    Another very interesting and informative video, Tamara. You always give the feeling that you really want to help your viewers, not just use your viewing figures to make money from RUclips. Keep up the good work, and thank you!

    I thought the go pros already had stabilization built in.

    • @TamaraGabrielUK
      @TamaraGabrielUK  Год назад

      They do, but the stabilisation doesn’t work in low light because the shutter speed is slower, which is also the case when using ND filters.

    At this “stage in my development” as a vlogger, I see no need for a gimbal. Image stabilization on my GoPro 10 is great for my use case. And the Volta + Media Mod setup is working out really good for my use case also. It seems that you prefer using a connected mic rather than wireless? I prefer wireless and have been using the Comica BoomX-D1 but will probably switch to their Vimo C3 mainly because of the charging case! (Did we notice you climbing over a small barricade at 4:04 in? The gate was closed, doesn’t that mean no entrance? 😂)

    • @TamaraGabrielUK
      @TamaraGabrielUK  Год назад +3

      Yeah, I’ve always preferred shotgun mics, though I use wireless ones when I’m not going to be near the camera.
      😂 That thing I climbed over is a Stile. They’re everywhere in the countryside to provide a right of way on a footpath. The main gate is closed so that cattle in the field can’t escape and also to stop people driving in the field too I guess. But yeah, it just provides access to the footpath.

      Do you find yourself switching from one to the other a lot? It would seem to be a hassle.

    • @TamaraGabrielUK
      @TamaraGabrielUK  Год назад +1

      No, it’s usually if I know I’m going to have my camera stationary somewhere knowing that I’m going to be walking away from the camera or turning away from it, that’s when I use the wireless mic instead of a shotgun mic. But I usually know this ahead of filming as I plan my videos.

    Looks pretty wintry there - you should move to Australia! I find that EIS low light problems most obviously manifest themselves when there are artificial light sources in the frame, which leads to very obvious artifacts around them when you move. But using a gimbal without EIS as well can sometimes give jittery results if the gimbal can't stabilise micro vibrations. So sometimes you have to manually up the shutter speed and accept higher iso noise to get the best compromise, with or without a gimbal. I guess the bottom line is, don't shoot in the English winter! :)

      Hey 👋🏾 Thanks for subscribing. I personally love the HERO11 it’s my main camera when out and about, I know a lot of people have trouble with GoPros, but I myself haven’t had the same issues. The DJI Action 3 is cheaper, really nice to use, the video quality isn’t quite as high as the HERO11 but it’s still really good. And then there’s also the DJI Pocket 2. If you go to my channel page you’ll see a playlist called Gear Comparisons so it might help looking at a couple of videos in there to get an idea of what might work best for you.
      I’m of Dominican descent 😊

    Another useful and informative vid! Thanks Tamara, I had not thought about a gimble in low light conditions. The quality drops significantly in low light! I think a lot of people do expect too much of a GoPro as a stand alone unit as it's not the same as a SLR camera. But you wouldn't take a SLR camera where a GoPro can go.🤔

    I need to buy a gimbal. I rely sometimes too heavily in the built in stabilization and it doesn’t always cut it. I don’t use audio from my videos that often so I’d be good to go. This was very helpful!

    Thanks Tamara - a really good video. I have a quick question about the gimbal you use with the GoPro - is it just a case of attach the camera and that's it, or is there a balancing procedure? a couple of years ago, I used a Zhiyun Crane M2 with my Sony RX100 M6, but the thing was such a faff to balance, I got rid of it (not the RX100). I'm now thinking that an Osmo action/GoPro with gimbal would be the way to go. I'm not too bothered about a mic, as I tend to record ground footage without sound, which I then cut in alongside drone video.

    • @TamaraGabrielUK
      @TamaraGabrielUK  Год назад

      Nope, no balancing needed. And this Hohem iSteady Pro 4 is no faff (I hate faff, haha, which is why I love it), you just unhook the clip, put the camera on, clip it back and that’s it, takes seconds ruclips.net/video/YgWZzgV2TsE/видео.html

    Hi Tamara. I was always led to believe that when using ND Filters you need a gimball because the stabilisation does not work correctly and gets confused resulting in wobbly footage. Are you saying that it can be used with ND Filters and a gimbal?

  • @robertconrad6802

    recommending someone use a gimbal on a gopro is just silly imo. it is fitting the circle peg in the square hole. that gimbal could fund the better part of a dji pocket 2 ... one of my favorite creators said something along the lines of "if anyone recommends you use a gimbal for your action camera, just unfollow them"
    maybe a bit extreme but I understand the sentiment.

    • @TamaraGabrielUK
      @TamaraGabrielUK  Год назад

      I disagree. The Pocket 2 is too fragile for some shooting scenarios and if you’re the type of person that vlogs but also needs something rugged and more durable (or something that could just be an all rounder) but you can only afford one camera, then an action camera is a no brainer.

    • @robertconrad6802
      @robertconrad6802 Год назад

      @@TamaraGabrielUK sorry, I am suggesting instead of buying a gimbal for your action camera you take that money and buy a dji pocket 1 or 2. the cost is not that far apart but you get a full second camera on a gimbal, f1.8, larger sensor, af and it is smaller than the entire gimbal for an action camera. in my scenario you would just own 2 cameras instead of putting money into an action camera gimbal

    • @TamaraGabrielUK
      @TamaraGabrielUK  Год назад

      I hear you, but buying a Pocket 1 or 2 is more expensive than buying an action camera gimbal that costs around £80. I’m just giving people options anyway, I’ve talked about pros and cons of both setups so people can choose what might work best for them and their budget.
