Well he put Bischoff out of a job because he took WWF out of the red and into major profit in 1998.
Russo can be annoying as most people in the wrestling business can be but he sure as hell deserves credit for what he did for the WWF. He gets too much of a bad rap and used way too much as a scapegoat.

Tony’s never helped set up a ring with his bare hands, taken a bump or worked under a booker taking direction. He deserves all the criticism he gets.
Tony says this like he started AEW the same time Verne, Fritz, Turner, and Crockett were promoting/running territories. Imagine if someone opens a store in a neighborhood and that store closes or moves and then another person opens that same type of store in the same area 20-30 years later and that person says "I outlasted the store that was here before". Tony sounds ridiculous and is becoming more cringe to listen to by the day.

They ultimately failed in the wrestling business after decades of success. Tony can exist in perpetuity in the wrestling hobby because his father is a billionaire.
In theory, the promoters of the past weren't failures. They established, and executed business that drew money but also was to expand in various ways. They went out of business after decades of business

Tony's never run a business, because a business has performance expectations/requirements. He's a rich kid hobbyist. Nothing more.
It felt rewarding to watch WWE from late 1997 through mid 1999, for example. Seeing great content IS rewarding.
Me and my freinds used to spark up a bifta religiously as the theme tune hit. Laughed our asses off all the way through. Cliff-hanger ending always left us talking afterwards.

Tony Khan needs to become a caricature of himself. The fact that he gives Russo consistent content he needs to run with that gimmick; however we all need to be in on the joke. AEW should fashion their show similar to a mockumentary like the office making fun of an incompetent leader who does not view himself as a bad leader.

Al Snow had the best point about Tony Khan - if he didn't have his own $ to cover the losses, he too would be out of business right now just like the rest of those guys. So it's not some matter of "I'm the last one standing because my promoting skills are better"
On the other hand, WWE was never even close to being as huge as they are now. AEW is up against a far bigger challenge than those other companies ever faced.

As a wrestling fan I'm highly offended that Tony approved AEW fight forever and basically lied in the commercials that advertise the game. Im highly offended there's no storyline progression on his tv shows Wednesday , Friday and Saturday. And RoH died during the pandemic he should be ashamed of himself the roh vibe has went away it was something special. Aew said they would never be like wwe but they sure do copy everything from the big machine and aew will never beat the machine

Yup he’s doing the same thing that caused them to go under relying on old guys, allowing the wrestlers to dictate the booking, signing wrestlers who look like Total homeless guys, making the AEW titles mean nothing, signing way to many ex WWE talent and causing the roster to be bloated, and focusing to much on what WWE is doing and taking pop shots.

Ted Tuner was never a promoter, just an owner of a wrestling company. Once he made the AOL deal, WCW was done. Biggest con in history. It was worth money they and there had to be some backroom deals on that one. Also, WCW beat WWE.
Now no one is not using AOL anymore lol. I do miss WCW that big gold belt is the best looking belt I ever seen and WWE owns that belt and trashed it.

TK started AEW as a rebellion against one man: Vince McMahon. However, McMahon is gone and isn’t coming back.
In a sense, TK won, and has been defeated by victory. There’s no reason for AEW to exist.

Crockett was in business for like 50 years and made some of the most popular wrestling stars ever and they didn't have millions of dollars to just put into their business. Same with Gagne and the AWA. Khan and AEW lost 33 million dollars last year but to him that's not even a problem because he's just got this pool of money he can just keep pumping into the business. He's not under pressure to make stars or create big angles to keep the lights on. It's a joke to compare himself to guys like that when he is not the same

Pro Wrestling Promoters that legit failed beore Tony Khan:
[1] Dixie Carter: TNA Wrestling, after Dixie Cater's father bought TNA Wrestling from Jeff and Jerry Jarrett (Dixie eventually ran out Jeff Jarrett as an excutive) and before the promotion was sold told Anthem Sports and Entertainment's founder Leonard Asper.
[2] The late Herb Abrams' Universal Wrestling Federation.
The irony is he could save his company and turn everything around if he would stop "fighting". Stop the "fight" against WWE, get out of creative and just let the professionals fix your company for you already. Eric Bischoff says it best - "Shut up and wrestle". Quit attacking WWE and put on a good alternative.
