Sounds good but if I was u I would replace the pump before it goes in an emergency. This put that I removed was still working fine customers just wanted to be proactive.
How do you keep these things from failing? I am no plumber but my aunt hot this thing going into a smaller pipe with a 1.5 to 1.25 inch adapter. Isn't that putting strain on the pump? Also they didn't drill the hole at the part where they say to.
U only need to drill a vent in a zoeller m137 pump or bigger . The m57 and m98 pumps have a vent built into cast iron body of pump at side near bottom . U can see it spray water if u test and lift up float and pump all water from pit until empty then u will see hole with water spraying out . The larger pump bigger then m98 pumps dont have that vent and need vent drilled into discharge piping . Hope this clears up your question.
Zoeller still recommends the 3/16 hole drilled upward (so it sprays downward), below the check valve as they admit their built in weep hole easily gets plugged.
Is the 57 with cast iron base/impeller preferable to 53, pros/cons? Will be replacing my "M"53 with a "N" series with a separate/controllable height switch as with my high water table the automatic float makes little sense as I need to control when pump starts (alternatively might just zip tie the M53 switch on with separate float to get a little more mileage as pumps are only 4 yrs old) With The auto switch, I set pump as high as possible and it still cycled too often prematurely burning out my switch, which I understand are not the most reliable anyhow. I am not happy my "professional" installer didn't think of this and would encourage others to consider going with the N series over the M.

19 years that pump lasted ? Lol evidently that basement is pretty dry with no water table . Must have pumped very little water . I’m replacing M-98s every 2-4 years in Michigan.
Here in the Northeast we do not use check valves. The discharge line outside of the building could freeze, causing an ice blockage and lead to pump failure.
As JH mentioned, the discharge line needs to have a straight pitch down as it drains. If water is moving, it cannot freeze. I'm in northern Indiana and I have a check valve. My discharge line runs horizontal out of house ~1 foot and drops straight down, and cuts off about 1 inch into drain tile.
PHC , been there done that with this saw I had for 2 years plus. From time to time it gets stuck and I have to pry it free and WD 40 it and she alright for alittle , thanks for watching.
Good video. Thanks . When your were talking about using the 2” pipe as a sleeve you pointed to the sleeve and said something else... Was it that black standoff by the 2” inch sleeve? What is it called and what does it do? Thanks. Ron
I was talking about the 1 1/2 inch Greenfield hanger around the PVC discharge pipe at foundation wall. That was installed to keep the pipe from moving around . You usually see them in ceilings or in walls for hangers
@@jhhvacplumbing1944 Oh okay thanks for that info. I was watching a Zoeller video and they said the vent hole on the pump frequently clogs up and that you should drill a 3/16" hole on the pipe, level with the top of the pump as a back up. My M53 instruction manual says that too. When I removed my old M53 at the check valve, there was a huge amount of air pressure released so I thought I needed a vent.
Oh yeah for sure the battery life if great for the m12 series and I have multiple batterys from other drills. I don't keep track of how many cuts but it's Alot .
M57 and m98 pumps have a hole built into the bottom of the pumps and not needed . When u get into the larger pumps u need to drill weep hole in discharge pipe.
You would be surprised how much other junk is in people's pits , while house is being built the workers use it as a garbage . a little pvc shavings won't harm the pump .
ckent1975fm nope the m53 m57 and m98 pumps have a vent built into housing of the pump , the higher model numbers like m137 pumps u need to drill a hole .
JH HVAC & Plumbing Hmmm...I just installed the M98 20 mins ago and looked all around the base where the vent hole is located on the lower #models and couldn't find one. So I drilled one as seen on another youtube m98 install. Works like a charm. And thank you for your vid. Very helpful to this DIYer
Yeah versus the motor failing when a big storm hits and the basement floods. I'm just saying this in my opinion where I live we get hit every few years and I wouldn't risk the switch in the float failing or the motor. We see an average zoeller in r area last 5-8 years .
How many years should these pumps last?? Mines 15+ years old.. I'm thinking it might be time replace my sump pump 6 years ago with a heavy duty Zoeller pump and love how it works but there's a lot of slime because my sump pump doesn't go off a lot lot of stagnant water in there and I want to clean that what do you suggest
RikWCrlsn all depends on water table, amount of rain fall and so on . In my area we usually see them last 8-10 years but we get alot of heavy rain and high water tables. I would still replace it 8-10 years as a preventable maintenance. Thanks for watching and comments .
liberty draws less amps not as good as the zoeller but will work if you have a battery back up converta station zoeller will draw to many amps for battery pack
+justin henning thanks for responding. I had a liberty 257 and the float was sticking and my water backup system saved me twice. I put in the m53 last night and drilled the hill this morning a few inches up. It is weird to see some water spraying out when it works (which I assume is normal) but it seems to be working well.
Nice job! That old pump was a champ.
Rasta they usually don't last 19 years but this one was on juice and r good pumps , thanks dude .
Nice install! Mine is still going strong after 16 years.
Sounds good but if I was u I would replace the pump before it goes in an emergency. This put that I removed was still working fine customers just wanted to be proactive.
Video was worth the money watching just to know to how to properly take off the check value!
Thanks for watching
Do they sell prefabricated pvc pipes that fit into the threads in the pump so you can avoid the cement step?
How do you keep these things from failing? I am no plumber but my aunt hot this thing going into a smaller pipe with a 1.5 to 1.25 inch adapter. Isn't that putting strain on the pump?

Great work. Love the zoeller pumps.
Rob I would not install any other pump inside my own home than Zoeller . Very heavy duty and stand the time .
@Huffer 101 got me and issue corrected lol
I didn’t see you drill a vent in the pipe close to the pump to let the air out. Just installed one and I wrestled with putting one in. I finally did

zoller pumps r great , thanks for watching

ben that's why the discharge line out side is pitch down so there is no chance for water to sit in the piping outside .
You are installing the Check valve in the wrong place in the line.
As JH mentioned, the discharge line needs to have a straight pitch down as it drains. If water is moving, it cannot freeze. I'm in northern Indiana and I have a check valve. My discharge line runs horizontal out of house ~1 foot and drops straight down, and cuts off about 1 inch into drain tile.
not a good idea to cut the pipe over the pit as now the shavings could get sucked up into the pump and you have a problem?
thats a good mini sawzall. i have a few. make sure the chuck doesnt get water in it or they seize up.
PHC , been there done that with this saw I had for 2 years plus. From time to time it gets stuck and I have to pry it free and WD 40 it and she alright for alittle , thanks for watching.

Fantastic job Justin !! Say hello to bob for me !!!lol
Harry I will say HI to Bob for u but that was Bob #3 . Another new guy I'm training lol.
No vent hole drilling needed?
Nope vent is built into m57 1/3 hp and m98 1/2 hp pumps. When u get into the m137 high volume pumps then its needed

Nice install for a quality pump
Nic thanks for your your support!
Nice Work Justin. I like that Sawzall. Hows the battery life? Make several cuts on PVC pipe before a charge?
Oh yeah for sure the battery life if great for the m12 series and I have multiple batterys from other drills. I don't keep track of how many cuts but it's Alot .
finally, your helper caught on.....
Nice job. Thank you.
do you need to drill a weep hole?

You should not have allowed the PVC cuttings to enter the sump well, good chance you can clog up the pump I think ???

How do you test a Ziegler 507 Battery Backup Sump Pump?
Great video. Thanks for posting!
efman thanks for watching!
My plumber didn't have the trick you showed and the water was all over the place:(
Sorry to hear that , we all learn from our mistakes.... the only problem is people tend to forget there mistakes lol
My problem is removing the lid. I cannot seem to move it at all.
I guess call at family or friend or Pro
You said you double sleeved the discharge pipe? That isn't a standard practice when I live. What is the purpose of double sleeving?
Mike we run a 2 inch sleeve with the 1 1/2 discharge pipe inside if the discharge is piped under ground
JH HVAC & Plumbing nice too cuz if you ever have to run a new discharge line you just pull the old out and feed the new pipe through the sleeve
Mike exactly, thanks for watching

JH HVAC & Plumbing vent hole in the pipe is advised clearly in the manual this model and most others because the pump vent hole can get clogged
My M98 crapped out after 6 years. Capacitor failed - ordered new one from China, working again.
Electone_Guy why not just replace the pump ?
$6.00 versus close to $300 for a new M98.
Yeah versus the motor failing when a big storm hits and the basement floods. I'm just saying this in my opinion where I live we get hit every few years and I wouldn't risk the switch in the float failing or the motor. We see an average zoeller in r area last 5-8 years .
I've got two backup pumps (one on 12 volt supply).
Nice man do u receive alot of flooding where u live ?
Hello ... great video ... is good enough a 1/3 HP for a residential home? when is it recommended to install a 1/2 HP sump pump?
Arturo Monroy I install both but if the pit is deep enough and they r in a high water table I'll install m98 1/2 hp pump.
What no 12v back up pump ??
What do u mean?
Should add a battery back up system
How many years should these pumps last??

me too. this one and the liberty pumps
The only pump I will install , they have proven there worth

do you drill a vent hole
only on recommended models but the m98 and m57 it's not needed
