Idk if you will see this but I wanted to state this anyway. The reason why most of the other Nomu were mindless monsters is because of the fact that almost all of them have multiple quirks except for some low tier Nomu and their bodies have their physical abilities increased through experiments. It has been stated earlier that having multiple quirks strains the cognitive ability and therefore Nomus end up mindless monsters. High Ends are the first physically enhanced and multiple quirk holding Nomus that are intelligent. Kurogiri on the other hand has only one quirk. This one quirk was made by using Shirakumo’s quirk as a base and mixing other quirks. Also he wasn’t experimented on to improve physical abilities. This is why Kurogiri is intelligent. But one quirk isn’t enough for AFO and Kyudai and that is why they continued experiments to create the perfect body to hold multiple quirks while retaining intelligence so as to create the ultimate being aka Shigaraki. The original form of OFA was the mixing of two quirks to form a single quirk, stockpiling and transfer. They ended up as one quirk. I believe it was stated that Warp Gate is a combination of multiple quirks to form one quirk. This is a reply to both the replies I got. I hope it makes sense. Ofc there could be some other crazy explanation but this is what I gathered from the all the reading I have done.
What if during the time oboro nomu was being all might attcked all for one and the doctor was there and his research was lost during the fight and so it took a long time to make a high end for a long time!!!!
It is a valid point but I would disagree bcoz of three reasons. 1. Its AFO. He is the most cautious person in the manga and always plans ahead. I dont think he would risk All Might finding out about the Nomu or accidentally destroying Kyudai’s research and therefore the fight would have happened far from the research facility. Though AFO’s injuries would have significantly slowed down the research. 2. No one knew about Kyudai. If All Might destroyed the research he would have known about Kyudai and stopped him which he didnt which means no one knew about the research. 3. If the High End creation only begun after AFO’s defeat then the timeline is messed up bcoz of how fast they created 12 High Ends. They would have made 2 High Ends per year since its been 6 years since AFO vs AM, the first fight. But Kyudai said its really hard to make the High Ends and harder without AFO. The nomu variants may simply be due to the freshness of the body used. A living subject has all tissues intact and no major brain damage. With time, corpse decompose and this may pose a problem to the nomu creation. I think the tiers of nomu are not due to design, but a byproduct of the availability of "materials". So low-end nomu are no more than walking half-decomposed corpses. This explain the low intelligence, for example.

I'm gonna be honest, it's been in the back of my mind sense the fight between All Might and All For One. I think AFO is raising Shigaraki so he can take his body for his own.
I actually thought the same. All For One is cruel and will do anything to accomplish his goals, just as he went all out to attempt to demoralize All Might. No way someone like that has a heart to raise someone unless it was for their own gain. We all know All For One's manipulated Shigaraki and Deku will have his fated battle against All For One
1- Kurogiri may have been in development during more than a decade (14 years or so) 2- He may have been created with using all for one power, not just in the lab 3- He is the prototype, is a cliche in the anime where the prototype end up more powerful than the latest models, but more costly/harder/rare as well (ex. Epyon from gundan)
The nice about the chapter is that Shigaraki when he faced his mother and sister smiled to them like saying "do not worry, i'm not angry nor i hold a grudge against you, i simply left everything behind." Meanwhile when he faced his father whit that grin as saying :"you can't touch me anymore, your threats are empty as you are, get lost." He really accepted his past and moved over, and having to face a enemy mentally safe and sound with a huge power is actually frightening.

It may just take longer to get a Nomu to the level Kurogiri flaunts, like 14 or 10 years, and maybe they stay in their tubes longer. cause didn't the doctor say that the high end Nomu weren't ready yet or something? So, if that would be the case then All for One and the doctor have 'perfected' the Nomus but are trying new ways to cut those long years to over half.
It could also be how shirokumas body reacted to the added quirk, maybe the other nomu were not compatible with multiple quirk so they were engineered into have bodies that could contain multiple quirks

If you look at Vigilantes, the main villain is also quite similar to the high-end Nomu, with multiple quirks, including a quirk that was stolen from a pro hero by All-for-One, and is quite intelligent with a distinct personality. And this is a prequel, taking place after Kurogiri would've been made but well before any of the other known Nomu. There's also a flashback to him as a child before he was transformed, so he was probably not dead when it happened. And might have been an artificial life form designed to take quirks from the start. My guess is that you can get a smarter Nomu by using a living person (or perhaps a person who *just* died and thus none of their brain cells have rotted yet), but the reason for using corpses at all is that it's easier to stack not just one or two but potentially dozens of quirks on them that way. Kurogiri for example only has a single quirk (albeit a very strong one that was made by All-for-One fusing at least two quirks together). He also doesn't seem to have enhanced strength like all the later Nomu, or Super Regeneration which is apparently standard-issue for the black Nomu. The idea that Shigaraki is basically being turned into a type of Nomu himself is interesting, though.
Isn’t a much simpler answer to Kurogiri is that much like The first user of OFA. When Oboro was given a quirk, his quirk was able to mix with the one he was given, meaning he still had his intelligence. After all, Kurogiri only has one quirk, Warp Gate. So it just makes sense that he still has his intelligence because he only has one quirk.

I think the reason why he is so much smarter is also because of Quick singularity. he has only maybe 2 quicks and not 6+. Add on that on top of the he might be alive at the time, but still, we dealing with less quicks
Perhap one of the quirks could be a resurrection. So even if the user is dead, they can come back to life, and for others provided there is still a functioning body in the of structure like a frankstain monster.

My theory for why kurogiri is so much more intelligent is that he only has one quirk even if it is a combination of several. Besides kurogiri has a more or less human anatomy. Edgeshot went inside him and didn't notice anything that he was a nomu. I think the difference is that kurogiri wasn't ever meant to fight, all for one made him only to take care of shigaraki.

Shigaraki with the strength of a high end nomu plus the brain not to mention multiple quirks. It kinda makes sense why deku might need the other one for all users powers.
My take on the subject is that kuro is just shirakumo + quirks and the doctor didn't have the copy quirk thing perfect and used All 4 1, my theory is that the doctor had the sturdy rig of the high ends in mind.
I think Kurogiri is more advanced and intelligent than other Nomus because he was driven by heroic morals and wanted to be a hero. This allowed him to have a clear and pure mindset. The second reason is that his quirk isn't a power type quirk that corrupted him. It was a useful supporting tool.

I totally agree that Shirakumo was turned into Kurogiri when he was still alive, it makes sense. As for the other high end Nōmu, I think they were made from corpses, they have higher intelligence due to the progression in Ujiko’s research.
It just my theory (maybe rebuild an/or expand your theory) but what if inteligence of Nomu depends on how fast they preserve the brain. The later, the more brain cells die which cant be recoverd, the more brain function are disabled for good leaving only basics like motorics, instincts and following orders.

We all should know that that a high end nomu is going to turn to the good side because they will see shigaraki and simply see him as too dangerous(enemy of my enemy). Also my guess about Kurogiri is oboro was alive which allowed him to seem “normal” because oboro was brain dead or like you said the doctor and all for one were initially trying to make new quirks for nomu versus just putting multiple quirks into one body.
While watching this a question popped in my mind would Nine be considered a nomu? Maybe he was the second experiment to be made just like Kurogiri but while the person is still alive but not as healthy.

In the chapter the doctor said that AFO just used a copy of his own quirk against All Might.That means that Shigaraki will become the original All for One with all the quirks AFO ever took from someone. When Shigaraki wakes up he will become the ultimate symbol of Evil.
One thing I don't understand about the latest chapters is how is aizawa able to erase the high end nomu's quirks. We clearly saw in the usj arc that he wasn't able to erase a nomu's quirks so how is this possible?
It might just be the natural ability/ side effect of the quirk user or something within their genome that was latent that is unlocked during the nomu proces 🤷🏽♂️

If you look at Vigilantes, the main villain is also quite similar to the high-end Nomu, with multiple quirks, including a quirk that was stolen from a pro hero by All-for-One, and is quite intelligent with a distinct personality. And this is a prequel, taking place after Kurogiri would've been made but well before any of the other known Nomu. There's also a flashback to him as a child before he was transformed, so he was probably not dead when it happened. And might have been an artificial life form designed to take quirks from the start.
My guess is that you can get a smarter Nomu by using a living person (or perhaps a person who *just* died and thus none of their brain cells have rotted yet), but the reason for using corpses at all is that it's easier to stack not just one or two but potentially dozens of quirks on them that way. Kurogiri for example only has a single quirk (albeit a very strong one that was made by All-for-One fusing at least two quirks together). He also doesn't seem to have enhanced strength like all the later Nomu, or Super Regeneration which is apparently standard-issue for the black Nomu.
The idea that Shigaraki is basically being turned into a type of Nomu himself is interesting, though.
Isn’t a much simpler answer to Kurogiri is that much like The first user of OFA. When Oboro was given a quirk, his quirk was able to mix with the one he was given, meaning he still had his intelligence. After all, Kurogiri only has one quirk, Warp Gate. So it just makes sense that he still has his intelligence because he only has one quirk.

I think the reason why he is so much smarter is also because of Quick singularity. he has only maybe 2 quicks and not 6+. Add on that on top of the he might be alive at the time, but still, we dealing with less quicks
It also possible that that they lack the resources to make a lot of high end nomu so they only have the resources to make Kurukeri.
Perhap one of the quirks could be a resurrection. So even if the user is dead, they can come back to life, and for others provided there is still a functioning body in the of structure like a frankstain monster.

My theory for why kurogiri is so much more intelligent is that he only has one quirk even if it is a combination of several. Besides kurogiri has a more or less human anatomy. Edgeshot went inside him and didn't notice anything that he was a nomu. I think the difference is that kurogiri wasn't ever meant to fight, all for one made him only to take care of shigaraki.

Oboro did die years ago, but do we know when "Kurogiri" was "born"? My hypothesis is that Kurogiri was the first high-end nomu, a prototype, so simple it only has (kind of) one quirk. He was the start to the high-end project, the following Nomu of this group took more time to come because they are more complex, as they can have six simultaneous quirks
Edit: Also, the H-E Nomus presented to us now are not yet on their full potential, they're stil disoriented, as said by Daruma, maybe they get smarter when fully ready? Like, Kurogiri-smart

Shigaraki with the strength of a high end nomu plus the brain not to mention multiple quirks. It kinda makes sense why deku might need the other one for all users powers.
My take on the subject is that kuro is just shirakumo + quirks and the doctor didn't have the copy quirk thing perfect and used All 4 1, my theory is that the doctor had the sturdy rig of the high ends in mind.

I think Kurogiri is more advanced and intelligent than other Nomus because he was driven by heroic morals and wanted to be a hero. This allowed him to have a clear and pure mindset. The second reason is that his quirk isn't a power type quirk that corrupted him. It was a useful supporting tool.

I totally agree that Shirakumo was turned into Kurogiri when he was still alive, it makes sense. As for the other high end Nōmu, I think they were made from corpses, they have higher intelligence due to the progression in Ujiko’s research.
It just my theory (maybe rebuild an/or expand your theory) but what if inteligence of Nomu depends on how fast they preserve the brain. The later, the more brain cells die which cant be recoverd, the more brain function are disabled for good leaving only basics like motorics, instincts and following orders.

We all should know that that a high end nomu is going to turn to the good side because they will see shigaraki and simply see him as too dangerous(enemy of my enemy). Also my guess about Kurogiri is oboro was alive which allowed him to seem “normal” because oboro was brain dead or like you said the doctor and all for one were initially trying to make new quirks for nomu versus just putting multiple quirks into one body.
While watching this a question popped in my mind would Nine be considered a nomu? Maybe he was the second experiment to be made just like Kurogiri but while the person is still alive but not as healthy.
i mean nomus are made from corpses but under the assumption that anybody with multiple quirks is a nomu that would be nine deku wolfram all for one and now shiggy but i think nine was just a test to see how to stabilize all for ones quirk in another persons body
In the chapter the doctor said that AFO just used a copy of his own quirk against All Might.That means that Shigaraki will become the original All for One with all the quirks AFO ever took from someone. When Shigaraki wakes up he will become the ultimate symbol of Evil.
One thing I don't understand about the latest chapters is how is aizawa able to erase the high end nomu's quirks. We clearly saw in the usj arc that he wasn't able to erase a nomu's quirks so how is this possible?
He did erase its quirk, the only problem is it has the strength of ten shonen men and no brains. So shonen retard strength...

It might just be the natural ability/ side effect of the quirk user or something within their genome that was latent that is unlocked during the nomu proces 🤷🏽♂️
