    Heard rumors that one of the major companies is working on a small GPS position transmitter that fits onto the top of existing flagsticks. They also work on a universal software interface so that the position signal can be picked up by GPS watches, smartphone golf apps and GPS screens on electric trolleys to show the exact pin position on the green. That would be a fantastic feature!

    Good review... I own a G80 and for the value it’s a must... beside the radar features for practicing its worth it alone but as a gps device it’s perfect... gps accuracy is spot on comparing side by side with lasers... another great feature is previewing a course you’ve never played before.... I’ve played virtual rounds the day before going to a new course I’ve never played and it definitely helped the next day not going into a course blind... also cool to use the distance shot measuring as I actually played the round.... highly recommend this device...

Jonathan, I think out of all the reviews this one quite easily is the best in providing an honest review. I too have subscribed to your channel because of this and to learn as much as I can. Cheers. As having traded in my Swing Caddie and Sureshot GPS as I liked the idea of a device with course information and a launch monitor in one. I would have liked the manual to explain the basic radar principles not requiring the club that you are practicing with to be inputted into the G80 like required for the Swing Caddie. After watching Jonathans explanation and comparison I am now satisfied with my purchase and have compared it to the results I logged with my Swing Caddie and find they are in the ball park as I was able to calibrate my Swing Caddie with my favourite golf shops high tech launch monitor. Worth the investment.

    Nice review and that product looks great for the price. You didn't call out the main difference, the Garmin said "Purchase me and go home" the Track Man said "She Knows, 22k don't go home" also for a real fair comparison, you need to now go on the course "the Garmin said 80m to go to the hole and the Track Man said "what... I cant do that"

  • @ogxbox
    @ogxbox 3 года назад +1

    My guess is this is a pure calculation of distance based on ball speed and launch angle disregarding spin. That could explain the driver hit where there was a 20 meter difference. If you factor in backspin, that could balloon the shot as it runs out of steam causing it to land at a sharper angle and then the backspin will further slow it down on the ground. If the g80 can't measure spin (I don't think it can since it doesn't seem to report it in any way.) then it was set with a static spin assumption.

    I would love to see a reviewer hit into a large sandy bunker so the ball plugs on carry distance. Then have someone mark with a flagstick so you can laser scope in to confirm which is more accurate. Provided the scope was calibrated you would get exact numbers. I assume the manufacturers do this on test.

    • @renmay3171
      @renmay3171 4 года назад

      sowgelder i agree, was thinking that myself. Im sure its some kind of algorithm that comes up with the carry distance. Would love to see someone actually measure the exact carry distance and compare it to the trackman numbers.

    • @konstamattsson
      @konstamattsson 4 года назад +1

      @@billmalec You can set them up in the settings. I like that it shows clubhead speed on the industry standard unit, mph. When it comes to distance, most european countries use meters, so I prefer knowing the distance in meters, because all the courses near me are measured in meters

    • @konstamattsson
      @konstamattsson 4 года назад +1

      What flightscope product do you mean? There is the mevo, which shows pretty much the same smash as trackman. The main difference comes from the fact, that Trackman measures club speed from the center of mass of the clubhead. Some products like the GCQuad measure club speed from the toe of the club, which is moving faster than the middle part of the clubface (111 mph on GCQuad vs 107 mph on Trackman).

  • @JamesWilliams-ey5vi
    @JamesWilliams-ey5vi 5 лет назад +3

    I believe the major difference is the product is marketed for the US so the yards are probably going to be more accurate than meters. It consistently rated a 3 m difference on each swing six on one but for the most part a 3 m difference I’d love to see the video done with yards

    I noticed a big difference with range balls, with inferior distance compared to better balls. In the range, one needs a “range multiplier factor” to make up for the difference... Garmin needs to come up with a software update to provide to user a “range mode” to compensate for the slower ball speed for more accurate reading - or actually the reading is accurate but the practical conversion is not. In this particular range, the yardage is 80% of the real club flight. So fault is in the range balls, not in Garmin, but because of inferior golf balls, the practicality suffers a lot. Back to point below.

    It looks like the ball gradually gets further away from the G80, not sure what that does. The Trackman also uses a radar and it would not be a surprise if the two devices interfere with each other. Probable a better device to compare against would be an optical system. Still a very nice job of comparing devices.

    I carry a cheaper GPS ( Swami) and Arccos App GPS on my old I-phone 6 ( didn't work on my Android) and also a Laser RF device. They all do a separate function with a overlap GPS role with the Arccos and Swami. The problems I have with GPS devices is that some minor golf courses are not supported ( not on the data base) The Swami does not give a image of the course at all and the Arccos can be a Google Earth image in shadow ( hard to see). The Arccos has the ability to move a cursor to measure to trees or hazards like the G80, but it is a shot tracker/ performance recorder too.
    My point is that one device cannot be relied upon for all courses. You could use the LRF to determine the % error in the G80s distance calculation and add that mentally to each club distance. That said, I will purchase the G80 when/ if the Swami dies.

    • @pekkalaaksonen8384

      Linus Nykvist I agree. There is a big difference using range balls. Carry and other measurements are 20%-30% lower. The measurement is correct, but doesn’t reflect the truth with range balls compared to better golf balls. Therefore poor range balls ruining the device’s benefits.

    I have a number of other Garmin GPS devices. This one has the worst screen of any product from anybody, EVER! (A big shock that Garmin had this poor quality in their more expensive lineup.) All the other Garmin products have perfect colors. This one... Well, let's just say that the screen looks like it's broken. Thats how bad it is. (Truly bad.) It´s a joke! (My really old G6 looks like a brand new mobile phone with full HD in comparison to what this shit looks like with the product's best settings.)
    One thing is for sure - I will NEVER buy anything from Garmin again, sorry. (This was money down the drain.) Why did they decide to save money on the screen?! Do they want to get a bad reputation?! Every other product from them the last 20 years has had great screens but this?! Oh, my God!
    I would actually have preferred if this was black and white (that how bad the color is.) Naturally, I demand that it has the same bright color every other Garmin product has, but hey, if it was black and white I would have known what t expect. I considered taking a hammer and literally taking it out on this shit product. (I will NEVER use it and I going to hate to see it at home so why not?!) Smashing it to pieces and get rid of it sounds like a great plan right now.
    Thanks, a lot to all the "genius" who has made reviews here on youtube about the G80 without mentioning this - Really great job (not) But at least I can dislike and unsubscribe. + $500 I could have spent way better. So "grateful".
    Also a big thank you to Garmin... Never again! (Perhaps I make my own RUclips video where I smash all my Garmin products just to let out some steam...) That's actually a good plan. I Will get back to you all with the link. Time for some smashing!
