Another great video showing actual photos and minimal “gear talk.” Great to see the photographer at work, creating images, providing insight, and giving a clear “use case” for a lens. This is the way!
Thanks!! Glad we achieved that. I was getting worried we're slipping into gear review channel territory haha. But I do like getting interesting free lenses to try out creatively. :)
You might like the quote, "Shoot the verb, not the noun." There are many similar quotes not related to photography so I don't think I can pin down a source.
Happy New Year, Lukasz! Enjoyable vid, pics illustrate “suggestion” theme, especially the silhouettes. “I hope it’s water.”😂 Nice. Does the lens have weather sealing? So you are expanding the “franchise” and becoming a multi-national? Super. Cheers!
Happy new year! I don't know if it has weather sealing. It's not mentioned on their site. But the lens is well-built with tight tolerances so it might be okay. But I generally risk all my gear in the rain, even non-sealed stuff, and don't have issues usually. :)
Yeah, it's new! I was surprised when I heard about it too. It's hefty but not too heavy at 540 grams. On the Z9, most primes feel small haha. Basically, it feels well balanced and handles nicely. And since we shot this video I've been using it a lot and really love it. It's staying in my kit!
Great shot. And very good explanation. The 85mm seems strange to me for street photography, but now I get it. Also the first time I heard that Robert Doisneau quote, but it definitely is a good one!
Nice Video! As a Sony shooter I am lucky and can use the excellent Sigma 85/1.4 DG DN ART for night secession. I am living in Thailand, like Bangkok very much for street, but also Hong Kong und Osaka is very good.
I don’t mind you using different lenses/gear, it’s not a gear review in my opinion, it’s just seeing the possibilities of a certain focal length in your hands. I also don’t mind because most of the time they are also interesting lenses for me 😂. It doesn’t change who you are and how you explain and show things/your work, the videos have the same vibe as always. This all is my personal opinion of course haha 😂. But keep it up! Greetz Swen
Haha, wow, that would be a fun challenge. I mean, it's definitely doable, strictly speaking, but it would be very tough. Either I would be using very slow shutter speeds or very high ISO (not ideal). But, I'll consider it as a fun challenge video, kinda like we did with that 500mm a while back, which was totally impractical haha. :)
Very nice great video. Question: I use to use a UV filter on my lenses, but I haven’t been doing it for years. Maybe I should go back to doing that especially for lots of my photography because you’re outdoors. What do you suggest? Street can be demanding on gear. Do you use them amways? Can you tell any difference when you use a UV filter or not? Do you always use one for lens protection? Which one do you use?
Thank you! I never use UV filters. I feel it's an unnecessary extra piece of glass. I never really tested if I can see the difference, but I've also never had a lens front element get damaged in over 15 years of shooting in all kinds of conditions.
hi lukasz! cool set of photos as always! but i've always wondered how do you edit your photos? were you using your own preset? i've always liked how unassuming or subtle but still striking your color grading process is. anyways, happy holidays!
Thanks! You're in luck, we have a few editing streams available on the channel. Check them out here: www.youtube.com/@EYExplore/streams But basically, I don't use presets and edit each photo from scratch every time. But I do kinda have mental presets. I know what I want to do with a photo before I even start. :)
Are you really thinking of branching out to more areas?!! If yes, then please consider Fukuoka, Japan and then Busan and Seoul in South Korea. Asking for selfish reasons 😆.
I placed the lens order today. I've noticed that you consistently take your average metering at -7ev. Is the underexposed photograph OK for Lightroom coloring? thanku
Thank you!! Yeah, I set it to -0.7 but actually this looks correct to me. The compensation is relative to the camera's metering. And I feel that my camera overexposes the images a bit, so I compensate to make them correct. :)

Perfect timing! I just got myself a 85mm for christmas and this video is great inspiration
Awesome! Enjoy the lens! :)
Another great vid, Lukasz. And a timely primer to get me back into the groove before heading to Morocco next month! Best wishes for the New Year
Thank you!! Morocco... Nice! Have a great time and a happy new year! :)
Great video. Loved watching it right to the end ❤👍
Awesome!! Thank you so much for that!! :)

Ah that's a nice way to put it! Thank you! :)
A nice lens, Lukasz. I love the abstraction vibe of your shots in this video.
Thank you!! I'm glad you enjoyed them! :)
For anyone wondering about Lukasz’s book, I got a copy of it and it’s great. You should get one too!
Thank you so much for saying so!!! :)

Great photos. And the Lens looks massive! Does it feel heavy attached to your Z9? I didn’t know Sirui had an 85mm lens.

You should try the Sigma 18-35 and 50-100 f1.8 (aps-c lens) that should work well on the Z9 still plenty of megapixels.
Yeah, those have always interested me! :)
Great content as always.
Thank you!! :)

Well, I'm very glad to hear that!! Thank you! :)
Can you do a f8 at night video to see if that 28-400mm f4-8 is usable at night?
Haha, wow, that would be a fun challenge. I mean, it's definitely doable, strictly speaking, but it would be very tough. Either I would be using very slow shutter speeds or very high ISO (not ideal). Lubie ogladac . Podoba minsie klimat ktory tam jest. Chyba dlatego zawsze wracam do Ciebie
Dziękuję! Ciesze się ze cis się nasze video podobają! :)

What aperture is this video shot in?
I would guess wide-open at f/1.8, but unfortunately, there is no EXIF data in the video files so I can't be sure.
Are you really thinking of branching out to more areas?!! If yes, then please consider Fukuoka, Japan and then Busan and Seoul in South Korea. Asking for selfish reasons 😆.
Yes, but we are looking for people in those areas who want to share their workshop via our website. :)

I just checked the shop in Germany - seems to be in high demand, it is sold out for now, 9 hrs after your video...
Cool! I guess it's popular. I can see why. I really like it and have been using it often since shooting this video. :)
be carefull with lasers I’ve seen those blue ones if it hits your sensor could damage it
Oh really. Good to know! Thanks! :)
you look like rick in walking dead
Haha, I've heard that maaaaaaany times. :)
Aren't you worried about that expensive stuff with you, on the street, in the night?.. Is it not dangerous there?.. Good luck! D.
Not one bit worried. Japan is a safe country. :)
Que fotógrafo tan odioso al estar hostigando a las personas. 👎👎👎
LOL
