Maybe instead of chickens, you could put up a small greenhouse at the bottom of the garden.

She could tear the plastic with her nails. I watched a professional pond install by my aquarium guy and they use fabric then plastic then more fabric because it’s so much trouble to replace the torn plastic once it has rocks covering it.
😅Be careful, you are planting your view away...the pond is fabulous as the rest of the garden...I made one that looked very much like yours about 25 years ago...got to the point that the racoons would come in every couple years and eat my big beautiful fish in one sitting so ended up filling in the pond and making a flat rock patio which is much more perfect for this time in my life. Tried to send you pic of my new patio but cannot figure out how if even possible. The pond is just like I saw it when you got you're home beautiful with the rocks around it expensive to get rocks in the UK better to have fish they can't get out and walk , the turpin eat fish I've never really liked them because they eat the fish in where I did ballroom dancing . The manager said my goldfish keep going missing I was 10 year's old told him the turpins are eating them lol 😂 was funny he thought someone was stealimg them he got rid of them after that you're ond looks like it's been there a while such a brilliant job ❤❤❤
We had a pond years ago. Your doing a great job ! Be careful if you get fish because they multiply fast and can be a real problem. Your garden gets more beautiful every day. ❤️❤️ Chickens will destroy things and poop everywhere 😂
You only have ice crystals in the moss because moss is a great insulator. It quickly leaves the open areas. Your plan for the lower garden is so well thought-out. The trees and shrubs you have planted seem to know that they are safe now and at home. They can root and grow without any fears. Your Banty and silky hens will feel the same way. I, too, can see the chicks you will have in the spring. They will have a gorgeous little coop and will fit in so well with the creatures and flowers. Hens are not destroyers - they are rearrangers 🫣. You just need to keep them contained so they will be safe and your plantings will be intact. Our 12 chicks of last spring are now thriving hens with personalities and yummy beautiful eggs 🥚. But we do have too many 😳. Wish we could send some to you….
Hi Alla, Sergi, & Cherie! Love the pond, Alla. With respect to birch & willow trees, please research the roots of those trees to make sure they won’t destroy the retaining wall. Roots that grow straight down are okay, while lateral growth is not. I purchased a solar powered fountain for my brother-in-laws koi pond. He loves it and says the frogs moved in and sunbathe on the lily pads!
Pizza 🍕 is my favorite food actually I bought a few pizzas 🍕 at a local pizzeria and zip locked it in freezer bags and put it in my freezer it is my Christmas 🎄 Treat to myself during the holidays all for myself such a treat
The pond looks great!!! The shallow looks fantastic, very well designed. Do you have a spillway for it when there are heavy rains? Could bury a PVC pipe to help it drain where you want it to. Might still over flow, but you can control it a bit more with the right size and it isn't hard to disguise with rocks. That size you don't need too big of a pump if you decide to get one. And you would easily just have it pump to a decorative waterfall like feature. I'm guessing you aren't putting fish in it? Forewarning if you do add fish it takes A LOT more maintenance (had a pond for 20 years). You'd need aeration of some sort, small fountain or waterfall feature, small heater in the winter if it freezes over at all. And draining and mucking every year (which smells awful). And if the fish having babies, making sure you don't have too many and where you can take the extra and not dumping something considered invasive. We were lucky as we have a much much larger pond on our land to take the extra's out to. Oh also, animal predators would be a big issue for that pond without a net or wire cover. We had a 8 real Koi taken by predators before realizing that mistake for us.
Pond looks amazing. Please do not put chicKen’s in the garden. The space is too small. It would be cruel. They might also peck at your fish in the pond! Just be aware that turtles may go into your canal as they are great escape artists! Garden is looking stunning❤

Very nice job with the small pond! From personal experience my advice is to remove all those rocks from the bottom of the pond. Even if now those stones look nice and makes the pond look more "natural", in few months these will be covered by algae and debris and the further cleaning of the pond will be much more annoying and time consuming. With the bare liner on the bottom of the pond will be much easier to clean everything up and keep the water clear and algae free for longer. The liner will be covered anyway by algae and debris that will help to conceal it giving a very natural look anyway.
Fish and frogs need deeper water and less stones in bottom. I have had two ponds for thirty years so I know fogs need water to develop when young and turtles eat fish and frogs.
When I lived in Asheville NC, my brother and I built a pond in my garden and one day I went outside and there was a BEAR in it! Not kidding. There was a black bear in my pond, which was about the size of yours. It was a very hot day and she needed to take a little dip. It was incredible!. I think you could put the chickens, the compost bin, and the bees in the little garden. And FYI the turtles will eat the fish.
Azaleas will work around the pond and for the chickens think more a blind box thats half underground to give them good shelter and a green roof of casading trailing plants
Wow Alla looks lovely!!! I would avoid fish in the pond that could end up with a lot of hard work and dirty water. We have a pond with fish and ended up being such hard work we rehomed the fish. Your garden is going to look gorgeous when all done . 💗

Amazing Job Alla!! Not sure if you can get this in Italy or if you’re interested but there is a product that is like a glue and keeps the small rocks from kicking up on the stepping stones. It’s called rock glue or gravel binder.
Thanks for sharing your ideas for the woodland garden. Have you considered hydrangeas for a windbreak and privacy? They grow up to 20 feet and require very little maintenance. 😊
You can’t keep chickens locked up in a small coup and speaking from experience chickens make a terrible mess scratching up the garden. Maybe you should have bought a farm,
Maybe put your energy into the house renovation. The garden is out of space. Chicken ill eat the kitchen green waste but need protection and they will eat the garden as other chateaux owners have learned. Be sue you are aware f hat you are getting into.. Also some of these trees get huge ,you need to research them.
For such a small garden I don´ t think chickens is such a good idea. They will scratch up your plants with their feets as they look for food and make holes when they have their sandbaths. I love chickens and belive they really need to roam more freely, not in a garden.
