I did think this race was rather uneventful, but this is how most of the old North Wilkesboro races were. We got to witness an old school style whoopin to the field, which is what made this race much more nostalgic.

I actually really enjoyed this race, sometimes people need to understand that racing is not only about wreckin' and yellow flags all the time, IMHO It was a very successful event.
People that complain about the race being boring are the same ones who complain stage breaks ruined NASCAR. This kind of race is what stage breaks were designed to prevent. Make up your minds.
Stage cautions suck ass. But these cars also suck ass when it comes to short tracks. This outcome was entirely predictable, given how these cars raced on other small tracks.

The nineties was simply better because of the rivalries, it was less about that’s my teammate and hurt feelings and it was more about I’ll bump your ass and take you out if necessary. It was about the crop of old school drivers not taking shit and being cut throat. Today, the drivers are modern. and it’s teammates and this engine group with this manufacture, etc Give me a break. We don’t want that type of nascar with snooze fest driving. We want lead changes and battling all over the race track. Kudos to the 5 team they gave him a rocket ship tonight, he drove it home. But we need 5-7 rocket ships out there that have a chance to win. And tracks that allow passing.

The earlier race of the evening was a bit more eventful. All around great day to be at the track. Beautiful weather with a great crowd. Pretty cool to be part of the return of NASCAR to our small town! 👍
They are used to late race BS and constant restarts. This had the feel of an old school race where one car lapping the field was not uncommon. Good race, but the package kept it from being a great race.
Larson was running a line that was physically impossible for that car without bottoming out which is why no one could follow him. Blatant cheating. No other drivers even tried because there was no point. It was a parade.

I was at this race and the CARs tour race with Jr last August. It’s amazing how much transformative work has been done to update the track and the fine tune the parking strategy. My wife and I stayed for the entire race and didn’t have to wait in line to get out of our parking lot! The race would have been better if it were longer like the old Tyson or First Union 400s where pit stops were needed and tires and brakes actually wore out. But all in all a great event and I’ll buy tickets again if NASCAR puts it on the schedule next year. I’m actually excited to watch races again thanks to this track.
I couldn’t watch the race, so I picked Kyle Larson’s in car camera, turned on MRN and had a great time. I predicted this race would be as it was, but I also called that you needed to treat this like Old Bristol… one groove track, fight for position. Kyle smoked them!
Good to see North Wilkesboro back, they did a hell of a job cleaning it up and getting it back to racing conditions. It's a part of early NASCAR history and it needs to stay on the schedule this time.
It was a good race, but i do agree that a repave is much needed. The track surface is 40 years old and falling apart. giving it a repave will preserve it for another 40 years.
North Wilkesboro needs to be on the schedule EVERY year. NASCAR should have never left in the first place. NASCAR has suffered from the utter stupidity of Brian France abandoning NASCAR's base fans by leaving tracks like North Wilkesboro in favor of boring ass intermediate tracks in his desire to make NASCAR more corporate. At least NASCAR is FINALLY figuring it out. The new car makes it possible for small teams to compete, which is why I'm a big fan of the new car. Keep giving us more short tracks, road courses, and DIRT races! Never forget that your history MATTERS ever again. Keep this track on the schedule as a reminder of the past... It's a priceless time capsule.

So Larson just got himself a 3-race bonus, for one race's work. And thats for the biggest stars of today. Back in the old days, a million bucks meant a lot more financially, but the big stars also had much bigger paychecks. Dale Sr and Gordon had salaries that absolutely blow Elliott and Larson out of the water. Imagine what a million bucks would be like for a small-team driver like McDowell or Stenhouse, who likely bring home about $400,000 a year. Thats 2.5 years of work in one race.

I think it was more so the fact that there wasn't as many cars on track, and I think that in order for short tracks like Martinsville, Bristol, and NWB to work, there needs to be more lap traffic. The package didn't help by any means, but I don't think it hurt the racing product as much as other people would like to think. I lowkey kinda enjoyed the lack of drama. Also, I say all of this as someone who isn't even an old school fan (I started watching back in 2010/2011 as a kid).
Maybe I'll be wrong but a few months after this initial hype of NW opening back up, it'll die down significantly. Cars have gotten more powerful and tracks have gotten bigger, it'll make people yearn to watch the races on bigger tracks more than ever.

Everyone from the track owners to the drivers to the media are in the pocket of nascar. People who are critical of the "sport" are penalized. Teams and drivers are never going to say its bad, because it's what sponsors are paying for. Media members will have there access limited or cut off if they are critical. Nascar doesn't grow because of these protectionist tactics. Nascar should be a lot bigger than it is but because it's always trying to satisfy sponsors and its afraid of negativity, it has isolated itself from reality.
