Unlocking immortality: the science of reversing aging

  • When it comes to human longevity, you might envision nanobots helping our bodies operate more efficiently. But our bodies are biological machines in their own right, evolved to handle any situation in the real world from illness to cold to hunger. Our bodies heal themselves, and they can be programmed to do so if we understood that language better.
This video talks about DNA and genes, and the epigenetic mechanisms that read that information. The epigenetic clock is one way to measure the age of cells, and this can be reversed with current technologies. We discuss experiments by David Sinclair, which made blind mice see again, and experiments by Greg Fahy, which regenerated the immune system of humans and reset their cellular age by 2 years.
Asking our bodies to heal themselves could be one of the largest medical breakthroughs ever, instead of trying mainly chemical means of medication. And it has significant implications for whether or not we can achieve longevity escape velocity and continue to live more or less indefinitely. This promises to be a very interesting topic.

I'm sorry your mother has gone through that. Quality of life is so important. It's always seemed strange to me that people sometimes wait until retirement to do what they actually want, because their health might not be good at all by that point. Sensory issues, or motor control issues, are especially problematic IMO and we rely on sight more than any other sense. Let's hope medicine can begin to help with these types of issues more in the future.

I would like for you to post more videos on longevity. There is one more epigenetic approach; you need to have 'students' for your 'teacher'. We currently decline in stem cell reproduction. So to increase the output of new stem cells creates the 'students' for your thymus, 'teacher', to school. The stem cells also repair the thymus. The key is maximizing stem cell reproduction.

Do you have any videos on sound frequencies and are there really healing vibrations or how does music work with our bodies?
I once got rid of a persistent headache by listening to a reiki-chant cd with headphones when I was younger and I have no idea how that worked.
Sometimes certain cds felt like they reduced inflammation for me, but maybe it was also because they helped me focus on healing too...

The issue with uploading an exact digital copy of one's brain is in the same wheel house as having a working transporter (as seen in Star Trek) in that both result in an end of life for the participant. A digital upload of yourself would have your memories, your personality, your likes/dislikes, and would vehemently defend that they were you. It wouldn't be wrong because it's a perfect copy of you and to itself....it IS you. However, it's not. It's a perfect copy enshrined digitally, but YOU are gone. Unless tech is developed (which I'm positive will happen) to somehow install your physical brain into a system as a form of biological software, any upload achieved will simply be a speaking, thinking, and very expensive Polaroid memorial that you existed.
Nanotech however? Personally I feel nanotech, while progressing very impressively, will be what scifi makes it out to once we can give an AI system that is technically an AGI system (Remember, AGI does not mean sentience. General intelligence is an AI that can utilize it's general knowledge to grasp a problem or concept that is completely unknown to it to understand it.The same way you or I apply knowledge we have to understand something new to us) the computational power of at least a 1,000,000 qubits quantum computer. An AGI AI with access to that computational power along with current data and progress would result in new sciences we honestly can't comprehend.

It really upsets me when people say aging is a natural process and needs to be embraced. Aging is evil, getting old is evil. What is worse about aging, is it makes you look unattractive and then you get this horrific disease or illness such as cancer dementia or alzheimer’s.
According to the younger generation of people, they would rather Die Young than face those fates, and who can blame them. I myself refused to age, get old and get a terminal illness. Just a thought of that makes me wanna die alone, young.
I’ve lost the will to age, get old and get a terminal illness and die just at the thought of it. The cause and effect has shut down my aging process, got killed.and hasand has reversed me mentally and physically 30+ years.
Don’t let society drag you down. Don’t let them tell you that this is something that must happen unless there’s nothing you can do to stop it. You basically look at your eye and you tell them that they’re full of bunk.
The this process is mined over matter and the use of subliminals. Trust in the process and believe that it’s already happened. And yes, do your preventative maintenance.
Just even walking around every so often makes all the big difference. If the weather is too severe outdoors then go to a Walmart or a mall works just as good and walk around that for a while. Also drink a lot of water to keep your body dehydrated and drink green tea as well that is really beneficial.

I would suggest a fourth way. I believe we are already immortal, but we don't are fairly well disconnected from our past lives. What if we discovered a way to stay more conscious through the process of dying and being reborn?

  • @johncurtis920
    @johncurtis920 7 месяцев назад

There was an article recently in the science section of the NYTimes that caught my interest. Basically, it's being determined that if you're fertile then genetically this works against longevity. Apparently, the genes enhancing your fertility are configured in such a way that while they prime you for children in your younger years those very same genes, longer term, cause you to self-destruct. So to speak. Which makes evolutionary sense. You breed, you pass on your genetic code, you're done so you can die now. Evolutionarily speaking. A bit of Mother Natures wisdom?
Which set me to thinking. Leaving aside the idea of some form of digital immortality I can envision a day where, with a periodic cocktail of medical treatments, you can live forever. But given the above note about evolution this isn't really a good idea without a corresponding change in societal ethos. Evolution is about diversity and creating more of it, not being static with one organism just because it, you, wants to keep living. So, about that cocktail. I can see a day where society will have to come up with a solution. You cannot have a legion of immortal beings all running around merrily breeding, can you? That makes no sense. At least not in the context of the lives we have within this terrarium, Earth. But what does make sense would be this.
You want immortality? Fine, you can have it. But you cannot breed. This will be the choice proffered you. This choice will have to be given you when you enter your prime years and before you inadvertently breed. Choose immortality, then fine. You're rendered sterile. Choose to breed, then you abrogate your right to immortality. From a societal perspective this seems fair to me. In fact, even if you choose immortality at the beginning there's nothing to say you can't choose to change it later. You just give up, in so choosing, access to the treatments to immortality.
Hmmm....I can think of a whole line of stories based on this idea. Can't you?
    John!

I'm not sure I'd really want to live "forever" - whatever that even means! Extended life though, yeah maybe a couple hundred years would be nice. For me, I just want enough time and decent health to actually enjoy life. Travel around, read more books, have new experiences. But then again, if you lived for hundreds of years, you'd probably always need to seek out more experiences and stuff just so you don't get bored. Could keep things interesting but also seem tiring. Anyway, endlessly rambling over here! What do you think - would you wanna live forever or just an extended period? I'm torn. There's definitely perks to having more time, but there's something appealing about life being relatively short too. Makes you appreciate every moment. But who knows! I'm just thinking out loud. This is fun to think about. 😊

I think of it like a TV show that could either end on a high note, perhaps there are ideas you could've explored but everything so far has been good and you can wrap things up nicely. If you continue the show you can explore more ideas, but you risk going on for too long, you'd have to end the show because you've run out of material and it's not entertaining to watch. I wouldn't mind being able to live longer, if I was still capable of doing things without too much aid, but immortality I feel would come back to bite you in the end and it'll ultimately be the reason your life ends, because you wouldn't want to experience life any longer than you have. Also you're challenging this phenomenon that affects all organisms, dictates our lives to such an extent, to reverse aging and live beyond what we're capable of is weird to think about

Hypothetically, say they reset our age by 20 years but it in fact takes until 2030. Whoever makes it till 2030 could potentially then make it to 2050. By 2050, we are entering that magical era where those who choose to can become digitally immortal.

Maybe the thymus treatment could benefit from a special diet to limit the side effects.

1:00 The lower birth rates argument doesn't make sense to me. It makes sense as a temporary thing, like raising interest rates to boost economy. But after a while you'll get crazy inflation. Too many metaphors...
If the birth rate is dropping forever then it doesn't matter how many immortal people there are, humans will eventually succumb to negative birth rates and go extinct. Nobody is truly immortal. An accident in the kitchen and your superior telomeres are useless, for example.
If the birth rate is dropping and immortal people are having more and more babies, then we run out of "space". So which immortal person will kill themselves or choose to stop having kids?
in summary: living forever isn't a fix for low birth rates. You either make too few or too many. Just a tangent to the main point, carry on...

Just to remind people. Be biological immortality will not save us from death FOR EVER anyway. We will still die in some of all the other ways and causes. Sure it would be cool to live longer and healthier. But an end will always come. We just can’t control it. We can only try to postpone it. (=longevity different from IMMORTALITY or defeating death)

what are the new immortals going to do when an unfortunate car accident happens to a 1000 year old person. death is inevitable and the only way to escape the simulation! No, you won't be transfer consciousness to a digital computer, but a good copy of your likeness will be possible.

The average human lifespan being 40years up till 1850 - this is a myth commonly repeated. Fact is - cavemen could live till 70 quite easily if they reached adulthood. The very high infant and adolescent mortality rates screw the data! This is important - because even today people are dying in their 70's and we must realise how little our lifespans have actually improved. Or rather - how the benefits of modern medicine are simply offset by the damaging effect of the modern lifestyle!
