I've got one of these little machines and I LOVE it ! It's got a thumb and I split the thumb circuit with a 12 volt valve to run a small tilt clean-up bucket too.
I know a plumber that has a u-17 and have used it myself. It is a great excavator for residential use because it is small enough to get in tight spaces and easily to handle. He uses it all the time and has very few breakdown with the exception of hydraulic hoses but that is going to happen to all the equipment like that
Prices sure have shot up.I paid 35000,for my U-25 in 2017.Great machine.#1 attachment for any excavator, thumb. Can't do without it.Love the zero tail machines!
Excellent presentation! lookin like some comparisons should come next BX 25D Vs. U17 perhaps........I do believe those two are the dynamic duo of ultralight dirt equipment ! Having owned the Current BX 25D and a KX-41, KX-71 Very solid reliable machines!
I have a U25. I went to the dealership to order one of these but they had the used U25 I currently have. Very happy with it. Maybe I’ll downsize to the U17 when I’m ready for a new one.
The std is pin to pin ( no quick attach) but they have a quick attach option too. Personally, I would get a rhinox quick attach as then you could install the bucket 180 degrees (front hoe style) if you want to dig up under a foundation.
I have the Chinese version of this excavator. I believe it's sold in other countries as a Kubota even. It has a real Kubota 3 cyl diesel engine. There are operational differences, like no expanding tracks (it's an option), and the boom swing is a button on the left hand control. This one appears to have cushion valves mine doesn't have but I do want to buy a few of them I just need info on fittings and whatnot. All in all to have a similar machine though more rustic for a quarter the price is good by me who just uses it around my property.
What model of excavator or size you need to get all depends on the use for it. A have operated a u-17 was the right excavator for the particular use and have operated 325 Cat excavators also. You have to get the right equipment for the type of work you plan on doing whether it is full size or smaller and learn to work within the operating limits of each piece of equipment. Usually what make of equipment you get from my experience depends what dealership where you can get parts and service locally without traveling all over the state. That is what I look at when I buy the products I use
made the mistake of selling my Kubota 2018 u17 during covid quarantine. I had 65 hours on it and someone offered me $25K cash.... at the time it was a deal.....fast forward to now..... hindsight 20/20...........
I got one for 17K with 92 hours on it. This was 2017 or so. Some rich guys toy sitting next to 300K worth of Mercedes in his garage. One of my better deals but he also sold an SVL 75 for a damn song before I got there! Equipment prices have got so bad its not good for the industry.
@@5.43vthat's what I did. Equipment auction in south Georgia. Bought a u17, 1300 hours $11k. Plus fees. Needed some work but still way less than new and now I have 6 buckets and ready to dig. I'm about $17500 in it now. New tracks and all.
675 hrs on my 2020 no problems besides wore out my 1 ft bucket quick connect bucket ears has done hard digging and concrete demo but probably only has 300 hrs on that bucket cuz I have a 32 inch grading bucket I use prob half the time any one know of any good aftermarket brands bucket for this machine?
I have but one Qbota bucket, the other three are rhinox. Ripper tooth, 9" tooth bucket and 36" ditch bucket. The ears were worn on the factory 18" tooth bucket, I put some weld on the wear surfaces, ground them down and took about 90% of the play out. Cost $0. I also bought a 5' piece of 6" I beam. Grab it with either tooth bucket and thumb and can back fill and smooth like a boss. Right now I'm hoping Santa brings me a lipa flail mower for Christmas. The 60 model just came out, made for the two ton machines.

Very detailed review! It instantly found a place on my bucket list as no1!! Great job! Thank you from the bottom of my heart

@@steve123261 Thats a lot of cash,But if canadians need equipment they have to pay.
@@steve123261 just bought a 2020 U17 only 250 hours in NC for $25K. 🙂 Loving it so far.

What’s the model # on that hydraulic thumb?
Is that a kubota thumb or aftermarket?
Where can I find a thumb for it. My dealer says they don't make one for the u17
I bought and installed an OX thumb on my u17. It's heavy duty. And uses the same pivot point as the bucket ( important if you use the thumb a lot).
@firstname6208 who'd you buy it from?
I've had this machine for a year or so. Nice machine..I've got a jack hammer with it as well.
What kind of coupling is used with this bucket?

Where can I get a thumb for the u17?
I put a Felco in mine. Had to slightly modify it.. was a little short for picking up things close to the machine.
lots of places.. Amulet from Equipmentland can customize length for perfect fit. Gentec is good as well.
Several guys had the amulet and tore it up. I went with an OX thumb kit. It uses same pivot point as the bucket.

Thanks David, you will have a blast with this!
The kubota dealers in my area don't come recommended by many shops.
