Ordered mine on 5/18 and I'm still waiting for it. Best part is I told my boss about it and he ordered it on 5/20 or 5/21 and he already received his on Monday (6/10). How the hell does that work? I have several other RHF pressings and they're great but the PAY and PRAY ordering process is completely unacceptable in 2024.
I've got the Black Sabbath UK Vertigo 1st press , and the US green Warners 1st press , and you're spot on about the Vertigo having a cleaner sound . Both sound fantastic . I like the US track listing better , and the dirty sound of the US press suits Black Sabbath perfectly . It sounds like the Rhino might be a hybrid of the two . Can't wait for mine to arrive .
I passed on the Rhino because I already have a clean OG. I'm sure it's great though. I do have a couple of the Rhino C. Bellman reissues from 2011 and they are FANTASTIC.
Its the quietest vinyl Ive ever owned and sounds stunning. Its also the most expensive new lp I have ever bought at 50 dollars delivered. Well worth it.
I did a comparison between the RHF and the 2016 and I thought the 2016 was very fatiguing. The RHF got better and opened up as I turned the volume up. Pressing from Optimal was more quiet as well.
I ordered mine May 17, they finally shipped it June 6. I saw last week that it was already sold out on their website so I was afraid it was because of that. Whew!
#956 here... Got my copy this past Tuesday, via FedEx. It was supposed to be delivered Monday the 3rd, but got delayed another day for some reason, yet another variable in Rhino's already wonky shipping process. I also have a NM OG greenie pressing to compare it with, so really looking forward to shooting these both out. Just wish I had a UK Vertigo or WWA to compare against.
Awesome breakdown on the Black Sabbath Mazzy ,Rob , Steve and Harry can’t wait to get my copy it definitely on the way. I wish I ran across a clean OG Vertigo and US but doubt I’ll find one the Rhino will do great episode loved you all insights.
What a great panel. I enjoyed hearing your take on the Black Sabbath record. Mine is on the way. I will never look at my UHQR's the same way again. (Referring to the color) Thank you Mazzy. 😄
Yeah, I got the Black Sabbath album. The first day it came out in New York City. I still have it saw them open for Jethro Tull, who was opening for Jeff Beck at the Fillmore East
Nice to see all four of you together again.Strange not seeing @rachelsghost on screen with you as well. For what it's worth, all these recreations. remasters, and remixes etc... I rarely, and I mean rarely, for me, hear any upgrade on the original cuts.In this case 50 + years ago, and ALL analogue. AAA.Different times. Different people involved. Different perspectives, and very different equipment used back in the day. It was the early 70's.The records in the day, which I remember vividly, were mixed in that manner, for that reason. And for me that still remains the best! Totally subjective. To each his or her own. Are people like Kevin Gray not trying to recreate the old versions, or is he offering a different perspective? If the latter, then kudos, for making his own mark in the industry. But if it's the former, than I wish him all the luck in the world, which he will need. How much of the popularity of these releases are hype? and marketing?? This FOMO is used a lot these days. Case in point Beatles 1962-1966, and 1967-1970 (2023) Were they any better than the original 1973' originals or 2014 analogue releases? Not for me. Now with much of the new, "old" releases being AAD or ADD, or DDD? I think many people, the new vinyl generation, are realizing that music doesn't have to be this clean! It wasn't meant to be this precise! Anyway for those that love those digital files, God bless you. The future, or impetus, going forward still belongs to you. For now. But us "OG''s are not going away any time soon. Enjoyed the video gents!
If these weren't limited to 5k I don't think people would bother with it if they already have an og or even another reissue. But some people can't help themselves, if something is limited they can't miss out on having it.
I am surely looking forward to mine arriving. I think maybe Rob you are picking up on the ultra hifi that Kevin is a connoisseur of. His latest equipment is very good at passing the tape and not overloading or clipping the signal etc. Back when the OG was pressed they were not making audiophile records nor modern plating or pressing methods. Yes there have been a few improvements. At the time they were making records for kids to jam on their tiny players in their rooms or AM/FM radio so clarity was probably not the goal. The mofi DSD gets the same comments about too clean. It feels almost too hifi in a way. I say turn it up louder and you may feel it more. My perception is that jazzers love to play at low volumes. Not a dig 😜. Turn this up…this is heavy metal! 🤘🏻 I bet that may be an interesting thing to experiment with. I think the fuzz you may be missing is probably that the old pressings may not be able to pass the tape as transparently giving a different tone, possibly more familiar? Like VHS compared to 4K. Kevin seems to be very good at passing exactly what is on the tape. His cuts are almost too clean. But alas….I love hearing these albums in a new light closer to the real performance. I think we are in the golden days of vinyl these days…we have some great pressings to pick from these days! Thanks love this talk.
Great video guys. My all time favorite band Sabbath. Ive got the UK Vertigo swirl as well as the Org Canadian green Warner. There is a difference but they both sound really good in comparison to any other release that came after. I wouldnt even say that one is better than the other, but the clarity and separation of instruments is really strong. I just want to speak about the Rhino reissues from 2010 and the 2016 ...there is a big difference between the two. The 2010 really trumps the 2016. The 2016 is more muffled and flat. There are a few really good comparison side by side vids out there showing just that. Here is one ruclips.net/video/wifgKE95nnc/видео.htmlsi=GZz-Tl3OpRrm9fsn
Many people think Rhino is shipping based on last name. So, good luck if your last name is Zabrinski. It's interesting to hear you guys disagree about the bass- Mazzy has a Hegel 390. Hegel has massive bass response and damping factor. So, he has the ability to hear the OG and the Rhino hifi.
@@R3TR0R4V3 Yeah, not sure the first come first served is correct, either. People who ordered days after me have received. So, it seems like a general, old fashioned cluster. LOL.
My green label og is in excellent condition, always sounded good. You guys keep saying it’s only $40 but it really comes out to $50 with Rhinos shipping costs. I can buy lots of other og records with that money. BS was my high school days music, first generation fan but I hardly ever listen to them nowadays.
i wrote 4 sentences which you shared on VC morning program i like before saying i was barely coherent. fair enough??!! gentleman here said at close of video with 3 comments "this guy's stalking me!" perhaps??!! i have a friend who was from LA and his girlfriend that i can't locate. instead of giving lowdown on black sabbath's first album's fidelity. do you think you could find them for me? i know you've seen "chinatown"! i respect your knowledge and enjoy you here and elsewhere but triggering you in a way in which you call me "dude" 27 times in 10 minutes might be even more pleasurable than finding out about 2nd jellyfish album which because since i'd seen the cover of i thought i knew and could write off. you and "geezer" maslov have me singing joni's "both sides now" regarding rock and jazz history.
Those labels and obi strip suck. Who's idea was it to use a bloody annoying obi strip? Something feels wrong about having a Sabbath album with that awful Rhino high fidelity label on it 🤮

Deep Purple Burn 🔥
Roxy Music Country life
Both are on Warner...

Yes-Relayer and Deep Purple-Burn. Those will be the ones for July
IMO, the fact that they're a LARGE company, should really mean they should be MORE capable of getting product and notifications out quickly.
Great show here Waxed and learned a lot. Very informative regarding The Black Sabbath album.
I passed on the Rhino because I already have a clean OG. I'm sure it's great though. I do have a couple of the Rhino C. Bellman reissues from 2011 and they are FANTASTIC.

How do 3 people compare an album on different systems in different rooms?
I ordered mine May 17, they finally shipped it June 6. I saw last week that it was already sold out on their website so I was afraid it was because of that. Whew!

I will be interested in your opinion.

I only listen to jazz. And Sabbath. This was interesting. I wish I knew more about labels etc like @TheWaxed and Mazzy
i agree mazzy clarity vinyl isn't as quiet as mofi super vinyl
Montrose could be the next Rhino release.
That was released in 1973. That needs a UHQR
Chat GPT 4o and I have concluded that the next 2 Rhino's are either Rush, Little Feat, Bad Company, and/or Yes. Fun live - waiting on Devo! 🤨

I liked your review, it’s your opinion. Nothing wrong with it. Keep doing the non jazz reviews.
How did that feel?
What Hegel integrated amp do you have, Mazzy?
I think he has a 390
@@revelry1969 H90?
Two weeks now, and no shipping confirmation. That's really lame.

It’s all about the fuzz and the muff. Keep stepping out of jazz world every now and again. Thx Rob. Good overall review
Big Star

The last name thing is definitely not true.. It seems to be more "first come, first serve", at least from what I've observed so far.
@@R3TR0R4V3 Yeah, not sure the first come first served is correct, either. People who ordered days after me have received. So, it seems like a general, old fashioned cluster. LOL.
Please stop saying it’s $40, with shipping and tax it’s over $50

Great. This vid is 40 minutes long. And tedious.
I'll go listen to The Carpernters Hits album.
