    She is a very good teacher! As long as she goes as a SLOW pace this dummy can figure it ALL out! She NAMES EACH keynote or chords ,. This really helps... Counting is important also! 🙏♾️♾️🙏

    You demonstrate and explain the left hand exercises in an easy-to-understand manner. The overhead video when you're playing is a great help to viewers. Keep up the excellent videos!!

    I've been playing for 8 months so this was below my pay grade. But not really.
    I've noticed that when pianists talk about putting the music in their heads onto the piano, I don't have music in my head. I've been a robot making noise. When I do accomplish a task and can achieve two handed independence, I hear the music as an out of body experience. I have to really learn what it is to produce music, and incorporate music into my body. Pun intended.
    I think this is due to my lack of musical training as a child. At least I know on what areas I need to work.
    BTW that was a really great lesson. Incorporating stride left hand in such an easy fashion is genius. And a melodic left hand! Brava.

      Glad you enjoyed the video, Lawrence! Regarding getting to actually "hear" yourself playing the piano, that comes with time and practice. To hear yourself objectively like an audience would, video your playing. This is an eye-opening experience, because you'll often spot mistakes you never noticed before or you'll surprise yourself by sounding better than you thought you did!

    🎹🎶 I enjoyed learning about strengthening my left hand while playing the piano. I liked your term “interval training 2.0 and 3.0.” Like it’s a physical workout, but for your hand.

    Great lesson Emma. Do you have any tips or tricks for practicing chord inversions?? Thanks.

    • @pianowithemma
      @pianowithemma  Год назад

      Thank you so much, Bill! I’d suggest practicing chords in different ways to keep it interesting. Switch between solid, broken, and arpeggiated chords to keep things interesting and to strengthen your fingers. Try using them in a chord progression, using the inversion that’s the closest to the next chord. I hope that helps!

    Another great video Emma. You are so cheerful when teaching that it is an inspiration. Can you please recommend me a book on chord exercises I can buy on-line to download? Thank you

      Thank you, Viviana! That's lovely to hear. As far as practicing chords, I personally use the exercises in David Hicken's The Ultimate Piano Workout and Secrets to Better Composing and Improvising. As far as learning about inversions/chord progressions, I've taught myself the little that I know from online resources rather than using a book, so I'm afraid I can't give a good book recommendation. Hope this helps!

      @@pianowithemma Thank you for your reply Emma. I did buy three of David’s books and I do practice his exercises on the Ultimate Piano Workout but I ashamed to say I keep practicing pages 25 to 37 over and over. The same with Hanon, got stuck on exercises 1 and 4 and cannot seem to learn/play none of the others! Funny, isn’t it? Did not buy Secrets to Better Composing and Improvising as I thought it was only for advanced piano students wanting to become composers. By the way, in one of your tutorials you say that we should not compare ourselves with other piano students. Thank you so much for that advice. I have been comparing myself and it was really getting me down when I see that I am progressing at snail pace. Thank you again. TIme to dive into the exercises you mention in this tutorial.

    The piece you played at the end is Minuet in G by J.S. Bach. The exercises looks simple enough ... Maybe too simple for my level. My left hand does pretty well since my main instrument is guitar. I don't really have any problem playing root position triads in any key. I do like the way you demonstrated proper posture for playing. It looks to me like you're combining some basic theory in the lesson. Overall, this is a very beginner level lesson.

      Just as well that some of us are beginners and that this lesson was aimed at beginners and not patronisers. I, for one, am grateful that someone so accomplished takes time out to help beginners.
