I have the BC350c public service scanner. I use mine mainly for railway and aircraft monitering. Police and EMS in our area have long since gone to a digital system, so cannot be received.
I agree that the manual provided is a bit confusing. Your instructional video really helps!
Thanks for posting this!
That was helpful. Cheers. I didn't know how to use the band function, so I used my hand-held, two-way Baofeng radio to send a signal to the scanner using its close-call function, and programmed it into the private channel that way by just using the programme button and following the steps in the guide book. The frequency I wanted to put in was 145.800 MHz to see if I could pick up the International Space Station. So, I now know how to programme the unit manually, thanks to you.
It's an enjoyable wee scanner, though, and picks up good signals even with just the telescopic antenna attached that it came with in the box. I like the internal speaker for the type of mono acoustic sound it emits (There is something mysterious about it, which adds to the excitement), but I am waiting for a 5W external speaker to be delivered tomorrow. I'll see which I prefer then.
There is a couple of things I would have liked it to have. 1. When it scans, it doesn't display the frequencies it is scanning, which is something I would have liked to see. 2. The scan delay and close-call delay is only two seconds and can't be varied, which means if I am in the kitchen and I hear a the close-call alert, It takes me more than that time of two seconds to get to the scanner to place it on hold if it is a short transmission before it starts scanning again, which is a pity. I would have liked a variable delay that we can set to 2, 5 or 10 seconds. That would be sufficient time to get to the scanner before the frequency is lost. The way it is, we need the scanner to be close to us all the time if we are to catch the short transmissions and hold it to record the frequency. I do have my scanner set up on a wee table next to my favourite chair in my living room for such purposes. Often, though, the close-call alert triggers when I am in another room. I run it off of a Yuasa, 13.8 v, 7Ah battery, which means I can take the unit out hiking with me or out on my bicycle on dry days whenever I feel the notion to do so. I have a DC regulated power supply rigged up to charge the batter whenever it needs charged.
For the small price I paid for it, it is a fantastic wee scanner, though. 👍
You'll have noticed that I do like writing. 😁
This vid saved me but I will say that to anyone to has the problem in which when you hit program it says "Pr9-Loc", Hold Prgm for over 2.5 seconds and it should say the same msg but with off in front of it. This is a safety measure of uniden to prevent unintentional programming, any questions just PM me, Rob
Great instructional help!! How many "Private Banks" are available in this model? What is better or newer or whatever about THIS model, -vs- the BC350C version?
Exelent video. Good clear instructions. I have had this scanner for a few years and recently wanted to change some frequancies and couldn't remember how. Thanks for sharing.
Very useful. Explained much better than reading the user manual, Many thanks
I wish i knew really.....the problem is the makers of this digital encryption will not allow any maker of a scanner to put the technology in the scanner. I hope one day soon a scanner will be available bc scanning is a big part of my radio hobby. I am part of the SkyWarn weather team and being able to listen to emergency broadcast helps greatly with what i do when i comes to storm spotting and chasing.
WOW thank you very much for this, even though mine is a BC355N I guess it all programs the same. I had packed ip up and was getting ready to ship it back, when I thought about coming to RUclips to see if someone like you might have made a "how to" video! So you saved me from a lot of hassle! thanks a bunch!
I would rate this scanner as a starter scanner. It is not the best but yet is great for somebody getting into the hobby. It is you base level scanner for for newbie. Sadly this scanner is becoming phased out because many emergency services are changing over to digital encrypted radio service and at this time there is no scanner on the market that can decrypt the digital band.
@Thomas Biagiotti….The best way to is find out what freq. your local pd/fire use and hit the band button and locate what band they are using. I have noticed that the pre-programmed channels in the pd/fire are no longer used by those agencies anymore.
can you shut the orange light off or does it stay on? its easy to program after u figure it out. thank u for the video. It was very helpful for me.
is it simple to use for someone like me who doesn’t know much and if i choose not to program will it automatically pick up the police and fire around me. thanks 🙏
This was nice of you to show folks!! It is HARD to program scanners!!
Hi, I just got the same scanner today, I put the antenna in and set it up. I programmed it and put in my local FD frequency? The fees is coming out a little staticky and skips a little. I was wondering if you can help me out? Thanks.
so in essence, most frequencies are already thewre,it will just scan and pick up whatevers nearest your area?
Thanks buddy it's been a while since I programmed this thing.
Just bought this on E-bay for £69 can't wait for it to arrive!
Do you know the difference between this scanner and and bc355n? Besides the 10 dollar price difference.
Mine just came and just took it out of the box Ok I Don't have any programed in, question Can you just let scan until something comes and after it's done can it just back to scan until something comes so on and so on.So it just contentious scans? Thanks for Any information you can give me
It seems like one that would require a PC interface cable. Huh. So on a scale of 1-10 how would you rate this scanner compared to others?
Howdy!
Will my 355C lose its programming once the unit is unplugged from the power source?
I have my scanner programmed. But it will not stay on private it to scan just the ones I put in. How do I get it to Scan just the channels I want?
So if using this with a clear memory.....by scanning the police button will it automatically pic up frequencies or does it have to be programmed into the police button?
Hey bud, and whats the diffrence between your radio on the video and a the bearcat BC550A?. thanks..
great video, but how do you scan for the local pd/fd/emergency frequencies?
Bonjour,j'ai la même Uniden c'est cool ça fonctionne.
Merci d'avoir pensé à la faire connaître.
Je l'ai achetée à Sardif un magasin radio.
Salutations distinguées Dominique Chartier.
I am glad that i was able to help ya out. I am sorry about the end i was trying for it to scan the private band and was having a little trouble so i started presses buttons and forgot to explain what i was doing. Have a great day.
So I have the county sheriffs, the police, and the fire/EMS all are separate channels. Is there a way I can scan all 3 at the same time?
Hi there, can this device scan only the cb radio that are mounted on cars? I mean if there are multiple conversations on all the 40 channels can it identify the channel that is used to talk by different people around me? I mean something like. i set it to scan the 40 channels and if the first conversation is on channel 13 , the second is on channel 27, the third is on channel 39, supposing they're not all at the same time can i hear all of them?
How do you listen to just what you put in,I hit private an it scans stuff I didn't put in
I have a old Uniden bearcat BC550A scanner, is the newer BC355N a much better scanner then the one I have now?
john savage i just bought my first scanner ever, its a BC550A, (used no manual)
is it a good scanner?.
did you liked yours? pros and cons?, any recomendation you have for me?,.
i had never owend a scanner before, i bought it to listen to cops and emergency responce personell, how far away will the scanner pick up signals from?.
thanks, please help.
I have the 450A model which is very close in programming to this unit in the video.
What is the Police button used for that the Private button doesn't also do ?
I will use my specific model for only four local channels always.
I just want mine to constantly scan all the local emergency frequencies. Do I need need to program all or can I just hit police and let it scan. When it finds someone talking it will stop. If it stops talking it will scan again. How do I get it to do that?
Everytime i scan my private frequencies, it scans frequencies that aren’t even in my private bank, how do i make it scan only my saved channels
thank you for this video,it helped alot. the uniden person from another video, did not cover information like you did. i will most likely get one.
+dan kizanis u are most welcome
Does it come with a Mobile bracket ?
So after I add the numbers I want I then press "private" followed by the two buttons to the right when I want to scan?
Do you programme other people's stuff if sow can i please have the address ..
I have a question I put in a 800 MHz frequency in that scanner but the scanner isn’t picking up that frequency. Do you think you can help me out with that?
Is there a way with this model that you can scan between two specified channels only out of your programmed one's. For instance if I wanted to scan between the fire and fire talk around frequencies?
Awesome Video.!!! i racked my brain trying to figure it out how to program this thing. Thanks...
When I press "Private" the scanner will scan through channels that I don't have programmed. How do I correct this?
What is the cb button for 9 pm April 9 2024
Is this scanner a digital scanner
OK so I have a question, I watched your video which helped me a lot, I got to the channels I wanted which is all of 3. now my question to you.is now that I have them saved I assumed I press the private button to scan through the 3 channels but when I hit that button other random channels come up. so my question is how do I scan through the 3 Channels I have saved?
LOCK OUT THE REST OF THEM
Thank You for your video. I can't find A station on the scanner. It is local. I do have it on a scanner app. Any suggestions
go to radio reference.com you can find and listen to local authorities in your area or out of state on line if you like.
I programmed it like this, I put them all into my private bank, but when I press private again to begin scanning, frequencies that I did not program come on. Why is that? I don't have that close call thing on either
Do you know where can I find more info about close call feature?
I just got one and when I press police and fire all I get is static locked in on channels and when I lock one out it goes to another channel with static? Any help?
Np glad u are having fun with the scanner hobby.
Good video made my scanner easy to program you know any good sites to get local numbers for my scanner?
What is the cb function for
How do I program the police freq
What is the Sq nob for?
Aaron Wickland to make the static noise go away. you wanna turn it til it stops, do not turn it all the way
if I put a wrong frequency for my private how can I remove it? or you cant? n yes this really helped me understand how to use it I just could not figure it out on the little paper it tells what to do....:)
May I ask if the scanner starts scanning again if left scanning when it was switched off? Reason is that I am looking for a scanner which easy to use for a blind friend of mine and it would make life easier for him. I understand that to have it start scanning the programmed channels all you have to do is press the private button really. Please confirm. Much obliged as this would make a great starter for this friend of mine.
It u left the private channel bank scanning before turning off then it will start scanning from the private bank.
Good advice thank you
@tjobcorp most police are in the 80mhz band. You do this by hitting the band button and selecting the 80Mhz band. The kicker is a lot of police have gone over to digital radios switch can not be picked up by any scanner.
does this scanner have trunking capabilities? thx
Thank you I have a list of locals I want to program in and I still ant get anything to come through if you can help id appreciate it much
How to find channel 176.9?
when will they be able to get one on the market? :-/
Is that computer programable, also?
how can I tell if my scanner is actually scanning. when I turn it on all I hear is static and that's about it
does this scanner bc355c have the ability to perform trunking?
thx/
was such a big help thanks for sharing!!
@songshadow it will not wipe the memory when you unplug it from a power source.
THANK YOU!!! JUST GOT THIS FROM A PAWN SHOP FOR $30.00 BUCKS. I TOO COULD NOT GET HOW TO WORK IT THANK'S. :)
thanks yep it works like a charm was getting ready to toss this one in the draw whit the rest of em ........cool beans
How can you save the frecuecies by Banks?
Holding the up button doesn't seem to work for me.
A great website to get local frequencies is radioreference there u will find every frequency for your local area.
Is it possible to name the frequencies and to upload them to the scanner from a PC?
No sorry
a good scanner, scan the CB band and has the function of signal intercept close and show it on the screen
Very useful, thanks. This is a great little scanner for the price!
I just bougth this one, have a question, most of time i use this to listen aviation frecuency, but sometimes i used to listen the police frecueny, all frecuencies that i found must be saved them on PRIVATE channel??? or can i save aviation channels on AIR/MRN frecuency?? (like if AIR/MRN were a bank)
I believe you can save them on AIR/MRN.
I was able to program in my local police on private but then when I hit private to scan my channels it gives me all kind of other bands police on private example my numbers are in 155.940 it gives me frequencies in the 400's and up
Barbara Rivas I figured out what I was doing wrong. I had it on private but also on pd/fd/ems
Thanks . I didnt waste my money after all
Thank you! Nicely presented and very helpful!
how do you remove a frequency that you programmed and dont want
You can't. You can only override it with another frequency.
Can you send me papers on how to program that bearcat 355c
Needs number buttons like the handheld
Cool and thank you for adding that information.
my bc350a says prg-loc. how do i get it off
How do you reset the private channles?
Bank what you say it's actually channel. Banks are those private etc...
Thanks !!!
this did help thank u
Definitely
all of my fire/police/ems frequencies are narrow-banded. is this capable of listening to narrowband? what is narrowband?
James Treimanis I believe narrow band is same as short band, CB is a short band so yes
Np, glad i was able to help.
Np, Glad i could help ya out.
All you can program is the control channel for the trunking system.
thank you very informative
the difference is really just features. The bc355c is a 800MHZ and the bc350a is not 800MHZ scanner.
@dot matrix This scanner goes for about 80-90 dollars based on where you look to buy it from.
krazyhippy try 40 bucks new.
Gimme a HOME PATROL!! Worth the 500 bucks!!
Thanks!
hey nice tut! :)
thank you
