  • The Ultimate Summer Camp Jeep is due for some maintenance and trail prep, but when I decided to do one little upgrade the "Reckoning" showed up to slow progress. Follow along to find out what went wrong and how I eventually sorted it out.

Every 5 minute job is one broken bolt from becoming a 3 day ordeal. Way to go persevering through it! 👍🏻

I think you’re one of the only famous wheelers on RUclips actually showing what the real process of wrenching is like, the nitty gritty. When I watch this, it reminds me of what I go through on mine lol.

Real life garage show! As a life time mechanic recently retired I get a kick out of watching these shows like this instead of the fake drama "we're going to lose the shop!" ones. Might be tedious to some folks but not to me. Loved the washer on the vise grips so you could tap it, never thought of that one before!

God…. I miss you and Dave on DED. I needed intense therapy and powerful drugs to help over the hump. I’m so glad I found your channel. You two had such great chemistry and so much fun together in DED and was so evident on screen. I subscribed to Dave yesterday and you today. I now watch DED reruns many times over. I’m 80 yrs old, live in suburban Philly and own a minivan AND STILL enjoy all your shenanigans. Thanks for all the time producing this great content.

This was a sweet project. It was something that needed to be done, and the difficulty seemed realistic. It makes me feel a bit better about taking two days to put shocks on the front of my truck after I had to cut off the sway bar links and get new ones because they were rust welded together.

I have rebuilt a few 4L80E transmissions, and when you said you where going to swap out the late model shift shaft for the early model shift shaft the first that came to mind was the problem you where going to have with that swedged nail. Also, the shaft is flare out a small amount, and requires being ground down to clear the shaft case bore.

The manufacturers will pull stuff like that to save time on assembly. When I can, I will tap such things for a standard bolt/plug. Press-in oil gallery plugs are another good example.

That's an awesome car! It has been great seeing you build it. I have learned a lot from this series. It amazes me to see how you are able to figure out what the computers program was. You rely present things God so it's easy to follow and understand. I think it would be fun to see the Magnum and Idenity Crisus run against each other. You have to rework the truck rear suspension first.

we call that ingenuity, my friend, every hard-working mechanic out there has run into stuff like that. we come up with some ingenious ways to fix it. I ask you how many times have you use a 12 penny nail to lock down a castle nut on a wheel bearing or bought a car and later on, you, pulled it down to do maintenance, and it had a nail instead of a cotter pin.

A TH400 shifter shaft is retained in the case w a "nail" which has NO knurling , OEM design. many GM transmission governors use two "nails" to hold them together.

Recently did a selector shaft seal on my old ford fmx. 30yrs wrenching and I’d say it was the most unpleasant experience I’ve had. Between the fluid and juggling act of alignment and detent spring that would blow it all apart it was a nightmare.

  • @RyanGlenn810

For the transmission pin its possible that the suspension pin or shock shaft from a RC car would do the job to. There are many different styles, hardness's and sizes so as to the specific one I cant say but for odd stuff like that never count out your local hobby shop.
