I did think this race was rather uneventful, but this is how most of the old North Wilkesboro races were. We got to witness an old school style whoopin to the field, which is what made this race much more nostalgic.

It was about the crop of old school drivers not taking shit and being cut throat. Today, the drivers are modern. and it’s teammates and this engine group with this manufacture, etc Give me a break. We don’t want that type of nascar with snooze fest driving. We want lead changes and battling all over the race track. Kudos to the 5 team they gave him a rocket ship tonight, he drove it home. NASCAR has suffered from the utter stupidity of Brian France abandoning NASCAR's base fans by leaving tracks like North Wilkesboro in favor of boring ass intermediate tracks in his desire to make NASCAR more corporate. At least NASCAR is FINALLY figuring it out. The new car makes it possible for small teams to compete, which is why I'm a big fan of the new car. Keep giving us more short tracks, road courses, and DIRT races! Never forget that your history MATTERS ever again. Keep this track on the schedule as a reminder of the past... It's a priceless time capsule.

Larson and Elliott are probably the richest guys in the sport today, they have annual salaries of ~$10 million.
Granted, that's a lot, but over 36 races thats an average of $333,000 per race. So Larson just got himself a 3-race bonus, for one race's work. And thats for the biggest stars of today. Back in the old days, a million bucks meant a lot more financially, but the big stars also had much bigger paychecks. Dale Sr and Gordon had salaries that absolutely blow Elliott and Larson out of the water.
Imagine what a million bucks would be like for a small-team driver like McDowell or Stenhouse, who likely bring home about $400,000 a year. Thats 2.5 years of work in one race.

Uh what, wear was a huge part of this race and it showed very very early on

@@googlewontletmeuseacopypas5291 Must've looked away when they were showing it, or they were going pretty slow since it's a shorter track and I just didn't notice?

If you call an event that passing is rare, no matter where it’s at in the field a great race? Then you got exactly what tickles your fancy!!

Great race and it was good to see Suarez out front early too. Idc if all the wreckfest fans didn't like it, they don't like real racin' to begin with!

Idk what people are/were complaining about. It was a bit boring sure, but I thought the prestige of the track made up for it. Plus, you still could pass. I think it was more so the fact that there wasn't as many cars on track, and I think that in order for short tracks like Martinsville, Bristol, and NWB to work, there needs to be more lap traffic. The package didn't help by any means, but I don't think it hurt the racing product as much as other people would like to think. I lowkey kinda enjoyed the lack of drama. Also, I say all of this as someone who isn't even an old school fan (I started watching back in 2010/2011 as a kid).

Maybe I'll be wrong but a few months after this initial hype of NW opening back up, it'll die down significantly. Cars have gotten more powerful and tracks have gotten bigger, it'll make people yearn to watch the races on bigger tracks more than ever.

The people who make money off this sport are never going to say it's bad. Do not look to anyone in nascar to tell you the truth. Everyone from the track owners to the drivers to the media are in the pocket of nascar. People who are critical of the "sport" are penalized. Teams and drivers are never going to say its bad, because it's what sponsors are paying for. Media members will have there access limited or cut off if they are critical. Nascar doesn't grow because of these protectionist tactics. Nascar should be a lot bigger than it is but because it's always trying to satisfy sponsors and its afraid of negativity, it has isolated itself from reality.

I for one love the old school format and absolutely hate the stages as a fan. For the cars, drivers, and teams though, it can be a break they desperately need after a long run and i get that, but all too often it can also ruin their day if they get bunched up again and get wrecked.
