Thank you so much! I have a DSC-P7 3.2 Mega Pixels. My problem was a little different in that I only had a diagonal line down the center. I removed my battery and held down the power button for 15 seconds and then replaced the battery. It still looked "kind of weird" but not the same. I bumped it on the ball of my hand and as you said, "There you go!" Just wanted to let you know IT WORKED!!

OH MY GOSH! I have a Sony Cybershot dsc-f828. We tried the factory reset button and nothing happened. Then I found your video and tried the reset your way and nothing happened again. Then after you dropped it and it worked, I decided to smack my hand on the right side of the camera. Well, that worked! Thank you so much. We couldn't believe this actually worked!

Have DSC-W730 camera. Picture taking mode fine. When slider is moved to panoramic or movie the screen jumps back and forth between panoramic and movie. No error codes listed on screen. Ever hear of this happening? Battery seems fine. Removed it and checked voltage.

The curtain shutter is maybe the issue but throwing the camera is not a smart way to fix it. The camera survives because is very lightweight. Doing that on a heavy DSLR camera would break into pieces.
I agree but it actually has been working for me sense April and I use it a lot. lol
