In this video tutorial I teach you how to make a child size bean bag chair. This is a great beginner project with simple sewing skills required.

Materials used in this project:
• Print out pattern template for FREE here: craftygemini.com/op/child-siz...
• 3 yards of exterior fabric- I used Cuddle Fabric by Shannon Fabrics (for retailers see list above)
• 3 yards for lining fabric- I used 100% cotton scraps I had
• 2 of the 2.5 lb bags of Fairfield Poly-Fil® Bean Bag Filler
• less than 1/4 yard of lightweight or mediumweight interfacing
• a CD (to trace a circular template for the applique)
• closure of your choice- you can use hook & loop tape or the snap kit I have
• a marker
• pins, thread

I created these for our homeschool classroom and they are a hit! My kids love them and use them every chance they get. If you have been looking for an easy to follow, step-by-step tutorial for a bean bag chair... this is it! The Cuddle Fabric on the exterior really makes this project special. It's so soft and have be removed and thrown in the washer and dryer.

Hello Vanessa, I wanted to share my bean bag chair with you I made for my 18 month old granddaughter. She loves it as does her sister and my daughter-in-law. I have to make another one for her house. This was so easy and fun to do. Thanks for all your tutorials.
Great tutorial thanks . When filling the inner bag I taped an empty toilet roll to the plastic bag opening making a funnel, the I tied the fabric to the other end of the toilet roll or kitchen towel roll, I turned the plastic bean bag upside down and the beans flowed into the bag with no beans spilling out, it worked really well.

Great video! Thanks for the tip about preparing appliques to turn with interfacing. I have been sewing for a LONG time, and this is the first time I've seen that method used. Excited to learn something new. :)
Such funny memories! I made a giant adult size bean bag when my 30-somethings were babies. We lived near a factory that made the beads in Georgia. It wasn’t something we could spend money on so I’d sneak to the dumpster and get their throwaways every day. Car was a mess but the green beanbag chair was so much fun!! Thank you for your great video. I lost the pattern and want to make for my grandchildren.

YES! i use painters tape to hold down my pattern paper too. for some reason it's always there when i need to hold down something. Love the channel and what a great project for the kiddies!

Well I have a few favorites!! The Paisley Cuddle Topaz and Olive. The Valencia Cuddle Marina, RKC Candy Strip Red Mango! I'd love 1 yard of each, not because I want to make a beanbag because I dont have enough floor space but because I want to make my baby Jaxx (49lb Shephard/greyhound) a new bed that is comfortable for him. Im so glad that you are finally back and able to make new videos. My MIL had pancreatis. She was about 4'6 and she would shake the hospital bed. I'll be praying for you!

I've downloaded lots of written instructions with pictures but it wasn't until I watched your video tutorial that they made sense. I've downloaded your pattern and bookmarked your tutorial. I love the purple night owls in the Kaufman collection. This would be a perfect complement to my granddaughter's collection of "everything owl." I wish I had this video when I was looking for bean bags for my daughter. I ended up purchasing one for $100 that had very little fill and only lasted about a week!

Oh my, my favorite fabric from Shannon Fabrics is the blue and white Toille. I am very much a traditionalist. I love how sweet this fabric is. It is very old fashioned and childlike looking but has the modern feel of the cuddle fabric. I can't post a link to it, but just to their page and do a search of blue and white and the toille will come right up.
What a great project!!! I love your tutorials!! They do have so many adorable fabrics! I made sure I bookmarked their website!! I'd have to say my favorite is the Luxury Shag fabric in lavender and turquoise! My daughter is a huge Ariel (Little Mermaid) fan and her bedroom is in that theme. Those two colors would make a perfect addition to her bedroom.

Love this tutorial Vanessa! I wish I had some kiddaloons to make these for, but since it's just me and my hubby I'll have to pass. Tthe phrase "Help! I'm stuck in a bean bag, and I can't get out!" and visions of being stuck in one for hours running through my head, lead me to believe an adult sized bean bag probably isn't a very good idea for us. Not new to sewing but new to sewing big projects like this one..I really like this one the most to try out might make it for my little sister... On the website I could decide between Hooty Cuddle Snow or Ruff-Ruff Cuddle Scarlet to be my favorite 💜 most of them were just too cute

Thanks for this tutorial, very cute and cool. Did you know instead of filling bean bag just add zipper to one seam and it can also be used to house all child's soft toys and stuffed animals. The same can be done with cloth square baskets if you make it a cube. Smiles
