Barry Humphreys is brilliant, his Les Patterson character is hilarious.
Dame Edna on the Parkinson show was priceless!!
Squirrel,Sir Les Patterson is another Barry Humphreys character.
70 years of comedy, what a champion! RIP Barry, we won't see another like this ♥
Dame Edna is the greatest living comedian and character on earth, hands downs. Quite possibly the greatest ever.
Dame Edna was huge in the UK too Squirrel
Dame Edna and the Royal Box is brilliant but short
A funny very short clip you might enjoy is ‘Dame Edna Royal Variety Performance 2013’; not a long clip at all, but a great interaction between her and the King and Queen (while they were still Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall of course!)
I had the pleasure of meeting Dame Edna at Buckingham Palace years ago. I was talking to Barry's son and Edna went off to the toilets and I noticed she went in to the ladies. I asked Barry's son if Barry does that when he is in character. The answer was "No, that's a new one"
😄😆
Can't believe we lost Dame Edna and Lily Savage in the same month
I first came across Barry Humphries back in the 60s when he wrote the "Barry McKenzie" strip cartoon for Private Eye. Hysterical.
Barry Humphreys has now passed us by, but what a wonderful comic he truly was. Dame Edna Everage is not some drag queen, or some guy in a frock. Dame Edna is an institution, a mountain of comedy, satire, ridicule, pathos and an outrageous ordinary person. No one is like Barry. We are blessed.
I remember when Barry Humphreys first started doing Edna. She was Edna Average and dressed in a very dowdy way. Nobody could have guessed she would evolve to Dame Edna Everage.
If you want to see his most disgusting character look for Sir Les Patterson. Very funny.
Barry Humphries has appeared on many US talk shows from the 1960’s until he passed on.
Originally appearing as himself or one of his 3 main characters, when Dame Edna became popular in the US, he was mostly interviewed as Dame Edna and sometimes Sir Les.
Dame Edna had a guest appearance on an episode of Elli McBeal as a normal actor playing a role.......credited and advertised as Dame Edna with Barry getting a tiny credit right at the end of the credits that no one ever watched.
The episode was well received, and Dame Edna got a short permanent role playing a secretary for the law firm. lol
Hey 🐿️👍bloody funny🤣others have mentioned in comments and I completely agree his Les Patterson character is hilarious. Nice one buddy ✌️🍻
A restrained Dame Edna in this clip, as Loose Women is Lunchtime TV show. Others have mentioned his other persona, Sir Les Patterson. Surprisingly, a Statesman for the Australian Government, sitting on the Australian Cheese Board and also The Cultural Attaché to The Court of Saint James in London.
I said ‘surprisingly’ as I’m sure you will be surprised by his appearance and demeanour. Also, for those of a nervous disposition. I fear that his exquisitely tailored suit, baggy at the knees. Often fails to effectively conceal what lies beneath, when captured by unwary Camera Operators during his Talk Show interviews. 😮 🫢
As was suggested, Dame Edna on Parkinson with Sharon Osbourne.
I saw his live farewell tour of the UK, it was fantastic. But Edna was a fixture on British TV from the sixties, she had her own chat show at one time. The Dame Edna Experience. Is you saw The Hobbit, Barry played the Great Goblin.
What was that show he did where he invaded people's houses and rummaged through everything?! And picked the 'victim' out with his gladioli?! 🤣🤣🤣
When he was dressed as any of the characters he must be called by that name. Helped him be in character.
There is a wealth of Barry Humphries material out there.
I'm pretty certain I've seen Dame Edna and/or Sir Les Patterson interviewed on US late night TV.
He's such a skilled comedian that your TV show just got owned and you didn't care.
Dame Edna is a national treasure. I'd agree with others here about the Michael Parkinson chat show. It's old, but a masterclass in showmanship and wit and sharp British humour. Spellbinding.
Actually Australian humour. But yes, it was a classic.
Dame Edna and Sir Les Patterson. Brilliantly perfomed by the late great Barry Humphries. RIP
Treasured memories gifted to us by a very funny and talented man
Australian yes. But very well known in the UK. In fact I would not be surprised if he is most popular there.
Yep, we love Dame Edna as well, shout out to Madge Allsop, she put up with a lot hahaha.
Dame Edna's 'bridesmaid' as I recall. RIP Madge.
Edna Everage was originally based on Barry Humphries' mother, then extended through creative license. He did not have a close relationship with her and found it hard to understand her as she did him. Last night I watched, 'Who Do You Think You Are,' SBS Australian TV series featuring Barry's ancestry, where he came to have a better understanding of his mother's character from examination of her line in the family tree.
Our national icon. RIP ❤
I’m so happy I told you about this wonderful, unique, handsome lady 😅
Barry Humphries did a week as Dame Edna and Sir Les Patterson at a theatre I managed in the early 80's and was fantastic as a performer and a very entertaining, intelligent, educated and cultural man.
This video is eerily prophetic.
Sir Les is his best, mate😅
RIP Barry Humphries. So iconic he was offered a State Funeral from 2 States here in Aus. Not sure that’s happened a lot. But goes to show.
Legend. There should be a movie made about him! Genius.
RIP Barry Humphries 1934-2023
This type of entertainment is gone forever. RIP Barry. I am really glad I lived in this time.
I have to say I am really loving your journey through our love of Drag, the history of drag goes far back in the British culture and is their for all to enjoy, it saddens me that Drag artists are currently under attack in the US, so thank you for representing them on your channel.
The difference is Barry Humphreys had class and was not overly sexual, and most definitely didn't try to sexualise children. I am certain that Barry would not have a good opinion on the modern drag scene. They are now a bunch of degenerates.
Guess you’ve heard by now Dame Edna, Barry passed away here yesterday our Melbourne time. Brilliant man. I saw him live as Edna in the 1970s here in Melbourne. Only by coincidence I was looking today for a photo I took but I found a pic of Barry I took. He was in a music shop in Melbourne city, in a bed, in the front store window 😂. I can’t remember why. I asked him if I could take a pic, and we had a chat, can’t remember what we talked about, as I was about 18, in my 60s now. Funny polite man, except when he plays his other persona - Sir Les Patterson 🤨😱😂
I saw Barry Humphries on stage many years ago. He did a number of his characters including Dame Edna and Sir Les. By the end of the show my jaw and my stomach ached from laughing so much. Didn’t even have a break from laughing in the intermission as they put up crazy, fake headlines, like ‘Crazed tampon slays elderly couple.’ Brilliant night!
Can I say that your comments at the end are just perfect and I think they would have made Barry laugh, especially as not many men can say they haven’t come across Dame Edna
We love Dame Edna. Been watching her/him since the late 60s before the dame hood was bestowed. Always hilarious, often shocking. The Australians have fewer sensibilities than the English.
Dame Edna worked in the US too. You can see her with Bea Arthur and Roseanne (yes, that one!)!
Unfortunately Barry Humphries passed away in the early hours today 23 April 2023. He and his wonderful sense of humour will be missed dearly. May he rest in peace.
@@irenebishop7163 Yes but when I said 'see her' I meant on YT. Bea Arthur passed away years ago.
Wow, you discovered Barry a week before his passing.
He started his Dame Edna in London in the 1960s, he was satirising Australian women. 😂
One on Parkinson’s show with Sharon Osbourn and Judy Dench. Grew up watching him. Hilarious 😂 funny 😂😂😂😂😂
Love edna, did a series in America too squirrel, you should beable to find some of it on tube, 👍❤🏴
He does other persona's Squirrel. Look up Les Patterson, there is a male persona that he does. But, undoubtedly Dame Edna is his longest running and most adored persona. Anyway cheers m8, loved that review.
Yes he did most of his work in Britain with some of it in the US and Australia, the latter in the early days more so.
When you come to do your next Dame Edna video, you should watch the clip of her on the Aspel char show with Richard Gere and Lauren Bacall. She absolutely ruined Richard Gere. Devastating and hilarious.
haha I just re-watched it. Richard looked like a stunned mullet. Lauren Bacall really got the humour.

Haha what a great character 😂❤😹✌🏼🐿️
Do a youtube search for Sir Les Patterson, this was also another iconic character be placed.
Barry just died a few weeks ago. 😢 Watch more Dame Edna- she had a tv show here in the 80’s. Funniest person on earth.
.....And unfortunately Barry Humphries (Dame Edna) has passed also.....two shining talents that link the UK with Australia when it comes to their sense of humour. R.I.P Lily and Edna.😞
Carol Vorderman in the red. He definitely fancied her.
So strange to see someone who has never heard of dame edna. Do more 😀
Ah yes Dame Edna appeared on here a few times along with This Morning which are both live daytime TV programmes. He also appeared as Barry on This Morning and has Ruth and her husband Eamonn in stitches,he's much like Paul, pretty much the same humour out of character and I think Edna appeared on Paul TV show, he's very much in character, as soon as he started making up you refer to him as Edna, however Paul and Dan were just Paul and Dan while making up, unsure how long it took the other two but took Dan two hours, but then he was having a conversation with others who'd passed away at the same time, and many from the theatres thought he had company so didn't knock his door, all three of these knew each other, Dan from County Cork Ireland, I think Paul family came from West Ireland originally and Barry from Moonieponds Australia 😁 Dame Edna takes it right to be bone and there is An Audience With and his/her own TV shows in the UK
Barry Humphries passed away yesterday, aged 89.
Seriously legendary Australian
The one thing that came out of Australia that should have stayed there is Les Patterson!!!
May Dame Edna Rest In Peace ... Barry past 2 weeks ago .
You need more Dame Edna in your life I reckon. Larry Hagman on her Dame Edna Experience stands out for me, funniest thing I ever saw in my childhood and it still cracks me up.
Oh Dame Edna, never really got into Barry Humphries characters. Dame Edna was his best character though.
His character of Sir Les Patterson is (too me) very much of a throw back to the 70's.
You need to check out his Sir Les Paterson character the man, the myth, the legend that he is
Do some more, you won't regret it.
Yes we grew up with Barry Humphries aka Dame Edna etc. in Aus. Barry Humphries autobiography was one of the best autobiography’s I read many year ago. He’s very well educated who studied Law etc at Melbourne University but ended up in comedy.
I believe it was the tv show Ally McBeal that had Barry do a toned down for American prime time version of the Dame Edna character in semi regular appearances on the show. I think the character had a different name tho
long live Dame Edna
Hello possums. Quite frankly the biggest gigastar to come out of Moonee Ponds.
Rest in Peace Barry Humphreys
Comic genius
Sadly Barry Humphries passed away last week aged 89.
Sadly he passed away a couple of days ago…..RIP Barry, you will definately be missed but not forgotten❤❤
Vale Barry Humphries.
Onya Bazz!
What are you doing to the comedians, Squirrel? 'He's now in hospital!!! 'The comedian, 89, had hip surgery last month after a fall in February, and was readmitted following complications''
Check out his Sir Les Patterson the Australian cultural attaché.
Week after doing your video Barry Humphrey's passed away.
He's just died sadly. Take a look at the Australian Cultural Attaché Les Paterson
RIP Barry
It's a gentler, British version of the View. Darwin is wonderful you can't swim there because you'll be eaten.
Barry died a couple of days ago. He was so funny.
That is probably the worst example of the great Dame you could have possibly watched.
He was a genius. He also was a great friend of the Royal Family. King Charles rang him just before he died.
I'm sure it's not but I do hope Melanie crumpet is her real name
Teo great comics lost ar such a short interwall
Barry Humphries in real life is a very sophisticated, artistic type. His Sir Les Paterson, is another hilarious characterisation.

Loose women is like your “the view”.
You do know Barry Humphries died a few weeks ago right?
You should watch one of his own shows - far more ehilarious
Try his awful alter ego!
He died in 2023
He only dresses as a woman as a comedian character
