Metal Mario sucks because his metal weight affects his jumping, gliding, and landing skills. Giant DK, on the other hand, is large enough to reach heights and break all ten targets in each of the other 12 original playable characters’ stages in target mode. Congratulations, Giant DK!! 👍
I just discovered your channel yesterday from the previous break the targets video. I really enjoyed both of them, and I look forward to catching up on your older ones! :)
When you were looking at Metal Mario's hitboxes, it looked like his Down Smash reached further behind him than in front. Could you hit the DK target if you were facing the wrong way and down smashed?
I made a video trying to beat all the Break The Targets stages with Metal Mario in 2018, and let me say it's very cathartic to see someone do a lot better at it than me in Middle School. This was always one of my favorite games to mess around with cheat codes.
I would like to but because there is 25/26 character's in melee there would be 624 target tests to complete and that would take way to long maybe in the future I could do that series and split it up into multiple parts.
The hitboxes for Giant DK and Metal Mario were likely intentional. Makes kids feel like they overcame a challenge without being too difficult for them that they quit.
I love the transition you made when showing your failed attempts with some of the characters then immediately switch to the videos of other youtubers successfully pulling it out, like "Step aside twerp, I'll show you how it's done".
You forgot about the Mario Tornado (Down+B) in Yoshi's and Jigglypuff's levels to cross the gap. As for Falcon's level, what about going over the top of the level from the right side and dropping down on the left? There would still be that one target on the right remaining however.
I have tested metal mario's down B. while in theory it should get him extra height. The programmers either didn't give him the ability for his down B to go upwards by spamming the button or his weight is so much it cancels it out and in theory only makes him fail slightly slower. but in any testing i did even using a third party program to spam the button beyond human limitations. no positive result came out.
@@jazzabighits4473 Interesting thought. but no im afraid it doesn't, even re-testing it to make sure i have seen that metal mario's down B in the air reduces his speed toward wherever he is going. it seems that when doing the down B metal mario will always lock into a set speed for that move regardless of how slow or fast he was moving prior to activation. also. after metal mario finishes his down B he will cease movement completely starting from speed 0. and it then takes a momment before he can move again. so in evrey situation metal mario's down B will get him less far. even if you do think in theory you could get up a platform in height by getting a tiny bit of extra height from his down B from the start it wouldn't work. the weight of metal mario will always prevent his down B from gaining any height. not even a singlular pixel. it will only slow down his fall as it does. the only situation i see metal mario's down B ever being usefull were it in the game. is jumping from a higher platform to reach a platform below that you could reach with distance but barely not the height and you do use the down b to barely make it due to slower falling. keep in mind this down B would have to do it on its own. due to the restricions described earlier. i doubt even in future smash games such a situaion could be found for metal mario would he work the same as in this smash.
I spent 30 mins into the video until I realized those banging sounds were Metal Mario’s footsteps, dang boi sounds like my father trying to break my door down when he realized I’m living with him
Funny to see that Yoshi was a stealth completionist the whole time. *After the 1st Video:* "Huh, surprised everyone could do DK's, Yoshi's, Fox's and Captain Falcon's stage." *Metal Mario:* "Yeah...about that..."
It seems like a Mushroom gives a jump and speed buff alongside bigger hitboxes, but a Metal Box grants low air speed, faster falling speed, and smaller hitboxes. Oh. Also is it just me, or did he just call Samus a he?
2 good things came from this vid donkey kong was finally decent and able to do aomething and he confirmed board the platforms will one day come...bad thing we found the one character who couldn't beat dks. Of all characters
I personally always wondered how effective metal mario would be in competitive smash 64. While it may seem like metal mario is heavier than mario, its really just his fall speed thats been changed, with a in game handicap option being the real star of his story mode battle. Besides the strange wall interaction as shown in this video, and faster fall speed, hes virtually a carbon copy. But would the faster fall speed help him with shffl aerial combos, or just make unviable due to a majority of the cast having great combo potential and gimping options?
Master Hand can't break the targets but he CAN break the game. So close enough. Also, it'd be cool if you differentiated which ones were completed TAS only with a blue square. Which looks to be Yoshi on Mario's stage and Jigglypuff on Ness's stage.
It's interesting that Metal Mario's hitboxes are different from Mario's. If I had to guess, at some point late in development, they modified Mario's hitboxes for balancing purposes but just never bothered to change Metal Mario since he's not playable anyway.
Metal Mario on captain falcon's. If you can get on the top of the level to get to the other side for those 2 unreachable targets, you might be able to jump to the platform moving up and down and get back to the other easy to reach 8 coming from the other side. Sorry if this isn't easily understood, just couldn't think of another way to phrase the route.
One thing that occurs to me that you haven't tried is DK's down B. The shockwaves I think go under him a bit as well as to the sides -- evidence of this is if you stand on the saffron helipad while DK is pounding on the adjacent tower -- you WILL get hit. And so on Mario's stage, that one target in the corner on the bottom left you might be able to get with a shockwave rather than up B twirl.
Afraid it doesn't work. dk's down B seems to have much lower range in break the targets. despite trying your theory from all angles possible. but on the paltform and on the left from the starting position in mario's stage it wouldn't break. this made me test if dk's down could hit targets at all. and it can. but only if it hits directly or seemingly when you are very slgihtly away from the target. though this might just be the hitbox being bigger than it looks.
From what I can tell, it looks like Metal Mario has a wider collision margin, making it so he can’t get as close to the wall as Mario can. Mario can basically bury his nose into walls, while Metal Mario can’t even touch them. Weird.
I wonder why Metal Mario's hitboxes are different from regular Mario's. I have two theories: 1) His hitboxes were made less generous because he's a boss fight, to make things less frustratingly hard on the player (alongside his generally non-aggressive AI) 2) He's simply copied from an earlier build of the playable Mario and as he's a copy rather than the base character with a modifier, he wasn't updated with the improvements to the playable version by the time that was finalized.
With Metal mario on Falcon's stage, wouldn't it have been possible to only go -1 as opposed to -2 by going over the top and just ignoring the caged target?
Yah that's a good idea. that stage has been done now check out this video Metal Mario on Captain Falcon is possible ruclips.net/video/kc5Xrcdvej8/видео.html (km9103)
Oh dude I don’t remember if this was a feature in 64 (or if it even applies to metal Mario) but doing a backflip for your first jump is actually higher than a normal jump.
Great video, but, please, use down B more. You didn't use it with regular Donkey Kong when you were above a target, you didn't use it with Metal Mario to try to extend you're second jump before trying the third. Use down B please, it exists haha

Metal Mario seems to have a larger collision box, making it so he cant press as close to the wall. However, you should try using his up special on targets behind walls; super jump punch has a really disjointed hitbox.
Were you using Master Hand correctly? Remember his taunts are actually tied to all his moves. That debug-like unique movepool for master hand as they have more than the 8 moves and their directional versions, they had to put the moves in styles like Neutral B + Down Taunt. They carried that over into Melee, and thats when we first could use the moves with a glitch.
I would like to but because there is 25/26 character's in melee there would be 624 target tests to complete and that would take way to long maybe in the future I could do that series and split it up into multiple parts.
I think a hack or something that balanced the unplayable characters a bit and made them playable could be fun. Not sure about Master Hand or Polygon Team, though. MH obviously has its own issues and Polygons need a way to stand out. Maybe some way to switch between them instead of the regular character's B-moves?
look how metal mario has bigger hitbox on the back of the down smash, i think you coul complete DK stage if you make a Down smash on that target while facing the oher way
Is it bad I thought the Jigglypuff angled punch (for lack of a better word) in the air moving up or down was something I thought was a neat oversight but never really used?
Like not only are these runs inefficient, you keep missing things because you refuse to Up airs, down tilts, down smashes and other moves outside of fair, nair, up b and occasionally bair. I'm not sure if it's incompetence or artificially extending the videos length
How about explain rather than throwing a childish tantrum while accusing him of wasting time. You know it took a long time to figure some of them out as well as to execute it. Join in the fun and try them yourself.
@@Moowe291 people did explain in his last video, iirc, but he talks about having mained kirby and all I can get out of this video is that it's his first smash game. Additionally he shows the full process of 'figuring out' the levels. This is on the same level as one of those Smash 4 "who can do x in my custom stages" videos. There's so little research needed to do the videos and he didn't even do that.
Every time I see DK's dash attack it hurts.
I always thought those sounds that Metal Mario's footsteps make were part of the background music.

Would the disjointed hitbox of Metal Mario's up-B be able to hit the target in the box from beneath it on DK's stage?
he tried
18:10 you can use the down b, if you mash the b button while using it, mario will gain a little bit of extra height
From what I can tell, it looks like Metal Mario has a wider collision margin, making it so he can’t get as close to the wall as Mario can. Mario can basically bury his nose into walls, while Metal Mario can’t even touch them. Weird.
Ahh break the targets , Board the Platforms and Race to the Finish
Something what Ultimate Lacks
Yes hopefully that comes to ultimate
@@Snooplax and we need to have a better story mode than World of Light and Events mode like in Brawl and finally Crash and M.Bison as DLC
Snooplax, I hate to ask here but is it okay to see Dr. Mario, Young Link, Falco and Ganon on Break the Targets?
I wonder why Metal Mario's hitboxes are different from regular Mario's. I have two theories:
1) His hitboxes were made less generous because he's a boss fight, to make things less frustratingly hard on the player (alongside his generally non-aggressive AI)
2) He's simply copied from an earlier build of the playable Mario and as he's a copy rather than the base character with a modifier, he wasn't updated with the improvements to the playable version by the time that was finalized.
Giant DK es el campeón.
Metal Mario terminó como perdedor por tener muchos peso.
Me alegra que corrijas los errores.
Metal mario little and a non air fighter ...wowzers
For the Yoshi Stage for Metal Mario you could have just gotten on that moving Platform on the bottom and use that as an extra jump height
with metal mario, i'm pretty sure you can optimize to only missing one target if you can get up on the ceiling above the course
you are right this one is actually completely doable

Great work and nice to show off the vids
Nintendo should have kept the metal sound effect in the newest game. It’s iconic
This was a really interesting video!
Thanks!
Hmm... What if we did TAS on this 🤔
Me and a friend are on it. Don't expect it anytime soon but we'll try to TAS all the doable stages at least for the original 12 on every BTT stages
@@km9103 ... Erm ... Okie dokie
I really like these videos and I'm glad you've taken the time to make them :^) Keep up the good work
Thanks!
With Metal mario on Falcon's stage, wouldn't it have been possible to only go -1 as opposed to -2 by going over the top and just ignoring the caged target?
Yah that's a good idea. that stage has been done now check out this video

lol but playing as Master Hand is OP
1:28 one day messing around trying to unlock ness, in the fighting polygon team stage, i Saw a "poligon Mario" shooting a fireball
description says "charters" instead of characters lol
You use dash attack with dk far too much, is almost physically painful
Oh dude I don’t remember if this was a feature in 64 (or if it even applies to metal Mario) but doing a backflip for your first jump is actually higher than a normal jump.
New speedrun challenge for SSB64: All 138(+) viable BTT scenarios
Great video, but, please, use down B more. You didn't use it with regular Donkey Kong when you were above a target, you didn't use it with Metal Mario to try to extend you're second jump before trying the third. Use down B please, it exists haha
Since you did this here, I'm hoping for Giga Bowser and Wire Frame Fighters in Melee.
Updated Tier List
S Tier - Mario Link Yoshi Kirby Fox Ness Luigi Giant DK
A Tier - Samus Pikachu
B Tier - Jigglypuff
C Tier - Nope
D Tier - Captain Falcon
E Tier - Donkey Kong
F Tier - Metal Mario
G Tier: Fighting Polygon Team
Nice tier list
Watching Metal Mario gives me anxiety
Im disappointed that Giant DK's icon on your chart was DK with a mushroom, instead of the DK portrait zoomed in too much
LOL that is what I initially had but it stood out way to much and made the graph look messy so I changed it to a mushroom instead
One must imagine Metal Mario being happy
Metal Mario seems to have a larger collision box, making it so he cant press as close to the wall. However, you should try using his up special on targets behind walls; super jump punch has a really disjointed hitbox.
Were you using Master Hand correctly? Remember his taunts are actually tied to all his moves. That debug-like unique movepool for master hand as they have more than the 8 moves and their directional versions, they had to put the moves in styles like Neutral B + Down Taunt. They carried that over into Melee, and thats when we first could use the moves with a glitch.
꧁༺Drakath Fenrier༻꧂ I wonder if that kind of programming is what led to Luigi having a damaging taunt.
pokepress simple: same thing as master hands attacks. Just mapped moves to it.
Love the video. Is it possible to do a Melee version of this too?
I would like to but because there is 25/26 character's in melee there would be 624 target tests to complete and that would take way to long maybe in the future I could do that series and split it up into multiple parts.
I think a hack or something that balanced the unplayable characters a bit and made them playable could be fun. Not sure about Master Hand or Polygon Team, though. MH obviously has its own issues and Polygons need a way to stand out. Maybe some way to switch between them instead of the regular character's B-moves?
look how metal mario has bigger hitbox on the back of the down smash, i think you coul complete DK stage if you make a Down smash on that target while facing the oher way
was confused, thought I had seen this before
Hmm sorry about the various comments on your last BTT video; didn't realize there was an update in this one ^^;
Metal mario DK is possible. Remember when you hit the target inside of the barrier? Just do down smash in a certain angle.
Is it bad I thought the Jigglypuff angled punch (for lack of a better word) in the air moving up or down was something I thought was a neat oversight but never really used?
can you use Mario's extended up b glitch for yoshi's stage?
OMGGGGG YOU HAVE MORE MOVES THAN JUST NAIR AND UPB YOU KNOW
Like not only are these runs inefficient, you keep missing things because you refuse to Up airs, down tilts, down smashes and other moves outside of fair, nair, up b and occasionally bair.
@@NoelJoyeux8 Who cares? Get over the fact that everyone isn't an expert at playing a game, the video was clearly made for fun.
