@@JayBates You have a welder! Why don't you weld a small block to a clamp and mark your band saw top so you can set it perfectly every time to stabilize the far side of your fence! Amazing shop I would love to have this kind of set up. I just recently lost most of my tools in a break in and we moved shortly after so have to start all over again. But I have a very small shed built on slab out of concrete block. I think it's maybe 8x10 or 8x12 but it has power and lighting run to it and I live in Florida so I can work on bigger or longer pieces just outside of it. It's going to bea long journey until I can start making things again but my dream is to have woodworking be my main source of income. If you have any tips on starting a business or what is involved in getting a business loan I would be very grateful for any help. Congrats on all your successes!

I'm not usually a fan of shop tour videos, but I'm in the process of designing a 40x30 shop, and I'm basing my design/layout on your shop. I appreciate how you decided to walk around the shop in a first "personesque" style which gives me a sense of space. I was literally trying to count your steps from your stations to benches, and back to walls, to give a real world estimate of space. Much appreciated.

It's amazing the journey you've taken from those early days making and selling benches etc to the craftsman you've become and your mantra of reinvest your profits in your tools really shows with this amazing dream shop. I'll be honest though, I think the last couple smaller shops had a more homely feel if you understand what I mean. I love watching your videos, you've come a long way and I hope the sunshine continues to shine on you and your family as you have given so much to alot of people who watch your videos and learn so much. For the hardware being scattered everywhere when you set up the sawhorses, you need a magne-can. It's a strong magnet glued to the end (not the side) of a stick, inserted into a cleaned-out steel can. Pass it over the floor like you would with a vacuum wand, then hold it over a container, grip the can, and pull the stick, and the steel bits fall off. Repeat as needed.

Thanks for being honest with everyone about not selling your woodworks for a living. Not to be too harsh, but this is an important distinction to make. I personally wanted to sell my woodworks for money and i set my shop up like a RUclipsr when I was younger. Spent too much time and money, and it wasn't optimal for work flow. Pro woodworkers have very different looking and functioning shops than pro woodworking video producers.
Obviously there are some overlaps, but they are very different (usually). Obviously your shop is gonna be better for producing videos, and a shop like mine or Mike Farrington's will be better for production work.

You dawg!!! A 1200 sq ft shop??? Wow. I have 28' x 7'. It works for me, but my fantasy is a 30x40...with the back 10' dedicated to air (compressed and dust collection) and finish, where in a positive pressure atmosphere I can stain and spray in a clean environment, and still go out and make sawdust.
I want to thank you for your videos. I appreciate that you describe your subject with an intelligent and articulate manner, and I have to tell you that even after 30+ years of sawdust manufacturing, you continusly demonstrate to me that I don't know everything...and to me, that's a good thing. I appreciate that you describe your
topic thoughtfully and simply, giving us straight-up info without histrionics and a bunch of 'blab' ( can you say BurbounMoth {sp}? ).

I haven't watched your channel in years, and I went through your workshop playlist. Just got to this video. At the beginning of this video, I noticed that you look way healthier. I wouldn't really say that you were unhealthy in the 2nd to last video in this playlist, but it's noticeable for sure.
I agree 100% that nutrition is very important. I started working at a new company in 2021 and they have a great culinary team. Their food is healthy and good. I've always been in decent shape, but my numbers (cholesterol, blood pressure, etc) have gotten better every year without me changing anything. I think it's 100% because of the food because I don't exercise much.

Works fantastic. You affix the work to the slide and slice of pieces like bread. It’s got built in indexing in 16th inch notched with infinitely fine adjustment. I can accurately cut veneer down to a 64th of an inch.

Just watched this, very interesting! For restraining your vertical wood storage-take one of those boards (a narrow one) and clamp it to the horizontal storage supports that are sticking out, at least until you put in the chain. Or do it with a couple 4’ 2x2s... If you’re worried, make sure they’re high enough that little ones can’t reach them.

Just a thought. Nice shop! Some day... hopefully in the very near future... without getting into trouble lol...

@31:50 I've never lost a body part or been burnt. But now that I'm older and wiser, I'm always worried that I might have an accident. Saftey is always implemented after a shop is built, usually as an after thought. I like the positioning of the easy to access band-aids (I assume other first aid supplies) and fire extinguisher. It looks as though that it was implemented as part of the design right from the start. Thus, it doesn't look out of place, or tacked on.

An incredible journey, from a young man in a shed, to a married father in a fantastic workshop. I have, like many thousands, watched you over the years, copied some builds, but never as good, I'm now a 68 year old retired fart from England, and still love you videos, you beam when you speak of your beautiful daughter, I remember your excitement when you first announced her imminent arrival, congratulations Jay, you have worked hard for you success, and it has been a pleasure to witness. ONE THING , I would love a video of a shop tour with a costing of the equipment you have out of curiosity, would be so informative, anyway, once again a big thanks, and a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY A HEALTHY NEW YEAR, from Garry in the UK

As an avid watcher of the channel there wasn't much that was new to me, but regardless, it was still a riveting 36 minutes as always!! I love shop tours!

Hey Jay, great new shop ! Love the Paulk style assembly table, I have an MFT table with the 20mm dog hole system but I also use the Festool or micro jig dovetail clamps which slip right into the dog holes as long as there’s no support rails in the way . I’m sure this comment was already made but I haven’t looked through the comments, if so sorry for wasting your time. Have a great weekend, love the daughter and dog pics !

Not in a fun punny way.. That was infinitely funnier than actually using the pun. Lol. Sweet shop man thanks for the tour.

Really enjoyed how you described what your projects are and the goal of having them educational and inspirational. The explanation itself is a real motivator!
Thanks for this and all the other videos!

I was literally going to comment that this is awesome to have in the background while watching the Hawks/Vikings today, but didn't want to comment off-topic. Then 11:56 happened and so here I am! Also, I saved this video to come back to at different stages of organizing my own space. Thanks for the tour Jay!

Love your wood shop not a wood worker but I love to learn a lot of thins so I can teach my daughter so she can be more independent and work just for her and not for others.

Same issue with my bandsaw fence - I back mine up with a magswitch. Great video, your presentation style keeps things interesting. Also, Hail State! Class of '15.

Love your shop man! That's just about the same setup that I've pictured in my head when me and the mrs. Buy our "forever" home. Also your daughter is adorable ! Looks like you're living your beat life bud! Congrats on everything
