The amazing MODO bass modelled software instrument from IK Multimedia! This thing is phenomenal!! - Short quick-look video is here: • IK Multimedia MODO Bas...
YES! This is amazing. As a bass player/guitarist/ producer, this is the bass sound you're looking for when you pull up an electric bass patch. Pretty much every nuance of playing is there, and ACCESSIBLE. It's not that there aren't some great bass samples and patches out there. This plugin is designed around the WAY a bass player thinks. The subtilties and nuances that you pull out of the instrument that makes bass AND bass playing SOUND like real bass. Beautiful modeling. Dancetech, beautiful video. Thoughtful, INFORMATIVE and how a video review should be. I'm leaving already knowing how to use the plugin. Thanks man. Excellent work.
You always do the absolute best reviews/tutorials!! I love that you looped the same midi sequence through each of the different bass guitars. Other reviewers play different note sequences while cycling through the different bass guitars, which makes no sense. How can I make comparisons when they keep changing the notes AND the bass guitars? Love your approach and will be a subscriber for life. Note: I would like to see you playing around with some of the other effects like slides on MODO Bass. Could you please do a PART II now that you've had a couple years to fiddle around with it? I always learn something new from you. Cheers!
The only slightly annoying thing I noticed when watching again is that you left on the equaliser and therefore during most of the video we don’t hear the full sounding bass. Am I right? Great job anyway!
Man! Im so so grateful with ypu! thanks so mucho for this in depth tutorial, this is exactly what I was looking for, 'cause all the other tutorials are about hot to live play with a midi controller, but not about a already done midi map, now my song is goint to sound reallly kick ass! Cheers!
I'm no professional musician, but I take my songs seriously, it has to sound respectable, but just saying, I simple LOVE this plugin. Funny how it's so hard to get a authentic sounding VST guitar, but Modo has made a near authentic sound bass product. So many options and setting to play with, even like, old, new and worn strings, which put out distinctively different sounds I can't say enough about it, I'll only get on line and comment on something if I love something or hate it. The only thing I can't perfect is the slide, but I just need to stop and take time to learn. If I have one or two slides in a song I'll just use my real bass, though that's all the use that real Ibanez bass gets, except for when I film a video {chuckle}. I'm more of a studio engineer, I'd rather spend my hours upon hours in the studio working with the software and shaping sound, than practicing a guitar or bass. Here is a real life version of my Modo bass in this song, I use that same dark green "Studio Bass" I used 3 bass tracks the ones panned left and right were more what I called "nasty" the center was like a "cutter" to cut through the mix. Not saying it's the greatest but I like the sound ruclips.net/video/jVOXMK8nhF4/видео.html
I can't wait for your take on modo bass 2!! One note I can't find anywhere, patterns in 2x when dragged to daw, reverts to its original bpm ... anyways, love yer work ... have learned loads from you ... be well!
me too! Acoustic and upright basses now included. I'll be reviewing that one very soon, and also that new Joe Chiccarelli vocal channel, which is REALLY good btw!
The ghost notes was the coolest. That is what's needed to make a rhythm. With all settings they are mad to put it out without a manual. What you don't know you don't use. What country are they from? What are they on one wonders. Ghost notes and velocity sensitivity makes it real. 16-triplet runs will make bass players solid fan-girls of a virtual player.
Yeah, this thing kicks ****!! i cant seem to get the 'Force string' controller to work though, which should force it to play a climb or descending part on the same string... shame there is no manual.
dancetech Great video, thank you and welcome back. I’ve had this plugin for a year or so and it is really fantastic. There is a pdf manual and its available in your user area if you’ve bought the product and logged in to IK’s website. Let me know if you need a copy.
So there is! well done for that. That should have been made clear on the website i think. even googling a manual came up with nothing. However, last times i tried i cant get some of them to work. Force string and the hammer-on / pull-off dont seem to respond.I'm going to have to spend more time, maybe i shouldn't have done the video yet, i only spent a couple of hours with it.
excellent review. just bought this bass, based on your review..which model and settings do you find is best for that deep reggae sound.thankx in advance.
usually any of the older basses, then you can choose to go with flatwound or roundwound strings and whether they are worn or broken-in etc. The amp & eq is equally important to get the sound you want. Remember, you can bypass using the amp-section & use only the DI output and feed that into any bass amp/cab emulator you like.
Great demo. Could you tell me please, does it allow you to install on both a PC and Mac laptop after purchase? I couldn't find this info on their website.
Slides is the only thing I can't figure out with MODO bass but I can't say I've taken the time to really figure it out, mainly because with everything else, you can just mess around and understand what's going on.....
@@ileryon4019 Right it's a control, and the control keys on the left and there are two kinda of slides a "regular" slide and a "legato" slide, it's embarrassing to say I don't know enough about legatos and arpeggios and such. If someone could so a video that walks us through slide only, it would be much appreciated. As I mentioned elsewhere, I'll just do my slide on my real bass
@@pedrosenamelo9881 You might be right sir, but I got the impression that does more of a "bend". Only saying that because that's what I do with my virtual guitars to to a string bend. I just think we need a video of someone doing a Modo Bass slide, that's the easiest way to learn.....
Howdy. I finally got Modo Bass albeit the CS version and so far I've been having fun using it in place of the Logic stock bass instruments. One mix i was working on sounded like the bassist was using vibrato so after watching this video i have a question about mapping the Modo Bass effects. i mapped the KS types to Logic and they work great. Can i map the vibrato (type CC) to logic but only use the mouse and the logic automation to create the effect as I'm have trouble figuring the CC type out. Or do i need an external keyboard to control CC types? Thank you for your outstanding tutorials.
Well, this is definitely the best sounding Bass guitar plug-in i've heard. Luckily for me, i can play the bass! However... (yes it had to come) one major omission for me... No fretless option, I assume?
no. i don't see any fretless option.. however in all fairness fretless bass should have been banned back in the 80's after we had to suffer so much of it ;)
Is it possible to play down to C2, which Anthony Jackson did on his Imperial bass? On my sampler, I normally just lower the sample down to C2, but what to do here?
Is It possibile, as with EzBass by Toontrack, to automatically create a baseline starting with a Song (with drums and other inserimento but no bass) ? Ciao
Is there an option for automating your own custom picking patterns in this plugin? And not only just the alterative picking or only up up or down down picking style.
yes. you can use two control notes (one for up one for down stroke) or switch control to a CC. In Logic I find you need to get all the control notes accompanying the played notes after the first note in the pattern, and drag them all fractionally BEFORE the actual playing notes so the control gets a chance to trigger before the note is struck
Can you please demo the tones available when you change the pickup distance to the bridge as shown in 10:26 please? I have not seen anyone demo tones from this and I have read on forums that this is very glitchy
just get the demo & try it yourself. It's so easy to demo Ik Multimedia software (no iLok etc required) & you get a proper demo period with no cut-outs or white noise bursts etc.
I don't have a midi keyboard... how can I use the Slide function?? Can I do it just by pencil in it out? Can I assing a Note on the virtual keyboard inside the DAW?
hey I am not able to configure the installed MODO bass plugin as an instrument in my DAW (Studio one 4). I can't see the modo bass in the lirary of studio one 4 . what should I do?
@@pantja5ila hey, the problem is solved now. Actually I have installed it in the common folder of all my VSTs. But even after this I had to manually add the plugin from the folders section inside STUDIO one & it worked.
Hey...why does my "contol" give a different setup? And it gives like CC64 settings...what does that mean? I know C1 means C in perphaps the second position on the keyboard. But CC64? Anyone perhaps know?
@@dancetech Nailed it. I just turned down the bass and upped the mids and treble on the eq and the gain. Used plec close to bridge. Sounds quite accurate to my ear. Saved it as a preset 👍🏻
