The words in their songs are just words taken from ancient coins and runes from the Germanic and Viking times. So basically it's representation of those times. The band members are from Germany Denmark and Norway. I highly recommend watching some of their videos. Their video of "Anoana" is a great place to start. It will blow you away. As a point of interest the word Heilung is German for healing. I think the performance is kind of healing.
the sad point is, that we know a lot about runes and their meaning, but we know nothing about how this viking-aera music sounded. have you seen that symphonic viking voyage-concert by einar selvic, eivor and the danish symphonic orchestra? it gives interesting insights into music of that time
If you like the female (Maria Franz) vocals check out In Maidjan from the same album. Alfadhirhaiti, Hamrer Hippyer, Svanrand, Asja, Norupo are also good. But my favourite is the official video of Anoana.
Some bands offer music, while others offer an experience. I saw Heilung last September for the first time. It'll change things inside of you for a long time afterward.
I love Heilung. Languages used in their songs are German, English, Gothic, Old High German, Icelandic, Latin, Old English, Proto-Norse, Proto-Germanic, and Old Norse Here's some of their unique instruments: Bones. Drums made of horse, deer and goat skin. Buffalo horn rattle and a clay rattle. Hindu ritual bell. A Ravanahatha (bowed, stringed instrument used in India and Sri Lanka; neck is wood or bamboo, sound box is gourd or coconut shell with a stretched hide, and the strings are gut or hair).
I've been listening to Heilung for 2 years and got to see them live last September with a friend of mine. We both walked out of the concert with our minds blown. I'm not really religious, but I would call it a religious experience, or at least that's what I assumed a religious experience would feel like. They had these large drums that one person banged on that I felt the force of each bang on it in my chest and I was in 25th row. Welcome to the Heilung family, because the band told an interviewer that they don't have fans, they have brothers and sisters.
Their live performances are outstanding. I've been there three times and the way they get the crowd going is wild! There are people in some kind of trance, everyone's chanting, clapping and stomping along. It's a perfomance you'll never going to forget and might get addicted to it.
Heilungs concerts are more like shamanic rituals and the music gets in and grabs you by the DNA and won't let go. Oh and they are human bones Maria is playing.
Heilung is life changing. Its profound and primal. You either connect to it or not, for those who do feelnit down to their core and it awakens something deep within. Otherwise, one is not ready yet to have the ears to hear. The whole Lifa show (ceremony) is a must. It starts with opening prayer thingy and then it goes into "In Maidjan" which showcases Maria franz, aka tassle girl, vocals and not surprising she is from the Angelina Jordan country of Norway so you know its grade A! So many vocalist I listen to on a daily is from Norway. Aurora, Eivør (close enough to Norway) Einar with Wardruna, Kalandra, Jonna, and saved best for last Angelina. Legend goes if you let a lizard listen to heilung it transformes into a dragon!
I am Norwegian and have to say that calling the Faroe Islands where Eivor is from close enough to Norway that it does not matter😵 is insulting to the Faroe Islands and Eivor that is very proud to be Faroese. It is like saying Taylor Swift is Mexican because it is close enough to the USA🙄 And if you mean Jonna as in Jonna Jinton she is Swedish not Norwegian.
I saw a live ritual a year ago. Was one of the most intense experiences I have had. They are awesome. Try Anoana, Norupo, Othan. Their song Nikkal is a song to the moon goddess Nikkal. Based on one of the oldest known songs from 1400 BC. Written down as cuneiform tablets and discovered in the early 1950’s. It’s the only one that was still in one piece. It consists of instructions to play the melody and sing the lyrics but true details have been lost over time.
It's a magical war song. The title is Old Norse, where "krig" means "war" and "galdr" is a form of sung incantation. Thanks for reacting to this fascinating group!
@@asjaosaline5987 I might be a bit too used to the Swedish word for war (which happens to be "krig"). You're right that "krig" is more proto-Germanic than Old Norse. However, the second word "galdr" is very much Old Norse.
Heilung is more than music, it's primal and spiritual and stirs smth deep inside of us. Anyone with any knowledge about paganism, and/or inclination for it, will feel it. I whole-heartedly recommend "In Maidjan" from the same show. Or in fact the whole thing, it's mindblowing. The official videos for "Norupo" and "Anoana" are awesome too.
Their headdress is based on a 9000 year old archeological find of a shaman in Bad Dürrenberg, Germany. It's now in the Landesmuseum für Vorgeschichte (State Museum of Prehistory) in Saxony-Anhalt.
If you'd like to see one of their official videos, not live, try "Anoana". It tells a pretty straightforward story (child is born, eventually finds her spirit animal...is the over-simplification.) It's a beautiful song, with a beautiful video, and it has a story that you can follow, so not knowing the words is just fine. Thanks for the reaction to this wonderful band.

Krigsgaldr-and the LIFA performance as a whole-is about a peaceful village driven to war. To me, this song beautifully portrays sorrow and anger as you listen to the sounds of swords being forged alongside their war chant. And then the English lyrics give you some insight into everything going on. "What if I want to talk about peace and understanding, but you only understand the language of the sword?" Well, if you're gonna force me into this, I'm gonna sing you my "Lullaby of obliteration."
Recently fell in love with their music. Some rabbit hole :D Check out their other most popular songs. Anoana is a great cinematic video too. Great reaction, can see you feel the tribal DNA in you working :D

i did wonder what the line was "morass of the red rain" as i hear that, but can also here "Moris of the red rain" both work in context (Moris as in Moris Dancers)
I've seen them perform live once at a festival. I personally wasn't hooked. My face was like yours at 5:00 and the multiple "What? 😐" You said during the video, were my thought during the whole show. You made me cackle at 11:47 😆. And then "How is it going Susan?" 😂😂😂. But I agree their artistic performance is phenomenal and the way the show is bought is a lot of work and they do it really good. Just doesn't speak to me 🤷🏻♂️.
war was an important part of the viking aera. while christians aim is to be a good christian to go to heacven after death, for a wiking the goal was to die on the warfield and go to walhalla. war was also neccessary to aquire new land for a growing population.
Awesome reaction. Want another bizarre experience? Check out The Hu. Great Chinggis or their version of Metallic "Sad but True". I always tell my friends that I have the widest taste in music and they don't believe me. I've blown a few people away by sharing this. Anowana by Heiling is gorgeous, too!
well, i can only repeat my suggestion for eivor, last kingdom main theme live at hammersmith apollo. she is truly a nordic goddess, unrivaled. and after that one, i'd reccomend falling free live at the old theater in tórshavn. or whatever you might pick. tròdlabùndin, wake me up, truth live at studio bloch, í tokuni music video, .... she is one of those artists where you say "OMG, where has she been all my life???" by the way, eivors native language, faroese, is closest to old norse together with icelandic

Credit to user @Nidels who posts the background on many of these reactions: "The texts of the song have been extracted from the Eggia stone. Eggja's stone (also known as Eggum's or Eggjum's stone) This is a large flat stone with runic inscriptions that covered a tomb dating from the period between 650 and 700 and that was discovered while plowing a field in 1917 at Eggja farm in Sogn og Fjordane, Norway. When it was found, the inscription was on the underside of the slab covering a man's grave, so that it could not be read from the outside (like the Kylver stone). The stone is currently in the Bergen museum. It has about 200 runes, making it the longest inscription engraved with letters of the ancient futhark alphabet, although some runes have a transitional form to the young futhark." If I can remember correctly, these poor people have such a hard time going through airports because they use real bones(I believe human) as instruments.
The European metalheads landed here in search of faster, harder, louder music. Co-founder Kai-Uwe is an avowed death metal fan, they play at metal festivals and release on a metal label. All three met in the reenactment scene, where similar costumes are worn and people live according to the times. That's why nothing seems like it was staged. There's nothing set. There are no musical recordings from before Christianization. What you hear is our idea of what it might have sounded like. In fact, there are several thousand years of musical development between them. The music back then was probably much simpler. Another famous band is: Wardruna and Aurora - Helvegen (Live)
This song's lyrics actually are complaining abouy the dudes who grabbed oars and went to conquer shit- and ended up at some poor village. It's based off the text on an ancient stone commerating the battle that ensued, which the natives apparently won, at cost, leaving them wondering what divine force deemed to steer the raiders to their shores.
Who's getting sacrificed tonight???. Very Tribal this form of vocalisations where once common in our more primative past The Mongolians still use this way of singing. Eveytime i hear something like this i think of Conan or Vikings.
I LOVE Heilung, they are pure primal!!! Please consider reacting to their song "Anoana"
But first, please, the music video! It's one of the most beautiful I've seen so far.
This was their first ever Live Performance and they became instant legends! That entire show is worth watching.
In maidjian from the same concert (their first concert BTW) she pulls some vocal gymnastics, awakening some ancestors for sure

Great comment
Your fires of purification look like dying embers
Check out all of their music…incredibly talented group! Heilung means healing. 😉👍
Recently fell in love with their music. Some rabbit hole :D Check out their other most popular songs. Anoana is a great cinematic video too. Great reaction, can see you feel the tribal DNA in you working :D

What am I supposed to do
If I want to talk about peace and understanding
But you only understand the language of the sword?
What if I want to make you understand that the path you chose leads to downfall
But you only understand the language of the sword
What if I want to tell you to leave me and my beloved ones in peace
But you only understand the language of the sword
I let the blade do the talking
So my tongue shall become iron and my words the mighty roar of war
Revealing my divine anger's arrow shall strike
All action for the good of all, I see my reflection in your eyes
But my new age has just begun, the sword is soft
In the fire of the furnace, it hungers to be hit
And wants to have a hundred sisters
In the coldest state of their existence
They may dance the maddest in the morass of the red rain
Beloved brother enemy, I sing my sword song for you
The lullaby of obliteration
So I can wake up with a smile
And bliss in my heart and bliss in my heart and bliss in my heart
Coexistence, conflict, combat
Devastation, regeneration, transformation
That is the best I can do for you
I see a grey gloom on the horizon
That promises a powerful sun to rise, melt away all moons
It will make the old fires of purification, purification
Look like dying embers, look like dying embers
Look like dying embers, look like dying embers
Look like dying embers, look like dying embers
Look like dying embers, look like dying embers
Look like dying embers, look like dying embers

Engl. Translation (nearly meaning translation)
War Chant
The household wanes,
Vil threw a death wave over those
the oar locks wore out for, with the tired mast-top
Who brought...
Who brought the horde over to the far country?
The godly-fish from Firnøy’s streams
Swimming in the drift
of the land of shining meadows.
What am I supposed to do
If I want to talk about peace and understanding
But you only understand the language of the sword
What if I want to make you understand that the path you chose leads to downfall
But you only understand the language of the sword
What if I want to tell you to leave me and my beloved ones in peace
But you only understand the language of the sword

So my tongue shall become iron
And my words the mighty roar of war
Revealing my divine anger´s arrow shall strike
All action for the good of all

i did wonder what the line was "morass of the red rain" as i hear that, but can also here "Moris of the red rain" both work in context (Moris as in Moris Dancers)
@@somthingbrutal Morass, maybe as in blood soaked dirt. Makes horrible, red mud
Btw...thanks for the translation
@@Bludngutz both words work one sounds more like you are happy to be there ;)
I love it too. To me it takes back to my (perceived) Celtic roots
Still gotta love Irish and Scottish pub jams. Fiddle, git, banjo, concertina, bodhran and singin'
Just doesn't speak to me 🤷🏻♂️.
i love your face, computing, error, processing ...................................................
Another unique band you may enjoy is Omnia...check out their joyful song, Fee Ra Huri!
they are starting touring the U.S right now, please try to grab a ticket because seeing them live is quite an EXPERIENCE!!
Got a ticket three months ago for November!
@@Bludngutz excellent!!
Can't wait to know how you will feel after that! Enjoy it brother!!

Probably more wavy-gravey than slam pit
I'll save that up for "Slaughter to Prevail" after the war is done
The lady is Maria Franz from Norge, she is next level talented and stunningly beautiful under her performance costume.
Check out Eivor Palsdottir
She has an incredible voice
You have to do it her theme to "The Last Kingdom" is incredible

Also looks like a Shield maiden/Valkerie
FYI they will be performing in Baltimore, MD next month.
Gonna be there?
@@Bludngutz i am planning to go to the Charleston, SC show.
"Yeah! What?!"😂 I remember having that reaction myself.
war was an important part of the viking aera. while christians aim is to be a good christian to go to heacven after death, for a wiking the goal was to die on the warfield and go to walhalla. war was also neccessary to aquire new land for a growing population.
Mongolian folk metal?! Hoo-ahh!!
Definitely check them out! @@Bludngutz
well, i can only repeat my suggestion for eivor, last kingdom main theme live at hammersmith apollo. she is truly a nordic goddess, unrivaled. and after that one, i'd reccomend falling free live at the old theater in tórshavn. or whatever you might pick. tròdlabùndin, wake me up, truth live at studio bloch, í tokuni music video, ....
she is one of those artists where you say "OMG, where has she been all my life???"
by the way, eivors native language, faroese, is closest to old norse together with icelandic
For something more gentle try Anoana.

Credit to user @Nidels who posts the background on many of these reactions:
"The texts of the song have been extracted from the Eggia stone. It has about 200 runes, making it the longest inscription engraved with letters of the ancient futhark alphabet, although some runes have a transitional form to the young futhark."

If I can remember correctly, these poor people have such a hard time going through airports because they use real bones(I believe human) as instruments.
Your face said it all, its alot to take in :)
Another famous band is:
Wardruna and Aurora - Helvegen (Live)
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤love it
If you lock at the music video (not the live) you understand what the somg is about!

This gets my Celtic, Anglo, Viking DNA Buzzing 😠😠😠
This song's lyrics actually are complaining abouy the dudes who grabbed oars and went to conquer shit- and ended up at some poor village. It's based off the text on an ancient stone commerating the battle that ensued, which the natives apparently won, at cost, leaving them wondering what divine force deemed to steer the raiders to their shores.
Sometimes you get the bear, other times...the bear gets you
