    My grandma used to use one that she had kept from the 80s. She used it almost daily with boiling water(!) and then I used it lots when I'd stay with her. As far as I know it outlasted her , no disrespect. I think it proves that rubber of past years was much better quality compared to today. I'd never had a single issue with that bottle , it kept me warm many nights.

    I've had hot water bottles for years, the old ones lasted me years. Noticed the new ones made burst quickly. Also they can be dangerous when filling, as the hot water can pop back up in your face, so im very careful when filling. They do like little heat blankets now, i have one for my back. Which uses electricity obviously but they're good for pain etc. If someone lays on it frequently will weaken it also.

    I’ve heard before you’re not supposed to put boiling water in one, but how hot should the water be? Do you boil it then let it cool 5 minutes, 10 minutes? Do you use a thermometer to test the temp before filling it up? What is the guidance for this?

    • @helenknight2796
      @helenknight2796 4 месяца назад +4

      You can get those kettles now where you can chose the temp you want for each boil. Which is good for energy save. I don’t have one but I do tend to boil the kettle then leave it about 5 minutes. OR boil kettle and pour in some cold into kettle.

    My best advice is to get a cold pack instead (hear me out ok). one of those refillable cold/ice packs (you can get different sizes and stuff), fill it with warm/hot sink water and it’ll will keep you warm just the same. You can usually add more water than with a regular hot water bottle so it lasts longer. But you can also use this for cold pack obviously which is really good for headaches and migraines. Another great use is to fill it with cold/icy water during summer when it’s really warm and you can put it on your chest to bring your body temperature down to sleep easier.

  • @JossBailey-v5c

    People fill them up and don’t squeeze the air out. Way more likely to pop that way.

    She says that every hot water bottle is tested to a British standard, but is that literally every single bottle? Because if not, then an expiry date from the date of manufacture needs to be standardized. There is no use in the manufacturers and retailers saying that their bottles are good to use for “X” amount of time from purchase, if each and every bottle has not been tested. If a bottle is made in 1959, but I purchase it today and it hasn’t been _recentlly_ tested, how can I trust that it is safe to use?

    My family have been using hot water bottles for the past 30 years and mine is 20 years old and is still going strong. Probably much better made 20 years ago so I'm sticking with what I have. Things are made cheap and in poor quality in this day and age

    Well I rather hope the hot water bottle wasn’t plastic ..... should be rubber p ...... and why boil a kettle? ALL instructions on the things tell you NOT to put boiling water in them
