Hi, I'm Ryan Jones. I'm a colorectal surgeon at Norton Women's and Children's Hospital.
I love colorectal surgery for a multitude of reasons. One, I get to take care of patients, which is the number one reason I went into medicine, but also I get to go through over a long course. I get to take care of patients with cancer. I get to help treat people with cancer. I also get to help people with a miserable problems that you would not normally go to the doctor for, and hopefully with some minor interventions we can make things a lot better. People always are happy when they can sit down without pain.
With a lot of our noninvasive and minimally invasive procedures, we can really help people with problems they are afraid to talk about or afraid to go see a physician for. We can make their quality of life so much better, whether that be with pain or discomfort, bleeding, or just peace of mind knowing that nothing is bad is going on. We can really hopefully make people feel comfortable when they come to see us. It's not always easy coming to see somebody about colorectal issues, but hopefully we can make this process pretty easy for everybody.
I'm originally from Kentucky. I grew up in Simpsonville just outside of Louisville. I went to undergraduate and medical school at the University of Louisville. I then went to do my general surgery residency at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. Then I did a fellowship in colorectal surgery at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. And now I'm back home.
Love to travel. I tried to go on a national trip at least once a year. I also love going out trying new restaurants. Google's great for that. I'm glad to be back home for all those reasons. I'm also a huge tennis fan and tennis player. As a Kentucky boy, I love horse racing.
