Hey guys, thanks so much for giving us an in-depth look at these 2 awesome historical NASCAR venues & tracks (Rockingham & N. Wilkesboro). They’re literally a time capsule of NASCAR’s glory days and a very good status reference in the tragic event that they’re completely renovated beyond recognition or possibly even gutted for future mid-level NASCAR racing or even trucks/Xfinity down the road. These tracks have so much genuine historical importance and significance, it seems such a sad waste that today’s NASCAR executives haven’t spent the money or even taken a moment to invest in it’s really cool history. It’s a shame they only focus on “forward,” but there are MILLIONS of us old-timers that refuse to allow them to disrespect their glorious “checkered” past. I collect historically important NASCAR memorabilia, and I know I’m not alone. We can NEVER forget where the sport came from if we’re ever going to support where it’s going! This video is absolute gold! I was so excited to wake up and watch this. I've been waiting and praying for years to see the revival of the North Wilkesboro Speedway.🏁
I have soooo many memories of going to this track when I was a kid.. My parents, other family members and my best friend would usually leave Friday and go camp for the weekend. Ive been to a lot or races growing up and throughout my years but I can say 100% without a doubt the most fun I/we ever had was at North Wilkesboro.. after the race was over on Sunday I couldnt wait for that gate to open so we could run down on the track and to the infield to try and get pictures and autographs... The first time I ever saw/got to meet Richard Petty was there.. He was setting in the covered garage there in the infield in a metal fold out chair signing autographs... I was probably like 10-12 years old and its a vivid memory I will NEVER forget... I have a ton of old pictures that we took there, now I need to try to find and dig them out lol. Thank you for doing things like you are!
I was raised in north Wilkesboro and I went h there form 84 till it closed the place is amazing. Looks the same now .. i miss that place so much so sad coming down 421 pass jr Johnson’s old place and seeing this place brings back memories
Ronald Queen does a good job of telling the history of the speedway, I got to work with him at CRS for five and a half years until he went back home to the speedway
I really love what you two are doing with this history stuff. I grew up in racing with my friends. We raced at many different tracks in the southeast. Back then I didn’t realize the historical significance of all the tracks we raced. But today looking back it seems to mean so much to me to have been around those places and to be in the presence of those that have become my greatest hero’s. It was great to see Wilkes Speedway, it brought back many memories. I was born and raised in Taylorsville, still live here, right between Wilkes Speedway and Hickory Speedway and I love seeing young folks taking huge interest in their history. Keep up the great work and by all means, take good care of that awesome young lady you have by your side. So much respect to you both. Monnie. P.S. you should come to Taylorsville and interview the many racing legions that are still here. Rex White lives just down the road from me, Harry Gant is still our local hero. And there are many more.
@@Stapleton42 I’ve talked with Harry several times. I used to see him around town some but haven’t in recent years. He’s actually a cousin to my Brother in law and my Dad and uncles used to race him back in the days. Harry always had the expensive and fastest cars. :-) He’s a supper nice guy and if you can contact him I’m sure he’d love to talk to you. I can tell you where he lives, you might could just drop by for a visit. He’s just a home town guy here and acts as humble as anyone.
It’s incredible that years later this legendary race track was the essentials of NASCAR racing in the early days and seeing as if this has been revisited is like having Your old childhood being revisited this is one of the perfect examples of why NASCAR history always interests me when it comes to seeing these videos.
Loved the video Been lucky enough to go down and experience it myself a couple times got to meet the Great Paul Call and he took us In the track last year and showed us around and I loved getting to hear his stories he’s truly a legend behind the scenes of NASCAR in my mind he let me bring my mustang down last July to take pictures instead the truck because they started cleaning anyways up got some killer pictures then we made the trip back down last week for the open house day loved seeing what they have done to the place and can’t wait to go down in August to see some races! Thanks for the video I love all the old NASCAR history videos y’all make!!
I remember watching that last race and thinking how sad. When you show the spot where Betty Parsons used to sit it took me back. I completely remember extremely well watching.
Y'all are livin the dream and we are so fortunate for y'all to bring us along. I bet ole Junior Johnson is smiling somewhere watching this all unfold. Thank yall for this gem.
Last year I was able to walk around this track. I live 25 minutes away and being able to call this my home town track is amazing the amount of history you feel when driving up to the place is overwhelming I love it ❤
Me and my brother have been talking for years about Nascar returning to this track. Awesome coverage! Hope they keep as much of it original as they can.
Really enjoy your video's, keep up the good work! Stuff like this specifically, documenting history from day's past. When the last Winston Race happened at this track I was 33 years old. Priceless that you where able to get a guided tour from someone that was around back in the day, that really knows the history.
Thank you for documenting the history of this place before the restoration. It's cool seeing the remains of the original buildings and hearing the history of everything. Glad to see Wilkesboro finally being restored and used for racing again.
Excellent! I was a kid all through the 90s and like many others I'm nostalgic for that era of NASCAR. Went to Pocono and Dover a few times back in the day. Watched Mark Martin win at Dover and Jeff Gordon dominate, leading nearly all 500 laps also at Dover. I use to go to Walmart on Saturday mornings with my grandparents and I would always get a 1:64 scale Racing Champions diecast car. I have a whole box of them in storage in unopened packages from 1996/1997. Thanks for bringing the viewers all the great content! Always looking forward to more!
I just remembered this and have to add this comment onto the Dover race that Jeff Gordon nearly lead all 500 laps. We sat off of turn 2 near that walkway that goes over the track. I use to get mad that Jeff Gordon won so much back in the 90's, so I wasn't a fan as a kid back then. (I dont mind him now). Anyway there was this lady sitting near us that was all decked out in Gordon apparel and she would stand up and wave a checkered flag what seemed like almost every lap of the race. To say the least I was annoyed for basically the whole race with Gordon out front all day and that lady waving her damn flag. I felt like she was mocking me. I was just a kid so I never said anything, but gosh that was a long day for me. lol!!
North Wilkesboro was a great place to go and see drivers and announcers up close.I mean I went by the booth with Ned Jarrett and company. Was in the infield 50 feet from Kyle Petty and other team members
The First Union 400 was the first race I ever went to back in 1996. I was 21 and In college. Me and 4 other college friends came up Saturday night to camp across the 421 bridge near the track. I was instantly hooked on NASCAR. I love your videos documenting the sport’s history.
I was 22 in 1996. I wish I could go back just for one more sunday race on TV. ;) I love what you're bringing here. Seeing it from this perspective with a guided history lesson is just too awesome. Thanks so much. You're are definitely one of my favorite youtubers.
I remember watching that last race in 1996, so awesome wish the Cup series would return to its roots and bring back Winston and other tobacco sponsorships.
I really hope some of the original buildings are preserved to what they are now to showcase the history for people to enjoy as a attraction to the track. Keep it non cookie cutter like the rest of the tracks have become. Keep it a time capsule as much as you can within reason.
I’m actually from North Wilkesboro this is the first time I’ve seen y’all channel it was awesome to see the history of that track before it gets remodeled I’ve been there once when I was younger they held a whole day of racing before closing it permanently. It really makes me really excited for it to be reopened in August and October then finish the rest before 2023. Thanks for the video on everything about history to have something to keep some of the history I knew about some I didn’t.
That's awesome of Greg to give you one of his old shirts from back in the day! Loved watching that episode, Greg seemed like a kid in a candy store being back in that old shop. It's cool to see folks trying to show others a unique piece of history before it's gone or forgotten entirely. Another great video! Looking forward to the next one
As I get older and my mobility isn't as good as it was I really appreciate y'all doing these history videos so I can see how things were back in the early era of Nascar... Love it !
Really enjoyed the behind the scenes tour of North Wilkesboro track! I have driven by the track several times in the past couple years visiting a relative in route to App State. Your doing a great job presenting the history of NASCAR. Keep up the Great work!
Well done, you two! Loved the video. Been there back in 2005 and looked around, I think the gentlemen you toured with, I was shown around by his uncle back in 2005. What a cool experience. I wish NASCAR would understand that there is a segment of fans (late 40 yr old's to people in their 70's and 80's) that would love the old school vibe and do not need luxury suites and high dollar amenities. People would pay a fortune to see a NASCAR race again at the speedway and be able to just hang out in one of the old suites. NASCAR is clueless nowadays. Cheers to seeing another NASCAR event at North Wilkesboro!!!
FREAKING AWESOME yet again. Thx for the tour and to the ol man for showing you around and the stories he could tell ! Glad your girl enjoys the stuff as well, makes it more fun to share the adventures with. Thx for this, and I was 16 in 95. My man Gordon was killing it back then. 👏
Such a cool piece of NASCAR history. Glad to see it’s making a comeback and hoping they keep a lot of the track history alive as some things need to be renovated.
I had to stay in North Wilkesboro for a week on a business trip for Lowe's in 1989. As a lifelong race fan, I made it a priority to stop at the race track while in town. When I pulled into the parking lot, I was excited to find Enoch Staley washing the concrete walkway in front of the ticket office with a water hose. I asked for his autograph and he was amazed that someone my age (22) would recognize him. He took me into the ticket office where his sister was working and bragged to her that he was signing autographs. He then proceeded to take me back to the cinder block portion which was his personal office. It was filled with photos, newspaper clippings, and lots of other memorabilia. He spent 2 hours flipping through scrapbooks and telling stories. It was a very memorable day for me. Your video brings back great memories of that day.
Thank you Mitchell and Logan. I love your passion that you put into all your content, whether it is racing history or your builds. Thank you so much from the UK
For as many years as the track has been left "vacant," its pretty amazing to see how good of shape some of the buildings are in. It's definitely sad to see some of the structures in the condition that they are, but I'm really excited to see what they do with the facility! Would love to see some races there someday. Not to mention (this might be a long shot) but would love to see a Cup race there in the future!
Cannot explain how much I love this video. Must admit I only heard about and started following North Wilkesboro since they scanned it for iRacing. In 1996 I was 13 years old, but all the way over here in Australia not even knowing. We had the Calder Park Thunderdome with NASCAR & local categories that is now in worse shape than here. Can't wait for the follow up videos during the renovations 😁 Hope you guys can attend the races in August so share some footage too 🤞 As always, love your work Mitch & Logan 🙏
Dude. To think I found your channel going down the boom tube exhaust rabbit hole(just cause I wanted to learn history of that sound). I love all the history videos.
West TN here. Found yall a couple weeks ago in suggested videos. Watched all your NASCAR videos. Keep em coming. Also, I was 14 or 15 the last time Cup ran there.
To answer one of your questions, I was 31 years old when they had the last race at Wilkesboro Speedway, Super awesome video. As always love your channel !
I was 17 and I was very sad that it was the last race at north Wilkesboro. For me it kinda was the start of a slow down in watching nascar. As you could see what was coming with the money going elsewhere when it should have stayed here the whole time. If nascar come back to north Wilkesboro I hope they stay until there is no more nascar.. It is sweet to see that they have pretty much a full schedule for August and October of 2022..
I was four years old when Jeff Gordon won the final Cup race. I don’t personally remember it but I went back and watched it on RUclips and it was a wonderful race. Many drivers and broadcasters were very open about how upset they were that it was being taken off the schedule.
This is so cool! I went to the 1991 fall race. I almost got to see Mr. September himself Harry Grant try to win 5 races in a row. He almost did it but his brakes started fading at the end and Dale Sr. won the race. Still was a cool moment. Keep up the great work with the historical videos.
To see that the track and buildings are in such good shape is amazing, it was like a snapshot locked in time. I appreciate that you take the time to document the history of NASCAR and do it in a way that even the newest of fans can understand. Your attention to detail is unmatched by other videos I've watched. It was a shame you couldn't turn a lap in the Monte, but it made so awesome pictures on the start finish line. So any plans on the next track to document? Thanks again for keeping history alive.
Yeah Mitchell, I turned 50 back in ‘96 and my oldest son told me I had officially achieved old man status. Wasn’t much into the NASCAR racing but enjoyed the local dirt tracks. My main interest was NHRA until they got so commercial it became hard to watch. Got rid of satellite tv and got into watching RUclips and people like you and Logan. Been around since before you got the Newell.
Born and raised in Norway, never really knew about Nascar growing up but these tracks you're visiting even I've heard of. As a fellow history and knowledge nerd I love this stuff. Keep on the good work as always :)
I was at the last Winston Cup race here. Being from Daytona, it was crazy how small the track was compared to DIS. Still the only short track I have ever been to. Stopped by a few weeks ago when visiting family in Statesville and was so nice to see work being done.
I spent time growing up going races twice a year at North Wilkesboro Speedway. My dad raced dirt track before I was born. I can remember back in mid 60’s seeing all the drivers bring their cars in on the old open trailer with tires on a pipe stretch across the front of trailer. We use to go in the infield at day break and dad back up to the fence the kids would play football in the infield until it got crowded. One of my memories is all the driver’s sitting on the back of their cars signing autographs after the race . Richard Petty would sign autographs until the last person. I have pictures I took from a 110 camera from the infield going into the 3rd turn Cale Yarborough driving the #11 and Dale Earnhardt Sr. Driving the Blue and yellow #2 for Mike Curb racing. this was 1978 or 1979. It took a while but both drivers autographed it. Great memories. Glad you guys are videoing the track as it was the last race that I was at. Glad to see it will be a race track again.
When North Wilkesboro closed, I was 25 years old and was livid about them closing down this track. There were so many better choices to take away dates or have a few more tracks with one date to keep this track operating. They were too worried about fair weather markets and the money and basically crapped on the faithful. I'm glad the track is coming along.
I agree totally I live near Newton NC where Dale Sr dealership is so going to the NW races was a fun easy trip to watch some great races. First one ever was the race that made me fall in love with Dale Sr aggressive racing style and I was his fan till the end and still am. I posted above so won't post my whole Dale Sr experience again but it was awesome that day I 1989 until Ricky rudd spun he and Dale out and Geoff Bodine went on to win the race. But when Bruton Smith I believe bought Wilkesboro I knew it wasn't good.i new it was going to be the end because he owned Charlotte motor speedway and Atlanta I think too and want more 1/2 mile tracks and needed the dates to do so. It crushed alot of southeast fans that loved Wilkesboro racetrack racing. Devastated north Wilkesboro to lose there races and track like that.Bruton Smith became a hated man back in the late 80's and 90's.. So don't no the whole story about it reopening and what there going to ha e there again but it's great to hear anyways.
I’m new to the channel, absolutely ❤️the content! Thank you both for making this as well as the rest of the videos that y’all upload about these old/abandoned race tracks. These are tracks that have a special place in all of our heart’s! Thank you much and keep up the excellent work!🏁🏁
As a fellow monte carlo owner, i salute your first gen monte. Im a proud owner of a second gen (it was my first car & i still have it). Of course i love the first gen, and everyone hated the 2.5 gen like i have. Thanks for fighting your way into these old places, we appreciate it a lot!
It’s sooooooo cool to see all those buildings just as they were in the 90s and earlier. Thanks for documenting all of this. Honestly I wish they would leave as much of it in tact as they possibly can.
I hope so too cause there's nothing like that racetrack. I was there in the '90s. Just listening to the stories brought back memories and the way racing was. I just don't like the way NASCAR is now with all the stages.
Love your videos. I'm from WI and grew up going to Artgo and ASA races in the late 70's and 80's. As kid i met all he greats who came through La Crosse, Martin, Wallace Waltrip, Allison, Senneker and of course Jim Sauter and Dick Trickle who were regulars at La Crosse . So Many memories. Thanks for keeping the history alive!
You can just tell how much emotion this guy is feeling right now talking about all of this. As for you, you've definitely filled a nitch spot of documenting nascar history that doesn't get shared enough. Before long you'll be in with the Nascar president and maybe have a small spot inside the Nascar hall of Fame.
Thanks so much for doing these history of the race track videos. I know there was a big push in NASCAR to go to newer and bigger tracks.. I am glad to hear they are returning some of the racing to their roots. Thanks again.
The amount of pride this gentleman takes in the facility is rare and enviable. You just don't get guys like that anymore.
It’s such a passion for him. Absolutely awesome.
I noticed that. He was even doing things like closing the cupboard doors to make it look better.
Absolutely well put!👍🏻

I was probably like 10-12 years old and its a vivid memory I will NEVER forget... I have a ton of old pictures that we took there, now I need to try to find and dig them out lol. Thank you for doing things like you are!
That’s awesome man! You’re welcome we’re just glad you’re here to enjoy it with us!
Ronald was great, guys like that are as honest, and down to earth as a person can be.
I was raised in north Wilkesboro and I went h there form 84 till it closed the place is amazing. Looks the same now .. i miss that place so much so sad coming down 421 pass jr Johnson’s old place and seeing this place brings back memories
Rocking the Gargoyles! I still have mine from the 90s.
We really want to talk to Harry
You’re absolutely right Morgan. I feel that way about Rockingham since I actually witnessed it when I was little
@@Stapleton42 huh that’s very interesting
Loved the video Been lucky enough to go down and experience it myself a couple times got to meet the Great Paul Call and he took us In the track last year and showed us around and I loved getting to hear his stories he’s truly a legend behind the scenes of NASCAR in my mind he let me bring my mustang down last July to take pictures instead the truck because they started cleaning anyways up got some killer pictures then we made the trip back down last week for the open house day loved seeing what they have done to the place and can’t wait to go down in August to see some races! Thanks for the video I love all the old NASCAR history videos y’all make!!
Thanks man that’s awesome
I remember watching that last race and thinking how sad. When you show the spot where Betty Parsons used to sit it took me back. I completely remember extremely well watching.
Y'all are livin the dream and we are so fortunate for y'all to bring us along. I bet ole Junior Johnson is smiling somewhere watching this all unfold. Thank yall for this gem.
Thanks man
The 80s were comfy. Family was still important. No drugs or internet. Just life. Wish we could go back
Last year I was able to walk around this track.
I was just a kid so I never said anything, but gosh that was a long day for me. lol!!
I went to 2 races there in the early 90,s Holly Farms 400 and the truck race with D W and Ernie Irvin. That race had close to 30,000 race fans
@@terrybrown9206 I'm sure it was a sight to see. I would've liked to be there!
North Wilkesboro was a great place to go and see drivers and announcers up close.I mean I went by the booth with Ned Jarrett and company. Was in the infield 50 feet from Kyle Petty and other team members
The truck race was one. of the best sporting events I have been a part of in the last 25 y8
The First Union 400 was the first race I ever went to back in 1996. I was 21 and In college. Me and 4 other college friends came up Saturday night to camp across the 421 bridge near the track. I was instantly hooked on NASCAR. I love your videos documenting the sport’s history.
That’s awesome man we are just glad you’re here with us for it
I was 17 when the last race was run there. I would love to go explore these old tracks with you guys. The history is so simple, yet so intriguing.
I was 17 and thank you for going to these lost tracks looking for the history of the tracks.
I was 22 in 1996. I wish I could go back just for one more sunday race on TV. ;) I love what you're bringing here. Seeing it from this perspective with a guided history lesson is just too awesome. Thanks so much. You're are definitely one of my favorite youtubers.
Thanks man!!
I remember watching that last race in 1996, so awesome wish the Cup series would return to its roots and bring back Winston and other tobacco sponsorships.
The Monte Carlo looked so good sitting on the track! Had to be a bucket list moment. 👍
Absolutely was awesome
Thanks Austin!!
Thanks man we are doing the best we can!
Thank you so much for doing this! Wow!
Thanks man we appreciate you!
Man that’s awesome
Thank you Mitchell and Logan. I love your passion that you put into all your content, whether it is racing history or your builds. Thank you so much from the UK
Saw many great races here in the 70's. Brings back a lot of memories.
Thanks dude we are glad you’re here! You’re into the same stuff we are 💪🏻
Same way I got to the channel haha! That fuckin' classic NASCAR sound is something else aint it..
Moar of these stories pleeese. So cool!
In 1996, I wasn’t even born yet! Cool video, I love hearing about the history of things.
Absolutely is! Most of this stuff happened before we were born too lol
I live a few miles from this track, I remember when it was a big deal for our county, I hope it comes back bigger than before‼️🤞💯🇺🇸
This is so cool! I went to the 1991 fall race. I almost got to see Mr. September himself Harry Grant try to win 5 races in a row. He almost did it but his brakes started fading at the end and Dale Sr. won the race. Still was a cool moment. Keep up the great work with the historical videos.
My daughter lived there several years ago and I drove around it our last visit before she moved home, man it was sad but so happy they brought it back
To see that the track and buildings are in such good shape is amazing, it was like a snapshot locked in time.
Thanks Jamie! No idea what will be next. I’m sure we can make some laps once they have a waiver available for us to sign
Yea looking at all the pics sure thought all the buildings were in bad shape
A Return to Prominence!! WOW!! This is Tremendous Memorabilia!!
That is one old school looking NASCAR track I remember the Winston Cup Series plus I was 11 years old when the track close
Thanks to you and your honey for taking the time to document the track. And yes hand letter it.
Thanks man that’s awesome insight we really appreciate that!
Born and raised in Norway, never really knew about Nascar growing up but these tracks you're visiting even I've heard of. As a fellow history and knowledge nerd I love this stuff. Keep on the good work as always :)
Thanks man we appreciate you
I was at the last Winston Cup race here. Being from Daytona, it was crazy how small the track was compared to DIS. Still the only short track I have ever been to. Stopped by a few weeks ago when visiting family in Statesville and was so nice to see work being done.
Thanks for reserving nascar history the way y'all do really awesome
Thank you Adrian! We appreciate your support
Thank you both for doing this. I can't imagine how much work this takes but I really appreciate it.
Thanks Donald!
Man. That’s awesome. What a memory
Seems the thing they do. Not realizing these tracks made racing into what it was.
I have been a NASCAR fan since 1994. I love all the history of our sport.
I’m new to the channel, absolutely ❤️the content! Thank you both for making this as well as the rest of the videos that y’all upload about these old/abandoned race tracks. These are tracks that have a special place in all of our heart’s! Thank you much and keep up the excellent work!🏁🏁
Thanks dj welcome to the team!
Never had a reply that quick!!🏁
As a fellow monte carlo owner, i salute your first gen monte. Im a proud owner of a second gen (it was my first car & i still have it). Of course i love the first gen, and everyone hated the 2.5 gen like i have. Thanks for fighting your way into these old places, we appreciate it a lot!
I’d definitely would like to be at the first truck race. If they ever get the truck series back here.
It’s sooooooo cool to see all those buildings just as they were in the 90s and earlier. Thanks for documenting all of this. Honestly I wish they would leave as much of it in tact as they possibly can.
thanks man!!
I hope they keep North Wilksboro as much like it was in the 80s and 90s as possible
I hope so too cause there's nothing like that racetrack. I was there in the '90s. Just listening to the stories brought back memories and the way racing was. I just don't like the way NASCAR is now with all the stages.
They plan to No Reason to go crazy with the renovations
Love your videos. I'm from WI and grew up going to Artgo and ASA races in the late 70's and 80's. As kid i met all he greats who came through La Crosse, Martin, Wallace Waltrip, Allison, Senneker and of course Jim Sauter and Dick Trickle who were regulars at La Crosse . So Many memories. Thanks for keeping the history alive!
Man what an era to witness. We’re glad you’re here mark!
Thanks man we are glad you’re here!
I can only imagine how expensive its gonna be to redo all these buildings...hopefully it pays off for Nascar!
ALL the old tracks need to come back!!
Another AWESOME vid dude 🤘
