It's hard to describe what I mean, but he doesn't just shoehorn himself into the scenes. Every scene he does with Val stands out even more because of how he reacts to Doc.

@@johncook9392 Have to agree with you. The story of Tombstone has been made many times, but this is definitely one of the best. Also like Gunfight at the O.K Corral with Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas. Not as accurate, but still a good one.
Well for Hollywood standards it was good - Still doesn't accurately depict that Johnny Ringo wasn't killed by Doc Holliday although the film attempted to make it look like it.
@@Quint1975 but in reality, it's not accurately known whether Ringo killed himself or was shot by someone else. But the fact that he had threatened to kill himself on a few occasions, and the that the last person to have seen him alive said that he was very drunk, does seem to point at suicide. But I'm sure Doc, or Earp would have happily of done Ringo had they had the opportunity.
There will never be another, Val Kilmer landed the role that he was made for in Tombstone. The whole cast in this movie is great without a doubt, but Kilmer was the example of what an Oscar should mean. That's okay, just like the Emmy and Pulitzer Prize, these once shining monuments no longer hold the luster they once had. Kilmer's better than an Oscar.
The Academy should honor Val with a lifetime achievement award before he passes. Tombstone is the greatest western of all time and largely because of the Oscar quality performance of Kilmers portrayal of Doc Holiday!
I would say there are two greatest, this and Unforgiven, but they are two totally different types of movies so I would be perfectly fine accepting that either are the greatest. I'm old so I really like The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence also.
I deployed as an Armorer for SEAL Team 5 in Iraq. One of the platoons motto was “Say When”. T-shirts and hats made. One of the most badass quotes of all times.
If EVER there was a performance in a scene that deserved @ the very least an Academy Award nomination, it is Val's. I have watched thousands of movies over the years, and when he came out of the shadows, and said what he said, also how he said it, shocked me. Talk about being speechless. "That's just my game!" WOW.
And Wyatt's brothers didn't understand that. They didn't like him. Virgil even says it earlier. Wyatt: "I like Doc." Virgil: "Well, I don't." Wyatt: "He makes me laugh."
I also love the callback to this same conversation they have in their final duel. The tension the director and the actors keep throughout the movie makes it a classic and a masterpiece.
Seems very fitting that Ringo and Doc battle it out once and for all...the encounter at the bar in Latin ..then this scene....teasers to the max...all lead to you no daisy
Not only is this a fantastic and well made movie, the casting for this movie made it even more of a better movie, val Kilmer did an amazing job in this movie.
Pops and I bonded over this masterpiece of a film on my birthday. Lord all mighty, we loved this film from beginning, all the way to the end including the credits. What a movie this was, oh my!
Val Kilmer's standout performance is all the more amazing when you consider just how good everyone else was. All of the main cast members nailed their respective roles: Kurt Russell, Dana Delaney, Sam Elliott, Powers Boothe, Michael Biehn, Bill Paxton, and Stephan Lang...they all crushed it and despite that Kilmer's performance is still what we all notice first. Shows you just how good he actually was in this one!
I love that you mentioned Stephan Lang. Rarely is he brought up. I have continued to use his great line throughout my post-Tombstone life. "We don't go for no law dogs roun' here" Substitute current topic for "law dogs" to suit your situation. Oh. And now that I've gotten myself into a situation where I'm discussing Tombstone cast members. I didn't know Billy Bob Thornton was in the movie until I watched it about 20 times and finally recognized him. As usual, great job for Billy Bob. And since we're giving credit, yes, it's true that Val and Michael stand out in their performances, BUT, the cast gives credit to Kurt Russell for making the movie happen as it did. Without him, the production could have collapsed, and there never would have been a Tombstone.
I love how Doc has a gun behind his back and acts like he’s going to draw the holstered gun with his right hand. It kinda shows that Doc knows he’s sick and may not be at the top of his game, especially against Ringo, but he’s still willing to fight for his friends. It’s the intricacies like those all over this movie that make it one of the best ever made!!!!
@@MrShadowfax42 ok Doc is known for having two guns. He even mentioned this himself earlier in the movie. Next, bringing the gun horizontal instead of vertical is less accurate. Go to a private range and try it yourself
Damn fine performance! When he steps in for Wyatt later in the movie and Ringo, when Doc asks if he remembers saying “playing for blood” says, “I was just kidding” and Doc replies, “ I wasn’t” was another time he showed how down he was. Doc knew Wyatt couldn’t take Ringo so, friend that he was, stepped in for him. That’s a real friend.
Doc is an honourable man. He needs more justification to enter a fight on behalf of Wyatt than just friendship. Ringo has a point in announcing that it's not Doc's fight, however their previous unresolved dispute (play for blood) gives him that justification.

Facts
Oh I'm sorry Johnny, i forgot you were there. You may leave now 😂
Too many good lines in this movie.
I can't remember the exchange, but when Kurt Russell asks Billy Bob is he "gonna pull that smoke wagon or just stand there and bleed?" 😂
And all of them Kilmer's. Russell, Elliot and Paxton did fine with what they had and Delaney/Zane were kind of window dressing roles. But this movie was about Doc Holiday taking one last ride at dawn with his boys before succumbing to his afflictions.
Michael Biehn is awesome in this scene., as he was when he met Doc. The chemistry between him and Val Kilmer is off the charts in this movie.
i love the fact johnny ringo speaks latin too, very unexpected. i wonder if he did so irl.
@@fourshore502 both Doc and Johhny Ringo were educated men. Latin was popular at the time in Catholic Colleges. Ringo was a catholic college graduate in philosophy and logic.
adore them both
Curly Bill at 1:47 "Don't mind him. He's just drunk, that's all." Great line.
He's mimicking what Wyatt said to him when they first met and Doc was drunk and being antagonistic towards Ringo.
Sounded like dutch from red dead redemption
@@richardrubio9152thought the same thing. Get the feeling Dutch’s character is, in small part, inspired by Curly Bill.
@@davidgoebel3567RIP Powers Booth
Why was he on fire ....
I'm your huckleberry!!! One of the greatest lines.. It made Val a household name.. He definitely should have got a Oscar for this role.. Hands down... ✌️
An incredible true story made into a movie with a great cast of actors ⚡️
Shame they don’t make movies like this anymore 💭
I love when he's backing up wyatt in the street when he arrests curly bill. The dude says he's probably seeing double to which doc says "I've got two guns. One for each of ya" he then spins both pistols, one forward one backward simultaneously. Fucking awesome
He also held the cup he was drinking out of in his right hand...
" Whyyy ringoooo...you look like somebody just walked over yoooooo graaaaave "
"Allright doc...(Ringo Crazy eyes come out)..let's do it."
Poof dead ringo
And watch that scene again even closer, you'll notice Doc has one gun pointed at his head and the other at his heart
@@MoejiiOsmanTV ALRIGHT LUNGER... LET'S DO IT
I liked the "Maybe poker's just not your game. I know! Let's have a spelling contest!" Line😂
my dad literally watched this move 10,000 times, no joke. I know every word by heart because he played it so much.
Val Kilmer got ALL of the good lines in that movie and delivered them exquisitely with that accent. He stole the show.
He didn't get 'ALL' of the good lines.
“I’m your Huckleberry, that’s just my game.” Will forever be one of the coldest lines in cinema history. It’s a very classy way of saying “phuck around and find out.”
One has to remember the real Doc knew each day was borrowed towards the end , yet maintained a stoic reverence towards justice . This is truly one of Val Kilmer's finest performance .
Val Kilmer being snubbed for an Oscar nomination is one of the biggest miscarriages of justice in movie history.
That’s a trip ain’t it! Hell will smith still received one even after he slapping someone at the Oscar’s. 🤦♂️
agreed
he got to play batman in batman forever
Who was nominated?
@@ricogomez4020 nobody actually even though several performances were very good. Michael Biehn, Michael Rooker, Sam Elliott, and Powers Boothe were all outstanding.
"I'm your huckleberry." What a great line!
Classic.
Best line ever
Rumor has it, he says “huckle bearer”.
@@ericbehrens3791 Val Kilmer himself has said he said huckleberry, he even wrote a book titled Im your huckleberry
What does it mean?
"I'm your huckleberry." is one of the greatest lines in film history. No one could have delivered it like Val Kilmer.
He actually says “I’ll be your huckle bearer” if listen closely you can hear it. A huckle is the handle on a casket. Those that carry the casket are called “huckle bearers”.
@@moreno999 I'm pretty sure Val Kilmer said this wasnt true.
Obviously Val's work here was amazing, but I'd like to call attention to how Michael Biehn has an incredible knack for acting in a way that contours perfectly to his fellow cast member . It's hard to describe what I mean, but he doesn't just shoehorn himself into the scenes. Every scene he does with Val stands out even more because of how he reacts to Doc.
His best line from the rock… BOTH FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC SIR!!!!
Yep, the saloon scene and this one shows that the two actors had a rare chemistry that made such an exciting rivalry. What I like is how Doc understands Ringo. Almost as if they were cut from the same cloth to a degree.
They asked him how it was working with Val and Michael said: I never met Val, I just got to see Doc Holliday. I guess he went full method.
Yep! In 4 of my all time favorite movies... Aliens, Terminator, The Abyss, Tombstone and killed his part in everyone!
Edited to include that he played the perfect Johnny Ringo and was an under used actor imo
@@JaxNole61Navy Seals and The Rock. And Lords of Discipline.
Val Kilmer was great, but let’s be real, the entire cast was beyond superb. Johnny Ringo and Curley Bill’s actors were fantastic.
Powers Boothe also very good as bad guy. His face has certain sharpness.
Yeah man, They're both great in everything they do.
Michael Biehn and Powers Boothe, both excellent actors
@@svenjansen2134 He was the perfect Jim Jones
0:54 Doc just leisurely putting his hand on his pistol while his feet are up just speaks so much about his character in this moment.
Technically it's a revolver 😉
Val should have won an academy award for his performance...the best acting hands down as Doc Holliday!
A great movie. Top notch acting by top notch actors.
Simply one of the greatest movies of all time!
@@johncook9392 Have to agree with you. The story of Tombstone has been made many times, but this is definitely one of the best. Also like Gunfight at the O.K Corral with Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas. Not as accurate, but still a good one.
@@johncook9392 see the director's cut it will make you love this film even more
Well for Hollywood standards it was good - Still doesn't accurately depict that Johnny Ringo wasn't killed by Doc Holliday although the film attempted to make it look like it.
They should have a "I was robbed award." Your right, Kilmer is better then any Oscar.
Yes!! So true 💯
I couldn’t agree more. Those ,worth nothing trophies, meaningless. If they were,Kilmer would have won every one there was to be for his role.
Wholeheartedly agree with that!
@@JaxNole61 You forgot The Magnificent Seven. The original of course.
@rosegonella3098 yeah, that's another great one!
"That's just my game!" WOW.
what a tremendous cast, one of the best of all time
THEY DONT HAVE OUTDOOR BARBERS SILLY
My favorite lines in this whole movie have always been:
"Alright Lunger. Lets do it."
"Say when."
Damn this was a great movie. They don't make em like this anymore.
This is my favorite movie. Great actors and a great storyline.
Every actor in this movie absolutely nailed
the part they played especially Val kilmer as doc Holliday. Best cast in a western movie ever!!
We would all be lucky to have a friend like Doc Holiday
And Wyatt's brothers didn't understand that. They didn't like him. Virgil even says it earlier.
Wyatt: "I like Doc."
Virgil: "Well, I don't."
Wyatt: "He makes me laugh."
I’m your huckleberry
This movie is EPIC in all aspects.. I first watched as a kid with my dad and I've been watching every year ever since.
I, still to this day "You're no Daisy, you're no Daisy at all" all the time.
I don't say that but I say "Your a Daisy if you do" to my 9-year-old all the time. He gives a confused look each time.
"Poor Soul, you were just too high strung... I'm afraid the strain was more than he could bear."
I like how even the bad guys were like "no you don't want to fuck with him especially when you're drunk"
He was John Wick before John Wick - the Boogeyman's Boogeyman.
Everyone talks about Val Kilmer’s Oscar worthy performance in this movie and rightfully so but Michael Biehn’s performance was Oscar worthy as well.
I totally agree he should have got an Oscar I couldn't imagine anybody else as doc Holliday
"Barber, proceed, sir.".
Such a gentleman. 😆
Val, the epitome of cool was this character!!!
Johnnie is just to high strung. The stress was more than he could bare.
Not only is this a fantastic and well made movie, the casting for this movie made it even more of a better movie, val Kilmer did an amazing job in this movie.
Frail yet fearless. That's probably the best way to describe how Val portrayed Doc's character
This is one of my favorite all-time movies. I never get tired of watching it and doc is just badass.
You can the tension between the parties with a knife. It's so well acted, but the script was amazing as well.
That “Say when” man called his bluff 😂
One of Val’s best performances ever
There will never be another Ringo like Michael Biehn. He crushed it. “I want your blood.”
Crmetaries and prisons are full of guys like that, ive known a few, a black hole in them that cant be filled no matter how much they try
66th Academy Awards - "And the Oscar goes to not Val Kilmer"
Val Kilmer - "Dear oh dear, does this mean we can't be friends"
When you’re drunk in public like Ringo is, it’s always good to have a friend like Curly Bill around… Also the line “Barber…proceed sir”…brilliant!
Nah. The pistol behind his back was for the others. Like he said earlier in the movie “I’m in my prime.”
@@rawx1276 facts
I never understood this.. I takes me more time to get on target if the gun is behind my back than I I simply drew from the holster..
@@Korre84 It's so the gun is hidden.
@@MrShadowfax42 ok Doc is known for having two guns. He even mentioned this himself earlier in the movie. Next, bringing the gun horizontal instead of vertical is less accurate. Go to a private range and try it yourself
"Proceed, sir" - underrated line
Probably the best role Val has ever played & definitely worth some recognition
"That's JUST my game." Chilling
Agreed! One of his best lines in the whole movie!
Why Johnny Ringo you looked like somebody just walked on your grave.
A movie just full of amazing performances from legendary actors
This movie is a straight up masterpiece
This is one of my all time favorite movie scenes. It's perfect.........mostly thanks to the brilliance of Val Kilmer.
That "Say When" was just cold blooded and haunting as "I'm your huckleberry". Both great lines
It's Huckle bearer
@@jesuscaro3177 No, it's not. From somebody who has had this discussion many times. It is huckleberry.
@@MrShadowfax42 Correct. Huckle bearer isn't even a real term. Never even existed until the 2000's.
If you love westerns then you gotta love this all time classic. Excellent acting and excellent portrayals of characters. I love this movie.
Everyone in this movie was perfect, yet Michael Biehn and Val Kilmer were chefs kiss 🎀
That’s a real friend.
also he knows the TB gonna kill him soon anyway so hes a man with nothing to lose
Doc is an honourable man. He needs more justification to enter a fight on behalf of Wyatt than just friendship. Ringo has a point in announcing that it's not Doc's fight, however their previous unresolved dispute (play for blood) gives him that justification.
Val killer is an absolute brilliant actor
I love that while Doc was in the barber's chair he's already got his hand on one of his guns as soon as Ringo starts acting up
2:19 *Barbuh, proceed, sir!* 😆😆😆😆
Like a fvckin boss 😂
What can I say about this film that hasn't been said already? One of the greatest movies ever made with a cast like never before.
Man that cast was loaded with greats and future greats!
Kilmer brought his A game to this roll... he deserved the Oscar that year hands down
Val Kilmer was amazing in this movie, its was an awesome performance.
Val Kilmer’s line “say when” in this scene is LEGENDARY. I rewind that part over and over.
The masterpiece of Val Kilmer... Great!
The term huckleberry was commonly used in this time. It basically means “I’m the perfect man for the job.”
It’s actually slang back then for being a pallbearer for someone
See below
@@kirayoungblood Never heard that one but it was often used for a broad range of slang. However, I’m right actually 😂
