If you never did another carpentry video again, that would be fine with me. You have taught me everything I know about drywall, and I (laughably) considered myself a professional before i found your channel. You have not only made my work immensely easier, but allowed me the knowledge and confidence to provide a product I know I can stand by and guarantee. Thanks for everything Ben.
"Lurking on drywall forums" ... you party animal. Lol great video
Hey, I'm a painter and I had to do some patches where the paint peeled the mud and previous paint off today on a ceiling that was unsealed. Because of your videos, my patches were imperceptible and definately good enough for a level 4. I went to look at them this morning with the sunrise shining across them and boy were they smooth! I just wanted to say thanks You've earned yourself a subscriber!
Could have used this video a couple of hours ago. Doing my first bathroom and tapping took me half the day. Small bathroom 5x9. You make sheet rock look so easy. Haha
You are so right about using it to not only tape with, but I've also used it to mud my angles and my corner flusher, never had had a problem. Thanks for all your videos, been finishing drywall now for 40 years.
I've been using a corner roller for years- the the larger wooster with lambswool gets more mud on, absolutely love it! But you've got me getting the compound tube now 😂
The best part is that these rollers apply a narrow enough bead of mud that it works great with a corner trowel, which will of course seat the tape properly so you don't have to poke it in with the knife. :)
Thanks Mike, I was just about to ask about the corner trowel.. 🙂
As a DIY person who has done quite a bit of drywall, but usually with years between each time, I've just started using the lambswool roller for corners on my current project. It's great! I've always had hard times with bubbles/blisters in the past, but now I've pretty much gotten rid of them.
I combo the lambswool roller with a Level 5 inside corner roller (my only bit of "professional" equipment), and then a tool called an Advance (name brand) Inside 90° Hand Corner Flusher. It's a manual, hand held corner flusher. It's not one of those corner trowels. It's a flusher, but it's only like $40. It works great. Obviously not as good as the 'real' deals, but it's really, really good and super easy to use. Gets that nice glaze over the tape.
The final piece of my DIY cheapo kit is a TapeBuddy (amazon), which is like a really cheap super-taper type thing.
Anyways, my taping is vastly improved from what I used to do with all of that stuff. And for a really, really small investment. $200 CDN... maybe not even that.
Right on time :-) Thank you for that. I will be doing about nearly 600 sqm of sheetrock in couple of weeks and till now I have been thinking about corners - coincidence? I don't think so :-)
You're awesome keep up the great videos!
Thanks I just ordered two, one for painting and one for mudding 😊
You can also use a paint brush maybe one and half inch, sounds crazy but works same as roller if you cant get a roller .good video from fellow taper in Ireland .
Season veteran in carpentry in all things construction you’re teaching me be a better person and bars
Im a crafter! So watching your videos help so much!!!! Thank you.
Cool... The older you get, the more Canadian you sound eh. Awesome videos. Thanks!
That is cool ,I like the idea of it for a small job !
Those corners look crisp and clean!
I've never done that but I'll add it to my list of things to try. Thanks for sharing.
Best affordable purchase I've ever made. I use a wooden handle for high top corners, less climbing up and down.
Use an adjustable extension pole for vaulted long corners like that, less ladder work is always better!
1:40 that's what good macaroni sounds like
Saturated
How about trying the applicator with an extension pole. Would that actually work faster on the application of mud on high overhead corners?
Good thought, still gotta get the tape up there tho
@@quinnycoleman7214 Would only be one trip up ladder for tape instead of 2. All adds up
im a 2yr union stonemason from and anytime i do anything around my house i always watch ur videos first.
In the last year I started using a cheap stiff paint brush for applying the mud when I'm taping. I thin down the mud like Ben has it in the video and paint it on. Once I put the tape on I first brush the tape in place with my mud soaked paint brush. What that does is prevent the tape from absorbing too much moisture from the initial coat of mud. What it also does is reduce the friction on the tape so that when I follow it up with the putty knife I don't accidentally pull the tape out of position. The knife glides on the tape effortlessly. This method works great. I get perfect results every time now. Cheers!
You’re screws are immaculate!! 😍
Hi Ben. Thank you for sharing mate. 🦘🇦🇺
Thank you very much for that tip. I enjoy watching your videos . I use a lot of your tips in my drywall work I do in remodeling. I bend at this business for 40 yrs. I'm always learn new ways of tips of the trade. Thank you again passing on tips.
I've used the roller and flusher together many times.
I watched this and made the big buy, that little 13 dollar roller from Rona is unbelievable, I feel an uncontrollable urge to order italian tonight, thank you sir for the video and tip.
Been using these rollers since the 80's,in those days they were made from aluminium 45 degrees they worked well...The one you are using, the trick is to premoisten with water before using,it helps the mud stick better.
Because of your videos and the help you provide I was able to tackle a pretty big job in my home. Mudding is one of the most intimidating jobs I've done but after your first few passes you pick up some techniques and it's actually not that hard.
Moore is the man! I was also on DrywallTalk. Went by Fr8train. I worked with P.A.Rocker
Tip #1
Stick that on a pole
Tip #2
Use it s as a roller
I learned from some guys thats been finishing for 45 plus years and this is how we do EVERY HOUSE we do all custom homes here in Burlington NC and we never have any issues
Today I learned that I should be applying tape into the corners, and not just filling the corners with mud.
... I’ll never let anyone see my basement.
🤣
It's just prefill man lol
Lol ! Ive seen it b4 so you're not alone.
Very smart....way to go!
Used that a lot in florida when I was finishing down there with my dad works great
You are such a PRO!!!!!!
"Way too much mud" is my preference for corners. So long as it an even amount. I think the roller achieves this even amount. Pretty cool.
I use this tool a lot and I use a paint pole and work from the ground. Just love this tool! And I usually fill the bigger gaps with regular mud
Good thing that you have 6’ arms! Very cool technique
The easiest corner I’ve ever taped was the corner I didn’t tape.
😎🤣
Lmai
🤣🤣🤣
I bought one because of this vid. I'm doing some reno s and I'm not a good taper. It worked beautifully for me and produced the best inside corners I've ever done. To be honest your reminder about mud thickness was a huge improvement for me also BUT I quickly found out not to try flat taping with loose mud. I got tons on the floor LoL.
Thanks for sharing
QUESTION!!!!! : )
Tub is a few inches narrower than the bathroom.
So there will be an outside corner where the tub wall meets the main wall.
One side will just be sheetrock and joint compound.
The other wall will be Hardi Backer and tile. (to the corner)
How would you finish that corner?
Corner bead over both sides?
Compound both sides?
Something else?
Thanks Bud : )
The VC is the best, hands down!
Yo dude you're awesome. Thank you so much for this tip - it's going to help me with corners so damn much.
you da man
The area where that roller shines is right behind him the dreaded less than 90* corner, in my opinion the hardest corners to do.
I’d use the roller to top coat then use a rubber knife made for these corners, then knife, but I’m telling you till you do these corners you’ll understand how hard they are to perfect.
i watched your video so that makes me a pre-professional.
I think it would be good for bathrooms and such something less than a whole main floor but more than just a patch or repair. The good thing is you can just fill up your pan and go to town.👍
These are good videos. The corner trawl works great too, and wetting the tape damp works well.
Thanks Ben, picked one up at Rona. Fastest corner taping I have ever done.
Dang! Wish you had posted this last week. Just got my tape applied yesterday ☹️
I’ll definitely try it next time. Thanks
Thank you for this video. All the inside corners of my 20 year old home are bubbled because there’s so much space between dry wall ends. My first attempt looks horrible. Thanks to this video my next attempt should be perfect.
Show ideas: How to carry drywall sheets. Also, advantages and disadvantages of attaching vertical vs horizontal.
Looks great Ben, I know alot of tapers that use this method, when I use the corner roller I like to keep my hawk underneath of it for less mess, a pan works too like you did.
Would you mind going over any tips you have for drywall patches where you have a textured surface like orange peel to blend the patch into?
I love your videos and your sense of humor coming out while doing the videos..Question..Why are you wearing a black shirt while doing drywall?? LOL.. I am not as good as you but I get mud coming back on me from the ceilings and walls when I use a ladder..Keep up the good!! See you on your next video!!
Real men wear black...either that, or more likely it's how his wife dressed him when he left for work in the morning. Ben likes shoes, too...
Mud shows up on black easier, so you can wipe it off before accidentally transferring it to the wrong surface.
Glad to see the wrist is doing better
Another great video, thanks b!
you rock man! i need to do this to my mom's garage!
I've seen these rollersat home depot. maybe i'll get one when i pull the trigger.
love your videos, keep it up.
Looks easier than hand taping but I'd go for a banjo with a corner wheel adapter.
Mud and tape at the same time, just need your 6" knife for cuts and wipes.
Great video as always though....
skater and a handy man, the ultimate guy !
Those moist mud noises starting at around 5:00....... 😂😂😂
What?? You run out of white T shirts????? Great job as always Ben!!! I also like that ladder from 85BC!!!!
Using a corner roller on an extension pole works great on high corners, like anything it just takes practice.
You don’t even have to go up and down a ladder just attach it to an extension pole just like the Richard/Hyde gooseneck flexible paint brush extension😊 Cheers
great tip! very useful if you don't have a bazooka. Even then, it can be challenging to do inside corners with it.
You can also use a pointy toilet bowl brush
I have been using the corner roller applicator, followed by inside corner roller then a flusher, I like it
This is inspiring me to go find one. My previous one broke years ago and I haven't replaced it.
I worked a whole summer once doing this work, tapping, I was a total newb, the guy I world with was a friend of the Family,, an Italian guy who was a professional finisher for like 30 years, my god he was fast, he did a lot of work at Disney because he was requested by someone. so he was really good, I seen him on stilts walking 30ft in the air on 2x6 with pan in one hand and 3ft trowel in the other going like the speed of light, pretty impressive to see, its an art form actually.
Anyway, I worked all one summer and finally one day on the way home he said to me, well I'm gonna have to fire you because I was too f&&king slow lol, that's what I loved about him, you never had to guess what he really felt... it was actually funny at the time, I was just doing it to help him out, I had a full time job so it was cool. he was right, I was slow, but man you have to move fast, I got OK with the taping and I got to use the stilts a few times and I fell once, he told me, if you think your going to fall, make sure you toss all the tools in your hand as far away from you as you can.
Anyway, this was many moons ago, this just reminded me of it. good stuff. but my heart just wasn't into it really, its definitely an art form. and from what I can tell Italian's are some of the best in the business.
Really great video!
Did this .takes to long.bought a banjo and it is the best fastest way without bubbles and blisters.mud on tape is the best
Also that is a huge room to do so any short cuts are appreciated.
Never used anything but a banjo for 20 yrs
Telescoping pole instead of the tray. The shorty is my favorite.
I have to try that on my next project
I always put a small amount of mud on over after i have ( pushed the tape ) down like you do it. Just to make sure it doesnt buble. Or not stick.
Looks like a great idea after prefilling with hot mud maybe...I see cracks in the future by that method only.... nice video/idea
I bought one at sherwin willuams for 10 bucks. Love it.
I guess the roller mat is a write-off after using it or can it be washed out successfully?
It can be washed
I was looking over the reviews and someone stated the covers are not replaceable. That being said I imagine you would want to clean it well and try to use it again at $12 a piece.
Great!
You could carry a small bucket while on the ladder and then switch back to the pan when coated. I have used a 2” roller and it does ok but does not get deep in the corner without some persuasion. I need to find one of these.
Great video!! I'm finishing my basement and will have to try this!! Would you think I would be able to use the inside corner roller and a flusher with this tool?
So you prefer that prehistoric method instead of the tube and corner applicator? So funny
Drywall doctor did it first, but I still watch your channel
Does it make sense to role the flats as well. The non corner areas with a straight roller.
How are you going to handle the edges around the brick? Does that gap between the drywall and brick get filled in at all?
I want to know the same thing. The video's intro frame almost felt like click bait because I thought he was going to show how to finish next to the brick!
Hi buddy. Love the videos. I'm a home owner... not a pro but fairly handy and not afraid to try repairs. Question. I have a large crack showing in my living room ceiling. It seems like a crappy repair from the previous owner of the house. If I sent you video are you willing to help guide me through a repair? Maybe we can make a joint video about it as you guide me through???
I use a painters pole so I can extend it for the roller
I also use it to roll mud onto corner bead as well
No offense Vancouver Carpenter, but I really think you could apply mud with a cinder block and make it look easy and good.
What you need is a toilet brush, Maxkil did a video and works like a charm
Saw that. Good call
Thanks for a great idea!
You need to use an extension pole. You won't have to bend down as much or go up and down the ladder. Been using this for years.
You should do a video on fending off Kitsilano women's
Advances.
We know all about the Marble Arch down here in US.
Hey how about the new president turning the pipeline into a giant sewer line.
Thank you for your video
A lot of us trade guys get to start new trades.
You focus on the important details and lower the frustration.
TONY THE TILER.
Do you aver use an automatic taper/bazooka, with a roller and glazer? It’s super fast.
Nice! Thanks, Ben.
Thanks for your video
Sure wish i would've seen this video about two weeks ago. Lol
I like this tool. ANYTHING to make my world easier whenever I do drywall. I SUCK at it and get frustrated easily.
Question though: Do you use this tool for round #2 on the mudding or just go back to traditional application with about a 6" trowel?
