My grandma used to use one that she had kept from the 80s. She used it almost daily with boiling water(!) and then I used it lots when I'd stay with her. As far as I know it outlasted her , no disrespect. I think it proves that rubber of past years was much better quality compared to today. I'd never had a single issue with that bottle , it kept me warm many nights.

You're not supposed to put boiling water in them in the first place. It clearly says that on the label if people cared enough to look. The boiling heat makes the rubber wear down over time until eventually they will burst.
I feel so sorry for her that she was using it for her endometriosis pain as well 😣❤ Hot water bottles have always scared me. I stopped my endometriosis pain by taking the progesterone pill every day so I never have a period, it's changed my life.
I now have a fear of hot water bottles after filling one up and accidentally pouring the kettle all over my hand. Aw the pain, I feel for this young lady
I tried to buy a new hot water bottle last week. Tesco's and Asda both selling new bottles that were already out of date. Told shop managers and left with nothing. Have since been unable to find any bottle for sale that's manufactured after 2022. It's crazy.
I got one from home bargains my Gran got me as a gift and it burst a few days after she got it I was in hospital for 3 days and now still have scars from it.
This happened to me, I got horribly scarred, but it did fade slightly in time. I guarantee this girl put boiling water straight in the HWB without letting it stand for five minutes and mixing it with a little bit of cold. Makes the hwb’s inner coating degrade very quickly, even if they’re rated for two years.
@@rangochu2713 yep, completely. There does need to be better instructions but a HWB should only be filled halfway with a recently boiled kettle’s water (not freshly boiled) and then topped up to 3/4 full with cool water.
allways fill the bottle to 70-80% full then get rid of the trapped air before plugging will help stop it bursting used mine for years never had a problem i just put in a pillowcase
I've had hot water bottles for years, the old ones lasted me years. Noticed the new ones made burst quickly. Also they can be dangerous when filling, as the hot water can pop back up in your face, so im very careful when filling. They do like little heat blankets now, i have one for my back. Which uses electricity obviously but they're good for pain etc. If someone lays on it frequently will weaken it also.
I’ve heard before you’re not supposed to put boiling water in one, but how hot should the water be? Do you boil it then let it cool 5 minutes, 10 minutes? Do you use a thermometer to test the temp before filling it up? What is the guidance for this?
You can get those kettles now where you can chose the temp you want for each boil. Which is good for energy save. I don’t have one but I do tend to boil the kettle then leave it about 5 minutes. OR boil kettle and pour in some cold into kettle.
This happened to me too! I had a burn on my stomach 2 years ago from the water bubbling over, but the second time another hot water bottle which was old, suddenly burst and burnt my back. Thankfully most of it went on my blankets. I'm still laying here with a hot water bottle but mainly now I use an electric one.
I had third degree burns from using a water bottle which I used after my Hysterectomy, I had it resting on a towel on my belly, I fell asleep and the bottle slipped I woke up with a huge water blister and spent months at the doctors surgery!
Hello, my advice is to use a fabric sleeve on top of the rubber/water bottle, and then also simply leave your hot water bottle under the duvet cover to warm up the bed 1.5 hours prior to sleeping, then remove it when you get into bed
My best advice is to get a cold pack instead (hear me out ok). one of those refillable cold/ice packs (you can get different sizes and stuff), fill it with warm/hot sink water and it’ll will keep you warm just the same. You can usually add more water than with a regular hot water bottle so it lasts longer. But you can also use this for cold pack obviously which is really good for headaches and migraines. Another great use is to fill it with cold/icy water during summer when it’s really warm and you can put it on your chest to bring your body temperature down to sleep easier.
People fill them up and don’t squeeze the air out. Way more likely to pop that way. There’s also bags you can stick in the microwave that work the same. Obviously, you need a microwave, but no water involved.
Got a third degree burn it was awful but I have luckily recovered and there is no scar. I owned 4 and they all went to the bin. Mine burst and it was brand new less than a week old.
When I was younger my nan gave to me and the top came off and I did tighten it up so I've never used one since. Have seen them recently on the shelfs for sale so becarful guys and I'm so sorry for this girl who got burnt
Well she said that but when you struggle with painful periods you need that very hot water to ease the pain because when the water is that hot inside it really helps the pain.
You have to put a small amount of cold water in first, then when you’ve boiled the kettle, you need to wait 5 mins to allow the water to cool before pouring in. And push the excess air out, once filled by 3/4 full or so, before sealing with the cap.
I’ve had a hot water bottle burst I had burns and blisters all over my back luckily it healed but I was in agony for months after it, I would’ve stopped using hot water bottles after that happened but it’s the only thing that helps with my back pain I’ve been to the doctors to get help for pain relief but nothing helps apart from the hot water bottle.
It's full of hot water... That's why you wrap it up before you use it... And you don't fill them past the max line inside...Or, it will explode...I don't get people's shock. I'm worried about that. But i hope this girl is okay.
