- Today I will take you on a little tour to my Woodland Garden. Its such a pleasure to have parts with shades in the garden and here I’m not only playing with flowers but also with foliage an leave plants, who like the shade. I love playing with different shades of green and to create structure I also have some garden antiques around.
My name is Claus Dalby, and I live in Risskov on the outskirts of Aarhus in Denmark. To date, I have written about 30 books on flowers and gardens in Danish, and my garden has been featured on many TV shows. In March 2022 my first book in English will be available. I consider my home (built in1908), and its garden with its neighboring wood, as my sanctuary. When I started gardening in 1996, there was just a large lawn covering approximately 1 acre (4,000 square meters), but today the grass is long gone - replaced by 15 hedged rooms with varying colors and moods. Additionally, one of my great passions is growing in pots, arranged to create spectacular container gardens, which I will share quite a bit about on this channel. Decor and creating moods have always interested me - both outside and inside - and I love to use the flowers from my garden for bouquets and to inspire other crafts that create a sense of hygge.

Am I the only one who would have enjoyed a longer garden tour? I mean the planting varieties and their combinations are drool worthy. I could watch this again and again and see something different every time.

Textural layering in this area is *gorgeous* . How could anyone walk by without exploring this? Ok Claus, you've really got me drawn to those two very large leaf plants (Astilboides tabularis & Rodgersia podophylla). I'm convinced I need both of them, LOL!🤩

Hello Aspasia how are you doing?
Just beautiful🌿
Thank you! 😊
Thank you for sharing such a beautiful woodland spot. Gorgeous foliage! That Lamium looked so similar to our stinging nettle (Pacific Northwest), I winced when you lifted up the leaves. :-o. :-D
Thank you Claus. Such a beautiful, peaceful garden. Wow! I’ve never seen a tree peony that tall. Gorgeous!

Hello how are you doing ?
I so love your woodland garden!! I would love to spend a day in it!! 💕
Me too!!
I love your woodland garden, it is so enchanting!
This woodland garden is such a beautyful place. I love this shady and colorful area
It is exciting to see a woodland garden. We are urged to plant more trees for carbon capture, but planting a garden with trees takes more thought. Fortunately you have done most of the work. Thank you.
I garden in a forest. Very challenging! So this is great! Bought your book too!
I can feel your excitement as you describe each plant and they can too, which is why they perform so well in your Beautiful garden. Thanks for sharing.
Love your channel.
So nice of you
Such a great video full of wonderful ideas on the often overlooked shade garden. I really appreciated the advice to cut down early the plant I know as bleeding hearts in order for it to regenerate foliage for the rest of the growing season. If possible, please present another video on the red and burgundy leafed plants in your shade garden. Many thanks!
Gorgeous garden
So nice of you
My favorite so far! Stunning!

So nice of you
Loved viewing your woodland garden. Wrote down about half dozen plants mentioned to see how they might handle my zone 6 area with high humidity. Thank you very much for sharing your garden. I love yellow also.
Wonderful!
Wow what a peaceful beautiful garden. Just love it. Thanks for sharing the information about cutting back dicentra, also how to cut viburnum for flower arranging.
So nice of you
Thank you so much for sharing so many beautiful flowers and sharing the shade ones. I have a very large shade area in my yard all summer long there is no sun that gets through just too many trees in the winter that there is sun in there because all the trees lose their leaves so I was very interested in your Woodland garden and on top of that I do a lot of fairy gardens in my yard so this will make it easier for me to try to find something that will work well thank you so much for all your wonderful tips hugs and kisses from grandma Sandy and Debbie. Love the balloon garden thing thank you for sharing it with us
Thank you so much for telling about your place
Beautiful, I always enjoy so much a video visit through your garden, thanks for sharing its inspiring beauty with us!

Forget the pup. The plants are so much more interesting.
Thank you Claus! I appreciate seeing more plants that I can add to my own shade garden in Portland Oregon USA. It is my peaceful place.

It’s so beautiful that it brings tears to my eyes! Just stunning! You have such a gift! Thank you for sharing it with the world!❤️
Wow, thank you!
I really like the arches with the urn planter as a focal point.
I have a betula jacquemontii, multi stemmed
As always, your garden is sublime. This woodland garden is a real departure from the vibrant containers you showcase. It is equally beautiful, and so serene.
In a previous video, you featured Sissinghurst in Kent. I have visited it and it is superb, but on a much bigger site. I find your garden just as unique and awe inspiring. I can barely control my excitement when I see that you have posted another video. Thank you so much for sharing with us.
After a crazy and disappointing day seeing your beautiful garden that I would love to just sit and spend time in and the wonderful music is so soothing. Thank you!
So nice of you
Love your garden, so beautiful and lush with great diversity!
Thank you Claus. Videos of your beautiful gardens are a favorite respite.
So nice of you
Beautiful gardens.
Yes, thank you
Absolutely glorious, Claus!! I adore woodland gardens, and yours is inspirational!! Thankyou for sharing!!
So nice of you
Claus your woodland garden is a wonderful place, serene and peaceful ❤️
Thanks for visiting
A very beautiful wild garden Claus, which might help those with difficult areas. Without clearing land, a small part planted with mixed saplings, tough plants and shrubs, then small areas cleared and planted too. Romans brought ground elder to England where it's a pernicious weed; wild garlic is too. Ferns are wonderful because the dead leaves make a mulch.Dead tree trunks get fungi, attract bugs, feed birds. Magical places!
So very beautiful, thank you for sharing it with us..
What a beautiful woodland garden! So many different plants. Can’t wait to see future videos of this peaceful setting.💜
More to come!
Very beautiful!
Love the shady woodland garden.
A part of nature at its best.
Couldn't agree more!
The geranium was so lovely…
I love shady gardens.
This one is beautiful.
So beautiful! your plants are huge! I live outside of Montreal, Québec, Canada and we have some varieties like you, much they don't grow as big! Thank you for the tour and introduction to new plants that I had never seen before!
My pleasure - and thank you for joining me.
Hello Claus - Just found your channel and wow! This is one of my favorite examples of a shade garden.
I have to find one of those Rodgersia podophylla "bronze form".
Thank you for sharing
My pleasure! And a big welcome to my channel.
Thank you so very much for the tour of your beautiful garden. You have so many diverse and unique plants that are new to me. I’m always on the lookout for new plant varieties, so this video is especially helpful and as always beautiful. Keep them coming! Where’s Nero? I miss seeing him in your video. 😀
Hello Bella how are you doing?
I so love Kiringashoma!! It isn't used very much here in the U.S. That I can see. I also have the Kiringashooma Koreana; not much difference that I can see. Thank you for your tour!!
Your knowledge is amazing!
Magical!
Claus, it is always an inspiration to see your gardens. You outshine Sissinghurst!
So nice of you
I agree x 🌱🌿🌲🌳💚🕊️😇🙏🇦🇺
So peaceful> I enjoyed the tour very much. Calif. USA
Thank you very much!
Beautiful tour of the woodlands the texture and color draws you in so peaceful. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
Claus, your woodland garden is absolutely beautiful. Very interesting video. Please could you give some advice on dealing with lilly beatles. They've shredded the leaves of my martagon lilies!
Please let the little creatures be x 🌱🌿🌲🌳💚🕊️😇🙏🇦🇺
Wow, so lush and just magical. I'm wondering if your winters are milder than mine because so many of these plants I've never seen. I am in Connecticut, US. The winter here can go down to -17 c to -20 c, though it is rare. (Nomi)
A beautiful fairy garden. It is a dream of mine. but it is too hot in my country.
I was so looking forward to see Claus’ woodland garden. It helps a lot to re-imagine mine, which is also half-shade so I can ‘steal’ many of these ideas. One question about the two lilies: are they fragrant? I have a moderate allergy to the smell of lilies, and usually avoid them (other than day lilies). THX
The shade loving martagon lilies (the first ones in the video) are not fragrant. They are really wonderful plants for a shady garden and come in many colors though pink is the most common one.
