Just realized that this mic also can send a 32bit float signal directly to Audition and, at the same time, a backup 32bit signal recorded in a .WAV file in whatever folder you want. A bought a couple of Shure MV7+ yesterday and I'm amazed. Thanks for this review.
Thanks! As far as 32bit goes, I don't think it is capable of that. The specs say the A/D Converter is 24bit max so I'm thinking that maybe Audition (which I love and use) allows you to create a 32bit project but that is not based on what the mic is sending so it's not actually 32bit. However! This bit of information is interesting, "If your DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) is set to 32-bit processing but your microphone only outputs at a lower bit depth (like 16 or 24-bit), the audio signal will be "upconverted" to 32-bit within the DAW, allowing for more processing headroom and flexibility during recording and mixing, even though the original signal from the microphone is not natively 32-bit.... Upconversion: When a lower bit depth signal enters a 32-bit DAW, the software essentially calculates additional data points to create a 32-bit representation, which can be beneficial for processing but does not change the original information captured by the microphone" So there is some benefit of setting up the DAW in 32bit but it's not something that the mic is doing. Interesting stuff!

Thanks for the wonderful video. It helped me a lot to make the decision to buy it. I was in between MV7+ and SM7B (instead of the condenser mic I own currently). Let me write why I will buy that one instead of (wonderful) SM7B so it can help others to decide for their own case: 1) My primary use is going to be recording educational videos - as real-time as possible. I have a very busy schedule due to my main occupation although I would like to do things on my own rather than outsourcing them. So, it means that I have a very limited time for post-production. If I don't have to worry much about levels, noise, compression etc. and just record the videos, that is a great time and mental effort saver for me and I can focus on the content rather than technicalities. 2) I also would like to use it at work, for videoconferencing / online seminars. But due to strict security policies, I cannot install my audio interface driver for that. So, a plug and play USB sound interface with preprocessing set up already (I can do it in another computer) makes it perfect for me. That's probably my dealmaker. 3) We would record a podcast with a friend who lives in a different city through video conferences. So being able to use both USB and XLR at the same time, I can use it for the zoom call while recording my end in another machine. I don't have to worry about having to deal with two mics at the same time. other reasons MV7+ is decent but SM7B would have done a better job: A) I would like to be able to record vocals/guitar/instruments if I want to. MV7+ is not the best but seems to do much better than many podcast mics B) I need a mic with a good noise rejection because my working environment reflect sounds a from the walls and could get loud at times. C) I need a more natural, less "metallic" sounding mic. Unlike many other podcast-oriented mics out there.
The fact that it can be used in both USB and XLR modes simultaneously has been a godsend that I didn't know I'd benefit from when I originally purchased the mic (OG MV7). Makes my 2 PC streaming setup a breeze. I can run discord/ VOIP services on my Stream PC as opposed to my Gaming PC thus freeing up my CPU for more frames.
Going from the Yeti to the MV7+ will be a big improvement in noise isolation. Contenders (Yeti) definitely sound different than dynamics (MV7) so it might take getting used to but it's a good move. Thanks for watching and subbing!
I've watched your Shure MV7+ review video several times. I don't know which feature I like the most: Popper Stopper or Real Time Denoiser. Between that mic (Shure MV7+), Samson Q9U & Rode XDM-100, I'll continue to do some research & see which microphone is the best for my voice. Thank you for the detail Shure MV7+ video, R.O.
@@RayOrtega You're welcome. Oh, Rode XDM-100 is on sale on Amazon website right now ($168-$173 depending on the price). I've heard that USB mode for Shure MV7+ has been underwhelming while XLR mode sounds fantastic.
@@RetroBigCat75 Thanks for the heads up on the sale. It's so funny to me that I keep seeing people bring up that info about the MV7+ USB vs its XLR. I'm not sure where it's coming from exactly but clearly one of the more popular videos said it and several who saw it also saw my video and added that comment but honestly, I haven't had the same experience. I love the way the USB sounds. I think in this video and the video I just published about the MV7i, they both sound great on my voice via USB and in fact I think better than XLR lol. One issue is that everyone sounds different on every mic. So it's hard to say what is better, generally. It all comes down to how your voice sounds on any one mic. Unless there is a technical difference/issue with the USB that I'm not hearing, I don't agree with that assessment of the USB. But that's also why it's good that there are many reviews and not just one ;)
Sir as we understand, we can't use Motiv app features with XLR input. But what if we connect XLR output of mv7 to scarlet interface and then connect scarlet to pc via USB, then we will be able to use Motiv app features???
I think the key is that the digital processing is actually happening inside the MV7 itself therefore connecting it via XLR which is analog, won't give you the processing even if it's run through a USB interface.
Hi Is there a mike you would recommend more e than the MV7plus? I don't like the idea of very little access to the controls on the mike; preferably in the same price range. Great review, thanks!
The non-plus version, the MV7 has more controls on the mic and you can see my review here ruclips.net/video/y7bzS9dVLkg/видео.html that said, I don't know that having controls on the mic is that important. If you want the mic to have some FX on it, then you set that up once and you don't need to back into the controls and then you have the touch to mute which is probably the only real control you need but it's all personal preference, thanks for watching!
Thanks! I have the XLR Podmic and I like it though it's a little brighter than ideal, still a great mic for the price, build and look...feels like a tank. But I haven't tried the USB version yet. Appreciate the view and feedback.
I'm listening through Audio Technica M50s, and the two sound astonishingly similar--much more so than several other people's tests. I wonder whether if it's something about the timber of your voice? Or just having the settings dialed in to really nail it?
You probably have it right both ways. Definitely different voices will matter and that’s why it’s great that there are so many reviews so that hopefully you can find someone who has a similar voice to your own. There isn’t too much processing here but the MV7+ was using light compression and the Denoise was on. And the SM7B had some light compression to match but mostly they were just level matched. The SM7b is darker in its sound otherwise they sound very similar on my voice.

Thanks, I really appreciate the kind feedback! I didn't review the Rode PodMic USB but it seems like a nice mic. I have the original PodMic and it's a good mic, it might be a little brighter than I like but it's built well, looks great and sounds good too but there are many reviews of the USB version here to see if you like the sound of the USB version. I think the MV7+ probably has better processing, I really love the Denoise feature and I prefer the look but that's just up to you which one you like the look of better. I think you could choose either mic and be happy with your choice. When watching reviews, pay attention to how it sounds and how that matches your voice (is your voice higher or lower and would the mic complement that or enhance something about your voice you don't like). Then also look at the features of the mic, do you need a Denoiser or a mute on the mic itself, stuff like that and then make your choice. Of course budget would factor in as well but again I think either choice would be good. Thanks for watching.
@@NajiOnTop Just like desktop, you use the Motiv app to control the mic on your phone, assuming you have a compatible device which probably means something more recent (USB-C).
I've never tried the PodMic USB version, only the OG PodMic but this question seems to have popped up a couple times recently so I hope I can try it out some time and compare. Personally I think the look and function of the MV7+ would probably be my choice, I really like the noise reduction built in but again, I haven't tried the PodMic USB. I think it would probably come down to which one you think sounds better on your voice.
Thanks for this video Ray, really informative. One question: how is the MV7+ with room echo? I wonder if some of its DSP features could help with that.
When it comes to reverb reduction, there isn't really any mic that has that built into the software. It's a very hard thing to do even for the plugins that are built for that. The best thing to do is to treat the space you are recording in. Add softer, more furniture or I have even hung sound blankets up to absorb the reflections. Or it could be just choosing another room. However in addition to that, there are some AI enabled apps that are doing a good job of helping with audio that was recorded in an untreated space. Currently I'm using Adobe Podcast and it does a really nice job of knocking down some of that reverb and making the audio more present. I would also say to make sure you are really close to the mic. It can be tricky cause too close can cause plosives but if you angle the mic to point at the side of your mouth so that you are talking across the mic instead of directly into it, that can help avoid plosives and allow you to get really close. Every inch closer, should reduce the amount of reverb in your audio.

Im thinking of getting this Microphone, I currently have a USB yeti nano, its great for the beginning of my gaming career, but now as I develop into streaming, Im looking at the MV7+ and have the budget for it, just a question.... Do I need to have a XLR, I think you mentioned that I dont, also what extra's do I need, cords/cables etc? Thanks!
Good news, you don’t need anything extra with this mic. No XLR needed, it’s just a second option, and the USB cable you need to run things comes with the mic. It will work the same as your Nano. So if you don’t need a different workflow, then you’re set.

You could definitley use the MVX2U to connect the SM7db to your computer via USB but I haven't tested that converter yet so I don't know what the results would be. The nice thing of course is that the SM7db has the extra boost/preamp built in so that might compensate for the converter if it doesn't have enough gain. But now I want to to test it lol.

Great video! So if I set up the mic to sound how I want in motivmix I can then record in audacity and things like the de nosie and popper stopper will still be on for the mic?
No, the MotiveMix app is just for settings and recording. You'll need to edit the files in some audio editing software. Audacity is free, I use Adobe Audition but if you have a Mac, Garageband is also free and there are so many other apps in every price range.
As always, a great review. I held on to one of my older AT-2100 mics because it's just so easy to use on the fly with the USB. Were I looking for a mic that's solid enough for podcasting, online video game nights, and videos, the Shure MV7+ would be hard to pass by. I love my SM7B, but I don't use it for everything, simply because there's more set up. Both mics seem solid, and now when people ask me which mic to get, I can point them here 😀
Agree. This is the USB mic I’d be getting if I was starting today. It’s really good. Obviously for budget reasons the ATR series mics are great. Over the years I’ve fell out of favor with recommending them as much simply cause I’ve come to realize they are very sibilant. But they’re still good mics. Q2U a little smoother so that’s my goto reco in that range.
I'm looking to upgrade my mic coming from an Elgato Wave:3 for use in content creation and singing, however the elgato just doesn't do well when singing. Is this mic a worthy upgrade or should I be looking at an audio interface and something like an sE V7 or a shure SM58? Thanks for the great review! This helps a lot!
Glad this was helpful and your question is interesting. I don't know that I have the answer but often times the right mic is just based on what you like. The question becomes what you don't like about the Wave? What are you hearing that you don't like? It could be the recording environment, mic technique, post production, tranducer type, or of course the mic itself. For singing I would normally recommend a condenser but since the Wave is one, you might prefer the sound of a dynamic like the SM58. Sadly with mics, the real key is being able to try out your voice on each one and that is hard to do. Definitely let me know where you end up, I'm curious what you end up liking best for your voice and thanks for watching!
Hi Ray! Great video! I super appreciate it. Just wondering, how did you get the motiv mix app on your phone? When i tried it on mine (ip11), couldnt seem to find the app on the apple store. Im thinking maybe its a region thing? Or its a iphone model compatibility thing? Any thoughts?
@@RayOrtega oh gosh! I totally thought it needed to be motiv mix. Glad to know motiv audio and video work too. Another thing is that Ive been using this for vocals and noticed that when i do an extended note, the gain auto decreases even if I’m on manual, making my recording sound weird (limited on and off). Does that happen to you?
@@KathleenFrancisco I don't sing so I haven't heard an issue with long notes but maybe it's some other processing like noise suppression or compression. Try testing it with no effects at all enabled.
Thanks! You can record your audio in the Motiv App and then you'd have to sync that with your video in post but you could also record video into an app and then use this mic as the audio source. But as an example, I used the Motiv app to record a lot of the audio you hear in this video until I had to switch software (see 13:25) in order to demo some stuff in the Motiv app. So it's not a big deal to record in one app and sync the audio in post. Hope that's helpful!
From a sound perspective, it's subjective. Whichever one you think sounds better or you think fits your voice better, is better. They are both great. I haven't tried the PodMic USB, I only have the XLR version but it's a great mic. What I love about the MV7+ is that the settings are stored on the mic itself so they can be used on other devices without the software and the noise reduction is really good. If the PodMic has both of those, then it will come down to whichever you think sounds better.
It comes with a USB-C cable which you plug into your phone. Then you can use the Shure Motiv app to change settings and/or record or just use it with other apps.
@@RayOrtega I will not use headphones while recording. I just simply want plug, record and play mic for my iphone. So will i be able to hear the voice after recording without removing the wire connected on my iphone?
@@ca.asthavijjan In this case, the microphone is going to become your input and your output so you'd have to plug in earphones to listen back without unplugging the mic. A lot of mics work this way, it would be nice if you could select the speakers as the output but I don't know of a mic like that right now, off the top of my head and it's a really tricky thing to Google. I did test it with this other mic I reviewed ruclips.net/video/ptk8kdN9V_k/видео.html and it works, the audio plays back through the speakers so you can review it which is what I assume you're doing? My guess is that you want to make social content and check the clips before you post them? That Shure mic is pretty pricey however and doesn't work with third party apps without an adapter. There are cheaper type mics like the Hollyland ruclips.net/video/ptk8kdN9V_k/видео.html but I don't have it to test out to see if the playback will come through the phone speakers.Most USB mics are going to have a headphone option which then won't playback through the speakers, only the headphones. It's a tricky one and something manufactures should work on, being able to choose audio output source would be nice.
Hi Ray, are the features of the MOTIV Mix application available to original MV7s as well? I got prompted to switch over from ShurePlus MOTIV and downloaded, but I only have access to the basic gain/tone settings (no denoiser, popper stopper, etc).
The newest features of the MV7+ are actually inside the mic., which is very cool because you can set them and then take the mic., anywhere and have the same setup without needing the app. The downside would be that those features don't apply to the older mic.
@@jalalalqazwini6435 No, the DSP is Digital Signal Processing and the XLR would just be analog so you need the USB connection in order for the digital part to take place.
Sounds like maybe you are monitoring via the DAW/recording software? So maybe you are hearing that come back to you as well as the direct monitoring from the mic itself. Make sure you are only getting audio from the MV7 via one source, preferably the microphone only and not any software.
If you really want one, then yes. Cause you probably won't be happy until you at least try it if you keep thinking about it ;) But the Yeti is more than capable, used correctly and in the right setting. I don't know that you'll necessarily get a better sound so much as you'll get a different sound. It all comes down to what you like for your own voice. But also remember that you need a really good preamp/interface to push the SM7B and/or you might need a Fethead/Cloudlifter to go with it. So it's usually not just buying the 7b, it's more.
I was able to get the mic to work with a USB-C to USB-A cable. I don't know if this will work in every case since there are different USB-A ports but it works with my 2017 iMac.
I am a little bit confused about the XLR and USB functions.. Do i need a USB connection to mute the mic on the device itself or does it also work just using an XLR connection ?
When used as an XLR mic, that's all it is. No processing or digital functions of any kind. The mute or any effects like noise reduction etc are all digital functions aka they need the USB power to work with the software onboard. Hope that helps.
I don't have any experience with Huawei phones so I can't say, I don't know what software they run. The mic says it's compatible with iOS and Android but if the P30 has a USB-C port, it might work but again, I don't have a Huawei phone to test it with but there are probably some reviewers on here that do.

The problem is its subjective. I've seen that review too and I think the USB is just as good as the MV7. I've reviewed both mics so you can also watch my other review to see how the two differ on my voice via USB. I think they both sound great. But also when you review mics you start to hear the slightest of details that nobody who will hear your voice will ever hear. I think you'll love the MV7+.
Great Video, I have been using the MV7, not the plus. The micro usb literally fell out. Switched to XLR and it sounds AWFUL, any suggestion or if anyone wants to just simply help via discord that would be great. Thank you
dont know why but my Mic is recording way to much noise like when im breating or something and when i move it away it sounds like im in an Hallway or something any advice ?
A couple different things to check. If you're getting too much noise and breath, it sounds like maybe your gain settings are set wrong. Are you using the auto function? If yes, try manual, if using manual, try auto. There may also be too much compression which could be bringing up the noise floor. Try without compression and also try with the noise reduction on. If it sounds like you're in a hallway, make sure the reverb is turned off. If it's already off then you're likely recording in a space that has too much reverb/echo and need to be somewhere else and/or you need to stay close to the mic.
I just purchased the Shure MV7+. Does it bring much value to use the Shure RK345 Black Foam Replacement Windscreen for SM7A and SM7B Microphones instead of the one that comes with the MV7+? I read a lot that people replaced the windscreen for the MV7 but could not find much information with the newer MV7+.
I dont see an auto / manual gain mode on the motiv video app. I have issues recording the start of a video for guitar / music . The volumune adjusts noticeably ? any advice ? Thank you
If you haven't found it yet, make sure you update your app and then in the lower left of the video interface, it will tell you what mic you have connected and it will display 'auto' if it has the auto gain on. You can also click the little mic icon and in that section you will see an option to toggle auto gain on or off.
I have seen many reviews about this new Mv7+ and many people report the fact that this plus version sounds worse on USB than its predecessor Mv7, did you experienced the same "issue"?
I've heard that too but I don't hear it. Sounds great on my voice but that's just one sample. The key is to listen to all the samples you can find here and decide how it sounds to you, not necessarily how the reviewer thinks it sounds. As reviewers, we test a lot of mics and gear and we get way down in the weeds and tend to hear the smallest detail that 99.9% of the audience will never hear. I think it sounds great but it's definitely subjective and the only thing you can do is decide if it's good to you. Apart from there being an actual problem with the mic, it's going to just be opinion. So far I haven't heard of any issues with the mic, just opinions;) Thanks for watching.
hey guys I was wondering if anyone can help me fix the issue where it says I'm still using the old ShurePlus desktop app, but I have already removed the old and started using the new Motiv Mix desktop app for windows and it won't let me access the device settings in the Motiv Mix Desktop app.
hmm interesting one. Maybe reach out to Shure and see if they have thoughts. I just got an email about them getting rid of the old apps and having MotivMix only so maybe something was stuck in that transition. I'm on a mac so I'm less familiar with Windows apps. Make sure you're firmware is up to date as well as your operating system. And maybe try plugging the mic into your phone and using the app there if you are just trying to setup the mic with the settings you want.
I had the same issue just now. I deleted the old Shure Plus desktop app and installed the new MOTIV Mix. So far, I took @RayOrtega advice and made sure my OS system was updated. From there I closed the app and restarted my whole PC. Logged back in and started the MOTIV Mix desktop app. I found success and it's finally showing the manual settings and some additional things. Hope this helps
hey there, i have a question. when using the app with all the settings we can change, if we close out of the app do the settings we just changed save to the microphone itself? Or do I have to have the app constantly running in order to have my applied settings work?
Great news...yes! Check out from 1:28 where I talk about it. Set up the mic the way you want in the app and then you can take that mic to any other computer or even phone and it will have the same settings, even the denoiser...it's all inside!
Thanks for sharing, you really can't go wrong with either mic and in most cases the MV7+ is going to be a better choice cause it doesn't require any extra gear.
I’d say no. Of course pops depend on the person who is speaking. Every one has a different level of plosive that they produce but this version has given extra room between the windscreen and the capsule which helps more than it did on the first version. It also depends on mic placement. If your plosives are heavy you’ll want to speak into the mic off axis at more of an angle.
I ordered the mic and feel disappointed . I’ve seen that the cable included is usb c to usb c! I have windows laptop, no usb c port in my laptop… how to fix that?
Yeah it's a bummer that it doesn't come with both types of cables but I have a cable like this one (USBA to USBC) that I tested and it worked fine amzn.to/4aBFsFd. Not all cables and USB connections are the same, in my experience, but hopefully a cable like this will do what you need. These are a dime a dozen so buy whatever works for you and make sure it's returnable in case it doesn't work for you.

The one I linked to is Belkin which is just like all the other brands (Anker, etc). I generally like those two brands for third party parts. I don't think there will be any affect on quality, from what I know they're all just transferring 1 and 0s as opposed to what you find with analog where the signal can be affected by the cable. I'm also far from an expert so this is just my off-the-cuff assumptions and based on what I've tried.
This is hand-down the best video on Shure MV7+. The only video you need to see for MV7+. Your content is good. Why are you not viral yet?

The fact that it can be used in both USB and XLR modes simultaneously has been a godsend that I didn't know I'd benefit from when I originally purchased the mic (OG MV7). Makes my 2 PC streaming setup a breeze. I can run discord/ VOIP services on my Stream PC as opposed to my Gaming PC thus freeing up my CPU for more frames.
Yeah that's a cool setup, the dual output is definitely a nice feature.

Going from the Yeti to the MV7+ will be a big improvement in noise isolation. Contenders (Yeti) definitely sound different than dynamics (MV7) so it might take getting used to but it's a good move. Thanks for watching and subbing!

@@RetroBigCat75 Thanks for the heads up on the sale. It's so funny to me that I keep seeing people bring up that info about the MV7+ USB vs its XLR. I'm not sure where it's coming from exactly but clearly one of the more popular videos said it and several who saw it also saw my video and added that comment but honestly, I haven't had the same experience. I love the way the USB sounds. I think in this video and the video I just published about the MV7i, they both sound great on my voice via USB and in fact I think better than XLR lol. One issue is that everyone sounds different on every mic. So it's hard to say what is better, generally. It all comes down to how your voice sounds on any one mic. Unless there is a technical difference/issue with the USB that I'm not hearing, I don't agree with that assessment of the USB. But that's also why it's good that there are many reviews and not just one ;)

Sir as we understand, we can't use Motiv app features with XLR input. But what if we connect XLR output of mv7 to scarlet interface and then connect scarlet to pc via USB, then we will be able to use Motiv app features???
I think the key is that the digital processing is actually happening inside the MV7 itself therefore connecting it via XLR which is analog, won't give you the processing even if it's run through a USB interface.

The non-plus version, the MV7 has more controls on the mic and you can see my review here ruclips.net/video/y7bzS9dVLkg/видео.html that said, I don't know that having controls on the mic is that important. If you want the mic to have some FX on it, then you set that up once and you don't need to back into the controls and then you have the touch to mute which is probably the only real control you need but it's all personal preference, thanks for watching!

I'm listening through Audio Technica M50s, and the two sound astonishingly similar--much more so than several other people's tests. I wonder whether if it's something about the timber of your voice? Or just having the settings dialed in to really nail it?
You probably have it right both ways. Definitely different voices will matter and that’s why it’s great that there are so many reviews so that hopefully you can find someone who has a similar voice to your own. There isn’t too much processing here but the MV7+ was using light compression and the Denoise was on. And the SM7B had some light compression to match but mostly they were just level matched. The SM7b is darker in its sound otherwise they sound very similar on my voice.

Thanks, I really appreciate the kind feedback! I didn't review the Rode PodMic USB but it seems like a nice mic. I have the original PodMic and it's a good mic, it might be a little brighter than I like but it's built well, looks great and sounds good too but there are many reviews of the USB version here to see if you like the sound of the USB version. I think the MV7+ probably has better processing, I really love the Denoise feature and I prefer the look but that's just up to you which one you like the look of better. I think you could choose either mic and be happy with your choice. When watching reviews, pay attention to how it sounds and how that matches your voice (is your voice higher or lower and would the mic complement that or enhance something about your voice you don't like). Then also look at the features of the mic, do you need a Denoiser or a mute on the mic itself, stuff like that and then make your choice. Of course budget would factor in as well but again I think either choice would be good. Thanks for watching.

Mv7+ or rode podmic usb which one is good?
I've never tried the PodMic USB version, only the OG PodMic but this question seems to have popped up a couple times recently so I hope I can try it out some time and compare. Personally I think the look and function of the MV7+ would probably be my choice, I really like the noise reduction built in but again, I haven't tried the PodMic USB. I think it would probably come down to which one you think sounds better on your voice.
Thanks for this video Ray, really informative. One question: how is the MV7+ with room echo? I wonder if some of its DSP features could help with that.
When it comes to reverb reduction, there isn't really any mic that has that built into the software. It's a very hard thing to do even for the plugins that are built for that. The best thing to do is to treat the space you are recording in. Add softer, more furniture or I have even hung sound blankets up to absorb the reflections. Or it could be just choosing another room. However in addition to that, there are some AI enabled apps that are doing a good job of helping with audio that was recorded in an untreated space. Currently I'm using Adobe Podcast and it does a really nice job of knocking down some of that reverb and making the audio more present. I would also say to make sure you are really close to the mic. It can be tricky cause too close can cause plosives but if you angle the mic to point at the side of your mouth so that you are talking across the mic instead of directly into it, that can help avoid plosives and allow you to get really close. Every inch closer, should reduce the amount of reverb in your audio.

Im thinking of getting this Microphone, I currently have a USB yeti nano, its great for the beginning of my gaming career, but now as I develop into streaming, Im looking at the MV7+ and have the budget for it, just a question.... Do I need to have a XLR, I think you mentioned that I dont, also what extra's do I need, cords/cables etc? Thanks!
Good news, you don’t need anything extra with this mic. No XLR needed, it’s just a second option, and the USB cable you need to run things comes with the mic. It will work the same as your Nano. So if you don’t need a different workflow, then you’re set.

You could definitley use the MVX2U to connect the SM7db to your computer via USB but I haven't tested that converter yet so I don't know what the results would be. The nice thing of course is that the SM7db has the extra boost/preamp built in so that might compensate for the converter if it doesn't have enough gain. But now I want to to test it lol.

No, the MotiveMix app is just for settings and recording. You'll need to edit the files in some audio editing software. Audacity is free, I use Adobe Audition but if you have a Mac, Garageband is also free and there are so many other apps in every price range.
As always, a great review. I held on to one of my older AT-2100 mics because it's just so easy to use on the fly with the USB. Were I looking for a mic that's solid enough for podcasting, online video game nights, and videos, the Shure MV7+ would be hard to pass by. I love my SM7B, but I don't use it for everything, simply because there's more set up.

Agree. This is the USB mic I’d be getting if I was starting today. It’s really good. Obviously for budget reasons the ATR series mics are great. Over the years I’ve fell out of favor with recommending them as much simply cause I’ve come to realize they are very sibilant. But they’re still good mics. Q2U a little smoother so that’s my goto reco in that range.
I'm looking to upgrade my mic coming from an Elgato Wave:3 for use in content creation and singing, however the elgato just doesn't do well when singing. Is this mic a worthy upgrade or should I be looking at an audio interface and something like an sE V7 or a shure SM58? Thanks for the great review! This helps a lot!
Glad this was helpful and your question is interesting. I don't know that I have the answer but often times the right mic is just based on what you like. The question becomes what you don't like about the Wave? What are you hearing that you don't like? It could be the recording environment, mic technique, post production, tranducer type, or of course the mic itself. For singing I would normally recommend a condenser but since the Wave is one, you might prefer the sound of a dynamic like the SM58. Sadly with mics, the real key is being able to try out your voice on each one and that is hard to do. Another thing is that Ive been using this for vocals and noticed that when i do an extended note, the gain auto decreases even if I’m on manual, making my recording sound weird (limited on and off). Does that happen to you?
@@KathleenFrancisco I don't sing so I haven't heard an issue with long notes but maybe it's some other processing like noise suppression or compression. Try testing it with no effects at all enabled.

Thanks! You can record your audio in the Motiv App and then you'd have to sync that with your video in post but you could also record video into an app and then use this mic as the audio source. But as an example, I used the Motiv app to record a lot of the audio you hear in this video until I had to switch software (see 13:25) in order to demo some stuff in the Motiv app. So it's not a big deal to record in one app and sync the audio in post. Hope that's helpful!

From a sound perspective, it's subjective. Whichever one you think sounds better or you think fits your voice better, is better. They are both great. I haven't tried the PodMic USB, I only have the XLR version but it's a great mic. What I love about the MV7+ is that the settings are stored on the mic itself so they can be used on other devices without the software and the noise reduction is really good. If the PodMic has both of those, then it will come down to whichever you think sounds better.

It comes with a USB-C cable which you plug into your phone. Then you can use the Shure Motiv app to change settings and/or record or just use it with other apps.

@@ca.asthavijjan In this case, the microphone is going to become your input and your output so you'd have to plug in earphones to listen back without unplugging the mic. A lot of mics work this way, it would be nice if you could select the speakers as the output but I don't know of a mic like that right now, off the top of my head and it's a really tricky thing to Google. I did test it with this other mic I reviewed ruclips.net/video/ptk8kdN9V_k/видео.html and it works, the audio plays back through the speakers so you can review it which is what I assume you're doing? My guess is that you want to make social content and check the clips before you post them? That Shure mic is pretty pricey however and doesn't work with third party apps without an adapter. There are cheaper type mics like the Hollyland ruclips.net/video/ptk8kdN9V_k/видео.html but I don't have it to test out to see if the playback will come through the phone speakers.Most USB mics are going to have a headphone option which then won't playback through the speakers, only the headphones. It's a tricky one and something manufactures should work on, being able to choose audio output source would be nice.
Hi Ray, are the features of the MOTIV Mix application available to original MV7s as well? I got prompted to switch over from ShurePlus MOTIV and downloaded, but I only have access to the basic gain/tone settings (no denoiser, popper stopper, etc).
The newest features of the MV7+ are actually inside the mic., which is very cool because you can set them and then take the mic., anywhere and have the same setup without needing the app. The downside would be that those features don't apply to the older mic.

@@jalalalqazwini6435 No, the DSP is Digital Signal Processing and the XLR would just be analog so you need the USB connection in order for the digital part to take place.
How come I hear echoes and how can I stop this?
Sounds like maybe you are monitoring via the DAW/recording software? So maybe you are hearing that come back to you as well as the direct monitoring from the mic itself. Make sure you are only getting audio from the MV7 via one source, preferably the microphone only and not any software.

If you really want one, then yes. Cause you probably won't be happy until you at least try it if you keep thinking about it ;) But the Yeti is more than capable, used correctly and in the right setting. I don't know that you'll necessarily get a better sound so much as you'll get a different sound. It all comes down to what you like for your own voice. But also remember that you need a really good preamp/interface to push the SM7B and/or you might need a Fethead/Cloudlifter to go with it. So it's usually not just buying the 7b, it's more.

I was able to get the mic to work with a USB-C to USB-A cable. I don't know if this will work in every case since there are different USB-A ports but it works with my 2017 iMac.

The red light means the mic is muted. Touch the light and it will unmute or check the Motiv software to make sure you it's not locked on.

I am a little bit confused about the XLR and USB functions.. Do i need a USB connection to mute the mic on the device itself or does it also work just using an XLR connection ?
When used as an XLR mic, that's all it is. No processing or digital functions of any kind. The mute or any effects like noise reduction etc are all digital functions aka they need the USB power to work with the software onboard. Hope that helps.

You’re in Auto setting. Those controls go away when In auto mode because the software is doing it for you.
Can you connect it to Huawei smartphone (P30 EMUI)?
I don't have any experience with Huawei phones so I can't say, I don't know what software they run. The mic says it's compatible with iOS and Android but if the P30 has a USB-C port, it might work but again, I don't have a Huawei phone to test it with but there are probably some reviewers on here that do.

The problem is its subjective. I've seen that review too and I think the USB is just as good as the MV7. I've reviewed both mics so you can also watch my other review to see how the two differ on my voice via USB. I think they both sound great. But also when you review mics you start to hear the slightest of details that nobody who will hear your voice will ever hear. I think you'll love the MV7+.

dont know why but my Mic is recording way to much noise like when im breating or something and when i move it away it sounds like im in an Hallway or something any advice ?
A couple different things to check. If you're getting too much noise and breath, it sounds like maybe your gain settings are set wrong. Are you using the auto function? If yes, try manual, if using manual, try auto. There may also be too much compression which could be bringing up the noise floor. Try without compression and also try with the noise reduction on. If it sounds like you're in a hallway, make sure the reverb is turned off. If it's already off then you're likely recording in a space that has too much reverb/echo and need to be somewhere else and/or you need to stay close to the mic.
I just purchased the Shure MV7+. Does it bring much value to use the Shure RK345 Black Foam Replacement Windscreen for SM7A and SM7B Microphones instead of the one that comes with the MV7+? I read a lot that people replaced the windscreen for the MV7 but could not find much information with the newer MV7+.

I dont see an auto / manual gain mode on the motiv video app. I have issues recording the start of a video for guitar / music . The volumune adjusts noticeably ? any advice ? Thank you
If you haven't found it yet, make sure you update your app and then in the lower left of the video interface, it will tell you what mic you have connected and it will display 'auto' if it has the auto gain on. You can also click the little mic icon and in that section you will see an option to toggle auto gain on or off.
I have seen many reviews about this new Mv7+ and many people report the fact that this plus version sounds worse on USB than its predecessor Mv7, did you experienced the same "issue"?
I've heard that too but I don't hear it. Sounds great on my voice but that's just one sample. The key is to listen to all the samples you can find here and decide how it sounds to you, not necessarily how the reviewer thinks it sounds. As reviewers, we test a lot of mics and gear and we get way down in the weeds and tend to hear the smallest detail that 99.9% of the audience will never hear. I think it sounds great but it's definitely subjective and the only thing you can do is decide if it's good to you. Apart from there being an actual problem with the mic, it's going to just be opinion. So far I haven't heard of any issues with the mic, just opinions;) Thanks for watching.

hey guys I was wondering if anyone can help me fix the issue where it says I'm still using the old ShurePlus desktop app, but I have already removed the old and started using the new Motiv Mix desktop app for windows and it won't let me access the device settings in the Motiv Mix Desktop app.

hmm interesting one. Maybe reach out to Shure and see if they have thoughts. I just got an email about them getting rid of the old apps and having MotivMix only so maybe something was stuck in that transition. I'm on a mac so I'm less familiar with Windows apps. Make sure you're firmware is up to date as well as your operating system. And maybe try plugging the mic into your phone and using the app there if you are just trying to setup the mic with the settings you want.
I had the same issue just now. I deleted the old Shure Plus desktop app and installed the new MOTIV Mix. So far, I took @RayOrtega advice and made sure my OS system was updated. From there I closed the app and restarted my whole PC. Logged back in and started the MOTIV Mix desktop app. I found success and it's finally showing the manual settings and some additional things. Hope this helps

Great news...yes! Check out from 1:28 where I talk about it. Set up the mic the way you want in the app and then you can take that mic to any other computer or even phone and it will have the same settings, even the denoiser...it's all inside!
Honestly the MV7+ sounds better to me (Than the SM7B), but again, as you also said, it is extremely subjective.

I’d say no. Of course pops depend on the person who is speaking. Every one has a different level of plosive that they produce but this version has given extra room between the windscreen and the capsule which helps more than it did on the first version. It also depends on mic placement. If your plosives are heavy you’ll want to speak into the mic off axis at more of an angle.

Yeah it's a bummer that it doesn't come with both types of cables but I have a cable like this one (USBA to USBC) that I tested and it worked fine amzn.to/4aBFsFd. Not all cables and USB connections are the same, in my experience, but hopefully a cable like this will do what you need. These are a dime a dozen so buy whatever works for you and make sure it's returnable in case it doesn't work for you.

The one I linked to is Belkin which is just like all the other brands (Anker, etc). I generally like those two brands for third party parts. I don't think there will be any affect on quality, from what I know they're all just transferring 1 and 0s as opposed to what you find with analog where the signal can be affected by the cable. I'm also far from an expert so this is just my off-the-cuff assumptions and based on what I've tried.
