    Thanks so much for this. I bought a new house about 8 months ago and never remembered to congratulate myself... 😅 I got carried away with the snags, decorating etc.

    Congratulations on the house! I think one point to even add if i may is that as immigrants we sometimes feel like we're doing something wrong when we struggle with understanding the entire process of buying a house but it's actually not an immigrant thing, it's a general UK think. I've had white British colleagues pull their hair out with the stress and confusion.
    On another note, if you want to leave, leave oh. The fear of not sure you're being permanent was one of the reasons lots of older Nigerian immigrants I know never bought houses when they could have easily afforded to. Barring Russia laying siege to the UK, buying a house is a really good investment and the process to sell or rent or even Air BnB is not as difficult. Obviously lots of paperwork, but not difficult at all.
    Anywho, all the best in your new home! I hope you both make lots of lovely memories there!

    Especially being a Landord and not settling in immediately. It might take you months before it starts to feel like home

    Hi Chidera, congratulations on your home. Please what were the challenges you encountered as a tier 2 holder when trying to buy a home. Was told it’s tougher for immigrants than citizens. Please reply

    Hi Chidera, congratulations on your new home! I recognise the developer for your property as my husband and I are due to complete in Mar for our property with the same developer. What was your experience with them like? We've already had an issue where we can see the work carried out is not what we paid for so we've had to ask them to rectify it.

    Educational video as always. Commenting on the point where you said you cant really "go anywhere" because you now have a house ,like you are tied down in quote, or you have to wait for at least 5years so it will appreciate in value before you sell it , i mean you can rent it😅, you don't have to necessarily stay if you don't want to, rent it and when the time reach, you sell it 😂(i dont even know if i am making sense 😂

    • @ChideraPeters
      @ChideraPeters  6 месяцев назад

      Yeah but when you buy a house as your own residential property and choose to rent it out, it can be a hassle. As the banks would have to be involved, you’ll need to get permission from them before you rent it. And the process in the U.K. is stressful 😅

    I really don't understand the 30% ceiling thing. Am sure that depends on the deposit you've and the interest rate. The location also matters.

    Fair points there. Just a bit of grammatical correction, the bank “lends” you money. You “borrow” from the bank. Cheers.

      The content was really good overall, but hearing "borrow" instead of "lend" at the start did irk me a bit tbh, but hey, we use "borrow" for both in Nigeria 😀

    Can you use part of the money from bank to furnish the house

    • @ChideraPeters
      @ChideraPeters  6 месяцев назад +3

      No you can’t. You don’t even have access to the money as it is paid directly to the solicitor and they pay it directly to the developers

    • @michellejoia
      @michellejoia 6 месяцев назад +1

      They offer only the money u need and as chideea said it’s a transition from bank to solito to developer that’s why I always personally advice to save more money for that purpose and for in case something happens in the house especially if it’s not new a building… ( I needed to replace my boiler few months after buying my property)
