I always use a mechanical pencil to sketch in my base line work for freehand, you can get everything looking nice and symmetrical without committing at all, a brush dipped in water over it will immediately remove it if you make a mistake, then just paint over the lines, much easier.
My dad did his as an ultramarine, then it lived in a display case in a gw store for several years before they sent it to me. Now it guards my loft in a fully armoured cardboard box.
Haha the last time you had a cobalt keep sponsorship video you caused me to buy EIGHT cases and I do have to say, Shipping to Canada was not the cheapest but Cobalt keep was very great at working with me to find the cheapest way to get the containers to me here in Canada. I bought 8 because 2x Set of 4 was cheaper than 6x Individual box so I just ended up picking a 4th kill team (and my wife a 4th one too) to fill up the 7th and 8th cases. Cases are great, Your recommendation is great, and Cobalt keep is very easy to work with and very helpful. I recommend fully.
Love it, the Templar cross on the face adds so much, as design features go it does its job of focusing the attention to the right spot perfectly. I've Invested in a Elegoo Saturn S now to make sure I can get your monthly minis as quick as possible...and to save on postage to England. Great job guys :)
I've enjoyed watching your skills improve with each new project you take on. That and your seemingly unwavering enthusiasm make this one of my favorite hobby channels. (edit for grammar)
i watch alot of hoppy videos on YT for varius reasons and i have to say EoB makes verry enjoyable videos, i find myself watching videos as soon as they come out. The fun you guys have on this channel and in the hobby realy transfers trough the video and i love having found this chanel a few months back
Thats incredible! I also watched one of your old old old videos and I have to say your presentation and editing have come so far, excited to see where yall go!
Love it, you really nailed that dull shiny look without going full NMM, it's like an old bronze statue. Medium Metallic Metal, if you will And yeah, the whole 'white dots on the outer corners thing always confused me too - if they were reflections then they'd be similarly placed (both right/left or whatever) instead of symmetrical and it really looks a mite off at this scale. At the usual size it's a lot easier to over look and they probably just don't want everyone's eyes to look wonky, the outer corner providing a handy guide is just a bonus. With the added scale I think you could definitely afford to ditch that convention for more realistic reflection placement
Well after checking out kobalt keep I have to say......God damn it. Shipping to the UK essentially doubles the price. Let's hope a UK branch will pop up eventually.
I don't build anything anymore. But watching your videos is really starting to spark up that fire I had. Thank you brother. I really enjoy your vids. I would say you are the blacksmith of Warhammer.
It's always a joy to watch your videos! Extremely entertaining and often I get ideas I want to try out. And your enthusiasm is so contagious! And the Templar does look really slick. I've never painted a bust, they feel like incomplete models to me. But I'd love that Forgeworld Space Marine!
I'm glad Jay clarified the nuclear option that is stripping a paint job, I inherited the Skaven blood bowl star player with two heads and it was more paint than metal - definitely too much additive in that process!
I found your channel at the same time I decided to restart painting miniatures from Games Workshop. I had huge armies that were the Aeldar, Elves, Space Wolves, Undead (one I kept, didn't give away or sell), and a handful of the larger dragon riders and mechs for the two sides of miniatures at the time I had been painting before. Twenty some years ago.
I agree the best thing you've painted in 2022! Maybe ever so far! Great job! Which as for resin sanding I would do it outside over a trash can with trash bag so Birds won't acdently eat it...But yeah as much as I like resin that is a big concern for me... Which my collect is like 1/3rd resin, 1/3 rd metal and 1/3rd plastic so yeah fortunaly only the plastic are really the only things that need to be asembled.
It would be interesting to see you paint up an HG 1/144th scale Gundam model like a Zaku II, a Gelgoog, or a Gouf (either a B-model or a B-3 Custom, with its Gatling gun shield attachment!) using 40K techniques. I have seen a few people do it, but would be curious to see how you would do it. I mentioned the three Zeon mobile suits above specifically as they have plenty of areas to place Black Templar symbols, especially on shields, shoulder pads, legs, and backpacks.
I'd probably paint its as ancient overgrown stone, have age be its strength, and make it terrain. But maybe use purple, blue and black like ultimate venom for a black templar appearance.
This is really interesting. You started out and I was like 'well hey you can paint figures pretty good, what's the problem?' but the techniques and effects really do scale very differently. Practice them bigatures!
You should get a leviathan or contemptor dreadnought I would love to see how a leviathan dreadnought turns out.I am trying right now to black templarify one.
The detailing of the eyes is very nice, but makes it hard to look at the model straight on without thinking his eyes are going in two different directions. Much better from a side view.
The helmet of the Forge World models looks a bit off doesn't it? The Garage kit one looks much better. Awesome paint job btw! On the topic of lenses I prefer your white line approach much better than GWs way. (Video idea to paint a bunch of helms with different lenses techniques? Just saying)
Gotta disagree with you, while the McFarlane figures might have lackluster paint apps, they have allowed a lot of people to create some amazing customs.
Being a salamander fan i disapprove of the salamander icon removal
I know right? That was a little painful to watch. Such a nice pauldron too.
It's okay brother, we can make another one

That's one fine paint job, and I'd love to see you paint those chibis like that other video you did.
Great work guys, keep the vids rolling in
Glorious, just Glorious I don't have any other words to describe your work, man it's so good, well done Jay

Thats incredible!

Specular highlights come from the direction of the light source.
Having two separate sources for the eyes makes him seem crosseyed or out of place.
Absolutely stunning, I agree with you he’s the best thing you have painted in 2022 and that’s saying something!
I would totally hesitate to paint that Forge World relic too... but awesome work on the garage kit!
That was one awesome paint job! Looks amazing!

Phenomenal!!! Your painting is something to strive for!
That paint job is excellent. Definitely good enough to make Helbrecht and the emperor himself proud.
Great appearance by Shocko!

amazing job. the eyes look so good on the big scale
Looks amazing. I can't wait to watch the painting of the big boy. Like button smashed.
praise be brother, lovely black templars and work!
Excellent paint job really inspiring

Awww yea, love that crusading wiggle. Great!

That paintjob is AWESOME.
I’ve recently learned that Bondo can be a life saver if you ground a little too much off. Good for filling in printer lines too.
Excellent video as usual Jay thanks again. Your black templar bust looks amazing too.
Cobalt Keep is actually run by Trazyn
When are you painting the big statue?!
Wow- that looks amazing. What a fantastic job! I’m super impressed, inspired, and more than a little jealous😆
Loved every minute of this! Looking forward to the FW model mate ! Keep it up
Ah damn, I regret that I never bought that model :(
incredible model, I’m very jealous 😁 GW make this in plastic please!

Dude i doubt you could ruin a model. Your painting is epic
crazy level as always
Amazing! If you get a shrine, it might be very cool to get some sword brethren to watch vigilantly over it...

What an awesome watch
Love the color on the shoulder pauldrons.
Amazing video. I've spotted your videos before but this made me subscribe.
Ngl the sponsor came in cluch. Im about to move and I havent moved with my models before so 20% really helped cushion some of that cost
Jay: I bought something
Everyone: 🤯
I literally just watched your pile of shame video with this figure in it!
10,000 point battle report
12:43 he is also a Gryffindor!
It looks great. You are ready…
It would have been neat to paint his chest shield white and use like 3 templar cross transfers on it. Just an idea for the future :)
You gotta tell us where you got that garage kit from man! I would love to get my hands on it :)
That looks damn awesome.
Beautiful work
Fantastic job on the bust!
At 12:25, Valarak almost had a heart attack.
That looks so good! Amazing work jay!!!
Looks awesome, if you made the stand into the black templar logo i think that would have been an awesmone thing to take it to a next level
Man those detailing are dope!
I wish I picked it up back in the day 😔
A fine tip pencil can help out line too.
Afraid... You... No... That bust turned out awesome! Great video! I have two 75mm models that scares me also. Still not painting mine yet 😆
Im definitely wanting to start working with busts, they really push you oyt of your comfort zone, eell done!
That came out so dope! I just started painting, youve definitely inspired me to get better
4:58 NOOOOOOO!!! (you shoulda just painted him as a Salamander)
The symbol across the mask looks sick af.
Those lenses are bad ass.
That bolter looks like it's begging for an LED enhanced muzzle flash and cases ejecting out the side 👀
awesome paint job
Great video! Very inspirational, thank you
I love the symbol on the face
You killed it!
Cool he painted a dread nought pilot without his suit
Bro that looks fantastic

armor of content!
So did he ever paint the big one? I tried finding the video but couldn't.
Did you end up painting the original model? I can't find it in your videos?
for all my lenses i do a white, then a coat or two of the gw gem paints
I`d love to watch you pinting a chibi squad :D
Wow I have never seen that before
Great work 👏

I mean, they are different helmets, but Yeah the FW one is a little squiffy looking.
I'd love to pick up that garage kit, where did you get it? If you can even get it anymore?
Where could I find that bust? I build and paint scale armor and would love to try my hand at Warhammer miniatures.
Gotta disagree with you, while the McFarlane figures might have lackluster paint apps, they have allowed a lot of people to create some amazing customs.
where can i find this on forge world??
Somewhere Vulkan is sad...great work though.
Is that baking paper attached to the lamp to diffuse it?
