    I'm incredibly impressed and also very surprised at the same time, about how anybody at all could have that amount of control and consistency in doing what is seen here. It's amazing. I need to get practising.

    Great exercises for the usually weaker left hand. I like the way you incorporate some improv. into the practice, making it sound musical and interesting.

    I think I learnt some valuable knowledge just from what you did with the inversions and right hand octaves using 1 - 5 - 6 - 4 at 0:18. That would great for pop ballads. Enjoyed the rest of the video too :)

    Hi there, my fingers are small and I can barely stretch an to an octave, and am not able to press an octave key without hitting the neighbouring keys, what should I do?

      Goldfish Girl you are in an incredible disadvantage if you cannot reach an octave i suggest you tilt your hands upward to lessen the length needed to reach the octave

    i am new with this instrument . I know nothing about it . all I know is plug in the power and hit it with the finger and produces sounds. I am looking for the fingering practice and im doing easy stuffs only not the difficult ones . I hope I can play your techniques. Thank you

      RattleHeadMonty Hi Monty! Welcome to a fun and rewarding journey. I hope you can handle the exercise but it might be slightly too advanced for a complete beginner, so don't despair if you can't get it. There are plenty of other videos on youtube with all sorts of interesting exercises!

    • @t_kups8309

      RattleHeadMonty I picked this instrument up like a month ago having played it less than 10 times in my entire lifetime (played as in smashed random keys and produced sounds) and all I knew was the key layout and I guess I could kinda read sheet music very slowly. Now I can kinda play a bit and actually know what I'm doing sometimes and read sheet music a bit faster and I don't find this kind of exercises particularly challenging. Having played guitar some time ago may have helped a little, though. Soon you will kinda know what you're doing too :D

      ***** I hope so thank you very much. I need more motivational words haha because there is no one who says yes you can do it here . lol anyways ... im still with my fingering stuff and I know major and minor cords till now ...

      +RattleHeadMonty I wish you a lot of fun with guitar! I started out on guitar 50 years ago, then added trombone. I took to piano, clarinet and trumpet when I got old and had more time. I can assure you, piano and guitar are easy instruments. Trumpet is by far the most challenging one, as it's a mixture of music and sports.

    The tremolo from the pathetique sonata is what will build your octaves fast! It also sounds nice, very post-punkesque if you know what i mean.

    If I was to download all your videos, where should I begin? Your tutorials are very informative but I find myself alternating between basic and advanced...

    • @MangoldProject
      @MangoldProject  7 лет назад +1

      That's kind of the vibe of my channel. I target intermediate players who are stuck in the "middle hell" of having completed all of the easy basic stuff, but not having made it into advanced territory yet. As such, my videos don't have a linear ordering to them. I don't think I can give you any advice other than to just sample videos randomly. Maybe one day I'll sit down and try to see if there's some sense in viewing them in a particular order ...

    • @jamesrossmusic6013

I think there are many and better piano tutorials that kind and more informative to us the beginners. Just dont think you are the kind of teacher that we the beginners are looking for. I cancel my subscription.

    hi, may i know what is the technique at 2:15 called? the one which you alternate between tapping for example the C note one octave apart. like tapping those two notes really fast.thanks!

    • @MangoldProject
      @MangoldProject  10 лет назад

      Alternating between two notes (or two groups of notes) is called a tremolo. What I play at 2:15 is not exactly a tremolo because the two notes keep changing as I climb up the octaves. If this has a formal theoretical name I'm unfortunately not familiar with it.

      Hullo. Thanks a lot for the Left hand octave video. I have started practising it. My query is "I am using Left hand finger 5 on the lower octave note and Left hand finger 1 on the higher octave note. I do this for each note in the octave. When I need to press a black key (for major scales other than C major), should I use other fingers."? I ask this question because I tend to avoid fingers 5 & 1 for black keys".
      One more request. Can you pl. let me know other chords which are good for practising?

      Yeah, it really taxes you when you start out. It'll take some time before you can do fast octaves (the alternating octaves are particularly a killer). Just listen to Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata for what would a really trained hand/wrist can do: Barenboim on Beethoven "Pathetique" 1st movement (the fast part starts just after 1:50).
