Dang I received my Sport Cub BNF yesterday. I had watched your video of the Champ and I had decided to get a smaller plane because My Carbon Cub S+ which flies amazing but is just too big to take off and land from anywhere near my house. I didn't get the champ because I wanted SAFE with the "Oh crap" button and BNF is only $10 more than the Champ so a no brainier. I can use the BXe Transmitter that came with my Carbon cub S+.

@@mrkmh1 Nice, I have had a couple of the: Sport Cub S, and I had some bad luck with it. In Beginner Mode I was Flying, with No Wind even. So as I was Flying away from myself, and for the life of me, I just could Not get the Plane to Turnaround, and I couldn't even Lower my Altitude. Then the Plane had gotten to Far away, that I couldn't tell my Orientation, and when your Flying Towards yourself, the Controls are Backwards. So, just learning the Controls while Flying Towards Myself, was a Challenge in it's own. The Sport Cub S in SAFE MODE needs more Control Authority. I have Flown a lot of Airplanes with SAFE AND SAFE SELECT, and I never had the Problems that I had with the SPORT CUB S.

Funny story, my son and I were flying this after he got it for his birthday, and well I was at the controls and got a little crazy, as it was coming down fast, I pressed the self leveling panic button, it leveled so fast that the battery came loose from the Velcro and fell to the ground, the plan just glided down. We searched and searched for the battery, couldn't find it, right before we left though, my son walked out into the field and he was like "dad, I found the battery" ha ha. word of advice, make sure the battery is secure. Kind of wish the battery was inside a compartment, probably the only gripe about this plane, Very Fun and well worth the money. This was our first plane and it has been a blast.

I love mine, but will say to anyone wanting one who is starting out, get the ready to fly version, i got the bind and fly one because i had a good transmitter already, know how to do the setup and all that, to bind this thing you have to open it up by cutting the tape all the way down its fuselage, plus setting all its various flight modes and safe switch can be a bit much for a beginner. Plus as a bonus, when you get more into the hobby and want to step up to BnF RC's you can always bind this to your transmitter later, but you have the one it game with as a backup. I'd recommend a jumper t16 as a radio, it can bind up to most brands, if you guys dont have one, you should get one, just get the + version that has the multi module inside it now instead of in the expansion bay. in fact it would be a great thing to show off when you do binding tutorials

    • @jimhimesjr
      @jimhimesjr 4 года назад +1

You shouldn’t have to cut the plane apart to bind it. If you just turn the plane on while sitting upright it will go into bind mode after about 5 seconds.
Jumper T16 is a great radio but OPENTX takes a bit to learn. Spektrum radios are much simpler and the instructions are given for how to set up a Spektrum radio for this plane or any other a Horizon plane. Jumper T16 is a great bang for the buck and has come a long way in a short amount of time has 16 channels and the sky is the limit for what it can do. Anyone who doesn’t mind putting the work in go Jumper, if you want a simpler way go Spektrum. I own both.

Getting back into RC planes after a long absence and bought one. It is fun to fly and definitely tough. It's amazing how far they have come with the technology since I left the hobby. My only complaint with it is the quality of the velcro to attach the battery. Hit too hard and the battery would come out. Even came out during a hand launch, just hanging down. It was an easy fix though. I took 3M Command velcro strip cut it to size and replaced both the velcro in the plane and on the battery. Really enjoy your videos, as they have helped me choose planes to buy to get back in the hobby.

Plane is fantastic. My only recommendation would be to round off the sharp inside corner in the wing at the inboard side of each aileron. The sharp corner allowes the thin foam wing to crack starting at this corner over time from just flying. Just heat up a drill bit and melt through the corner to round it out, this will eliminate the stress that concentrates in the sharp corner and causes the tear. Sharp inside corners are a no no in aircraft sheetmetal for this exact reason. It's the reason that square windows were removed from commercial liners after the Comet (first commercial pressurized cabin jet liner) when the corners at the windows developed cracks and caused several in flight break ups. Every one of these Cubs we've been through (3 or 4) has developed these cracks fairly quickly.

The UMX line from the HobbyZone company absolutely keeps the new pilots planes in a mass to weight ratio that keeps the planes flying, which is the goal.
Timber UMX with flaps or the PT-17 biplane would be great next steps, after that, a high or even midwing, 3-4 ft wingspan plane would be the following step, then a low wing.
    Great job on the videos.

It is nice to fly when there is absolutely zero wind, however in the U.K still weather is rare.

Just be careful what you buy, like anything. See if we have a video on it, or someone else you trust before buying it.

Another outstanding review by the rcsaylors!! I'm a new Carbon Cub S+ owner, haven't flown in 20 years, and am already considering this for another plane! Please keep them coming -- how about a couple on ARF gas powered planes? I flew Tower Hobbies 40 and 60 trainers for years and see they are now out of business or at least have been gutted. You may already have posted one, I, subscribed and will look for one! Thank You!

I just bought this last month for my first R/C airplane. I've flown quads for a year and a half, and was watching a bunch of your videos, and it was actually one of the warbirds your were testing, I think it was the airacobra P39. It jogged some great memories I had building model airplanes, and frustrating ones of never getting that gas engine to start with the old r/c planes. I bought this, and it's such a confidence booster! Love the safe mode! I've crashed a bunch, and it's still going, although it's nose is starting to resemble a bulldog. Have just ordered a UMX Timber, because I want the brushless motor, and lights, and bush tires etc...But I don't regret getting the Sport Cub S, cause I got my wife to fly it, and maybe we can have those dogfights I was dreaming about as a kid!lol. Thanks, Saylors, for stirring up those old feelings!

I got this and was planning on a first birthday flight, but it started snowing and misting so has to wait. Don't know if I want to still get the Carbon or stay with this one for now and get used to flying.

Thanks! I bought one and think that it is a perfect trainer. It is so light that a "crash" has low impact. Tips: balance and trim carefully. They tend to be tail heavy. Launch and land into the wind. I got bush tires and strengthened landing gear. Don't add weight or heavy paint. The basic transmitter is darn good!

Best advise would be to fly with someone that's been doing it for a while, they can teach you a lot!
If you don't have someone like that available I'd suggest getting the HobyZone Carbon Cub S+ (www.horizonhobby.com/HBZ3250?KPID=HBZ3250&CAWELAID=320011980001326060&CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=104213710024&CATCI=pla-881853562302&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIm9rbvM7M6AIVLiCtBh39vQfYEAYYASABEgIOXfD_BwE)
Its larger size helps make it easier to control (not what I expected as I was first learning), it has the SAFE system like this plane but more importantly has a GPS suite that will help keep the plane from flying away from you, it also has an auto-land feature. The landings are a bit rough on auto-land, but a whole lot better than my first attempts.

Sure, try it. I have trucks, cars, buggy, boats both nitro and electric and after buying my first plane (Sport Cub S), I fell in love with flying. I know have like 8 planes and still learning. Try this planet and if possible then move to the Timber 1.5. Also a great beginners plane but large scale. Do not go into Warbirds until you master the Sport Cub S and timber.... But try it, you will enjoy it and it will be easier for you who already have some experience with RC (meaning, your fingers are already trained).

This popped up as a recommended video and i wanted to say this was my first plane. It was recommended to be by a local hobby shop and I'm eternally thankful for it. I was able to learn to fly fixed wing without being scared I'd lose the plane or crash it into something and cause property damage. It was an easy transition from quads and helis and nice to be able to take off and land from my driveway and fly safely up and down my street and the cul-de-sac.

this plane is amazing. it was my first plane and its still my favourite. it flys so well even with a little wind. it can also take a beating. also easy to fix with some ca glue or hot glue. i do recomend getting a better transmitter. i got a spektrum dx6 and it change the flying experience a lot. the range on the rtf transmitter is limited and it will loose signal with the plane which ends up in your plane flying solo and a big walk to find it. with the dx6 this has never been a problem. so aweosme tough easy to fly little plane that is a hell of a lot fun to fly.

OK, this model has blown my mind.
The first RC plane I saw was a gas-powered behemoth in 1959, single-channel rudder only with a rubber band to power the escapement...the rudder 'motor'.
Then when I got into it I built my own radio from a kit in...1980?
A large two-channel model with a FOX .40 gas engine.
Then I got married, lived a life, etc.
I am SO out of touch with RC planes that I am considering getting into it with one of these models...BUT...
I want a larger model, with RC gear that I can install in a later, larger plane later on. I'd like to get into OLDTIMER RC, with the vintage stuff/designs. Any suggestions?

I just got this plane about a week ago, it flies great but...you CANNOT have any wind over 8 mph...it will be thrown all over the place. Unfortunately, here in North Dallas, this area has a large field but I can NEVER fly this plane...Its ALWAYS over 10 mph wind conditions. It cannot handle any wind at all. Its sooo light it just gets thrown all over the place.

I find myself saying this a lot with Horizon Hobby products, but...I don't get it. For less than half the price, you could get an XK A800, which comes RtF, is 2S, is larger, has a direct drive motor, has horn servos instead of linear, and is made of much thicker, coarser EPP foam that can actually be glued back together after a crash. On top of all that, it has comparable gyro stabilization features, including an auto-level flight mode that can be used like SAFE if you ever need to get yourself out of trouble.
Even at two-thirds the price of the Sport Cub, you could still get the A600 if you're specifically looking for something the same size as the Cub, but get 2S power, a brushless motor, and all the same gyro stabilization features as the other XK planes.

Hi.I have bought a Sport Cub S2 RTF, and am very disappointed with its performance. In anything other than an absolute dead calm - no wind AT ALL - it is very difficult to fly. It couldn't head into the wind even though it was very very light - no more than 2-3mph. (See my earlier comment). It tends to climb then turn downwind unless I correct it, and basically stops dead in the air facing into the wind, even on full throttle. So, basically I'm looking for another 4 channel plane that is a bit more powerful - 2s or 3s, probably brushless - a bit heavier and larger so it will cope with a bit of wind etc. What I'd like to know is whether or not I can use the Sport Cub S2's transmitter with another BNF plane. What specs should I be looking for in a BNF plane to bind with the transmitter I got with the Cub? Can you recommend anything?
Please help - I've had no response elsewhere so far.

After seeing the review I was persuaded to buy one of these, and I wish I hadn't. It is so light that it is impossible to fly it in anything but a dead calm - any wind at all can not be handled. I flew it in very light winds - only a few MPH - and if turned into the wind it just climbed and then unless fully corrected, it turned and flew downwind. I would NOT recommend this for a novice! Eventually, a hard landing has put the motor mount out of vertical alignment and I can't correct that. Waste of £150. It's now back in the box and will stay there. Very disappointed.

Well I’m like a kid waiting for Christmas. I recently got back into flying little a coaxial heli, and then ordered no less than four product, including this one. I have a fairly big back yard, I hope you don’t need too much space, at least until I can head to the fields and they’re are many nearby. I also picked up three Blade helis. A 200s fixed pitch to get started on and also an mCP for getting into collective pitch and an indoor Blade 70 S. Ya I went in headfirst but I’ve no doubt Il have a lot of fun based on how much I’ve enjoyed flying the unsteady little coaxials. Any advice as far as the best replacement batteries and multi chargers? Thanks for the video and happy flying to all.
