  • I've been using the Ugmonk Analog for about 3 months now and completely thrown their suggested way to use the tool out the window and created a better and simpler way to use this cool little productivity product.
You be the judge... Is this a better way? Drop a comment below and let me know.

Thanks for sharing! I actually love seeing people use Analog and hack it in different ways that work for them rather than just following the system that works best for me. The outro had me smiling :)

Thanks for creating a beautiful block of wood that holds note cards. Ha!
Seriously though… I use it everyday day. Love it. 👊🏼

I think you missed the point of the Someday and next cards, they are really all about focusing on today! When I'm working on my daily tasks, all these distracting thoughts come up "oh, I need to book this" or "oh yeah, I wonder what this is called in Icelandic" and "I should write to that friend", or "my desk is so messy, I should clean it up", instead of letting myself get distracted by those thoughts and actually do them instead of my today tasks, I note them down in the next or someday cards and continue focusing on my today tasks knowing that I have at least written them down somewhere. As it happens, when I look at those notes again at a later time, I realise most were not that important and disregard them. I save so much time not acting on them! The "next" ones are awesome for things that I'm gonna do soon but don't need to focus on today, write them down on next and focus on today. So you see, it's not distracting from today, quite the opposite, I use them to empty my brain on thoughts that would otherwise distract me from today. I find them incredibly useful to avoid procrastination. I call them my "procrastinate procrastination" lists 😁

Really appreciate you sharing how you use this system and those cards imparticular. I certainly understand the point of those cards. My brain just works a tad different and I don't find myself in those sorts of distraction loops all too often. Well, somedays I do if I'm being honest with myself. All and all, that's why I love about these sorts of analog systems. You can kinda make them your own in a way.

I just use the next and someday cards as “today” cards to save paper. Might as well use ‘em!

i liked the idea but found the product very, almost offensively, overpriced. here's what I did in case anyone else is thinking about trying this: I went to the dollar store and bought a pack of 200 ruled index cards, a dry erase board, rubber bands, and binder clips for a total of $4. I hung the dry erase board next to my desk and wrote my "Next" and "Someday" tasks there, then I collected 30 index cards per month, hold them together with a binder clip, and use one per day for my daily tasks. when a month is done, i plan to bind that month with a rubber band, store it away, and move onto my next 30 cards. been working great for 3 weeks now.

We took inspiration from the Ugmonk system and made our own simplified cards. There is only one card with a bold line on top where you can write anything you like and 12 task lines. The idea is to use it according to your needs but with the following principle : one card for every day and one card per month (for those general and more work intensive tasks that decomposes into multiple smaller tasks).
It works great for us and gives us the flexibility to adapt the period on a card if needed.
(what we clearly miss now is the nice wood block to hold our task cards)

I use NEXT for next week; and SOMEDAY for next month reminders OR use them as PROJECT MANAGERS for task lists for specific projects --- then move tasks on the list to daily card

Not so much abolished the next card, instead has merged it into the daily card beneath the line he draws himself…

I just found these cards today. I’ve been doing the same thing for years with just blank memo cards, but these are more elegant. I only want the today cards though.

I actually bought and used the analog because of this video and at first I really enjoyed it, but now I don't use it as much anymore. I find it must more convenient to use a small notepad as it can be slightly bigger than the ugmonk analog paper and I can also carry it with me in my pocket anywhere I go.

That’s awesome that you found something that works for you. And yeah, a small note pad is super portable. I love the smaller “field notes” myself. Do you still you the same to-do system?

I’m with you on part 1, I never use the “next” and “someday” cards, I just don’t plan that far ahead in my life. Also, particularly for a “someday” card, it would take too much space on the holder and probably be there for a while. So that’s why I don’t use those.
I really like your part 2, and it will get me using the Analog a lot more, because honestly I stopped using it a few months after receiving it last year. By drawing the top line and focusing on no more than 3 key tasks for a day, you avoid getting frustrated if you don’t finish all tasks in a day, and it gives a clear visual cue to bring leftover tasks to the next day.
Props to the Jeff at Ugmonk for being receptive to new ways to use his products, I’ve been a big fan of all Ugmonk products (apparel and more) for over a decade!

So can you order just the "today" cards or do you get all 3 and they go to waste?

    • @KevinFremon
      @KevinFremon  2 года назад +2

I just order the refills and just use the other cards as “today cards” that way none go to waste.

Thanks for sharing. I've modified my use of Ugmonk Analog the same way. I always work in the Present in my Daily Sprint actions and tasks, not the future. Question : What is the Sharpie pen that you use?

I'm in the works of making a wooden template plate, scaled to the cards, so i can easily make the same template on every backside of every card.

You could DIY your own with a block of wood from Home Depot and pack of index cards from Amazon and basically have the same set up. Not as good looking but would do the same job.

if you. know the meaning of records and taking pride in your work , you would not toss your records like you, your suggestions should be tossed out , it seems you have no respect for your own time or work , once a week after the tasks are recorded with due care , discard the cards , until such time it best kept in the UG Box , take care stop tossing your life around else you will keep needing more tools
