The "Elyse" LP was recorded in 1968 at Sunset Sound Recorders. It was engineered by Gene Shively. The "The Band of Thieves" consisted of Don Gallucci (keyboards), Joey Newman (electric guitar), John Bordonaro (drums/percussion) & Bruce Hauser (bass guitar). I am Bruce Hauser and I'm going to borrow this statement from the Touch Wikipedia page " After signing with Coliseum Records, but before recording Touch, the group recorded the music tracks for the Elyse Weinberg LP using the name "The Band of Thieves", after Elyse's song of the same name. Gene Shiveley engineered the sessions at Sunset Sound Recorders." We had a great time recording the Elyse LP. I know that Neil Young played guitar on at least one subsequent album released by Elyse, but I am pretty darn sure Neil did not play on the LP simply titled Elyse. Thanks for your video about Elyse. May she RIP.

Thank you Bruce and great to meet you! That’s so interesting to know and have confirmed that Neil Young did not in fact play on the album (contrary to so much info on the internet). And also great to understand who The Band of Thieves were. I really appreciate you correcting that mis information. I will pin your comment in case someone stumbles on this video in the future.

Very interesting. I have just listened to Greasepaint Smile and there's a track (other than House) that sounds like Neil Young playing guitar to me, so perhaps he played on more than the track identified?

    • @projektor4
      @projektor4 День назад

@@cordesrecords I think the Neil Young miss info is because "Houses" is 1 of the 2 Greasepaint Smile bonus tracks on the 2001 Orange Twin CD reissue of Elyse´s debut LP.

Touch´s Touch is such an incredibly mind touching album !!! I regret not getting it on vinyl at the time but now have it on disc with 5 bonus tracks. I´m honoured to touch base with the bass here :)

Thanks for shining a light on overlooked treasures! There are so many talented people out there - but talent is not enough - the stars must all align perfectly for the magic "success" to occur. Having that movie song credit stolen by Sonny Bono must have been a crushing blow.

Elyse Weinberg does get a song writing credit on the ´69 original movie sound track album, so not stolen outright.

Good morning from Canada Katie! 2 days ago I almost fell out of my chair at a very good restaurant when your video popped up. I have had Elyse' lp since the 70's. I play it every year. Only you would bring this obscure Canadian artist to our attention. Amazing research & presentation. Thank you Katie.

How about an episode or a series focusing on live albums that defined a band? Such as Peter Frampton Frampton Comes Alive, Waitin' for Columbus Little Feat, The Last Waltz The Band. Your perspective would be informative.

I know Elsie she sung painted Raven and I was probably 13 years old. I’ve never forgotten her voice. I’m now 67.! you know they used to have all these sales at the record stores or 5 and dime and we were digging through the bin and I found it and I loved the art on it. It was white with a lot of line drawings. Hopefully you have it. I would love to hear painted Raven. I would play painted Raven over and over and I thought she sounded her lyrics were so much like Bob Dylan. It’s funny I remember the song being longer than what it is.

Your video randomly popped into my recommendations but I love her! I discovered her because Sleater-Kinney's former drummer Janet Weiss talked a lot about "Houses" in an interview. I got Greasepaint Smile from Numero Group last year, her work is so wonderful. Great video!

Hey Katie! I hope your having a nice festive hoo-ha.
I love Greasepaint Smile. I showed it in a recent video on US/Canadian folk rock artists. To be honest with you, while I kind of like her debut album, its a bit too fey and kooky for my more earthy and grounded taste. That's why Greasepaint Smile, were she'd shed much of the late 60s baroque folk style, is more up my street.
Like you I would love for her Asylum record to be released. Fingers crossed someone can find it.
Thanks for taking the time to highlight an artist who deserves better than to be a another footnote in rock musuc history.
    Cheers - Hedley

Deed I Do was a bit of a hit for her, at least in Vancouver where it made the top 10 in the CKLG RADIO Top 40 in 1969.
Billboard magazine in April '69 said of her and the single "New voice on the disk scene, and an unusual strong commercial sound it is. Folk rhythm ballad and this performance could prove a left field giant. Watch this one!. "

Thanks, never heard of her. Another one album woman: Cameo (1970) by Australian Marian Henderson. It was released in the USA, and Britain, I think. Also, Primordial Lovers (1970) by Essra Mohawk was once in Rolling Stone's top 20 albums - now its all but forgotten. Essra had an interesting career under a few different names. I think she passed in the last few years.

I have the 1971 album, Victoria, by the extremely obscure San Francisco folkie, Victoria Domagalski. Herbie Hancock and Ronnie Montrose play on it. She sang as a backing singer for Herbie. She was formally trained in music, which is reflected in the complexity of some of her songs. I think she released 2 albums. She's on discogs.

Interesting… I may not be from the 60s but I do sell psychedelic music and I am obscure because the genre is no longer about popular… I have a piece called Innocence Elise….. I’d like to hear this record that my own record but this record I listen to lots of music, including a lot of film music from the 1960s… I like to listen to a lot of serious movie, music and things like that helps to inspire me as well

I watched this whole video then I went and listened to all her music. She ain’t an unsung hero she is a not good enough to make it big just like the majority of songwriters, singers and musicians. I’m sure she was a cool hippie chick back in the day. I’m 75 years old and was part of “it” in the sixties myself. I was hoping for a lost treasure from the sixties.
