Thank you Katy for sharing some of your favorites from 2024. Some are familiar to me and others not but your high praise and positive descriptions have sold me, and I will be looking to add a few to my collection...thanks immensely for the new leads...have a Happy New Year!
We both appreciate the Crowded House, The Lemon Twigs and Kacey Musgraves albums to put on our respective favorite lists. Prelude to Ecstasy by The Last Dinner Party is probably my number one based on listens. Thank you for sharing your list. The Hanseroth Twins’ Vera is now on my list. Beautiful vocals! If you like New Orleans Jazz, Tuba Skinny’s “live at d.b.a” is fantastic. Only available via Bandcamp! May the tunes in the New Year keep you nourished and inspired!! ❤
@@cordesrecords don’t care much for AOTY lists but on the AOTY WEBSITE, users have it ranked at number 1 this year and there is a very good reason, it’s just unbelievably good, it blew my 48 year old mind! It’s that willingness to go prog, the production quality, the transitions, oh my the transitions. It’s the bass and drums, their synth choices, the gorgeous instrumental breaks, I could go on, so many element to peel back with each listen. It made me so excited to think how my relationship will evolve with these songs, this band over time, giving me that dopamine hit again and again, bringing tears of joy, reminding me this is why I love music. I haven’t felt that much with new music, I had it to a certain extent with the Japanese punk band Otoboke Beaver’s Itekoma Hits back in 2019, but it’s a rare thing to connect so deeply to a record. You may have guessed it, I like this band quite a lot! 😛 Btw, I don’t mean to offend, your list is valid, telling us what you liked the most this year is great and I will have to check out some of your recommendations, it’s an excellent way to discover new music. The problem I have really is throwing awards at the big sellers, for example, I think Billie Eilish is just wonderful but she will win awards because of global popularity, which doesn’t necessarily mean it’s better than everything else.
Great overview of albums that perhaps should have a wider audience listening, but alas most will only listen to familiar ditties. Nice sharing your perspective I will look into picking some of these up
Very solid list. Great recommendations for me to try. My number 1 was The Cure and Nick Cave was my #3. St. Vincent was my #5. Still working through Kim Deal. Her voice is a bit weak on some tracks hoping it will grow. But surprised you didn’t have The Smile or Kim Gordon on your list. Happy New Year 🎉
First time watching your channel but surely will not be the last. Great and diverse list. I'll be searching for the albums in the list I haven't listen to yet. Thanks!
I got chills listening to you talk about Annie Erin Clark. I cannot agree with you more about this incredibly talented woman. It does my heart and mind good to hear someone else talk of Ms. Clark in such glowing terms. You have many really wonderful choices in your top albums of 2024. Many of which I too had to have. Thoughtful video.
Our lists share about 80%, yours added two to my list. The one I have that can't be moved is one I can't understand why is so overlooked this year and it is Patrick Leonard's "It All Comes Down to Mood" This is a must listened to beginning to end.
Thanks for your excellent choices. I wholeheartedly agree on 2024 being an excellent year for music. John Craigie, Meernaa, Billianne, JD McPherson, Nico Paulo, Jon Muq, Lady Blackbird, and Josiah and the Bonnevilles are just a few of the great artists I discovered this year. Happy listening and Merry Christmas from Vancouver.

Oh I’m so happy. They are great. John Meyer talked about one the songs his Sirius show - he didn’t know them either but recognised the beauty in the guitar riff and harmonies.
I know very few of these artists and I’ve just stumbled across this page … very interesting choices , I can’t wait to have a listen to them and see how I like them… thanks and great site
Can’t fault your choices. Not mine but still admire you. I recommend an album by Beardfish called songs for beating hearts. You will love track 4, the singing harmonies are beautiful.
I defy anyone to try and pin you down to a musical taste. That’s a nice diverse selection. There are definitely a few on here that I have never heard of before. I will check them out. Thanks
I find something nice on each of these lists I watch, and a pair from here too. I think people are sleeping on Vera Sola (Peacemaker), an album I really enjoyed but haven't seen mentioned anywhere.
Nice diverse list of music. I'm going have to check out the ones I don't know. I like that Crowded House record. I might have to expand my list to top 25. 😅. My list is probably the most diverse list you may find. It includes jazz, country, metal, punk, ska, rock, folk, jam, funk, surf rock/psychedelic and pop. I am normally not one to listen to country, jazz, metal, or pop but found some incredible exceptions this year. Or I must have expanded and opened my listening brain. Maybe both. 😂 1 Disco Biscuits-Revolution In Motion 2. Lotus-How To Dream In Color, 3. Beebadoobee-This Is How Tomorrow Moves 4.Lawrence-Family Business, 5. David Gilmour-Luck & Strange 6.Johnnie Blue Skies-Passage Du Desir 7. Smashing Pumpkins-Aghori Mhori Mei 8. King Gizzard & Lizard Wizard-Flight B741 9. The Warning-Keep Em Fed 10. Hey Katie, been meaning to comment on your interesting Top 17 of 2024, yet i cant get into that Nick Cave cuz of the religious content, me being a Jewish-born Atheist, find it offensive & cultish (familiar with his brutal noisy punk/postpunk band The Birthday Party??" & Zach Bryan is pretty good, nowhere near the top of my list though...my full list is Top 100 with 25 runnerups, but posting that may overwhelm you, so i will give you my Top 24 of 2024...#24: Adrianne Lenker "Bright Future", #23: The Marvelous 3 "IV", #22: Chelsea Wolfe "She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She", #21: Susanna Hoffs "The Lost Record", #20: Kate Pierson "Radios & Rainbows", #19: Jerry Cantrell "I Want Blood", #18: Magdalena Bay "Imaginal Disk", #17: The Last Dinner Party "Prelude To Ecstasy: Acoustics & Covers", #16: Kylie Minogue "Tension II", #15: Nightwish "Yesterwynde", #14: St Vincent "All Born Screaming/Todos Nacer Gritando" (yes there is a version of the album is Spanish), #13: Michael Kiwanuka "Small Changes", #12: Kim Deal "Nobody Loves You More", #11: Cindy Lee "Diamond Jubilee", #10: Charli XCX "brat" (all versions), #9: Dwight Yoakam "Brighter Days", #8: Pet Shop Boys "Nonetheless", #7: X "Smoke & Fiction, #6: Wendy James (she of late 80s glampunkpowerpop band Transvision Vamp) "The Shape Of History", #5: The Mavericks "Moon & Stars", #4: Beyonce "Cowboy Carter" (complete), #3: Taylor Swift "The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology", #2: The Cure "Songs Of a Lost World" & my #1 is Redd Kross "Redd Kross (The Redd Album)"...
Thanks Lawrence. Good point about Nick Cave, and absolutely understandable. Great list - love the Kylie!! - And I've lost count of the amount of people who recommended The Last Dinner Party!
You have such a wonderful interest in a wide range of music. Listen to Watchhouse (Orange Mandolin). You may find their insightful sound and music very cool. Thx gain for the episode.
Hello, I love your videos and how you explain why you love what you listen to. I have a lot of same albums that I agree with you on my top favorite albums of 2024, and I'm currently excited to hear a few more thanks to your video. If I may, if you haven't heard Magdalena Bay's "Imaginal Disk," it's an album that completely took over my ears for 2024. Based on what you listen to, I have a feeling you'd really enjoy it. Anyways, thanks for the video. :D
Oh cool Laurie Anderson! ❤ Need to listen to it again. Billie Eilish album is fantastic! In my top 5. St Vincent is cool 😎. The Cure! Definitely need to listen to Nick Cave fully... Great list! 😊

@@jeremysette3657 Give KALANDRA's "A Frame of Mind" a try. They are out of Oslo, Norway Katrine Stenbekk lead singer and song writer. I just discovered Lief Vollebekk bc heard Aurora compliment him in an interview
Good Sunday morning Katie. I arrived home Friday evening to discover this video. I had to watch it then, & again I was enthralled with the detailed content. I now have a lot of '24 releases to discover. As always thank you for your video.
O.K., I've listened all the way through Laurie Anderson's album. (Glad to know she's still alive.). It's quite interesting and really does take you on a journey.
@@cordesrecords Listened to the entire "Bar Music" album. Can't remember the artist's name or name of album. He's only 28. A few songs are in the same key and have similar tempos and melodic flows. But, man, they are all interesting and his lyrics are enjoyable to listen to and follow. I gotta check out more of his stuff.
Surprised you said that there was a lack of bands this year. Most of ,my top 10 were from bands. 1. The Cure. Songs of a lost World 2. Magdalena Bay. Imaginal Disk 3. Wunderhorse. Midas 4. Fontaines D C. Romance. 5. The Last Dinner Party. Prelude to Ecstasy 6. Mannequin Pussy. I got heaven 7. Geordie Greep. New Sound 8. Beth Gibbons. Lives Outgrown 9. English Teacher. This could be Texas 10. Nieve Ella. Watch it ache and bleed.
@cordesrecords He certainly is. There's an excellent live performance of New Sound on Lou Smiths RUclips channel if you haven't seen it. He also has a video of a fantastic Last Dinner Party acoustic set he's just dropped
Thanks, yeah, think I'll catch Joy Oladokun in a few months at a great nearby venue......thanks to you.......oooh, Ani DiFranco there in a month too! Love Big Thief. Have yet to see the band, but did drive 5 hours to catch Buck Meek at Pappy and Harriet's Pioneer Town. Got there early, grabbed a sandwich, opted for a table and was seated right in front of the stage......just as the band was doing sound check! Met Buck. He was very approachable and friendly.
@@cordesrecords lots are still available on CD, so most have survived the test of time. When I last checked values my Hotlegs (later became 10cc) album that opened out as a school desk was top.
Guess I have some listening to do. Wish you would have included Aurora's "What Happen to the Heart". Love Jacob Collier but wasn't big on 4. BTW, did you see Jacob and Aurora's collaboration from couple months ago? A Rock Somewhere and The Seed done for Greenpeace in the Arctic. Please check it if you haven't, best collab of year. And strongly recommend band named KALANDRA released album titled "Frame of Mind" just this past Sept. Beautiful album, #1 for me.
@@cordesrecords Another, I thought might have been release in 23 but it was 2024 is "Cacophony" by Paris Paloma. The single off the album "Labour" was huge.
Hi there just came across your channel. Always love to see and hear from fellow aussies :) Zach Bryans album has been on high rotation for me since its release. He is such a wonderfult storyteller.
@cordesrecords it's great to see our country represented. There are so many great Australian musicians they need to be showcased. Look forward to watching your videos. Have just finished the Christmas album one, I want that Linda Ronstadt album haha will need to pick it up!
@@cordesrecords Of course they would. And then they would checkout your picks. Took me like forever to figure out Bryan's album, which I wanted to check out) as the RUclips transcript got it (and most of the other names) wrong. Any way, that's my 49c, and I'm stickin' to it! 😜
Wonderful list of albums! My choice for best Record is; ‘Dark Matter’ Pearl Jam As a Rock Guy, I was so satisfied by this long awaited PJ album…check it out, if you haven’t. There is a range of songs to attract people even outside the RnR genre. ✌️
@cordesrecords you will love it for sure. The double cd version contains 16 tracks, most of them not the most popular, but fantastic. Hidden gems like here in my head, sister Janet, Ruby thru the looking glass...
Who cares about the albums. U rank #1 with me. ❤❤❤. Can u meet me on top of the Empire State Building on Valentine’s Day? U need Jason Isbell on that list
Future: We Don't Trust You St. Vincent: All Born Screaming The Smile: Wall Of Eyes Fontaines D.C.: Romance Mannequin Pussy: I Got Heaven Kim Gordon: The Collective Jack White: No Name Charli XCX: Brat Cindy Lee: Diamond Jubilee Godspeed You! Black Emperor: No Title As Of 13 February 2024 28,340 Dead
Not being an emotionalist a lot of these things don't appeal to me. But as regards Jon Batiste, I can only quote jazz great and drummer Art Blakey: "Don't change the classics. Those dudes were hipper than you'll ever be. Play them as they are written or leave them alone." But I'm going to continue checking out this list. As someone who's spent some amount of time in actual cowboy bars in Arizona, I'm interested in the last one.
@@cordesrecords So you gotta come visit Prescott, Arizona, USA. Got some bars that are 165 years old and were hang outs for Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday.. The town is built around a large town square with the county courthouse in the middle. Two streets facing the courthouse are known as Whiskey Row. Everything's in the mountains with pine forests, lakes, some high desert area, herds of elk. One of the nicest places I've been to.

Great list
Looking forward to working my way through these!
Please do!
Loved watching your list. Especially curious about the Hanseroth Twins.
Oh I’m so happy. They are great. John Meyer talked about one the songs his Sirius show - he didn’t know them either but recognised the beauty in the guitar riff and harmonies.
They’re the twins who usually play and sing with Brandi Carlile. Great great stuff
What a joy. I had to chuckle at your comment about Australian hip hop music.
Heheheh😂
Great video, would appreciate a text list of the albums (and/or songs in other videos) in your description.
Sure - may do that!
Thanks, great to hear solid recommendations for artists I don't know (well or at all) - I'm going to go away and listen!
Oh great!! Hope you enjoy.
Lots of stuff I've never heard of to have a listen to. Thank you.
Thanks Johnny!
Thank you for your wonderful recommendations. I discovered some great new artists.
You are welcome
I know very few of these artists and I’ve just stumbled across this page … very interesting choices , I can’t wait to have a listen to them and see how I like them… thanks and great site
Thanks Colin! 🎉
Can’t fault your choices. Not mine but still admire you. I recommend an album by Beardfish called songs for beating hearts. You will love track 4, the singing harmonies are beautiful.
Thanks Ken! And yes we all have different tastes!! 😂
I defy anyone to try and pin you down to a musical taste. That’s a nice diverse selection. There are definitely a few on here that I have never heard of before. I will check them out. Thanks
😅 No metal. No opera 😂 Yet.
Hello Katie. ❤ the video, great selection. 👍
Thanks!!
Je viens de découvrir votre chaîne avec ce Top 2024, j'adore votre classement.
Merci!!
I find something nice on each of these lists I watch, and a pair from here too. I think people are sleeping on Vera Sola (Peacemaker), an album I really enjoyed but haven't seen mentioned anywhere.
I’ll check that out
Nice diverse list of music. Maybe both. 😂

So happy to hear!! Didn’t get enough love!❤️
- And I've lost count of the amount of people who recommended The Last Dinner Party!
great selection
Thank you
Been listening mostly to The Last Dinner Party album......makes me wonder if you've heard it. Did some Australia gigs this year.
So many people have suggested this!
You have such a wonderful interest in a wide range of music. Listen to Watchhouse (Orange Mandolin). You may find their insightful sound and music very cool.
Thx gain for the episode.
I will ! Thanks for recco!
Hey thanks for recommendation - someone else here also recommended that and am listening to it now ! Great suggestion.
I hope you enjoy it!!! 😀
Oh cool Laurie Anderson! ❤ Need to listen to it again. Billie Eilish album is fantastic! In my top 5. St Vincent is cool 😎. The Cure! Definitely need to listen to Nick Cave fully... Great list! 😊

@@Dave-hb7lx will do, thanks!
Good Sunday morning Katie. I arrived home Friday evening to discover this video. I had to watch it then, & again I was enthralled with the detailed content. I now have a lot of '24 releases to discover. As always thank you for your video.
Thanks Dennis - I hope you enjoy some of the music.
I love the Adrianne Lenker album
Thanks
Beatifull and interesting list!! Why17?
Number 18 was so further off 17 I thought yeah… stop here.
O.K., I've listened all the way through Laurie Anderson's album. (Glad to know she's still alive.). It's quite interesting and really does take you on a journey.
Thanks for taking the time :)
1. The Cure. Songs of a lost World
2. Magdalena Bay. Imaginal Disk
3. Wunderhorse. Midas
4. Fontaines D C. Romance.
5. The Last Dinner Party. Prelude to Ecstasy
6. Mannequin Pussy. I got heaven
7. Geordie Greep. New Sound
8. Beth Gibbons. Lives Outgrown
9. English Teacher. This could be Texas
10. Nieve Ella. Watch it ache and bleed.
True!! And can we talk about the Georgie Greep? My son gave me for Xmas so so genius!
Wow great story! Let me k ow what Joy is like live!!
I`ve only purchased one album this year The Cures new one...... best album without listening to anything else......
Hahah😂
Why not listen to other stuff. Im planning on buying 22 albums and i consider myself picky. Last year i had trouble naming 5 good albums and i tried
Tot agree about Zach Bryan it's a fabulous album.
Thank you!
Geordie Greep - The New Sound is my best album of the year
Im hoping for it for Christmas. It's on my "list" ;)
I've managed to hold onto 100+ vinyl albums that I bought in the 70's. Amazingly some still have the price stickers, costing from £1.50p
You will have some gems!!
@@cordesrecords lots are still available on CD, so most have survived the test of time. When I last checked values my Hotlegs (later became 10cc) album that opened out as a school desk was top.
Great choice’s enjoyed watching, check out Bryony Williams debut album you are here will be released February 25
Happy Christmas 🎸👍
Will do.
Wow I will check that out! Thanks for recco
@@cordesrecords Another, I thought might have been release in 23 but it was 2024 is "Cacophony" by Paris Paloma. The single off the album "Labour" was huge.
Hi there just came across your channel. Always love to see and hear from fellow aussies :)
Zach Bryans album has been on high rotation for me since its release. He is such a wonderfult storyteller.
Oh fantastic! So few Aussies watch my vids! Thanks mate :)🎉
@cordesrecords it's great to see our country represented. There are so many great Australian musicians they need to be showcased. Look forward to watching your videos. Have just finished the Christmas album one, I want that Linda Ronstadt album haha will need to pick it up!
Also I subscribed :)
If I may say this I hope it’s not said in bad faith way but.. you seem like a sweet kind woman and I wish you a lovely holiday and such…😊
The Cure - Songs from a Lost World #1. The John Smith Band - Nothing Gold Can Stay #2.
Oh I need to check out the John Smith Band
@ btw. Great channel.
I wish in these ranking videos that the titles and info were listed in the comments.
Would people watch the video though 🤪
@@cordesrecords Of course they would. And then they would checkout your picks. Took me like forever to figure out Bryan's album, which I wanted to check out) as the RUclips transcript got it (and most of the other names) wrong. Any way, that's my 49c, and I'm stickin' to it! 😜
Hello from canada
Hello there!
Wonderful list of albums!
My choice for best Record is;
‘Dark Matter’
Pearl Jam
As a Rock Guy, I was so satisfied by this long awaited PJ album…check it out, if you haven’t. There is a range of songs to attract people even outside the RnR genre. ✌️
Almost made my list! But not quite! But agree it’s an amazing listen.
1 songs of a lost world the cure 2 diving deep live tori amos 3 luck&strange david gilmour
Oh I love Tori Amos - will need to check that out.

The Smile: Wall Of Eyes
Fontaines D.C.: Romance
Mannequin Pussy: I Got Heaven
Kim Gordon: The Collective
Jack White: No Name

Great, hope you like the one's you do check out. Merry Christmas ⛄ and happy New years 🎉🎉
No Ulcerate?
No sadly :)
Not being an emotionalist a lot of these things don't appeal to me. But as regards Jon Batiste, I can only quote jazz great and drummer Art Blakey: "Don't change the classics. Those dudes were hipper than you'll ever be. Play them as they are written or leave them alone."
But I'm going to continue checking out this list. As someone who's spent some amount of time in actual cowboy bars in Arizona, I'm interested in the last one.
Really appreciate the honesty of your view. Can’t say I’ve ever been in a a cowboy bar. 😂 Still love the album!!
There are no decent albums this year
😂
Clearly youre joking
All music now is 💩.
Sorry you feel that way :(
