This happened to my old 03 Taco with my son in it. Thank yehovah it was in a parking lot. Just upgraded to Total Chaos LBJ conversion and put new Moog greasable tie rod ends in also. These 1st gen’s are cool till that happens.
All my ball joints are toast. I am anxiously awaiting the OEM replacements and minimally driving. Unfortunately, I got visitors who want me to drive them around, not understanding the magnitude of the issues..... I just don't understand why people come to visit, and just want the host to drive and drop them off at different places like a taxi service.

how many mile on your Tacoma? Were those LbJ's original? My 2000 4Runner has 135k and the LBJs are still tight.
220k miles and the front end had been gone through at about 190k miles but they used after market ball joints, not OEM.

I believe it was around 450$ in parts for both sides to be completely replaced front end parts
