Had L4-L5 L5 - S1 done 3 months ago. Best decision of my life. Have my mobility back and I’m 💯 pain free. I hope you continue to heal well and wish you the very best going forward.
Thank you thank you thank you for making these videos! I’m scheduled for L5/S1 discectomy in two weeks and my surgeon is not super helpful with easing my anxiety. I haven’t had much information about what post-op looks like, and of course the fear of the unknown is making my anxiety just skyrocket. At least I have somewhat of an idea of what to expect 😊
Do your best to get hydrated and stay hydrated. I had this exact surgery in January 2020 and the shot of steroids after surgery with the shock of surgery on my body caused some pretty bad constipation that put me in the ER as I couldn’t pass it on my own without compromising my surgery. Praying for your recovery! Almost three years later and the surgery was the best decision of my life!
I’m so sorry this was needed, I have been there, I had l5-s1 laminectomy- discectomy twice and then ended up in fusion. Sending my love and a quick recovery !
Thank you for providing this info! I’m having this surgery (and removal of sacrum tumor) next month. I’m really scared how it’ll be after surgery. Nerve issues/not being able to feel my legs afterwards is one of my big fears! I pray you have a speedy recovery!
I have had 2 of those. One was right side. And the second was left and right. I also had the facet joint epidurals and a nerve rhizotomy and now I have a spinal cord stimulator. The neuropathy in my feet and hands is terrible . It has been 13 years of progression. I can say the first discetomy I had was 💯 % helpful and wonderful. I had none of the pain that I had prior to the operation just a little surgical pain. The second one was 3 years later, helped but I ended up with an infection so it didn’t heal as good as the first. My back gives me the least trouble. It’s my neuropathy that gives me the most trouble. Complete numbness in both feet and now it has progressed to my hands. They don’t think my neuropathy is from the back surgeries or injuries that it is just small nerve fiber neuropathy. So please don’t think I am saying it gets worse. Because having the back surgeries was very helpful to my back pain. I will say take the pain meds!!! Stay ahead of the pain!! 3rd day is always the hardest!!!!!
I know this was a few months ago, but I am hoping that you continue to heal up quick! I have spondylolisthesis L5 S1, but having fusion to fix the slip is a last resort. I cannot take pain medication, so I would be doing months of recovery and PT without any relief. I deal with nerve pain every day from my back into my legs and feet. Truly awful stuff I wouldn't wish on anyone. Hope all is well!
I had the exact same surgery. It was the WORST thing I ever did! He didn't stabilize my spine, so 4 months post op my disk herniated again and then another herniated. Wish you better than me!
I just had surgery on 5/7 of both the L4 and L5 along with L5&S1 everything went ok just having numbness in my right foot called the doctors office they said it was normal that it will take time for it to go back to normal.

I am taking stool softeners, drinking a ton and avoiding the pain killers to help. I heard constipation can be awful

My dr reassured me a lot and I am so grateful! But yes it is scary. However, it will get better. Our nerves just need to heal

Just curious I'm have this surgery soon and was wondering can you do light walks right after surgery? And do you have to wear a catheter?

i can relate, ugh
i get them often and they are no fun
glad it’s not from the anesthesia….
was worried you were swollen from that
Yeah I get them when I am stressed and of course I got one right before surgery
Epidural injections made me worse.
Sending prayers for a speedy recovery!
