    I reckon replay channels are more reflective of how inconvenient a game's replay archive is, as opposed to a content theft issue.
    Searching a replay on YT is much easier than trying to navigate other's replays on ggst. Especially compared to SF6's replay archive.
    Also nice to have a library of footage somewhere other than a game's servers.

    There's definitely benefits to having easily accessible replays for top players. I know I like watching them to learn new things for my characters. Having played other games where all you have for resources are whole tournament vods, where your only option is to skim through hoping to find a good player of a specific character (or god forbid a specific matchup), I see why these channels would be popular. There are some questions to the morality of monetizing others' raw replays, though I think channels like Fraud's are quite welcome (assuming the analysis is actually good), as they add another layer to the raw replay that is transformative.

    Fraud level gameplay gotta be my favorite “replay vulture” ngl. In my opinion I think these replay vultures are MOSTLY fine, it gives lower skill players a way to analyze and learn from high level players really easily, but some of the people in the videos don’t consent to having their replays reposted, which I feel like they should take more consideration into that. I think that at the bare minimum GGST high level gameplay should ask before posting the replays if it’s okay to use their replays instead of just posting em.

    • @espernova228
      @espernova228 2 месяца назад +3

      Doesnt the game give the replays away for free? Consent?

    • @Randomgalthe1st
      @Randomgalthe1st 2 месяца назад

      @@espernova228 that is true but most people use the replay feature to look at their own replays, not each other’s. I’ve rarely have used the look at other’s replays so correct me if I’m wrong, but it’s hard to know if the people you’re watching in celestial are actually high level players or someone who just got out of floor 10 due to the way strive’s ranking system works, which is why replay vultures exist in the first place. And strive usually recommends replays of players around your skill level instead of above it.
      Basically most replays of high level players aren’t taken to a larger audience to be analyzed, and most players are ok with that; which is why I think that the replay vulture channels should at least ask both players if they want to be featured in replays.

  • @13thephantom
    @13thephantom 2 месяца назад +12

    Actually funny thing about Fraud Gameplay, they're moreso proving a point by posting these replays. Showing that Tower's rating system is so skewed it's causing people to literally cheese the system for no other reason than clout. It also helps that Fraud gameplay knows what they're talking about when talking combos and such, makes me think they're a probable top player themselves who made the channel

  • @Dumah36
    @Dumah36 2 месяца назад +5

    like it or not there is nothing wrong about doing it. It's an old topic and some FGC icons have complained.
    The thing is no player owns any rights to game play footage at all.
    The replays are public and in fact are owned by the companies respectively. (ASW Capcom, Bandai etc)
    Some ppl dont like it but by the ToS they have nothing to claim.
    As long as no one is straight up coping a video they edited and created (excluding replays they upload non edited) there is no wrong doing.

    ... What was the point of this video?
    You start talking about 'replay vultures' as though they're a bad thing, and then don't take either side on it. You define 'replay vultures' as people that take raw gameplay and upload them without editing, and then talk at length about GGST Fraud Gameplay, who is clearly providing in depth commentary (which is no longer unedited).
    If someone is upset with someone uploading their sets, why not do it themselves? If I want to watch some new high level matchups on my break, am I expected to take my PC to work and boot up Strive? I don't see any issues with having accessible gameplay videos. If anyone can already find and watch these through the games, there's no difference from making it more accessible.

  • @smuckers7899
    @smuckers7899 2 месяца назад +1

    I feel the argument of people not wanting THEIR gameplay to be featured is...a bit silly.
    The main instance I could find for this is if you're a content creator and want to use that game in your content or you stream and that game was in your stream. That would be a reason that exists outside of the game itself.
    But if you're playing offline, you're not entitled to your gameplay. You don't own the game in any capacity, especially when replays are already public. The only difference is the accessibility of it and theres someone making money off of it, which I feel is redundant because previously no one was making money off of it. So, I don't see the harm, make your bag. (again unless its the content creation perspective).
    There are also a couple of reasons I'd prefer them over a particular content creator (i.e. larger pool of material to study, larger variety in said pool, no commentary, etc.). Obviously actual content creators and high level players provide perspective but I think both types of channels provide value even if some takes more effort than the other
    I feel it's a non-issue. They're at best a good way to find character-specific MUs and optimal gameplay for newer players and sometimes just sick clips from up and coming players who're willing to take down replays if someone asks in most instances. And at worst they're taking advantage of a poor system to make easy money. Even then, I think the pros outweigh the cons
    (This mainly applies to GGST: High Level Gameplay, I don't really watch anyone else so take it with a grain of salt)

    People gloss over the fact that what we call "vultures" are simply performing a curation service that makes it so I don't have to search for replays myself. I think they are more helpful to the community than anyone would care to admit, but high level players prolly hate them because they do not benefit from the service. There is also probably more than a little resentment over the idea that other people are monetising "their content" (that they refuse to monetise themselves).

  • @leqeque7383
    @leqeque7383 2 месяца назад +3

    On a level of technicalities - this is NOT "someone else's" gameplay. The person starts their own copy of guilty gear and records their own guilty gear screen. That just so happens to have people other than the recorder playing
    If you want to go down that road - the players who post their games rarely if ever share revenue with people they played with, so thats 50% of "vulture' aspect
    And then there's you vulturing with literally no gameplay of your own, just providing commentary
    So you would be wise to think twice before going down that rabbit hole

With how long it takes to access anything online in strive, and how tedious the search feature is to use they make it really easy to find decent quality gameplay for any character in the game. I remember after the Undernight 2 beta came out and the only gameplay footage I could find of the character I mained was some guy going 0-2 against Sajam. Plus having them on RUclips allows you to have the game on one screen, and the video on the other meaning you don’t need to constantly exit training mode to check what happened in the replay. You also no longer need to worry about day one character guides coming up over any current patch gameplay.
