- Since the dawn of time, man has come up with wonderful ideas that turn out to be short-lived, poorly executed or just straight-up stupid. But for city planners, there must be something even more painful about your perfectly-constructed city being left to rot without the appreciation it deserved. From an abandoned mining island to a 'ghost utopia' in the middle of China, here are the 15 Largest Abandoned Cities in the World!

Thanks! I was only interested in ones in the US. We pretty much know what happens in the other countries.
The fact that China is over populated & has been for years yet they have an uninhabited city is wild .
The Chinese government lacks logic in more ways than one.
.....Judge your own damn country.
Maniae Official I did. It’s garbage.
I dont get why cities in china arent filled with people, its comfusing and i dont like being rude, but why
@@magicrabbit9446 They said most of the places were rented out, it's just no one hardly goes there because unlike America where most people in the cities have cars and drive everywhere, they aren't use to that option since they have a great public transit system, a majority don't own cars, or know how to drive. Most likely the wealthy is the only ones who could afford to live there and most of the time they buy to invest their money and not to actually live in all the locations they probably own. Just sad to see all these cities that are inhabited or could be inhabited by the homeless have people in power that rather see it rot then share it.
It’s not abandoned if there is 1 million people living there
That's what people are good for here in the world making the world look like a junkyard they seem to know how to scatter all his junk all over the world to make it look like shit

Just so you know, Varosha isn't closed to the public, because when I was 14 I was one of the first people amongst a line of about 400 to enter the city after 26 years of it being abandoned. We went on a tour around the city, and it's creepy as hell, many buildings are riddled with bullet holes, plates remain on restaurant tables, plants grow out of the hotels etc, it was an amazing experience.
These city structures are beautiful but nothing is more beautiful when you are at home in it
King Bashi: we have population of 100k.
RUclipsr: I now declare your city as abandoned.
This kind of mini documentaries are very interesting if the facts were accurate. The Italian city Balestrino is inhabitable due to too many earthquakes in the regions that give a grand instability to the ground. People left in 1950 for safety, it was only 400 people back then, the maximum habitants that Balestrino has know was around 800.
And that's why it's not opened to the public.
The idea behind this video was great, make sure you know your stories though
the title: top largest abandoned cities
the video: shows a village
LOL

😁😁
Balestrino is no mistery. Why are you posting random ideas without even fact checking first your information? Balestrino was inhabited until 1953, earthquakes, landslides and instability caused people to flee. The town dates back to 11th century A.D. It is believed that the town was owned by the Benedictine abbey of San Pietro dei. I visited the town 2 years ago and the only structure remaining is the castle. For God’s sake please read and research before you post all this garbage on RUclips.
totally agree!
There is also mention of Battleship Island being 16 acres, which it is, and thus being comparable to the size of Manhattan--which is over 20 square miles..... WTF????
Well I just found if you want to learn anything from this channel you have to go to the comments, thanks guys. This channel is a corporate sht show.
I did the exact same research after he said "they put fence to keep something in" as if Italian authorities are hosting godzilla wtf
@@prposalx380 it has nothing to do with corporate. its just a bad channel
Some of them look like great historical ruins. They could be great sightseeing spots.
>15 largest abandoned cities!
>gets to second one on list
"Fortunately, there ARE people living in this city..."
And more importantly, absolutely NO mention of Mayan cities which are ALL abandoned, and are older and larger than most of these examples. They are still there, just look under the jungle!
What was the oldest city he mentioned? His subject seems to be cities abandoned in modern times.

You apparently don't know what "abandoned" means since you included cities with people still living there.
strippinheat u r so rude. You apparently have no manners.
Since when a town is a city ? Lol
Smart ass
@@ageorgiapeach9442 how exactly.
But he is so right.
Most of the cities feel like abandoned cities right now due to the corona virus!!!
I wish. XD
They out here bad
And to think the healthy aren't supposed to quarantine!
Blame democRats in the 🇺🇸 USA
Many small cities feel abandoned, but my town was still alive and people travelled through to get to other places.
Anyone here who’s watching this because of getting bored home due to Corona? And it’s an ghost town out there ....
I am
ghost town everywhere now
All of us obviously
I am
Yeah
For what I know, the 'old' Balestrino borgo ( little village ) was abandoned for continuous landslides and ground instability... The community moved down the valley in safer places, and yup, the area of the old Balestrino is closed to anyone, just for the hazard it poses to improvised tourists and explorers...so, no mistery behind it...
At a certain point, getting this many facts wrong could be construed as lying.
Lol, I agree. Good video, bad narration and shotty facts. Great Pete’s think alike. On a more serious note, check out this site for independent updates on the human condition. 153news.net
"16 acres, making it larger than the island of Manhattan"- that's not correct at all, Manhattan is 20,000 acres

Interesting choice of the word "city".....that one in Arizona had like 3 buildings in it...
Americans call everything a City. Three buildings wouldn't even rate as a Hamlet in the UK.

It's interesting how fast nature will reclaim abandoned places. In time it will be as if humans were never there.
Not before we get nature first! Ha!
Believe it or not I actually lived in Centralia, Pa in 1977!!!
Ghost towns are actually interesting.
Wow 😧
How old r u

Yeah, the amount of background music makes it really annoying to watch. Managed to get through the whole video, but not gonna watch any more due to how distracting the music is.
This should be retitled as, "feeling ghost town" hahaha
It's amazing how many and how BIG these ghost towns are...and these are LIVE...not like the movies!
Do you think this guy finished editing this video and thought how great it will be and all the likes that will pile up only to learn he failed. Seriously?!? Coral!?! Yep Coral is two syllables and he definitely says coral. Is there even suck a thing of coral mining
Great interesting informative video .thanks for uploading. I've liked and subscribed after seeing this one .great narration aswell 😊
Awesome videos....never disappointed!
a few tips:
1. don't mix two soundtracks
2. don't mix footage of two totally different cities while explaining only the first. This reduces trust in your facts and gives this channel a cheap tint.
3. don't ask for like and subscribe after the first entry. You'll get likes and subscribes when you deliver great content! We won't let you down!
4. try to make your videos 4k with consistent quality footage. It's 2020 after all. I know its hard and sometimes impossible but you'll get many likes and subscriptions! :)
Otherwise: great narration, nice music, good cutting, good soundeffects, good channel branding with the alien etc., great video content
Kudos!!
Great video this is very informative I love it
First isle, 16 acres, "Only slightly larger" than Manhattan Island. Manhattan Island =22,000+ acres
far from being the only mistake... every 3rd 'fact' is bs
it's basically the size of the (statue of) liberty island in ny city
I think my guy messed up on his research cause Manhattan is 13.4 MILES long im guessing he mixed miles with acres somehow.
Was gonna say, there's no way in hell Manhattan is only 3X larger than the plot my house is on...
Yep, was like WTF when I heard that...poor start...
Awsome video from stunning location my new friend ...
Probably only 2 of the whole list are actually ghost town. btw, Tianducheng is not a city, but a large community built by a real estate company where there are very few job opportunities.
Thanks for teaching us what this chanel can't.
What about Famagusta in Cyprus? Thats a big abandoned and forbidden ghost town that has been empty since 1974 and is heavily gaurded by the UN, turkish army and the cyprus army. 🤷🏼♀️
I appreciate your time and effort making the video. I found it very interesting..
That big city with all the abandoned tall buildings is hard to believe that it is real. So fascinating. This is so interesting! I had no idea that these cities existed. Do they??
so it is legal when a group of homeless people decide to live in one of those cities ?
The Turkish military will shoot you if you try to get into Cyprus. Not homeless anymore, just dead
Welcome 1 mill subs good video
Wow, This was interesting to learn.
The French town is a museum, not a ghost town! You got it right in the beginning but then said it was an ghost town. Like you said, they chose not to rebuild the town as a living monument to the horror of war! And the Japanese Island was repopulated as a prison island during WWII as a last resort to mine coal to support the need to power its ships. People were forced to work there and were so miserable that some dove to their death off the cliffs. That's how horrible it was. And the Indian location is a true representation of a ghost town as it's very haunted...by ghosts.
Can there not be a smartass in at least one of his videos
Michele Watson is this a common occurrence? I just watched it by chance. But if this is something that keeps happen, doesn’t that not speak well of the content?
Abandoned city.. all I can think about is potential for Airsoft gameplay 🤭😊

It’s abandoned we use real bullets

The good thing about ghost cities is that there is no traffic🤐
Balestrino - landslides and earthquakes made it unsafe to live in.
Abandoned in 1953 for hydrogeological instability, the old centre is a ghost town[4][5] whereas the modern center is still inhabited today.
wat I LIVE THERE
Well the island in the beginning with a COAL mining town/city not coral like the narrator mentions more than once, please get your facts right before you post... Just saying
The old village of Balestrino, now uninhabited and in ruins, also includes the Del Carretto castle. The village had serious stability problems, required by numerous landslides and by the landslide of the hill on which it resides. In 1962-1963 it was rebuilt slightly further downstream; from that moment the old village was abandoned and nowadays it is in an advanced state of ruin and has acquired the charm of a ghost town. [15]
In 2013, access to the old village was forbidden to the public through the habit of three heavy workers canceling a cause of the dangers of collapses and crime episodes that took place inside. [16]
In 2015 the restoration works of the village began.
Good homes for the street people of San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle.
One day I will make sure all these place are renewed and make it a place fo peace.
I liked it. I enjoyed it. And yep, I'm bored with the sheltering. Loved the comments, as always.
The abandoned hospital could be great for our COVID-19 problem
There is no covid problem u schmuck
I think you don’t know Manhattan is 14,000 acres this is only 16 😂
Worse it’s nearly 22,000 acres and acres don’t measure mass believe or not
Actually, weird, google and Wikipedia say different things. I think ones the borough and ones the island and the borough includes some of the water around the island
Units aside... Who looks at battleship island and thinks "This looks slightly bigger than Manhattan" ?!?
This is really cool! I have some ideas about these ghost cities.
Would you mind sharing some? I'm genuinely curious.

Very nice video

craco looks like it came straight out of a fantasy movie, it's so beautiful!
Hey you need to get your facts straight before posting a video. You said "that the island is around 16 acres in total mass making it only slightly larger than the island of Manhattan"... Manhattan is 14,478 acres, which is exponentially larger.
I had to listen to that twice... how could you be so wrong on a video lol
Exponential indeed: 3 orders of magnitude.
I had to listen twice to make sure I heard it right.
Yeah that killed me. How do you make a video like this without fact checking something so simple?
could be an error reading the comma as decimal... which is very common in Europe... I (as a Belgian) would read it as '14 comma 478 acres' which is slightly smaller than 16 :) ofc I know Manhattan is larger and (from my point of view) Americains are weird (no offense intended) and therefore notice it has to be '14 thousand 478 acres' :)
I don't know where he's from tho, but it's the only reason I can think of why he'd make such a mistake...
Meanwhie in Manila, Philippines, siksikan kami dito.. HAHA!!
Wow amazing! 😮😍
Solution for Ordos Kangbashi: Diplomatic city. Make it a place to wow outsiders.
8:19 This city was once temporarily inhabited by a multitude of a majorly masculine individuals, composed of a disproportionately low number of adults compared to a dominantly underage population, most of which were annoying kids who loved screaming obscenities through their headsets. Now it has once again been largely abandoned with the exception of some nostalgic adults that come to visit in remembrance of when this was a bustling city, filled with obscenity-yelling-kids.
1:29 "Coral Mines?" I really hate it when absolutely NO research is done, but yet purvey their lack of knowledge as if they actually had a clue! Hashima Island was a COAL MINE, not a CORAL MINE! Get your facts straight, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hashima_Island
Ok nerd
Wikipedia isn't a credible source, so for all we know, YOU could be wrong
@@zuulhax954 man...Coral isn't a ore, it's a form of life and lives under the ocean. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS *CORAL* *MINE* IN THIS WHOLE DAMNED WORLD
He also claimed manhattan was less then 16 acres in “volume”. Not quite sure what that means but the surface area is over 14,400 acres. It’s fairly obvious the research for the video was absent at best.
Bozo's Playhouse That should be obvious to everyone since I believe that coral is the remains of some sort of sea creature and only found in sea water. Or maybe they are living colonies of sea creatures. I am vague on all the biology of coral, but I know one doesn't dig it out of the ground and I've never heard of its use for fuel.

Centralia is about 2 hours from me.. I've been there so many times over the years now. Everything is so overgrown and torn down that there's not much to look at anymore. They closed down the 'graffiti highway' as well, which was the main reason a lot of people went.
I'm from Amarillo, TX and it looks like he inserted a clip of our Cadillac Ranch in the Centralia bit. Is there an art piece like that near the town or am I crazy? It seriously just looks like Cadillac Ranch (a line of old Cadillacs half buried as an interactive art piece in the middle of a farm off I-40, a major tourist spot out here) & all these comments make me think it honestly could be considering all the other things he got wrong 🧐

Balestrino is composed by the old historic town, upon a hill, and the new town below it. Abandoned in 1953 for hydrogeological instability, the old centre is a ghost town[4][5] whereas the modern center is still inhabited today.
This upsets me only because there are people that are homeless all over the world that could easily inhabit these cities.
