re going to get so then you’ll have the big circles of how wide they’re going to get. Then in the circle for each plant use the landscaping paint and write the number of the height they’re going to get so then you’ll have a why they’re gonna grow and then in the center of the number of how tall are gonna grow. That will tell you where to place your plants and how far apart you need to place them even though in the beginning it’s going to look sparse They’re not gonna die off because they don’t have the room to grow and they’re not so close that one is growing or taking all the nutrition to try to grow to the size it’s supposed to grow and therefore killing off some of the others. Then you need to address your soil, Your soil is hard and it’s gray which means it doesn’t have any nutritions in it. So you need to get a really good starter plant fertilization as well as if I was you I would get some good topsoil and I would till it into the ground to break up that hard soil and get some better soil mixed in with that hard grey rocky soil, so I do that first and then once you have all your circles drawn out and you know how tall your plants are gonna get you said the plants that I can get the tallest in the back on the circles of their size and then you layer them forward the shorter they’re going to get and if you don’t want to and topsoil to the whole garden at least put some good soil in the hole and take the soil you have and fill up a bucket or something with it and get rid of it then before you plant your plants put in a good quality starter plant fertilization because your plant is only as good as the soil you plant in what you add to it and how well the roots do even if the tops don’t look great if those routes are establishing correctly then you’re gonna have a happier healthier plant that will last longer or will grow strong enough to withstand Extreme weather stream storms etc. so you really want to work on mapping it out first and know that where you’re setting your plants they’re not too close together it’s far enough apart but they’re going to grow in and not overcrowd each other and that you’re not putting ones in the front that are going to over grow in the height and you’re not gonna see the ones in the back so if you map it out the way I said and like I said the best way that we do it As a designer is with landscaping paint is that where you get your circumference how big it’s gonna get when it’s grown and you get how tall it’s gonna grow as your number on the inside like 4 feet 5feet 2 feet or whatever it might be. Then you need to amend that soil even if you’re just putting some soil in each hole and pulling out some of your own basically dead soil the color and texture of your soil it’s dead there’s no nutrition to feed those brand new plants. Then each hole add a starter fertilizer! If you follow these instructions you’re going to have a better chance of your plants roots spreading out and taking hold and there for giving you a better result in the end. The biggest problem people have is your such a large area and if you set them out the way they’re going to grow my size it’s still gonna look sparse to you But that’s normal because they’re only starter plants but as they grow they’re going to grow and look great so you just have to live with that look for a small amount of time. And then you want to make sure you water them in immediately and you will not have air pockets like some people have mentioned if you take out some of your soil add a good topsoil then a good starter plant fertilizer at that when you can add some water to the hole if you want or you can plant them and pack them in not too tight but you don’t want air and then just water them all in really really well the first time right after you’re done. And then if you’re having a really warm spell make sure they get watered daily in the morning or at night and then as the weather changes if you’re getting a good amount of rain they’re going to get what they need if you’re not then have them watered periodically just less watering in the winter because that’s when they’re going to go dormant. You also want to keep the tags and maybe put them somehow right where the plants are in the ground or on a steak or something and write on it when they’re supposed to come out and grow so if they are spring bloomers or summer bloomers or fall bloomers you’ll know and if the plant looks dead on the top but yet they’re not supposed to bloom until late summer you won’t pull them out because you think they’re dead. So if you write down the stuff that I’ve told you and follow it you’re going to have so much more success with that area and any area so that is the advice of a exterior decorator designer for over 20 years and those really are the basics. I know it’s long but I have to speak this because I just had major surgery and I can’t type. I just want you to have a great experience help your plants have a great experience and for you love your garden for many many years to come especially with all the hard work. God bless and happy growing, both in knowledge and in your front garden space😉❌❤️❣️❣️❣️

    I was wondering when you’d get to the yards, you have a nice big space and I know you can make it look fabulous.

    First off you guys, we have our house here in GA painted the SAME colors as yours! haha I love painted brick! But the landscaping turned out beautiful!! We have the pea gravel like you do too, although ours is in a flower bed because we have a 4 foot over hang, so nothing grows. Love all the plants you picked out, and those pots with the mums! I love them! Fall is my favorite time of year! Good job, it looks beautiful!❤

    Great job, you guys!! I’m in Texas, too, and the weather hasn’t been kind to my plants, either, so I’m hoping to replace them soon now that it’s cool. Thanks for the motivation!!🌳🌸🌳

    Love your content and I am sure you are busy with all the projects you do and raising a family. Gentle suggestion - plant native plants. The benefits are too numerous to mention but the main one is that you don't have to water much for some of our great Texas natives. Check your local Native Plant Society club as they have regular plant sales at great prices. Also, insects prefer native plants which helps you have a healthy ecosystem which helps with keeping plants healthy...so less work for you and no need for chemicals. Edited to add....Your main plantings will get large so you can "fill in" with other plants - herbs, annuals, perennial flowers - just to make up the difference. As the large plants grow, reduce the inter-plantings. Also, you can usually dig up a plant and move it if you find things are getting too big so nothing is set in stone! So enjoy!
