We shouldn't call them "discount stores" we should called the others "overpriced stores". One big thing you're missing why they're cheaper is they're privately owned. So they're not required to make large profits, push for growth and all the other non end consumer focused corporate metrics the traditional supermarkets obsess over. It's ironic all the best power to the people ideas come from modern day Germany.

Who paid for this piece the Lidi and Aldi marketing team so biased. The low prices are 100% the main attraction! The quality of food and everything else is low to average at best! Anyone unbiased can tell the difference between it and other better quality supermarkets. Quality is noticeably lower then Sainsbury's let alone Waitrose and M&S. Also most stores are a disorganising mess. Cheap but quality is effected depends what you want!

Today's newspapers have highlighted the fact that many shoppers are of the opinion that certain food retailers may be forcing prices upwards unnecessarily, and not due to the products being more expensive to produce and therefore simply a sign that these retailers are increasing certain prices to enhance their profits under the implied guise of sound retailing. This may be case for your own supermarket, hitherto regarded as the doyen of those providing value for money. However, I have spotted a quite alarming price increase in your store on a product whose price has increased overnight by almost 100%. I refer to your brand of cottage cheese, the flavoured ones, pineapple and onion with chives. I believe that it was formerly priced at about 65p per tub but now, quite abruptly, priced at a whopping £1.29. I shall have to look more intently at other of your lines to see whether prices are now increasing beyond a reasonable amount, If this is now the norm, it certainly challenges your boast that Aldi is the 'cheapest supermarket around'.
