    *Skeletor's origins:* *Mini-comics -* *1)* Keldor, brother of King Randor, was messing about with some magic one day. *2)* Keldor got sucked into a parallel universe, where he met a race of skull headed people. *3)* The skull headed people did magic on him to assimilate him into one of their own kind, turning him into the skull headed Skeletor. *4)* "The Great wars" happened, and opened a portal between the skull head world and Eternia. *5)* Skeletor fell through the portal into Eternia, once again. *Filmation cartoon -* Skeletor was a demon from another dimension who crossed over into Eternia. *200X cartoon -* Keldor, half brother of King Randor gets his face melted off in a fight. Hordak then makes him into Skeletor.

    • @samwilliams6617
      @samwilliams6617 Год назад +1

      technically. they could all be true. as Keldor he may in fact was babbling in magic and discovered Hordak. The race of skull headed people could be the horde. Hordak trained him in magic and they teamed up to fight the great war against his own brother. Keldor got injured in the great war and fled. Randor believes that his brother is dead and he has no clue that Keldor didn't die. Hordak used magic on his injuries and Skeletor as we know him is the end result

    • @The_Cosmic_Yog-Sothoth
      @The_Cosmic_Yog-Sothoth Год назад

      @@samwilliams6617 Nah, the race of skull headed people look just like Skeletor, in the first minicomic. There's no indication of them being the horde. Infact that was long before the Evil horde, or Keldor were even thought of. I think each universe is pretty much it's own thing, I only allow authorial intent and some retcons, rather than mashing canon from different timelines. Good try, all the same lol.

      I mean, most people are familiar with the original cartoon, and barely at that, seeing him as a largely ineffectual villain who always fails. When one looks into the kinds of things he was actually doing in detail though, a lot of his plans were really sinister if they would have succeeded.
      If both the writers and audience can be convinced to take him seriously, he would be a genuinely terrifying villain.

      Going by what we know from the Filmation programs, Skeletor was with the Horde up until being abandoned by Hordak on Eternia. Hordak then went to Etheria, where Shadow Weaver betrayed the planet to the Horde in exchange for her powers. So, no. At least, not in Filmation continuity. 😊

    • @daviddaniels4020

      The rock was Etherium.
      That was _The Horde_, published by Golden Books. Skeletor gets out his supply of Etherium for another attack on He-Man, only to draw Hordak's attention. It's presented as He-Man's first encounter with Hordak and the Horde, and--as you said--has Skeletor as an Etherian peasant under Hordak's tutelage who got too far ahead of himself and was changed "into a living skeleton" by the Etherium. 😊

    It was possible to fit the Keldor Origin _as we knew it in the 80s_ with the Filmation series--I did it myself, and there were other ways to do it that others have tried. But the Keldor story as developed by 200X, Classics, and subsequent material ... that doesn't work.
    You can also reconcile Snake Mountain--built by King Hiss and the Snake Men, recorded in the Golden Disks, fell into ruins after King Hiss left, the ruins taken by Hordak as his base during his invasion of Eternia, and reconstructed after the old model by Skeletor after Hordak was banished to Etheria.
    One thing that only shows up in obscure material and has never been fully developed is the implication that the Sorceress not being able to find Adora _was Skeletor's fault._ A lot of material refers to Skeletor having trapped Hordak in another dimension, and the story "The Coming of Hordak" in the Summer 1985 issue of the US magazine makes it explicit that Skeletor closes the gate behind Hordak as the Ruthless Leader flees with Adora.

      Actually having a warlord Keldor origin for Skeletor would work better in the Filmation continuity because it would make sense for the Space Horde to recruit some local thugs to assist with the planet invasion. But doing a skull face transformation in an ancient Hordak temple doesn't work because Filmation Space general Hordak is very different from 80's minicomic/2002 ancient evil warlord Hordak. Upfront I despise the idea of 2002 warlord Keldor being Randor's brother because it was just a homage reusing the name but the DC comics "classics" continuity mashes that up. However if a Filmation human alchemist Keldor dabbled in some magic and got merged with a demon in another dimension (or prehistoric Eternia like the 80s minicomics were implying) - that would work too - though I think it makes the universe small and it really is unnecessary

However I can see how there are holes in the story but in the documentary "the power of grayskull" they even tell you that they started doing the comic books with the action figures just to do them. I had my own story that to me made sense without really changing anything just filled in holes. Like how maybe skeletor came to eternia in the midst of a Civil War of sorts, perhaps even when the Horde makes their presence known for the first time and Hordak, seeing skeletors potential as a powerful ally and his skill in dark magic takes him in etc etc.

    There was this unwritten rule back in the 80s that the comic book *had* to be different then the animated cartoon for whatever series you are talking about. G.I. Joe was different in the comics than the cartoon, the Transformers comic book was a good bit different than the cartoon and so on and so on. I think this was done so that the same stories weren't rehashed, and writers can get away with more edgier stories in the comics then the heavily regulated Saturday morning cartoon which also served as a commercial for that toyline. And of course, the live-action feature length movie is always going to be vastly different then your beloved 80s toyline, usually much to the chagrin of the fans.

      Masters of the Universe has had multiple histories since Halperin and Scheimer put together the series bible while ignoring the Glut/Alcala minicomics (if not earlier). You could spackle most of the 80s versions together if you needed to, but 200X was too definitive and self-contained to be folded in. Unfortunately, Classics tried and has produced a mess, and that seems to be governing a lot of things going forward.
