I'm interested in the theory that Jack dialogued (as well as doing his usual story work) on this one. It certainly reads differently from the previous issues. The characters have a depth and interact with a thoughtfulness that seems quite Kirby-like, when you read things like his Boys' Ranch stories. I don't recall ever reading a Stan story with that level of character depth prior to this.

Great job Tom, I remember reading somewhere that supposedly NYC’s The Chrysler Building was the inspiration for The Baxter Building, although you would think at some point Stan & Jack might have given the Baxter Building some metallic gargoyles and more of a sphere antenna top if that was the case, but maybe something like that would have been too obvious a giveaway for Stan & Jack.

The writing seems to have markedly matured with the last couple of issues; this is a really rich comic, and I had this idea that the FF was pretty goofy in the early years (though there are some genuinely silly episodes coming up).
I have a feeling that Kirby's idea was that Namor was enough of an elemental creature to catch and funnel the electric shock back from Doom's attack, like catching a grenade and throwing it back at enemy soldiers, and that Stan came up with the DC-style "electric eel powers because I'm from the sea" rationale.

Die Hard in Space -perfect. I first read this at the age of seven. My mom and sis bought me the Pocket Books Fantastic Four paper back reprinting the six or seven issues. 12:43: agreed. An iconic, astounding panel/splash. Kirby’s storytelling genius on full tilt. 15:56 keen eyesight, Tom. Great observation

Bought this for 5 cents, from a store that had comics on a table with the covers missing when I was 12 years old. Thanks for the memories.

When I see Dr. Doom in the cockpit of his ship towing the Baxter Building into space, I think of the repo man from Hell. I'm behind the school of thought that Kirby also wrote the dialogue because the Thing compares Doom's weapon to a live bomb and in the Inhumans story written by Kirby in Amazing Adventures #4, Medusa compares the Manadarin to a human bomb. Very bombastic dialogue.
The Sub-Mariner's power of the electric eel sits better with me than his pufferfish power that Dick Ayers drew him having in Strange Tales 107.

A lot of Star Wars was inspired by the work of Jack Kirby. May the Source be with you.:)

Absolutely! I just re-read KAMANDI #1 and noticed even more Star Wars similarities! Kamandi is practically Han Solo and Luke Skywalker rolled into one!

Great video, great issue. I'd love to have seen this issue in Jack's later style, though I love this earlier look. Your mention of the love triangle got me a thinking. A video about all the different situations that guys like Jack and Stan, Ditko, Miller, Claremont used between all the Superhero stuff would be super interesting and useful.

Love this issue of Fantastic Four #6, the first time Namor and Doom teamed up and definitely is not the last even if they don’t get along or trust each other for good reasons. But imagine if they could put their egos aside nobody on earth could stop them

Was someone new doing finishes because this might be some of my favorite Kirby Inks yet. Especially Sue and Johnny just seem to be such a departure from the first couple issues. Do I chalk that up to Kirby still figuring out the looks? The Thing seems to be approaching his final form.

Ever find yourself in that moment when you know one of your hero’s knows another one of your hero’s….an one of them crosses that line and becomes some kinda anti-hero…… it’s like wanting to ask superman wtf is up with batman but you don’t know how because they are both marvel guys.
I’m just worried I’m going to say the wrong thing and be banished to the negative zone by the justice league.
