Hey, great shop. The two car sized shop is probably the most popular and you have done a great job. It works for me.
The “improvised” things are why I watch these type of videos. They’re subtle tips and tricks that I didn’t know I needed
So many of the little details you shared are genius - tape marks to show the size of the staples, your entire shop being moveable, whiteboard on your otherwise wasted-space garage door - it gives me so many ideas for whatever shop I eventually build! Also, I would love to see more artwork videos from you. So many of your furniture videos showcase how artistically you think about projects, it would be great to see you make some real art pieces!
This is crazy efficient for a 2 car garage. OCD improved!
This was one of the best shop tour videos that I've seen! Thank you for taking us through the progressive of your shop and the "why" you put things in thier spot. You've given me some great ideas for my own shop!
I stumbled unto your channel a few months ago when one of my subscribers mentioned a bowl that I made was inline with your pattern plywood. I've been intrigued with your design style since. As a fellow content creator, I've also been inspired by your approach and the story telling in your videos. I'm working towards making a few changes to my content based on inspiration from you and Chris Salomone. Thank you! - Ed
Thanks Ed!! I'm really glad this video resonated with you. I'll go check out your channel 👍
Wow! The sculpture!!! And you have got to be the only guy that has a shop that looks like mine. One that your not afraid to use. I hat it when the shops look like everything got bought yesterday. ;-) Well done.
Tons of great info in this video. The one that stuck out the most for me is having tape cut to length of the nails... brilliant!
Thanks for all you do! Trying my hand at some hexagon pattern ply. Using scraps, so the wood is already paid for. If I screw up there no real loss.
Super utilization of that space, Michael.
11:29 Pro Tip: Someone else may have already mentioned it, but most dry erase surfaces are damaged by ammonia-based cleaners causing them to erase more poorly and ghost more as time goes on. Instead, stick with alcohol-based cleaners when possible!
This was such a great shop tour. So interesting and just the inspiration that I've been needing. So many great ideas. Thank you!
It’s always valuable to see how someone else has solved layout issues or made their shop more efficient and a better place to spend time.
Thanks for sharing.
Duuuuudddeee..... I've got a 40x80 shop going in and have watched dozens of videos pertaining to layout and you are hands down (even in the small area that you are in...) one of the best resources that I've run across. Your efficiency is off the charts. If I had a dream team you are on it.... Keep up the fantastic work!~ Great job~
Congrats on the 300K! Thanks for the shop tour, these are always fun to see. Cant wait to see some of the sculpture videos!
Biggest 2 car garage I've ever seen! All the best from the UK
Great looking shop. It’s so inviting. The lighting really helps.
Incredible use of space. So much functionality here. I'll be bookmarking this one to reference later.
Great tour - thank you for sharing, especially your thought process for the whys and whats - very helpful for me as I'm starting to build out my shop. Happy building!
One of my favorite shop tours ever! I dont know how to explain it but it just feels so real. It's a shop you know gets used all the time and you can get a sense of how it has developed into what it is now. It's great timing since I just moved into a new house where my shop is now a 2 car garage(I use to have a 24x30). I will definitely be referencing this video multiple times to get ideas for mine. Thank you very much!!
Awesome shop tour. Thanks for sharing the rationale of your layout -- it really helps to understand how things have evolved over time.
Excellent tour - so many great ideas. Thanks! I'm both inspired, and envious.
Thanks for sharing your shop ... Im just awed by ur collection ....
Like the quick visual on organizing your shop easy to spot any thing you need right away to do your projects.
Every thing has a home, thanks for your tour.
Great shop tour! Looking forward to the Detailed Carving 101 👍👍
I'm impressed. You have the most organized small shop I have ever seen.
This is a simply jawdropping mixture of practicability and effectivness in a "grown by time" workshop. Congrats - and thank you for sharing.
Wonderful tour. Lots of tips in there to get the best out of the space with most used tools easily accessible. Found your channel while looking for picture framing techniques last year.
Just found your stuff. You have a very infectious energy, an amazingly chill attitude, and you make cool shit. Great shop tour and excellent explanation of the hows and whys. Thanks dude!
Great video Michael. Thanks for sharing the mental thoughts behind your shop organization. Makes so much sense. Great way to think about how to build a shop up and keep it efficient.
I have watched a few of your videos in the past but this was cool to see your shop layout.
It was hilarious to me how many similar things you have in your shop from what I do!! From the Talenti containers my wife gives me when she's done with them, I use the same organizing bins, Milwaukee/Ryobi combos, have the same drill press, I'm also always on the look out for that bucket of old drill bits and parts at sales. . It just made me laugh that I kept seeing the same stuff I have in my garage shop!
Very nice setup, Michael~! I understand how it takes a while to get setup in your space. I built my shop building about 4 years ago and it's taken me about that long to get organized....still working on it.
I admired your ‘evolve in use’, iterative approach to the design. Very entertaining. The animal carving looked amazing. All the best and congratulations on your success.
Great video, and a very realistic shop. As much as I love seeing these monster sized shops and all of their great expensive tools, it’s just not realistic for most. So this helped encourage me a ton. I’m sure like most it’s the mess and disorganization of my shop that that stalls me up a lot of the time. All of those little tiny add ons to make thing more functional is really cool too
We need to get this man a lathe!!!
I really love your channel, for both the content and you. The way you present projects and explain them is very clear and useful. I'm inspired to try some of your projects. Especially with the patterned plywood.
On another note, one about tools, I often encourage people to hit pawn shops, estate/garage sales, flea markets and more for tools. I have so many tools from those sources that are excellent tools. Not the latest and greatest, but they work and do the job very well. Eventually I will upgrade some of them because I outgrow them, but for the most part there is no need to spend un-necessarily. Thank you for another great video.
I really appreciate you explaining the why and how your shop came to be organized the way it is. It prompts me to ask similar questions about my own workflow and how I can improve my own shop. 🙏👍
And I think I said on one of you other videos: I use the Talenti containers too!
I always like a good shop tour. I began, like many I suspect, just gathering tools. I’ve now evolved to where I’m beginning to purposefully build out and organize a shop that actually works for me. Your tour was great for me for exactly that reason - as you said, “because it has a home” it lives here… you spend less quality time dancing around in circles looking for the remote to the dust filtration system… thanks for sharing!
Great solutions. I grew up in a workshop and worked at one of the bigget production fabrication shops in NYC and your set-up is inspiring. Thanks for all the great videos.
Best shop tour I’ve seen. Really like the storage tips you share, I will be using them for sure. I’ve saved the vid for future reference.
I love the sensibility of your shop! I use big jobs to justify buying new tools as well! Good to know I am not alone..
A very usable, inviting shop - so many good ideas as I start building mine.
I opening my workshop soon and this is definitely going to help with organization. Thank!!!!
Awesome video thanks👍🏼
Looking forward to seeing you do some woodcarvings. I’ve been carving for over 30 years.
Congratulations on the 300k subscribers.
I love your videos! I’m got my first table saw a month ago and I hope to try the pattern plywood shapes soon!
Also de drawers video helped me out so much with my first ones.
You’re amazing and I can’t thank you enough.
I love your shop!!! If I had your floor layout mixed with Adam Savage's wall and ceiling I would set up a spot where I could hang a hammock so I never had to leave. Actually just your shop on it's own would be anough gor me to want to live there!!!! Thanks for the shop tour, it was amazing 👏
Great video and camerawork! Found it interesting the luck of vise and hand tools like planes and chisels.
Also think you just convinced me to go with black melamine instead of white. Thanks!
Awesome to get a better view of your workplace, keep it up!
You have a Laura Kampf sticker!
OK, so besides the meticulous work, your love of ply and intelligent design skill... now I know why I like you 👌☺️👍
I found you through Chris Salamone who I found through Modustrial Maker along with Shaun Boyd. It's a nice feeling when you find the people you follow and admire for their craft are also linked - it makes you all feel like family.
There's also a large group of turners I follow: Pohl Barn, Rebel Turner (he is a master craftsman imo), Dan Preece, Oliver Gomis, Stewart Furini, Thomas Anton Geurts and, of course, Nick Zammeti lol
And random very talented people like CHEST'ER, Pask, Laura Kampf, the positive couple, my mechanics, Ben's Worx, Advoko MAKES, DeviantOllam, That Shabby Guy, mylittlehomestead, Maxin Kozlov...
Got to love creators happy to share ideas on RUclips 👍❤️
Thanks for the tour video, the best I have seen to date.
That was great. I learned a lot of useful ideas for setting up my first time shop. Thank you.
This is the kind of "small" workshop that I would like to have, someday....
Great organizing tips. Thanks for the tour!
In my younger days I would pick up a side job and based on the project I would look at the tools needed and make sure the cost of the tool I didn’t have was somehow buried in the profit of the job; within reason of course. I ended up with a very nice floor standing drill press and a dewalt sliding miter saw that I have had now for quite a few years. I have also gotten some hand me down tools that were inherited and some I have picked up along the way. Michael, you have a really nice shop for a 2 car garage and your creativity just on building the shop has given me some new ideas. If I get some time to learn how to really post a video, I have a couple of projects that I did with a friend of mine in his shop with his CNC. Cheers!
Great video with incredible clarity of what and why!
Lots to chew on in this video. Thanks for showing the details. Definitely picked up some good ideas and some inspiration to get more organized.
Thank you for the tour Michael. I am running permanent power to my two-car w/ attic shop next week. I bought the Delta version of your Jet band saw at a garage sale. Instead of pushing this saw to do re-saw work that it isn't quite suited for, I bought some 3/16" blades and the Carter Saw Blade Stabilizer and put all of the other guides in a box. Our little saws are perfectly suited as scroll saws.
Years ago, I built my sled with a hand hole like yours. Definitely helps. My sled is lighter and the hand hole fits a plug to hang it on the wall.
Great Vid, great shop design, nice to see that it is actually being worked in- some shop tours look almost sterile. My favorite was your tape holder!
Thanks. Really enjoyed your tour. Very good.
Really nice shop - thanks for the tour.
Very impressive, Michael. You are so tidy.
Nice explanation on how to set up a workshop space 👏🏾
Thanks for the tour. Great shop!!
Absolutely have so much respect. Your a humble genius. I'm so impressed!!! Thank you for sharing this. We're salvating and taking notes ( Accept the haters LOL). GOD BLESS YOU To be so kind to share this with us.
simple clamp storage, and convenient! Love it!
Great shop, very very well organized. Congrats
Most informative woodshop video yet. Great job 👏
Dude, it would be awesome to see you do some carving! My workshop envy is strong. I am lucky to have good tools, but my workspace is not great - I make it work for now. Keep it up Mike!
Really enjoy watching this tour.. thank you
There must be someone in the world who wants to give me a workshop and tools like this one! I can but dream
Great vid! Awesome, well organized shop, too! I also feel so validated re: pancake compressor. I’ve had two and got rid of both Bc they scared the hell out of me lmao
Love your work. And you have an awesome space.
Always enjoy your show, and the tour today was very interesting and informative. Now I know how you always seem to have what you need right at hand. It's no surprise you have reached 300,000 subscribers, and you can probably expect many more.
P.S. - whoever cuts your hair really likes you! A couple of times there I thought it was CGI, it works so well.
Your carving is amazing!
your shop tour is super thorough I LOVE IT !!!!!!! super great video and great purchasing tips too
Thanks so much!! Glad it was helpful 🙌
Great video thanks Michael! I’m in the middle of a workshop re-org myself, lots of great ideas here 👍 Oh, and I’d kill for 450 sq ft and a 12’ ceiling! 😂 🙌 👍
Ooooh, I’m subscribed to you too. Great channel
Thanks Peter!! Yeah I hit the jackpot with the space for sure!
Lol same. I'm 6'8" with 7ft ceilings. 8x8 with 7ft ceilings, and no AC in the Florida Summer... ooof.
This is the first video I've seen of yours. Great tour, you've got a nice set up. Looking forward to watching you make stuff! Liked and subscribed 👍
i would love to see you sculptures in the channel, great shop tour.
Nice shop good organisation. Was a good watch
Congrats on 300K bud! Love the channel and can't wait to see what you create next.
Thanks so much!
Great shop. And... what a nice Mercedes!
Love your channel and your creativity, brilliant.
great tour and really nice space.
That is great love the content, would love the rocker set
Great tour!! I really appreciate the details on how the shop has evolved. Of the books you have on that shelf do you have a favorite or one you really recommend? Also yes please on carving/sculpting videos
Ööööööö
Thanks Dominic! The woodworking book I recommend for everyone is "The Complete Manual of Woodworking" By Jackson, Day, and Jennings. It's packed with great info.
I had a big dumb grin with the Keep Georgetown Ugly sticker! 😆
Shop goals! It looks fantastic and very inspiring. I'm working on installing a french cleat system in my garage and making everything mobile as well, I know what you mean about everything finding a home with time. I'm hoping to find a good dust collection system design for mobile carts to keep my wife happy...wish me luck :)
Amazing how much u have in the shop- I’m in a 2 car garage too but don’t have the high ceilings- I can see where that really helps
Nice walk through of your shop
I like a few of the items you have in your shop
Thank you! For the awesome content and great ideas. Pure awesomeness sir.
A melhor garagem organizada. Parabéns, é muito inspirador para a minha garagem.
Congrats on 300k man! Hoping to hit that one day :)
Talenti containers are awesome and I use them for a lot of things too.
I like how you organize and label the brad nails. Also what clock do you have it’s metallic and looks sweet. Nice tour
AWESOME TOUR!
10:20 You can cut sheets of steel from old kaput washers, dryers, and stoves. Avoid fridges, freezers, and A/Cs (no point letting out the refrigerant). Put a metal-cutting blade on a circ saw (best use an old saw, especially if you use abrasive blades), and go. Send the rest of the hulk to the scrapyard. Wear tough gloves; cut steel often poses a serious laceration hazard.
MICHAELS HAIR IS ON POINT!😏
absolutely awesome shop. i'm inspired in many ways.
Great tour, thank you! I would definitely love to trade some stickers 😄
I'm glad you made a video on your shop setup. I have been wondering about creating my own shop but not really sure how or where to start. The video helped answer a lot of my questions and enjoyed every step of your shop setup. Thanks for sharing Question: Is your shop setup in your own garage or do you rent the garage?
