    Agree 100%, considered 250 went with a new 2.8 78 Troopy ( i didnt need rear seat and makes a great camper setup ) , the 76 wagon is another option for a 5 door if you need it. The new 70s drive much better than the old, comfort comparable to a new dual cab, not as comfortable as a Prado ( I had one ) but Im happy with the 78, rugged, low tech, double the payload of a 250.

    Thanks Anthony - nearly bought a Prado Kakadu but decided on a 2010 diesel Hilux during Covid for a bargain $18200 in Toorak from a young FIFO mining lad - I needed something for an aluminium tray/touring lift on setup and farm tray work - it is in immaculate condition and has an auto transmission, ABS, cruise control and all window/mirror electrics including steering wheel controls for infotainment system - I service myself every 6 mths and just touched 300000km so transmission service and injector inspections next - fantastic reliable, economical and practical vehicle and pre-DPF. If I was to buy a dedicated 2 person tourer it would be the new automatic diesel Troopcarrier.

      Agree with you comment. My fj has done lots of offroad touring, desert and other outback and tough tracks all over Australia. Over 190,000km ( about 120,000 miles for your calculation)
      Never let me down, always well maintained.

    I would buy the 300. I love the look of new Prado and I am sure they are excellent, but it needs the V6 diesel of the 300. I wish they want to bring out a proper diesel hybrid. It would make for the best towing vehicle. It just need the electric motor for stop and start functions, kicking in on overtaking or going up hill and recharge downhill so you don’t waste the energy braking with a load behind you. All manufacturers make the engines smaller with hybrid. Keep it the same size for towing and improve the consumption through the hybrid system.

    Your right about Toyota petrol hybrids. Spot on Anthony, we have a 2024 Yaris Cross, love it, getting 3.8l per 100 on the way back from our shack this morning.
    Ronnie Dahl bought a Prado, he said the hybrid system does getvrid of lag on takeoff. He said thinks performance was better than the old one. He has 2.8 76 too. Unfortunately you cant keep your cars forever, you have to change over sometime.

    I have a 2019 Corolla non hybrid and on the highway it uses 5.5-6.0 litres per 100km. Not a fan of the CVT but it runs well and is economical compared to my LC200 TTV8.😂

    We can’t blame Toyota for mild hybrid setup. It is due to regulations they chosen this path.

  • @joeblack1052
    @joeblack1052 9 дней назад

    That hybrid system was really for the 2.4L petrol turbo 4 sold in America
    I am surprised they didnt offer it in Australia

    • @kaiwang985
      @kaiwang985 8 дней назад

      if they done that, the travel range will be reduced to only 600km. And I don't think you can keep towing the caravan with the 2.4 L petrol when the battery is flat.

    If you don't want a full-on cash splash, check the Big T auctions, my mate's Prado with everything done to it - is being replaced at 7000 km, 3 years old. Weird but true . . .

  • @kaiwang985
    @kaiwang985 8 дней назад

    Well, I like the petrol engine, but have you checked the fuel tank size of these 2.4L hybrid Prado in the US? The travel range is only 600km. With the caravan hooked on, I bet you can just drive up to 400km. Not even metion when the battery is flat, I don't think the 2.4L petrol can keep towing your staff at the back.

    it just seems to me that the automobile industry is just like every other industry that has market size. they're just privately owned state controlled enterprises that benefit the few who run it.
    we will all line up enthusiastically for the next gen product that isn't as good as the last but is much more expensive and less likely to deliver it's promises and is connected to the internet'
    if you're smart you'll stick to what you have now because there is nothing better that is on offer.

  • @praetorian3571

    For $80k, there are so many better options out there. 99% of people watching this video will not need a Prado or any 4x4, you better off getting another type of vehicle.
    Most of 4x4 will end up spending 90% of their time mall crawling.
    Personally for $80K I would buy one of the Euro wagon/estate options, for around $80K, you should be able to get in to a BMW 3 touring, Audi A4 Avant or the Mercedes C200/300/e400, they are all superior to any 4x4 when it comes to road manners, driving dynamic, style, refinement and practicality.
    Yes they don't have low range gear or the towing capacity, but honestly how often you towing or driving a low range gear? you will be lucky even once a year to drive on low range gear. Don't buy a car for a trip you plan to have once or twice a year, buy a car that you need for your %90 of your motoring needs, which is Inter-suburban traveling, interstate, do you need a truck?
    When you go to do a test drive a Prado or any 4x4, strongly recommend to drop in to one of the Euro dealer and test drive the wagon and see what you can get for $80K.
    I know some of you will go on about resale vale, service cost, reliability...etc! but its not as bad as some people make it out to be on the internet.
    This is coming from someone who use to own 4x4 for so many years and now driving a mid range Euro wagon for the last 2 years, the day I test drove a Euro wagon, never looked back and wish would have done the switch many years back.

      As they mentioned their main driver was fresh content for their YT channel which is their main source of income. But that decision does not make sense as they traded their Ranger with the dealer (so probably got stuff all) & had to bridge the rest with either finance or cash. So now they are talking smaller diameter rims for more rubber & lift kit. But they will most likely need a GVM upgrade on a brand new 4wd costing +$80k and still have the issue of the trans hunting up & down 8sp gears with the caravan behind it & no doubt max'd out on payload off the bat. Sounds like a poor decision for sure

    I’m not a fan of this new Prado or all this new tech coming out, I have owned 8 Toyotas including the FJ and 200 the rest were prados, I have decided to keep the 150 and will be buying a base model Ram v8 - no tech no turbo’s basic car and for me I’m not concerned about fuel economy so it’s my obvious choice.
