This is, without a doubt, one of Clint Eastwood’s best films of all time. His character is a kind of avenging angel whose Righteous acts serve as their own reward.
He is a guy who came back from the dead to get vengeance more or less like when he made High Plains Drifter just benevolent not just seeking vengeance but also protecting the innocent
Mine was always Josey Wales. I've probably seen it about 150 times, followed by Unforgiven and Gran Torino . And so many others too numerous to mention
Nope, you got it wrong! Everyone else was blasting away, Clint was VERY economical with his bullets...one per dude, and sometimes even allowing some to share the same bullet! Lol!
100% and a great gritty old grandpa with reckless disregard for being politically correct , i would like to see Dylan Mulvany take on his roll when he goes , another real mans man
For me a fav too especially as years earlier I remember watching Shane as a young child and was captivated by the story. Clint revitalised it with avengeance!
He truly is the best. From all of the western movies, and Dirty Harry. As well as all of the other movies he has been in or produced been a part of, he deserves two life time awards, but I don't think that he would accept them from this woke, Hollywood agenda. And for that I will respect and stand beside him. Well done Mr. Eastwood. Thanks for your work and memories. Hat's off to you sir.
I have found it a bit hard to click with some of Clint Eastwoods westerns but I'm going to have to give him credit for this 1. Its full of mystery and anticipation. Howver, above all, its all about right against wrong. Love it!
Which ones have you found hard to click with, he has a lot of westerns a lot better than this, not a dig just curious, and why is right v wrong such a draw for you? One of the great things about a movie like The good , the bad and the ugly as an example for me is that none of the three main characters have any redeeming features yet it's still a gripping film.
@romanutd Perhaps I didn't quite word it right. I'll try and put this another way. Now, I know nothing about acting, but I have seen many of Clint Eastwoods movies, and it seems that he is a very versatile actor. Pale Rider has an element of mystery about it. Its 1 of these movies where you draw to your own conclusions. For example, at some point in the past he has had a run in with Stockburn and his deputies. Now, we don't know what happened, and we weren't meant to know. All we are meant to know is that there has been a run in, and the priecher (Eastwood) and Stockburn and his deputies cross paths again, and he kills them to settle an old score. What that score is remains a mystery. Thats why I like this movie.
Storywise, this rips off every western from the last 40 years. But Eastwood makes it work! And the guy who played the hired gun was in Rio Bravo with John Wayne!
In Rio Bravo he played Nathan Burdette the rancher who's brother Joe committed a murder. He hired the gun hands who went up against the Duke,Dean Martin,Ricky Nelson and Walter Brennan
Pale Rider with many great lines. Well now, there's nothing like a nice piece of hickory... Well now, the Lord certainly does move in the most mysterious of ways.... Clint... THE LEGEND.
my dad took me to see this and firefox in the theatres as a kid. explained to me how bad ass clint eastwood was and I have to say he was right. been watching the man ever since those day and this is a great film.
Excluding for example the artillery style explosion sounds with the incoming whistle, this movie has one of the best western ambience sounds I have heard of.
WE LOVE YOU CLINT 🎉🎉❤❤ BEST WESTERN GUY EVER 👦!! Was a fan at 14 watching 👀 RAWHIDE! ❤❤❤❤ Your an inspiration, amazing man ❤ ,and the other movies 🎬, Okinawa, and with Richard Taylor 😀 ❤️, unlimited talent, GOD BLESS YOU ❤❤ Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺 ❤❤ 😂 😊
I watched this in the theatre multiple times when it came out. I was 14, had few friends, and I had rigged some of the back doors of the UA 6 theatre so they wouldn't lock, and they stayed that way for years.
As much as I love Clint and his movies it’s hilarious that a gang is gonna come in and start shooting at a non existent person in a room until their bullets are out. Movies have come a long way, for better and for worse.
A challenge to all of the present day movie makers out there....... I challenge you to make a movie of your choice of this caliber without any CGI, green screens or robots.
@@Shane661 So true! Chief George's lamentation of his people's plight culminating in the iconic line "The white man's been sneaking up on us ever since," and Jose's seaming cold indifference is one of the most compelling scenes in the Western genre.
Set designer: "Okay, we built this cool Old West mining operation. Fully functional! What happens to it?" "Well..." "WHAT HAPPENS TO IT?!" "You're not gonna like this..."
FYI. One of Stockburn's deputies. The REALLY Scary looking One! The late, Billy Drago (was also Frank Nitti in, "The Untouchables"). Was the father of Ed from "Northern Exposure" (the resemblance is uncanny). They both have Native American Heritage!
So same as High Plains Drifter then😄
It's Shane from 1950's. Almost the exact plot and dialog.
Outlaw Josie Wales
I thought the same thing.
up there with the best American directors! CLINT!!
I loved the two wise ones that clean walked out that coffee shop without a scratch.
"We're done. Buh bye."
@@bretthess6376via a latrine probably 😂
Dyin' ain't no way to make a livin'.
Preacher: I’m Thirsty!
Naw. They weren't walking! They were skedaddling 😅!
Good western movie. Clint Eastwood over 90 years old and still active. Don't mess with Clint Eastwood. Thanks for posting this.
He also has a sane head and did not endorse cackle face harris.
It’s impossible to rank Clint’s westerns!! Josey Wales, Unforgiven, Pale Rider, High Plains Drifter, Two Mules, and the list goes on.
Mine was always Josey Wales. I've probably seen it about 150 times, followed by Unforgiven and Gran Torino . And so many others too numerous to mention
@ Josey is my all time favourite too! And I’ve also seen it at least 150 times as well. Best western movie ever made in my opinion.
Easy for me to rank though.
Yep. Josie is the best.
High Plains Drifter #2
Unforgiven #3
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly definitely #1
Clint Eastwood, blasting away villains with his sixgun.. cant get any better than that..
Nope, you got it wrong! Everyone else was blasting away, Clint was VERY economical with his bullets...one per dude, and sometimes even allowing some to share the same bullet! Lol!
I saw this in our local theatre when I was 11. Went back to see it two more times.
That's me running out the back door. Preacher even gives the gang a little time to reload. Clint & Leone changed the genre.
@1:55 = Richard Kiel AND Christopher Penn - wow, I forgot they were in this! Time to re-watch it AGAIN!
💪😎👍
Both great actors in different roles. RIP bot Chris and Richard.
Clint Eastwood was always a cowboy, a homicide detective or a marine, and was great at playing all three of them.
Pretty handy with his fists too.
100% and a great gritty old grandpa with reckless disregard for being politically correct , i would like to see Dylan Mulvany take on his roll when he goes , another real mans man
Josey Wales was my fav but I saw Dirty Harry as a kid and I was hooked thanks Clint for all the great ones.❤️
Amazing scene…. Love what he’s wearing too!!
Clint is so cool!
Clint Eastwood is the best actor of all time.
Such range.
I would have to go with Mel Gibson a small notch above Eastwood.
Crackpot.
@petermg.ruhn deluded 😅😅😅
@gregorycarlson6632 pacino, de Niro Nicholson Hoffman Brando and olivier ?
My favorite movie by Clint Eastwood
This is indeed a classic movie. 😀
My favourite actor off all time the legend Clint Eastwood period
Unforgettable movie, not just a western!
actually, a ghost story
Preacher: Take That!
WHO ELSE NEEDS TEETH
....A pale horse and upon him was Death. One of my favorite Clint Eastwood movies.
For me a fav too especially as years earlier I remember watching Shane as a young child and was captivated by the story. Clint revitalised it with avengeance!
That scene in particular, where the girl is reading Revelations and Preacher appears is one of the greatest in the history of film, imo. Goosebumps.
In my opinion the BEST
The true king of westerns❤
Pale Rider is the best western of all time. Simply epic !!
Unforgiven is up there too.

Really? Moron.
Don't mind this idiot -probably still butt-sore from finding out America is done with woke culture.
I watched juror # 2 a couple of days back it was ok but not great. He's directed some great movies but the last few not so much imo.

It's 40 years old, every western from the last 40 years post dates it.
@claverhouse1 What I meant to say is, 40 years previously from this film.
John Russell. He also plays Bloody Bill Anderson in "Outlaw Josey Wales". I expect that Clint likes working with him.
In Rio Bravo he played Nathan Burdette the rancher who's brother Joe committed a murder. He hired the gun hands who went up against the Duke,Dean Martin,Ricky Nelson and Walter Brennan
A shameless rip off of "Shane." The plot is nearly identical.
Pale Rider with many great lines. Well now, there's nothing like a nice piece of hickory...
Well now, the Lord certainly does move in the most mysterious of ways....
Clint... THE LEGEND.
Great movie. I remember going to the movie theater with my dad (RIP) in 1985 to see this.
He's the best action actor of all time. I don't think that style can be replaced.
The look on Lahood's face and his word Jeeeesus, was the best. I guess they needed the Marshall after all.
One I need to watch again
Came here for the comments ❤... True movie icon clint is such a cowboy legend always serves that revenge dish cold 🥶
Clint the master and this is a beautiful place, to visit.
Why was Clint Eastwood always so good at being a cowboy hero?
Michael Moriarty was really good in this movie. Best since Bang the Drum Slowly.
This is one of my favorite movies without a doubt.
Those guys HATE those dishes!!
He hates the cans!
Preacher: No Good 😊
@@leepierson8617😅, thinking the same!

Before Unforgiven, this was perhaps the best Western.

I seen this awesome movie 🍿 so meny time beautiful Clint
High Plains Drifter and Pale Rider are basically the same movie but both great
My favorite 80s Clint film.
Bad ass Clint!! 🤨
Wow that's it gives the chills

Was a fun book to write. Had to be careful with the ending.
Love his horse.
Gotta luv the Appaloosa! ❤
In my time Clint is a rockstar. They don’t make ‘em like they did back then.
Eastwood, enough siad. (And texted). Best of of luck to you and everyone else.
And that, children, is why we teach the importance of defending against enfilading fire
Both Vance Norris & Doctor Copper from The Thing are in this.
Nothing like a nice piece of hickory.
Clint always had a great horse, or he was a great cowboy, or maybe a bit of both
Those 2 dudes after Clint says “You thru?” Run like jack rabbits out of there. I’d be running too. 😂😂

Are you crazy????😮
Como todo filme, sempre tem um pouco de golada, 😆.
The walk, man.
6:04 Is this the same set from Unforgiven? Both two of Clint's three finest works, only behind Jose Wales (in my humble opinion).
Josey Wales is my favorite, also. The acting chemistry between him and Chief Dan George was fantastic.

Pure badass.
I can't get enough of bowler guy doing the math and noping out at full speed.
The Outlaw Josey Wales is still his best western IMO
Stockburn needs glasses if he can't make out the preacher's face from there in broad daylight.
Lol
Where's Clints classic cigarillo for lighting the fuses on the dynamite ?😊
Geeeezusssussss... and that's Bloody Bill from Outlaw Josie Wales...
Just realized that the actors who played Norris and Copper from The Thing are both in this movie...
Am I right in saying that High plans driffer and Pale Rider were on a paranormal theme! I believe he was playing a spirit in these two movies 😮
As a Southampton fc fan I always liked the "red legs" wearing blue as the bad guys
Richard Kiel❤❤❤
FYI. One of Stockburn's deputies. The REALLY Scary looking One! The late, Billy Drago (was also Frank Nitti in, "The Untouchables").

Billy Drago usually played Villains.
I remember he was also in The Delta Force 2 with Chuck Norris.
@@okasathemasterninja5528 I seem to remember that in at least one movie from the '80s he was one of the good guys.
"It appears you won't have to bother with the preacher......"

The moral of the story is that when elders are involved it's nearly impossible to fight injustice!

I love the fact tha Billy Drago is one of stockburton's men, too bad though, he went up against preacher and lost shame.😞
"A ghost from the past". - Just like "High plains Drifter".
Thems pretty powerful sticks
Eastwood’s Mount Rushmore westerns:
1-Good bad and ugly
2-Unforgiven
3-High Plains Drifter
4-Fistful of Dollars
That Sydney Penny was a hell of an actress. I'm sure she got a lot of offers after this film but she was probably right to turn them down.
You are referring to Carrie Snodgress, the mother? Penny did not turn down roles AFAIK
Good the bad and ugly is best
I agree this scene of shooting at nothing is not a believable scenario. Enjoy the movie nonetheless
"I think you and Mr. Blankenship ought to take a stroll."
Mr. Eastwood has accomplished a lot and has been great for cinema. Zaslav should be ashamed of himself for cheapening the studio for tax write offs.
Pale Rider! He throw thunder stix..
It always amuses me that they can fire off every round and not realize that there is no one there until after they have emptied their guns.
That’s the muricans for ya 😂
