Honda ZR-V First Drive

  • Hey there everyone and welcome to my first drive review of the new Honda ZR-V.
Honda is no stranger to SUV’s after creating the first one back in the late 90’s.
But oddly they haven’t had an SUV to rival the likes of the Ford Kuga, Hyundai Tucson and Nissan Qashqai. The CR-V has grown in recent years and is now considered a large SUC and a new one is on the way and is also larger.
So, welcome the ZR-V. An all-new model to the UK.
One of the best ways to describe the ZR-V is as a Civic on stilts.
Just like the Civic the ZR-V is powered by a 2.0L petrol engine, a hybrid battery with 2 electric motors. Producing 181 bhp to the front wheels via an eCVT. It’s the same unique non-gearbox as in the Civic.

I've had mine two weeks and it's epic. 500 miles out of a tank = 42mpg. Hopefully it'll get better but it's an awesome car and certainly gets some double takes when people see it.

Sounds promising. I’m considering the advance in blue. How well does the Honda Navigation System work in terms on line traffic alerts as well the adaptive cruise control system?

You can put the parcel shelf under the boot floor, it actually folds in half to fit into the storage space.

Which colour do you think is the more striking out of the ruse black or the still night blue?

the parcel shelf folds in half and can be used as either a boot divider or once folded be stored under the boot floor where it opens

Had my advance model 2 months and really like the car except for the beeping when you exceed the speed limit. Apart from that it ticks all the boxes. 600 miles on a full tank and currently getting 44 mpg which is steadily rising. Great review by the way.

Autobear thx for that honest review. I have a question: can a tow bar be fitted and would this in someway clash with the open & close features of the boot? Ken.

Had ours for about 10 weeks … I HATE the automatic braking when in cruise mode. I found that if I’m driving around a bend (on an A or B road) the front sensors can pick out a parked car & sharply apply the brakes. It’s bloody dangerous. Similarly, driving through contraflow roadworks, it ‘picks out’ or senses oncoming vehicles & brakes sharply. In the 10 or 12 times it has happened whilst I’ve been driving, luckily no vehicles were that close to cause an accident. But it can appear to a following vehicle, that I am ‘brake checking’ them. Honda dealership said that the computer cannot be overwritten to stop this. On a £40k car that is ludicrous.

Most cars I’ve had do this with adaptive cruise control. The golf GTD I had and a recent Nissan Ariya did it. Just one of those things it seems like.

Thank you a lot for posting this. ACC has MAX priority for me. I am testing now Tig III and ZRV 2024. Tiguan self-drives so smoothly. Curves, round abouts, everything with ACC enabled (using steering wheel only whrn car ask). He is so predictive, 20 km in t-jam- no problem, I sometimes touch the wheel only. Okay, I will check today ZRV, I ordered 2-hours driving test. 1 hour of self drive only.

Lovely vehicle, just been checking one out today at my local dealer. This was the advance model. I have now registered an interest with them and looking to get mine in July. I must say however, that in the UK you really get shafted with car prices, cannot believe how steep they are. In Gibraltar I am going to pay 34k for the top of the range advance. There are taxes and there are taxes. Cant believe how the country has managed to go into recession with that kind of daylight robbery from people's pockets. Oh and great objective review, thanks very much.

Another great review, Dave. It's a shame it's not an EV but I think it'll sell well. Honda has needed a mid-size SUV for a while. Like every other Honda, it will last and last and will be a faithful companion.
Dogs and wheelchairs will fit nicely when the seats are down.

Hi, great detail review. Thanks. I am very interested of zrv thus I watch lot of reviews. One thing is the parcel shelf are able to fold and store under the boot floor space according to others reviews just wonder if that’s different to your region?

you mention that its easy to get in and out of for those with mobility issues but problem i see and will have myself ids that there doesnt see to be a grab grip over the driver door, infact a lot of carts which ive looked at recently doesnt seem to have one which is very annoying for people like me who need them. btw arnt the paddles f or the the gen breaking levels and not gear shift's like in the ecvt in the HRV?

Just a couple points bruv, the parcel shelf does fit under the boot when folded, and the modes have no effect on the suspension setting. Thanks for the review.

Autobear thanks for video. Can you advise please. Currently have Rav4 but changing in a few months. Living on a Scottish island the roads are not the best and in the Rav I am constantly being thrown around in seat. Trying to decide between ZRV and XC40. Do you have a preference? Thanks again.

Hi Duncan. Thank you so much for your comment. Unfortunately it's been a long while since I've worked with Volvo but who knows what 2024 will bring. The most premium of the 2 will be definitely be the XC40, but for value out of the 2 it would be the Honda. I would recommend driving both. I will endeavour to get Volvo back on the channel.

Hi i saw yr video on CRV hybrid and have now bought one. Is this ZRV quiter on road noise as I find the CRV can be noisy on coarse roads

    • @AutoBears
      @AutoBears  11 месяцев назад

Hi K, thank you for you comment. The ZR-V is quieter than the current CR-V as it has the old school hybrid system and you can hear the engine growling a bit. With the new Civic, ZR-V and new CR-V it uses the new system which is more refined and feels more like a traditional auto than a CVT. Hope that helps.

Hi there Trig. Unfortunately I've not worked with Volvo in a while but who knows what will happen in 2024. Out of the 2 the Volvo would be the more premium but as for standard equipment the Honda.

Why are top models over £40000 rrp, discounts all over Internet under £40000, honda would sell a lot more without the burdon of the government roadtax at £570 a year for first 6 years
